Subpar in every way…read more I've been to Tops frequently because it's the only hardware store in Elwood. Unfortunately, it's disappointing enough that for anything short of an urgent need, I'll order online, or drive to Tipton to avoid going there. Here's why. * The building, fixtures and counters are dirty and poorly maintained. * Extremely limited variety. It's a small shop, so understandable. * Poor in stock positions. Even if the store carries an item in their limited stock, there are severe issues with the order-writing. It's always hit or miss that they will have whatever you need in stock. This was an issue before the pandemic also. * Even if the item is on the shelf, there's often just one or two in stock, making it difficult to shops for any large project. It looks like there isn't any par system in place for the Order-Writer. * Last but not least, I've only seen one employee that wears a mask, but it's under his nose. None of the other employees even have one on. There is no sign even recommending masks, despite the mandate, and most customers also aren't wearing them On the bright side, they have a decent paint selection and I've never seen a missing price tag.

The prices are higher than Lowe's or Home Depot but again (from me); supporting local business is important and something I am willing to spend a bit more for. It is awfully convenient to have this size of store in little ole Pendleton...smaller than a big box but large enough to carry whatever your home improvement needs are. Today I was costing fertilizer and the price was just slightly higher than Home Depot. Good enough for me. There isn't a ton of staff there but the place is never too busy either.

Once, I biked from my house to Sullivan Hardware, and on the way had a nut fall off my bike! Once I got to Sullivan's, the manager went out of his way to make sure I found the correct nut to replace the lost one, and even lent me a few tools to make sure everything was installed safely. I really appreciated his kindness and patience. Great little store. Definitely recommend!

I often say, "If the don't have it, you don't need it," and that was true again today. A generic v-shaped metal brace to keep our American flag from breaking its plastic base in high winds was needed. Tim, the customer service man on duty, immediately walked me to the selection. The flag is now secured for a few bucks. Instead of having to buy a box of ten or twenty our local True Value will sell you one or a couple as needed.

I never thought I'd buy a Weber grill, as I didn't understand why they seemed so expensive. After an Ace salesman showed me some differences and how they stocked all of the parts I may need down the road, I purchased one. That was a bit over a year ago, and I haven't had even the slightest "buyers remorse". Sure, it was a lot more than one of the other brands at a big box store, but wow does it do a great job. The heat is so even, and all of the controls just feel sturdy. On top of that most of the internals are made from stainless steel and should last a LONG time. Ace is a great asset to western Noblesville. As this town has grown, we've gotten all of the big box stores, but with those comes traffic and customer service that is mediocre at best. It's definitely nice to have a locally owned store where I can go pick up the things I need without having to drive across town.

I placed an online order for Flavacol to pickup at the store…read more I received a phone call letting me know they didn't actually have any in store and would order it for me. then i would receive a call when it arrived so i could come pick it up. i got another call from another employee letting me know the same thing a different day lol. very nice they were on it! and when my order was ready for pickup i was notified immediately by phone and email. when i walked in i didn't have to say much someone was already walking to grab my bag. obviously this is a hardware store but they do sell a variety of ends!

A real curiousity located on the north side of Noblesville square. I was looking for a hard to…read morefind bolt that I thought they may have (but didn't). The owner knew exactly what I was talking about and indicated I would need to order it. He wasn't especially friendly but that's fine...it's hardware. Of more interest to me was a quick loop thru the store. Another reviewer mentioned it being part Mom and Pop and part museum. That is about spot on. I might toss in secondhand store also since there is a bunch of stuff here that (presumably) no one will ever want to buy and should probably just be pitched. The paint at the front of the house looks like it has been there since 1982, there are random dishes, overpriced paintings, etc. I did notice about 60 rubber ends for canes on a shelf. Really just a random assortment of aging stuff. From strictly a hardware perspective I would be hard pressed to say I would return. I want to support local business but not for the sake of buying old junk at 2015 prices. Some of the price tags were commensurate with 2015 but the merchandise is straight 80s and 90s. There might be a couple of values here but not the type of place I will look for them. So 2 stars for the selection and a plus 1 for the trip back in time.

It's 2 parts "mom & pop" hardware store (which means the people there actually know how to do stuff) and 1 part retail museum. Need an original Fry Daddy? They got it. Need brand new Corelle dishes with the 1985 pattern? They got it. Never opened. Need a replacement carafe for a 1979 Mr. Coffee? They got it. Need a 1987 Mirro 10inch frying pan? Yep. Like I said, it's like a museum. I love it! This might be the primary shopping destination for Christmas 2014. Can't get this stuff on Amazon.
