Full transparency; I just wrote an negative review for a restaurant and wanted to balance it with a positive review for another business. So, I thought about what local businesses am I appreciating at the moment. Ace! When Walgreens left, it took me a while to get it on my radar that we now have a hardware store right in our neighborhood. Now, I'm in there nearly every day. It's a gem. The store is pretty big and they have a great selection for most household projects. The staff always give you a warm greeting and do their best to help you find what you need, offer advise and help troubleshoot any challenges. Our dog isn't super into their pup treats, but she's a bit of a picky parker - so we'll let that one slide. Ace. They ARE the helpful place. read more

Adam is the best! He truly went above and beyond to help us out of town folk. Our RV sh*|er was full so the husband sent me over to ace. Adam spoke to my husband on the phone to get a better idea was what was needed. Then he asked me to send the you-tube video that was my husband was referencing so he could watch it. I picked up the recommended tubing and gloves and it worked!!!! Adam watched the video a few more times after I had left the store and decided the tubing might not be the right solution so he texted me and told me to come on back and he would comp us something different if it didn't work. I was so shocked to get his text. I knew he had my number from when I shared the YouTube video with him at the store, but to care enough to text me and follow up?! Wow! Staff are very unwelcome. I came from out of town and was treated like garbage. There was an event going on and they seemed way too protective of their parking lot and the space. I came through to buy some garden supplies. It was so turned off by their unprofessional and rude attitude that I absolutely decided to leave. It's a tough location to do this kind of business. The city of Santa Cruz chased all the car dealers to Capitola. This Ace is housed in the old Toyota dealership building. Had a $7 off coupon for purchases over $35. Got to the $35 but clerk didn't tell me "on sale" items don't count. All he said was "yeah, there's the coupon on your receipt". I was in a rush so didn't check the total until I got home and of course no $7 off. Called them and they offered no help. This location weirds me out. While in the store I had two unhoused individuals ask me to buy them stuff. And one person outside the store asked me for $. This is even with ace employees stationed in the parking lot. I go to this store frequently, but today, I witnessed one of the staff members assault a homeless man. It was completely unnecessary. The homeless guy was outside, not being aggressive. I'd already watched him pay cash for his purchase. A few minutes later, the staffer got in the man's face outside the store, was gesticulating aggressively, then stepped up into the man's personal space and shoved him hard. It was absolutely unnecessary. I will not step foot into that store again until the worker is gone. Do better, Ace hardware! read more

They have lots of inventory considering the location and the staff was super friendly and helpful staff!

Beware of 'latex backed' throw rugs! Mine bonded to my vinyl floor and I could not scrape it off! I tried WD-40, TSP, olive oil. None of them worked. Then I went to my local Ace hardware store and they recommended Motsenbocker's Lift Off Caulk & Sealant Remover. I took it home and poured some on one of hard bonded latex. I left it on for 2 hours, then scraped. It kinda worked and I will need to do each area 2 or three times, but it is going away saving me $800 in replacing the floor. I had called all over town trying to find something that worked and watched a dozen YouTube vids as well but nothing worked. Ace Hardware rescued me! read more

I don't always like asking for help at hardware stores because employees answer my questions in a way that makes me feel dumb. No one at Ace has ever made me feel that way, at any store. This location is my favorite in town and if they sold tshirts I would buy one so everyone could at least think I was cool enough to work at ace hardware because all their employees are so smart, helpful, and nice to their customers. read more
