I honestly want to give this place negative stars....I have never been to an establishment that treats their customers so poorly. I've been to this business multiple times and each time no one has greeted me when I walk in or ask what I need, they just stared at me and the other customers like we were such an inconvenience. Additionally ,the employees are extremely unprofessional (loudly chew gum right in your face, rude, etc). I also had the impression that the person "fitting" my clothes had no idea what she was doing, and to add to all this they are extremely, extremely over priced (seriously don't come here). They wanted to charge me triple the price to fix something (not an exaggeration). My experience was so bad that I decided not to leave my clothes here because I didn't trust them with it. read more

This time I brought in 6 items that needed to be hemmed and a new Safari jacket with sleeves that needed to be shortened. Expensive and Mediocre. I had a pair of pants taken in there a while back. They didn't take any fabric out of the seat, leaving them baggy in the back. The seams also split a few weeks later, I assume because they used poor quality thread. After trying them, I went to My Cleaners and Alterations on Guadalupe. They did a much better job for a lot less. Not only did they take the fabric out of the seat, they also matched the pinstripes along the seam. I bought a pair of pants that were slightly too short for me. I walked in on a Saturday about 30 minutes before they were closing to ask if they could take out the current hem and add another inch. I was in a hurry and they offer next day service for $4.50 extra (next business day was Monday). In total it was about $19.50, and they did such a good job. Other reviewers were upset about pricing--easy fix, ask up front. read more

I have been to Ace several times and this review is based on my cumulative experience. This location gets so busy they lose track of customer service and quality. They "pin" quickly, cut loosely and sew poorly. I wish they were better because they are very convenient. This lack of quality is compounded by the frequent turnover and sloppy management at this specific facility. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but decided to offer one up since my experiences have all been good at Ace. I've been going here for 10 years or so. I always converse with the ladies at the desk and they are really quite nice. They have made some mistakes over the years, and when i take the garment back, they fix it free of charge... without me saying a word...always willing to admit a mistake and fix it. I have - make that HAD- been a good customer for almost 20 years. In the past 3 years the service and quality has declined sharply. Today was the last straw. I allowed 10 days (I've learned!) before I needed a pair of dress trousers hemmed for a trip. I picked the pants up yesterday without time to try them on; when I got home they had not hemmed them! The chalk marks were still on the back! I took them back this morning exactly at 7:30 AM (their posted opening time), the door was open, and a very grumpy-looking young woman glared at me as I entered. I began to explain their mistake and she interrupted me mid-sentence saying "I have to finish opening. You'll have to wait before you complain'. I was stunned by her rudeness... so stunned that I turned around and walked out. I will never return. read more

I have been a customer of this Ace location for years and have never been disappointed. I strayed once (to find a lower price) and had to give those items to Goodwill as they were ruined; a costly lesson. This location is close to my office, which is great, but the outstanding quality of the work is the reason I will never stray again. read more

Ace Custom has been helping me tailor and mend for a decade, so when it was time for my wedding dress, I felt confident going in to them. Josie and the women there did a very fine job. The dress was intricate and quite a bit of cutting and sewing had to be done in order to make the dress ready for the wedding. I find them to be just a bit more than some others, but I am happy to pay for the quality I receive. If it's difficult or a really nice piece from my wardrobe, there is only one place I'm going in Austin-Ace. read more

They do great work but do not finish your alterations by the date they say they will. They have Low Accountability. Twice I have gone in to pick up my items only to be told that they aren't ready yet. No phone call alerting me or anything. Very aggravating. They are also very expensive. I flew back into Austin a few days before a wedding and had to get my bridesmaid's dress altered stat. They turned it around in just a day and did a great job. Price was affordable considering my dress was much, much to big and needed quite a bit of work done. I had no issues with staff that others have mentioned. I was quoted a price of $18.50 on the phone to replace a zipper on a dress I have in. Went in, and the woman looking at the dress kept raising the price until it was almost double the original price I was told. I told her about the phone call and she dismissed me. I know how to replace a zipper - I was going to do it myself (and I am now) but wanted to save some time. I felt like this was disingenuous information given over the phone. I agree with the previous commenters that these people are not friendly and the prices are way too high. read more

Don't go here!! Rude and bad customer service! My fiancé dropped off his tux to be altered the day before our event and paid for an express fee to have it done in time. She told him it would be ready by 1:30 pm the next day (they close at 2). We showed up the next day at 1:45 and they were CLOSED!!!! Lights off, no cars in the parking lot, totally gone. We were not able to go to the gala that night that we had spent a lot of $$$$ on tickets, not to mention the dress I had rented. HORRIBLE PLACE!!! read more

They were awesome and not only was the dress tailored perfectly, but I dropped it off when they opened and picked it up before close. No problems! I was in a bind and needed a dress altered overnight and ACE tailors was able to help! The actual work was very good-took a few inches off a lined dress. The price was very reasonable. I appreciate that they tell you the cost up front. They also send you a text letting you know when your item is ready for pick up. Lovely staff - both cashiers very nice. Ive been here several times, and every time have been completely satisfied. These women know what they're doing. Ive brought in everything from a dress to be re-strapped, shirts to be re-hemed (case in point, Forever 21, where everything is either too short to be a dress or too long to be a shirt) and a formal bridesmaids dress to be tailored. Every time they have done a perfect job, as if I purchased it that way. It's not the cheapest, but when it comes to tailoring I'd rather have something done perfectly than done cheap. So it was the day before my sister's wedding and my bridesmaids dress didn't fit. I took my dress in and in four hours they had it completely fixed and it fit perfectly! Also I couldn't even see where they cut into the dress, it looked as good a when I bought it. I couldn't believe it! The women who work there are amazing at what they do, they are very professional and know their stuff, and best of all they are nice and listen to what you want. Between the guy not honoring the price he quoted (changed it as he was ringing me up), the incredibly long wait to pick up the shirt (3 people in line waiting while he measured a hem), and the unapologetic attitude, I would recommend that you go any place else than this. I needed my dress for my sister's wedding altered. The bodice of the dress was too high on my chest and the length of the dress needed to be shortened. I looked on Ace Tailor's website and it suggested I call Vanessa, the owner, for major alterations to formal dresses. I spoke with her over the phone and she suggested I come in and told me which location she would be at the next day. I was running late due to traffic after leaving work. Vanessa was fine with me coming in at 5:45 (made it be 5:55) before they closed at 6:00 pm. She stayed past closing to pin the dress and was very quick. Vanessa looked at the dress and told me the bodice could not be brought down lower because of how the dress was made. I wasn't thrilled about that, but already knew the bodice would be hard to alter. When she took the measurements to shorten my dress, I could tell she knew what she was doing. Vanessa gave me a quote of $68 plus tax. I knew I could get the dress shortened for cheaper, but was worried the other businesses would not get my dress back in time. Ace Tailors's prices could be more affordable, that is the main reason for the amount of stars shown. I have had good past experiences with them with simple alterations and is the reason I chose to come back to them for this dress. read more

Ace was recommended to me by a colleague. I had three trousers that needed attention - a simple repair, jean crouch hole repair, and simple hemming. The total cost was around $45, and it took about five days. When I picked up my garments, I was very disappointed by the quality of work. The trouser with the simple repair was not even finished. I could see that work had been done, but it was incomplete, leaving about an inch of repair undone. My jeans were repaired nearly properly, except that part of the fabric along the inseam was sewed overlapped to another part of fabric in the near vicinity. I had to undo this mistake myself. The hemmed trousers were fine. I returned the trousers needing repair and the lady said I could pick them up in two days, after apologizing heavily. I think the problem is that they seem understaffed, as when I picked up my garments on a Saturday morning, they were very crowded. I will not return to Ace as I found it unacceptable that such simple repairs could be given such little care or attention to detail. I would not trust this establishment with more complicated work, or work on garments of high quality. read more

Very sorry to report that I won't be returning to Ace Tailor, ever. On two separate occasions, they ruined a rather expensive dress. The first time, I tried on the altered dress and couldn't zip up the back - they'd taken in the waist and torso by two sizes, even though I'd asked for the hip and skirt to be tapered. Well, I had to take it back three times before it was wearable and the bust is still pretty tight. No apology or offer of a refund, discount, etc. Second experience was similar. Needed shoulder straps shortened by 3/4" MAX - they took in the bust and shortened straps by 1 1/2'. I was almost in tears b/c this was for an important event. They tried to repair with mixed results - again, no apology, even when I reminded Josie of the previous dress issue. The coffin was nailed shut when I discovered they hadn't sewn in the hem of a pair of trousers I'd brought in with the dress. At least the length was right ... read more
