Never go here! I took my skirt to get it altered to match another skirt I owned. First of all, I didn't even get any sort of greeting. After standing at the counter awkwardly for a while, I finally had to ask them how they were so they'd talk to me. When they finally responded, I explained to them what I needed done. They told me it's too hard and the skirt I want to get altered looks nice as it is so I should just wear it like that. Seriously? I didn't come to you for fashion advice. I just got the same dress altered (completely-TWICE by Ace) for 1/20 weddings I've been obligated to be in over the last 36 months. This is the most nightmare of a dress I have had to deal with thus far. I've had tons of family emergencies that I've been dealing with and a new job where I'm traveling out of state 50% of the time. Ace had it ready for me in less than 24 hours and now I'm on my way to the airport with the dress to go to this out of state wedding. My stress level has definitely been lowered. I've been going to this ACE location for several years and I've never had any of the horrible experiences listed by some of the other patrons. They do really great work and I've never had to leave something behind for additional adjustments after trying on my clothes. If you are getting pants altered, I suggest bringing in the shoes you plan to wear with the garment. If you have 2 pairs, bring them both. It will give you a better idea of the finished product. Most recently, I was the MOH in my best friend's wedding and brought in a floor length, formal, geometrically patterned black lace gown with a nude nylon underbody. I needed the dress taken in an entire size as well as the length taken up quite a bit. I am only 5'1" so it needed A LOT of alterations. I couldn't have been more pleased. I was very specific with my needs and brought the shoes I'd be wearing with the dress. Even with the geometrical shape of the lace, it only took ONE try to get it perfect! I even allowed myself time to get additional adjustments made, but I didn't need it. I don't take my clothes to any other tailor. I've had great experiences here and am always pleased with the work! read more

Meh. They don't take 'Go Local' cards or give any types of discount. I gave them a dress to hem and reinforce 6 small clasps on the back of the dress. After 6 days I went in (seemed excessively long) but anyway walked in to pick up my dress. They had obviously forgotten about it. And said 'Oh wait 20-30 minutes and we will work on it now.' I left. After 30 minutes I walked back in, it was done. One of the clasps hadn't even been reinforced, although it was simple. The work on the hem looked okay, it wasn't stellar, it wasn't bad, it was okay.. I paid 26 dollars for 20ish minutes of work. No discounts for being late on their part, and making me wait. Meh. I would think twice before going in here again. And so much for ''Express Alterations'' only if they forgot about it 6 and a half days later... read more

I accompanied my sister when she was picking her clothes and we were unfortunately told to wait an extra 5 mins while they finished off her clothes which was no problem. So we ended up have a great chat with a lovely man named Robbie who was working behind the desk for about 10 mins while we waited. I honestly they are good for the average person - but I have given them two chances on a $300 dollar pair of jeans and both times I don't think they did anything- they have other stuff for me which has been ok, but when for the price I personally will allow high end items - they want speed and honestly I spent more on two alterations than the jeans and still cannot wear them. She said that all of her people are trained to say the price + "and up," and I told her that her Rep did not say, "and up." She essentially accused me of lying and repeated the fact that her people are all trained to say that. This place is a total racket. It has now happened to me twice that they quote me one price and then end up charging me another. I just got a zipper replaced on a sweatshirt jacket and I decided if it cost less than $30 I'd do it. I don't remember how much exactly they quoted me (because they took more than a month to do the work), but I know it was less than $30 because otherwise I would've just given the dern sweatshirt away and not bothered spending a week's worth of cheese on a zipper. I picked it up today and it was $52.50. Yes, $52.50. I shouldn't have paid for it, I think I was just in shock. I argued a bit but the woman seemed unconcerned and so I paid and left, vowing to destroy them on Yelp and never set foot in there again. $52.50 for a friggin' zipper!!! Total racket. Oh, and did I mention that I dropped the sweatshirt off more than a month ago? They said they didn't know how long it would take, because they had to order the zipper, but they'd call me when it was ready. I checked in on it after two weeks and it wasn't ready yet. After hearing nothing from them for several more weeks, I stopped in to check and indeed it was ready but they never called to tell me so. So it took them a month and $52.50 to replace the zipper on my sweatshirt. Next time, I'll just give my cat a zipper, some needle and thread, and a month to figure things out and I'm sure something less ridiculous will happen. Anyhoo, if you ever go in there for anything, ASK HOW MUCH IT WILL COST AND MAKE THEM PUT IT IN WRITING. Otherwise you may end up spending $52.50 for a zipper on a sweatshirt. I stopped in to Ace today because the folks at Feather's Boutique recommended them. I was disappointed. I bought this great 50's dress, but the cone-boobies on it were overwhelming and I wanted to get the bust taken in. After a bunch of "I don't know's" and "What do you want us to do again?" they told me there was nothing they could do to tailor the dress. (Which is baloney - my sister is a seamstress and my mom sews, we just didn't have time to deal with the dress ourselves). So, I left and took it down the street to Austin Alterations & Cleaners. I want to like this place. It's clean. They have a lot of staff. It's an open floor plan so you can see the work being done. But time and time again it falls below my expectations. I took a dress in to be hemmed. I said I wanted it a quarter inch off the floor. They pinned it at the wrong length like 3 times. When they finally got it at the right length, it was pinned unevenly. Although they assured me they would do it right, it's uncomfortable leaving your dress when they themselves had acknowledged its uneven. When I picked it up though, that's when I was really horrified. I had informed them that I was picking the dress up for an event that night. When they gave me the dress, it was all twisted in the bag. The back of the dress wasn't even zipped. The bottom was all wrinkled from being twisted and crammed in the bottom of the bag. This place is too expensive for this kind of service. read more

I brought two pairs of suit pants in for work. The first had been torn in a fight with a chair armrest and were repaired and saved. The second pair required more work. They removed the pleats and made the legs more slim fitting. They were nice Burberry pants and Ace did an excellent job. They're expensive, so I knocked off one star, but I highly recommend. read more

Aces on North Lamar unfortunately ruined my brand new pencil skirt for work. I took it in 3 times - the 1st time for the original alterations and the following 2 times to try and fix the issues caused by the tailors. They ended up taking in the skirt WAY too much when I only needed it taken in a little. When I got it back it was skin tight and I was unable to sit comfortably in it. They kept telling me they were going to fix it but each time I went to pick it up it was the same. After I took it to a DIFFERENT tailor I found out that they actually cut the material inside so there was no fixing it. I ended up having to purchase the skirt again since it was not repairable. This has been a very frustrating and expensive experience to say the least. This was not my first time uses Aces but it will be my last. read more

The quality of the work is fine, but it's really expensive -- $26 or so to hem a pair of jeans and reattach the original hem and $10 to repair a 1-inch section of a seam that had come unsewn. So, for now, I'm still on the hunt for a more affordable (but still trustworthy) tailor for these sorts of jobs. read more

This is a place you can take nice clothes to get them altered worry-free. I saw some negative reviews about feeling ignored and if they are busy when you stop by I would definitely recommend grabbing a free dressing room as soon as you see one and changing into the clothes you need altered. I got some pants taken in and hemmed. $40! Not only that, it looks sloppy and the pants were shortened too much. They were also returned wrinkled and late. I cannot find any reason anyone should go here. It mean it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but everything I asked them to fix they did, but it just came out wrong. The pants sit on me poorly and they didn't even bother to press them. I am sure there are a dozen other places that are cheaper, better, and will actually return your clothes to you when they say they will and better and less wrinkled than when you brought them in. read more

If you want alterations done right the first time, this is the place to go. There are 3 of them in town, and I think all work is done at the 12th. St. and Lamar location, which is the one I'm familiar with. Josey and Vanessa preside over the counter and are deft with fittings. You will not be sorry you brought your clothing there, the work is efficient and speedy. And not cheap. I had a dress overhauled from regular a size 10 down to a petite size 4 (I was not a size 10, I bought the too large dress because it was fabulous and I knew I could have it altered to my size, OK?) and it cost me a meaty $85. I've had coats that needed the shoulders moved up and back tapered and they ranged from $30 - $50. Shortening pants is a standard $16. Hey - you pay for what you get here. They do great work. The best tailors in town. But also very expensive. I have brought them dresses of all materials with layers and intricate details (very difficult alterations jobs) and they have been able to alter them without it showing a bit. They always have the items ready when promised and parking is readily available in the adjacent parking lot or the spots in front. So maybe not the best place for an easy hem due to the price, but for a nicer item, Ace is definitely the best in town. read more

I have been to Ace Tailor on 12th St about 3-4 times. Every time, except this last time when I brought in 2 suits to be altered. First time I brought pants to be hemmed, I had to bring them back after their first washing because the stitching came loose. They fixed it no charge. The hemming is quite expensive compared to other places in town ($12.50). Several weeks later, the stitching on another pair of pants came undone. Again, fixed without charge but it is getting to be a hassle to have to go back so often. Most recently, I bought 2 expensive Italian suits and took them here to have the pants and jackets fit. I should have listened more closely to my intuition and taken them to a professional upscale men's shop, it certainly would not have cost more ($250 to get 2 suits refit, yes, I am a moron for paying this at this half-rate shop). I went to pick up my suits 2 days later. The most expensive suit has pleated pants and was to have cuffs. They did not cuff the pants. The shoulders on the other suit jacket were completely wrong and caused the fabric to buckle and fold. THey were also supposed to reattach 2 buttons to each sleeve they took in...they did not do this. Also, the measurements were taken incorrectly in the waist (apparently in one jacket as well) and when I tried on the pants, I could pull them down over my hips when they were buttoned. About 1.5 inches too large. They agreed to make the correct changes. I went back a week later to pick up the suits and they were not ready because they took down my phone number incorrectly (doubled the first digit) so I had to wait another 4 days. Took about 2 weeks to get this done. Fortunately, they just barely had enough room to fix the pants and make it cuffed. Suits are OK now, still feel that they should fit a little better. Morale is: spent too much time and money on a half-ass job tailoring. They did do the right thing and fix my suits and poor hems. I do not have a lot of experience with tailors in Austin but next time I will try someone new. read more

I really like their store sign. I used to come here. When I did, I thought that their prices were too high and it took them too long to alter my clothes (I am short and my pants almost always have to be taken up). I have now learned how to sew and alter my own clothes. After learning how easy and inexpensive it is to alter clothes myself, I REALLY think they are overpriced. read more

The good is they have multiple locations and they are fairly competent at what they do. The bad, is that they are under staffed, so it usually takes a long time to get in and out. Also, they charge a premium and have long turn arounds, even for simple items. There are many other independent options with equal or better quality, faster turn around and they charge less. read more

I rushed both of my items and specified that I needed them by 10am for our family photos, showed up at 11am and its not ready & she was borderline rude about it (apparently the girl who checked me out didn't specify a time, shocker). She said it would be 20 minutes till they are done and I could sit and wait, I've got a whole family to get ready for our family photos but instead I'm sitting here waiting. I honestly want to give this place negative stars....I have never been to an establishment that treats their customers so poorly. I've been to this business multiple times and each time no one has greeted me when I walk in or ask what I need, they just stared at me and the other customers like we were such an inconvenience. Additionally ,the employees are extremely unprofessional (loudly chew gum right in your face, rude, etc). I also had the impression that the person "fitting" my clothes had no idea what she was doing, and to add to all this they are extremely, extremely over priced (seriously don't come here). They wanted to charge me triple the price to fix something (not an exaggeration). My experience was so bad that I decided not to leave my clothes here because I didn't trust them with it. read more
