I've had Ackee Tree's jerk chicken, jerk pork, curry pork and curry chicken. I really love their seasonings, especially the jerk. I do not order the pork any more because half of the meat is just chunks of skin and fat. The chicken is better but typical of real Jamaican restaurants, the meat is less meaty and more boney than chicken you would buy at Publix. I recommend the jerk chicken which comes with rice and beans and a small cabbage garnish. For the money, the portion is nice. It is beautifully seasoned and spicy. The ox tail tasted fine. If I remember correctly, the medium is $13.99. They start ox tail at medium. It felt like a small to me. The portions weren't great (as expected with ox tail at any Jamaican spot), but even the rice serving felt underwhelming. We had choice of plantain or veg, one or the other. That threw me off too. I'm accustomed to getting both with a dinner meal. For a newer restaurant, you'd think they would want to make more of a good first impression. I walked in with my mother. The women working at the time wasn't behind the counter. So we walked up to the glass and waited. She walked around went and washed her hand and then asked us what we wanted to order. Today, I was looking for the Strictly Wings store on Oakland Park Blvd but I found out later it was across the street from this Jamaican restaurant. I decided to step inside and see their menu. I ordered one pound of jerk chicken. From look of the jerk chicken, I thought to myself that this purchased would be worth it but now I regret for pulling out eleven dollars to pay for my meal. I didn't taste any jerk on the chicken as if the chicken wasn't marinated at all. The jerk chicken was bland and weak. I'm very disturbed that I wasted my time and money on this restaurant. Awful. I'd give 0 stars if I could. My friend and I ordered from grub hub from here. Her jerk chicken was one big bone. My oxtail came with three tiny pieces , one was all bone, and an entire container of rice. I called them, because we spent $40 on our meals, and they said come back. I went back, and they put 3 pieces of oxtail in a togo container. I had to laugh. I get 5 times as much anywhere else. The place was trash would never go back. The patties were whack too. I am not a pee person, but the way the pees were marinated was perfect (although my mom found it a tiny bit salty from the pig tail). In addition to the food, the service was excellent - this appear to be a family owned business. We were warmly welcomed from time we walked in and catered to until we left the restaurant. I've given them three chances so far they have several things on their menu with fish however when you get there they never have any fish in stock or their chef is already gone for the day (at 1pm) so they can't prepare it. So happy to see this place come to Oakland Park! It's kinda hidden in a small shopping center behind KFC at Oakland and 21st. Newly renovated inside, cute and quaint. The chef and the staff could not have been friendlier! The have only been there a couple of weeks and you would never know. The food was absolutely amazing and crazy affordable. We had jerk chicken, brown chicken and the curry chicken... all were absolutely amazing and true homemade food. The portion sizes were crazy, we ordered small and was enough for 2! I don't even know how to start with this review. My partner went there today to get some food after seeing the sign on the street. The name of the restaurant was the main reason we went and it was a BIG REGRET. The ackee was VERY OILY he literally had to strain it, the dumplins were hard as rock, the curry chicken was PINK on the inside and the rice tasted old, lastly the soup was basically colored water could've counted the peas inside from 2 LARGE soups not to mention the one piece of beef, 2 tiny pieces of yam and one tiny potato. With the name ACKEE TREE JAMAICAN RESTAURANT they're going to have to come harder than that and that could change just by getting a NEW CHEF or just go ahead and change the restaurant name sorry.
