After a few months and some discomfort in my lower back, I decided to get professionally fit to maximize my cycling goals. I was referred to Acme through some road cyclists I know and I quickly understood why Acme has such a good reputation. Colin was outstanding in his knowledge of bike fitting, thoroughly an expert in his field. He measured my current setup and began inputting the info into the Guru software. He observed me on my bike and asked tons of questions to ensure we were aligned on the end goals and what felt the most comfortable but also all what would allow me to be injury free and faster. Health and safety were a priority through the experience and I was lucky enough to have the space privately on a Sunday afternoon. Nice touch. I tried to support my LBS by buying my new tri bike from them but they just couldn't provide a very high quality fit. They did not have alternative saddles in stock to try, they did not adjust my shoes/cleats, and it was not a structured process at all. I was referred to Jonathan at ACME by my Ironman cousin and his girlfriend, both of whom have qualified for Kona and are full time triathletes. I give Jonathan and ACME my absolute highest marks. Jonathan's process begins with a discussion of the bike, your goals, fitness level, and strength/flexibility tests. He then moves on to your shoes/cleats, has many saddles to try, optimizes saddle position, and moves to aero bars. He is incredibly patient and the whole process was never rushed and super-high-quality. You feel like the whole experience is worth it. And it is just that - an experience. Had my bike fit by Jonathan yesterday (4/2/21) and I cannot recommend Acme enough! The process from start to finish was organized, professional and extremely helpful. Jonathan was quite patient in listening to my riding goals, identifying pain points and areas that I wanted to improve, conducting a full assessment, and then proceeding onto an expert fit and bike adjustment. The skill and knowledge is both high-level and still easy to understand. He explained his thought process every step of the way, and I left feeling like I not only have a properly fit bike, but also a much deeper understanding of my own mechanics and principles in maintaining comfort while cycling. Highly attentive, personable and knowledgable, Jonathan makes astute form assessments and bike adjustments. Welcoming, modern and spacious work area and if you go during nightfall, there's a decent sunset view. :-) ***NOTE: I am a non-competitive year-round commuter cyclist and had my fitting appointment late fall (during covid-19 pandemic, wear your mask). I am quite conscious re: form and posture, so I thought to eliminate any poor setup to avoid pain and potential worsening form. I have suffered from TOS (thoracic outlet syndrome) and have experienced low back soreness. Commuter biking is an activity I do often, mostly between Brooklyn and Manhattan for a period of 40 minutes to 2+ hours most days, depending on my schedule. Highly recommend. read more

I'm an amateur cyclist & triathlete who has spent the last several years transitioning from "not really much idea of what I'm doing" to "kind of knowing how this all works." Part of that transition has been understanding how important fit is to comfort, performance, and all-around enjoyment on a bicycle. Jonathan has re-fit me on my road bike and served as both adviser and fitter when purchasing my time trial/triathlon bike this year. For my road bike, he made some slight adjustments to my existing fit that disproportionately improved my performance and comfort. A few niggling pains eventually evaporated as I adapted to the new fit and I began to improve strength and, most importantly, enjoy riding my bike more. During the new bike process, he was patient and provided invaluable advice as I worked through my questions and provided me several options inside of the range and criteria that I provided, most of which would have meant NOT purchasing through him. However, I ended up moving forward with one of the brands Acme carries and couldn't be happier. There were a few bumps in the road during the process (essentially the frame came in later than expected), but he was open and honest about what was happening and we resolved the situation easily. I've now had the bike for a few months and it's just an absolute dream. I'm fitter, faster, and more comfortable than I've ever been in my personal process, and couldn't be happier with my decision to work through Acme. I highly recommend getting a bike fit before you start logging miles. I waited too long and ended up injuring myself with an incorrect bike setup. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and really takes their time with you to make sure you understand why they're making the any changes to your bike. Did a bike fit with Colin in April 2018. Experience was amazing. I had been wanting to get a bike fit for years, and when I had decided to pull the trigger in the past, other bike fitters were very hard to get a hold of and schedule. Then this year I found ACME. Their online system for booking is crystal clear and efficient. As for the fit, Colin was extremely professional and patient. He listened and was extremely thorough. He had a great way to explain the spectrum of comfort and efficiency, and how he would go about finding the sweet spot for my type of riding (30-60 mi rides). Fit consisted of analyzing me, me on my bike, my fit on the retul machine, and then getting my bike to match the fit. What I was surprised about was that getting the right fit often means switching out components/accessories (seat, stem, shoe inserts). While I didn't plan on this before, I was confident Colin was getting me what I needed, and at no point did he push a new bike on me.... he was really trying to make what I had work and to do that, we needed a new stem and a different seat to help my pelvis alignment. Also I asked if his prices were competitive with online prices. He was very honest and said he was brick and mortar and often couldn't compete but that he wouldn't be offended if I purchased elsewhere. I purchased from Colin anyway and when I looked up prices online after, nearly all of what I bought was within 10% of online prices. Plus Colin meticulously set my new stem and seat on the spot and offered to do the same on another bike I had. I highly recommend this experience and will continue to visit Colin for fit tune ups. I'm new to triathlons and cycling. After a few sprint races on an old bike and the decision to do my first 1/2 Ironman, I was ready for a real racing bike. I researched a few different places that do fittings in the city. I read that some bike shops will do a fitting for free or at a discounted price. After experiencing this "free" fitting for myself, I assure you, it's nothing like you'll get with Acme and you're doing yourself and your bike a disservice. I found out about Acme Bicycle through an interview on Triessential.com. Jonathan was patient with a newbee like me! He really took his time making sure the fit was perfect for me. We went through 5 saddles, large and small adjustments, sprints and climbs. When one modification threw something off, he'd go back and was genuinely excited to figure out the perfect configuration for me. After the session, he emailed me all my measurements and even included a few bike suggestions in my budget with explanations about size/components. With this info, I was able to get a bike that was as perfect as a non-custom built bike could be for me. Once I got my bike, I had one last meeting with Jonathan to set the new bike up using the measurements we took on day 1. The Bike shops wanted me to pick a bike that they'd try to make work for me. Jonathan got me the exact configuration I needed so that I could pick the best bike for my dimensions. His attention to detail is obvious. He's genuinely friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and just smart in general. I will definitely be back at Acme next season. read more

Probably the best bike fitting studio in the metropolitan area. Have been on tri bikes for the last 6 years mostly because road bikes just didn't feel as comfortable--counter intuitive, right? But that was my reality, that is until I went to Jon Blyer at Acme. Jon built me a custom made Guru Praemio which is titanium, steering me away from the more expensive carbon bikes based on his knowledge of my riding. The componentry was perfect, and he went over everything in great detail so that I knew what my options were. The result? A fantastic road experience that allows me to mix my riding for the various events I am entering. It's been a few months, but I did exactly what was suggested. I simply rode. I went in to ACME to purchase and get fit for a new saddle. I scheduled an appointment with Colin. From the get he showed nothing but patience. I tried several saddles and slowly started to narrow them down. One by one he fit tested me and viola!, I came away with a brand new saddle that fit perfect. I wasn't real certain at first because I had tried so many at the time. Colin simply said to go and ride. See how it feels after a week, two weeks or even a month. If I didn't like the fit, just bring it back. Well, I haven't been back because all I've been doing is riding ... comfortably. Jonathan Blyer at Acme Bicycle Co. is THE man to see if you're having any issues at all on the bike, or if you just simply want to go faster. Although I had originally purchased my tri bike based on the recommendation of a previous fitter, and had been fit to it once it arrived, Jonathan put me in a MUCH more comfortable and aerodynamic position, and also identified and corrected several problems with my bike that both the bike shop and my previous fitter had missed (such as improperly installed cables, and a badly messed up front derailleur). Even though I had been fit once before, I was having knee and back problems, and all kinds of saddle problems. Using a very systematic, step-by-step approach, Jonathan immediately addressed my knee and back problems, and over the next several weeks, showed me the patience of a saint as we worked through at least 5 different saddles, making sure each was set to my needs before letting me take it out for a test. Not only is Jonathan a very skilled fitter (his website goes into detail about the methods he uses), but he is also very knowledgeable about cycling in general, and is an accomplished triathlete himself, in addition to just being an all-around great person. I felt completely comfortable with him, as he is a far cry from a bike-snob, and above all, wants you to be as fast and as comfortable on your bike as possible. I really cannot say enough good things about him! A bike fit in general is ALWAYS worth it, but a bike fit here is the best you'll find in the city. You will not be let down.
