    Chicken and waffles

Breakfast is my favorite and Acme hits! Caroline was our waitress and she was attentive and lovely. The food though was so good! I cannot believe the restaurants overall rating of 3.5 stars. Absolutely no way! The chicken on the waffles was incredibly seasoned, crispy and perfectly cooked. The waffle was fluffy and buttery. The gravy on the chicken fired steak was perfect. Not pictured was the special- a chanterelle bacon omelette and it was stuffed! The did not skimp on fillings. Biscuits are huge and baked fresh every morning. If I had to make any critique it'd be that I personally like extra crispy potatoes but that'd be an easy adjustment at the time of order. Wonderful place.

The lemon ricotta pancakes were so yummy! This was a very cute space to enjoy breakfast .

Stopped in for a late breakfast today and was able to get in's of the last Specials. Oak smoked brisket with potatoes and eggs. Brisket was smoked in house and had excellent flavor. Made for a very tasty meal.

My daughter and I loved our cheese burgers with avocado added on! And hubby is enjoying his shrimp poor boy sandwich!

Great staff!! This cozy little diner does it all correctly! We have eaten here several times and we keep coming back!! All of the food we have eaten is awesome! I highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich! Prepare to fall in love ~

This was our first time at The Acme since moving to Salem. The place is clean and the staff attentive and efficient. I love chicken fried steak and usually order it to gauge the menu. My wife ordered the waffle and thought that it was very good. My chicken fried steak was the best that I have ever had; you can tell that it really is fried like chicken. The gravy was extremely tasty and the biscuits were home made. The portion size was way more than I could eat in 2 sittings. I am sure that this will be my favorite breakfast spot.

I don't understand this places current 3.5 star rating..... it deserves so much more than that! We stopped in because of the country fried steak - and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint!! We happened to dine there when a regular happened to bring in a box of peaches, so we had the joy of experiencing peach french toast!! Let me tell you that the ONLY complaint i have about Acme Cafe is how FULL I was when we rolled (literally) back out to the car!!! They were relatively busy when we walked in so we also had the joy of sitting at and noticing that the high top bar table was also made from the boards of an old bowling lane! SUPER COOL!!! Needless to say - we will be back to Acme.... and i hope others see it my way and help raise their rating! This place deserves a full strike!! (see what i did there?) haha

I drove halfway across the damp, undistinguished city of Salem to get to The Acme Diner because I liked the look of it here on Yelp. I like a diner that serves decent beer as much as the next Joe, and I wanted to skip my free hotel breakfast for once. I liked the look of it in person too-- mish mash of contemporary and you know... old-time Diner, but everything else was disappointing. Lousy drip coffee. Weak service from a nice (but over whelmed) waitress. The eggs were fair, but cold. The biscuit was like a lump of cake dough, the hashbrowns came positively burnt off the grill, and the bacon was so overdone... i'd say it was cooked to the consistency of a credit card. I also got a lemon-ricotta pancake (and my only comment is I could taste neither lemon or ricotta. it was undistinguished at best.) I really wanted to like everything. But I didn't like anything. I hope that it was an anomaly (like maybe their short order cook didn't show up and a 12 year old was working the grill...). But I can't recommend, but YMMV or whatever the acronym is). Sorry!

Here is a current breakfast and lunch menu.

We had chicken fried steak. My hubby and I split it. The actual steak was really good very tender. The eggs were good. But my potatoes and his were not real good. Mine were hard like they had not been cooked all the way through. I probably should've asked for regular shredded hashbrowns, but I'm not sure if they have them. The Service was excellent. The ladies there are so sweet and funny. The cook even came and checked on us. The place is very clean and smelled well.

I found this place on google, and let me say this is one spot I would recommend for breakfast/brunch. I ordered the waffle combo and it didn't disappoint. The service from when I walked in to when I was walking out was topnotch. Very welcoming establishment!

    A nice place to eat...

Lunch was average. Black bean burger was more aglop of beans. Fairly pricy for what it is. Fries were way, way too salty.

Poor service, very poor quality for food and drinks. Don't bother coming here. Much better choices in Salem.

Kelly was so friendly, so full of life and energy and love. It seemed like everyone loves working there.. The food was absolutely amazing. Amazing from beginning to end this was by far superior to any restaurant I've been to in a long time. The service, the food, the ambience, sure wish it was in my town. Everyone at our table enjoyed their breakfast. We couldn't take it with us unfortunately because we're flying home today, but the portions are huge. Do yourself a favor and visit this cozy place. The wait can be a bit, but absolutely beyond worth the wait.

We told hostess we did not want to sit at the bar, she sat us at the bar, after some more wait, we did get a table. Coffee was ok, but the cups were huge, always 2/3 full of cold coffee. The food took one hour to find our table. Nothing special, my wife had an omelet, with a big glob of Brie cheese, overpowering the omelet. I had corned beef hash that was extremely dry and salty. I also had warm rye bread. Not toasted. We were half done with our breakfast, and was given the bill, and boxes to go. Very rushed, crowded, and expensive. $58 for sub-par breakfast for 2. Sorry WOM, didn't cut it.

The bacon blue cheeseburger was cooked perfectly and balanced so well with the blue cheese and thick strips of bacon. No sad little fast food bacon bits here. The Fall French toast had an amazing crisp to it. Personally, I felt like there was almost a little too much happening flavor-wise to fully enjoy it all together, but the warm apple slices with the cinnamon raisin bread were absolutely delicious. The staff was amazing from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The restaurant itself is small, but it felt cozy rather than crowded. Parking was a nightmare and the waitlist was thriving at 25 minutes long, but it was Sunday so I understood. We put our name on the list and waited outside in the cold next to the heater that wasn't emitting any heat. Our name was called after twenty minutes and we were sat next to the door (not my fave) at a large table. A couple was sat at the same time as us at the other end. We both got our menus at the same time. But long story short: by the time they were done with their meal, check on the table and everything, we had finally received ours. It was very annoying given that we were sat at the exact same time. The cinnamon roll was lackluster. All of the lovely frosting that you hope for/expect was melted into a flavorless grease. The corned beef hash was a strange consistency being made with shredded hash instead of traditional cubed potato but that was their choice and it's not the best. The French toast on the kids menu did not mention that it was crusted in cornflakes and I think if it weren't for the fact that my daughter was so hungry, she wouldn't have ate them. They were what you expect: crunchy French toast bites. Our server never returned after dropping off the food, only at the end to clear plates and give the check. It was a disappointing experience and even more disappointing that we had to tip on that kind of service because we're those kind of people. Clearly he didn't deserve it. The encounter legitimately set a really grim tone for the rest of the day.
