We've been ordering meal kits and groceries from Acme for about 6 months and absolutely love it - the produce and meat is outstanding and we enjoy the variety of meals. I appreciate that they've introduced some quirkier to cook meals for those busier days and I've especially loved the baked good kits. We just love everything about this service, order routinely 4-5 kits/week. i have never had any issues with customer service, receiving prompt emails to every inquiry and minor issue that's come up. My sons gave us a gift of Acme boxes when my husband was ill. What a life-savor! I kept this up since. The food is always fresh and locally sourced. I find the recipes accurate and spot-on. I've used many meal kits in the past, and am a good home cook and baker. There were many problems with the boxes I tried from Acme. I tried a baking box and selection of 3 meals. Cooking times in the recipes were way off (like potatoes still rock hard off), ingredients were insufficient (not enough sage for the requirements listed in the recipe), and steps were missing on the ingredient cards (like how to turn a baking mix into a pie crust). The results were also pretty subpar - the only thing we ate to completion was pumpkin donut holes which were covered in cinnamon sugar. read more

We really loved Acme box, they had great recipes and options for all diet types. We were always impressed with the meals and have remade a few of them. However when life got to busy and we needed to cancel, this company was impossible to get ahold of. They did not respond to phone calls or emails(which is the only way to cancel). We had to drive up to Bellingham and track them down by just showing up and their office one day, just so we could cancel. This was completely unnecessary and inconvenient. read more

We did Acme for a year and recently quit. It's a very mixed bag. I love the minimal packaging they reuse, having recipes, and online ordering system. Produce is usually good, but not always the freshest, especially on hot days when stuff like cilantro wilts (and they love putting cilantro in everything). Recipes were sometimes inaccurate, with ingredients missing. Also, not every recipe is great- maybe half the recipes were ones we wanted to repeat. The key thing that pushed us away is that recipes get recycled frequently, so after a month or so of ordering vegetarian meals we could only find repeats. The food is also. expensive, especially since they recently went from $50 to $75 for min order price for free shipping. When you are repeating recipes with ingredients you can get at whole foods for half the price you start to ask "why am I doing this"? This is a good service to get you started with doing more cooking from scratch. Doesn't make sense over the long term though, at least if you are vegetarian. read more

I really like this business and the people behind it. I find that I am wasting less food (leftovers) and that I am getting higher quality products than at the grocery store, and I don't have to drive all over to specialty stores to get artisan foods. That being said, here are a couple of things to consider. This isn't really a CSA box. There is some local fruit and produce but often it's generic herbs, onions, or stuff from Charlie's produce.There is certainly some nice seasonal produce, but it's not the sole focus. There are, however, great meats and breads and grains from local producers. Also, the recipes tend to have an error here or there sometimes, or it's been modified from an earlier recipe with slightly different protein or veggie, so it won't be perfectly clear. If, however, you are a decent cook you'll figure it out. I really enjoy the creativity and quality of the food and it has made it so I no longer have to stop at the store after work and think up something to make for dinner. Highly recommended!! read more

Our Acme boxes help us eat balanced meals more consistently! They're meals we look can forward to. They strike a good balance of ease/deliciousness. Acme fits well with our family's current schedule & skills (I'm a bad meal planner and I accept it now). Acme is great for: ---Those with limited time! I've had goals to eat less processed foods, switch to lean proteins & cook more plant-based meals but I struggled to establish these habits. For years I purchased produce with good intentions but so much went bad because of poor planning or recipes too ambitious for a weeknight. Thanks to Acme, I'm ordering last minute take-out less & preparing less processed "convenience food." For our family, the price is worth it because we are FINALLY eating more healthy & are way less stressed around meal time. ---Those who want to feel more confident in the kitchen. Acme's recipes use repeating seasonal ingredients which makes cooking feel like less of an overwhelming chore after a long work day. Their premixed sauces/marinades & spice mixes speed up prep/cleaning. ---Those who want to eat more seasonally/locally. Unfortunately, farmers markets are scheduled during the middle of our work day so they're not a reliable grocery source for us. Due to our location, picking up a CSA box is not feasible at the moment. Acme has been a fantastic alternative! I also appreciate the structure a meal kit provides. Not every single ingredient is from WA (today's tofu is from CA & last month's cod was from Alaska). However, last week's salmon & pasta was from Bellingham, today's eggs came from Shelton, coffee & bread from Seattle, pork from Skagit Valley & blueberries were from Puyallup. The majority of the box is local & when I compare my past consumer habits, Acme is my most feasible step towards locally sourced eating at the moment. Customer Service: In the past, some Yelpers had difficulty with customer service & billing but this has not been my experience. Once the recipe was not included and on another occasion, an ingredient was missing. Both were resolved reasonably (the recipe was available online the day I emailed them & the missing ingredient was delivered 2 days later). Personally, I've had a positive experience. Compared to other meal kits: Acme uses less packaging than other meal kits and their packaging is actually recyclable in my city! I've tried other national meal kits and while the food was fine, some recipes featured ingredients that are not readily available (i.e. fig compote, squid ink spaghetti) & were difficult to reuse for other meals. In contrast, we've already remade a few Acme recipes using ingredients from our Safeway. How we Acme: We mix & match the Surf + Turf box. We order 3-4 meals a week (1 meal is 4 servings) and get milk, eggs & butter. We make one meal for dinner (2 servings) and have the other 1-2 portions for lunch. At first we wondered "is this gonna be enough?" and surprisingly, they are. We were finally eating balanced servings and consequently my partner has lost some weight. In the future, I could see us switching to the Acme's produce-only box if we want to save some money or have more time to shop/prep. Acme does not meet everyone's needs/priorities but if you like the convenience of meal kits, looking to incorporate balanced meals into your weekly rotation and wanting to support a local, family run business, check out Acme! read more

I love CSA's, and we've been long term subscribers to one in Arizona that runs year round (one of the benefits of having almost 300 days of sunshine per year). Seattle's CSA's only run 6-7 months out of the year, and we missed getting that weekly box of farm fresh goodies. I stumbled upon ACME literally by accident because of the name (remember the "ACME Co." in the Road Runner?) and quick look at their website told me that I'd found the perfect alternative to a CSA. Unlike a traditional CSA, ACME Farms doesn't ask for a long-term, upfront commitment. You can do a one time order if you prefer, but once you've tried them, I guarantee you'll want more. We decided to try the "grain + dairy free" box for our first order, and the large box was perfect for our family of six. It's supposed to provide you with 5 dinners, but those dinners are large enough to provide some nice leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. The produce is terrific, and if you're not sure what to do with a particular vegetable (hello, kohlrabi!), do not fear - everything they put in the box is incorporated into one of the 5 meal recipes. No confusion, and no waste. The meats are high quality as well, and everything is labeled with information on the farmer that raised it (no mystery meat here!). I'm a pretty good cook, but ACME's meal boxes have helped me to expand my horizon and incorporate more veggies into meals that my kiddos will actually eat. In addition to the meal boxes, they have salad kits, snack and happy hour kits, pantry items, and seasonal locally grown fruit. This past Thanksgiving, they offered pie kits (the ginger pear was yum!) as well as several ready-made dishes. The salad kits are meals in and of themselves, and even my kids look forward to salad night every Thursday. We've tried a couple of other meal box delivery services, but so far, ACME is our favorite. read more

I've been using ACME Farms + Kitchens off and on for about 5 years now. Starting when they only had a few bundles to choose from, and you just got what you got! I love supporting local companies, and have been very impressed with the quality of food I've received from ACME. I appreciate that the food they provide is local, from salmon, produce, cheeses, milk, bread.. everything! I've had a few issues in the past, such as things missing from my box or delayed delivery, but their customer service has always been amazing. For me, the small hiccups I've experienced with them is worth it to continue to support this family run local company. read more

I've been trying to get a hold of them for a week via phone, text, email, and Facebook messenger to no avail to resolve the issue. Not to mention that the last delivery I got half the greens that were included were wilted! The food was satisfactory, no complaints there, but on the second order the online system would not accept our gift card, even though it had a fairly large unused balance. My husband and I are both the offspring of farmers, and we enjoy supporting local farms while eating fresh food. It is difficult with a busy career to find time to make it to farmers markets or arrange to go purchase from local farms. We order some of the meals and eggs or dairy products through ACME and receive food from local farms (always better than the store). The convenience of having it dropped right at our door is wonderful. We are eating healthier, and everything tastes delicious! I love what ACME Farms is doing to help the community. read more

The company constantly strives to improve its quality in all aspects of its operation. If there is a mistake on an order they will fix it. I was also charged on 2/11 for a meal box for an order I didn't place and never got delivered. It is impossible to get a hold of this company. I used to LOVE this service, unfortunately, it has gone WAAAAY down hill. ZERO customer service and no way to contact them to address an issue, except email, which just goes unresponded repeatedly. They sent me the wrong food and I wanted to talk with someone, anyone, to correct this issue. Due to their complete lack of responsiveness to my issue (5 emails over a 2 week period and no telephone #), AND me giving them warning I planned to cancel the charge for my most recent box, they still ignored me. Visa canceled the charge, still nothing. You cannot run a business like this. Lost a regular customer for life. read more

Since becoming Acme Farms customers, our family has ordered boxes nearly every week. The produce is fresh (and not encased in the excessive wrapping seen with other menu-based deliveries), the menus are easy to follow and the meals are delicious! There is a wide variety of meals to choose from - and we appreciate the ability to pick and choose from vegan, vegetarian and meat-based options. This business is trying hard to provide a local alternative to meal subscriptions. Unfortunately they are well known for not paying their vendors, other local people trying to make an honest living. They won't respond to email, they don't answer their phone. The only way to get paid from these folks is to show up at their door demanding payment and you might get a fraction of your bill with promises to pay that never happen. If you want to support local farmers buy direct, at least you know they are getting paid. read more

We've been Acme customers since its beginning in 2011. It's been such fun to see them change and grow. Originally, I loved that they were a combination of a produce-based CSA with add ons, like bread, eggs, cheese, and milk. Then it was fun to join in as they developed meal boxes, to lobby for and then enjoy a vegan box, and to see how they have gained more and more customers. Acme provides an excellent model of local food procurement and delivery that can allow you to do have easy as pie food shopping, right to your doorstep. I could not say enough good things about these Acme boxes if I tried! The recipes, that are included with each box, means that I don't waste the food like I used to with other CSA boxes. The quality of the food is super high and the recipes are so delicious that I make them over and over again. I actually spend less on groceries now because I'm not buying a bunch of extras at the grocery store and I love not having to think about and shop for dinner all the time, I just pick a recipe and throw the (always easy) recipe together.
