We were recently in Bellingham for a track and field meet and after two long days of competition, decided to take the team down to the waterfront to relax and grab some food before our journey home back to Alaska. For whatever reason 80% of the team gravitated towards BBQ and I followed suit. And to say I wasn't disappointed would be an understatement. My athletes wiped out the Brisket and while the wait was only going to be 10 minutes, I went with a combo of Brisket and Country Fried Chicken. While I picked up some sauces to try, and they were awesome, I quickly realized they weren't needed as the brisket was basically melting as I picked it up with my fork, and while country fried chicken isent what i planned on getting at BBQ food truck, it was amazingly seasoned and tender. Also, I feel absolutely horrible for not catching his name but the guy who was taking orders, cooking, running food out to people, while also having some great banter with my athletes made it a great experience on top of great food. read more

I see all these great reviews and think maybe I just ordered wrong. We showed up 15 min before closing and they were out of the chicken and waffles that we were hoping to get. We ordered the Wander Wings and I didn't understand that they were already sauced. I was hoping for chicken tenders with sauce on the side. The tenders were just not meaty enough to support that amount of breading and sauce in my opinion. Next time I will pay closer attention and get some naked tenders. We split some fries and hush puppies. The fries were pretty tasty, but the hush puppies were cold, I think because they were closing. Will give it another try, as there aren't a lot of good BBQ options in town, and these guys park at breweries so our paths are bound to cross again! read more

Ryan came and provided dinner for our gathering of 71 adults last Saturday. BBQ Brisket, hand cut per person, smoked chicken, green salad, corn and bean salad, potato salad and hushpuppies. Everyone raved. Amazing service and the food was without comparison. This is a notoriously hungry group and there was more than enough food. They even provided bags for the leftovers. Stumbled upon this BBQ food truck at Stone Throw Brewery tonight! It was close to the end of their night and so we told them we were ordering for 6 people...he asked us if we would trust him with our order He put together 3 GENEROUS portions of food to be shared family style! We got *Beef Brisket, Black Bean and Corn Salad and Potato Salad *Mixed Greens and Hush Puppies *waffle Fries topped with Fry Sauce and Cheese! Everything was so delicious...the Beef Brisket so tender and so tasty! They also had many different sauces to add...we tried a little of everything...the one BBQ sauce was so good...tangy and great depth of flavour! We chatted with them a bit and they gave us a great deal on our family style plates! I called on a Friday for catering on Monday. I was to provide food for a high school basketball team after practice. ​Ryan made a few quick suggestions and after a quick phone call I was all set. I loved the can do attitude and talking to a real person on the phone. I Showed up, everything was packaged and ready to with utensils and paper plates It was super easy and a big hit with the team. So I haven't eaten here because they apparently have NO vegan options (including their fries), but the reason I'm rating is because they were incredibly rude while relaying this information. The truck was parked at Wander Brewing where we were having a couple of beers and we got a little hungry, so decided to see if they might have any options. My girlfriend and I simply asked if the fries were vegan and were spoken to very rudely and condescendingly. When we asked if they had any vegan options one of the employees said "they didn't think so..." and when we asked about the fries we were told "they're just fries, I don't know?!?" Rather than continue to feel embarrassed we walked away hungry and confused. As vegans we know that not every place will have options but usually find it always worth an ask especially when something seems probable -- like French fries. It's unfortunate that the people working the truck were so unwelcoming and rude because I don't assume that's the intention of the business owner. Hopefully the owner of Back East can better educate and/or train the staff working their truck how to interact with customers asking questions and what their food items contain. This is important not only for specific diets but ESPECIALLY allergens and should be treated that way. read more

It's been fun watching this "food cart" (though they don't even have a cart...yet) grow and mature over the past couple of years. It's clear this is a couple with a passion for BBQ, and (more importantly) a talent for pulling it off and creating some wonderful dishes. Their pulled pork is rich and delicious, and their brisket (which sells out quickly) is worth the trip. If you catch them on "$4 tapas" day it's fun to try several different small bites. Incredibly moist and flavorful pulled pork, perfect balance of smoke. The brisket was also nicely smoked and moist and tender, not dry at all. The variety of sauces is also nice. We came here on a Sunday when they were at Wander, thoroughly impressed with the meet that we have ordered a pound of pulled pork to go to make our own sandwiches at home. So far our favorite BBQ/smoked meat in Bellingham. My biggest qualm with this place....the buns/rolls!!!! Get rid of them!!!! Way too thick and dense, takes away from the tender delicate texture of the meats, all you get is a mouthful of bread and the meat totally gets lost. Overall 3.0 because the prices are really fair. Any more expensive and would be lower. Tried the "Whole Farm". Brisket was a bit like not roast and generally lacked the kind of barky, spicy tenderness that's become a necessity for me with it. Pulled pork was tender and juicy but also lacked that smoky essential umami that makes good BBQ so good. Potato salad was ok, lots of mayo but decent mustard flavor. The fried chicken tenders were a bit over fried and salty and not all that tender. The pork chop like thin cuts were strange and covered with an even stranger red sauce that was generic. If they keep at it and keep refining the approach it may improve. Tip** slice the brisket against the grain and keep that bark intact. I just shared this as part of a review for Stones Throw Brewery: Now, one other plus (about STB)...BACK EAST BBQ. I'd go here again on a Saturday knowing their truck was here providing food regardless of anything else. I am a huge BBQ aficionado and I measure "legit" by how someone does brisket. Their brisket was...TOTALLY legit. I also have to admit I had probably the MOST unhealthy meal in my life last night, but, it was also one of the best. Some sort of waffle fries/cheese/brisket/pork/chicken concoction that, at a half order, was perfect for three to share. I'm sorry...I'm a hoidy-toidy yacht chef and cook/serve 5* regularly, but this bowled me over. If I die after this meal, it will be worth it. Go, find them, eat THIS. It's mindblowing. Sorry I don't have a pic. If you try to order it, just describe it the way I wrote about it. Hell and Heaven on a waffle fry. They'll understand. So will you when you eat it! You can thank me... I have to expand this to say that I really "test" my BBQ places by seeing what they do with a brisket. I pretty much forced my husband to order the brisket plate. AND...lose the potato salad or come up with your own. This was not even worthy of being on your plate. The hushpuppies were a nice touch, but again...add cheese/jalapenos, some "character" to have it be worthy of what else is on that plate. The brisket...OMG...the brisket. So legit, so worthy...nice texture, great flavor and the bark...you nailed it. if it were me, I'd skip everything else on the plate and double up on the brisket. This is the best BBQ in Beeham. They are friendly and quite fast, actually. That is not to say that this is brilliant BBQ. But I am happy to see the food truck when I do. I enjoy the brisket and pork, tho I have to say at times the pork is dry... and the hush puppies are quite delish. The other thing is the value. This review would be 5 stars if the owner was a little easier to work with...with that being said, the food is delicious. We had Back East cater our wedding for about 160 guests. They were there on time, the food was wonderful and they helped clear all the plates and packed up the leftovers for us. We had so many people comment on how good the food was. We had pulled pork, chicken, black bean and corn salad, green salad, hush puppies and mac and cheese. Everything was really good, but I especially thought the chicken and mac and cheese were amazing. I don't know how they keep the chicken so tender and moist, but they do! And the flavor is soooo good. The mac and cheese....well, how can you go wrong with super gooey and cheesy macaroni. Yum! The prices were also reasonable for catering. They were cheaper than many of the places we checked and I think the food was better. My only complaint, like I mentioned at the beginning of the review, is that the owner was terrible to communicate with. I must've sent 10-12 emails or texts that I never got a response to, with questions about set up, arrival time, etc, and needing a copy of their food permit for the venue. I am a very "type A" person and I had a lot of stress leading up to the wedding because I had such a hard time communicating with them that I seriously thought they might not show up for the wedding. It comes with two hush puppies and a couple choices for sides. I always ask for their corn salad. That has become our go to when we end up at Wander on Sundays. Such good BBQ! I have eaten here many times when the truck has been at Wander and it is always amazing. Last time we split the Whole Farm plate that had pulled pork, brisket, pork loin, chicken strips, hush puppies and two sides. The chicken strips are a newer addition and they are SOO good, probably the best breading I have ever had, so flavorful and crispy. The pork and brisket is always so succulent and never dry. We just discovered the Back East BBQ food truck at the Stone's Throw brewery. The barbeque is as good as what I've had in North Carolina. The meat is tender and well flavored, the portions are generous, and the price is very reasonable. I really liked the corn and black bean salad and the hush puppies. They complemented the meat very nicely. The people working in the food truck are great, and I was told that the truck is in a different Bellingham location every day, so although I really like the atmosphere (and the beer) at the Stone Throw brewery, it's good to know that when I have a bbq craving, I can find the Back East food truck and get my fix. read more

We hired BEB to cater a meal for 20 for my mom's 80th birthday. She wanted the pork tenderloin with garlic, scalloped potatoes and the harvest salad.
