Just steps away from a recent Bronxville restaurant I visited is Acme Supermarket. This supermarket's convenient location allowed me an opportunity to check if they carried fresh seafood. I walked into a low-ceilinged, well-organized supermarket with the Produce section and Bakery department greeting me in the forefront. A few steps further in I spotted the small Seafood Department. I had hoped for a larger selection of items, specifically Chilean Sea Bass (CSB) which was unfortunately, but understandably unavailable. No matter, I picked up a few other items and proceeded to the checkout counters. The young gentleman manning the available register, greeted everyone politely and seemed quite helpful when asked a question. Even the customers waiting in line to check out were in a pleasant mood. I paid for my items and was in and out in no time. Though not having exactly what I wanted, Acme appears to serve their community well. I'm not new to this Acme location I usually stop in several times each month and the upgrades are really nice. However it is the first time that I placed an order w the deli. I asked the Man behind the counter for 1/2 pound of thinly sliced Genoa salami. I turned to the Sushi to check the selection. So I wasn't watching the deli man as he cut my order. I looked back to the deli man as he was finishing up and I could tell that the slices weren't that thin but I didn't say anything. What I could not see was how badly the slices were. the store isn't the greatest. but the delicatessen is the worst. 3 people working in there and they ignore you and talk to each other about you. i had this problem more than once with them. they are nasty to you. they try to make you feel like a fool. this past visit i had enough and got the assistant mgr and when they seen her coming they all triedto look busy. then the mgr was called and the male deli worker got nastywith me! i was waiting 10 minutes with no one on line and one worker saidhe wasbusy and another was making stickers and nowhere to put them and the third just was leaning on a counter doing nothing. i have had it with deli. never again will i go there which probably makes those workers happy because one less customer to be nasty to read more

So it was Grand Reopening day in Bronxville. I have to say I have never seen the store look so good BUT for a Grand Reopening there should be No Empty Shelves! (See pictures). Once again Acme has failed to execute. No one could transfer merchandise from another store?! Come on! I give this store two months before it is once again become a pathetic disaster due to poor management and low quality employees. Mike the supervisor informed a customer clearly greater than 60 years that he could not be sold six bottles of beer without ID. Mike advised this was the law however, this actually is the law: There is no law in Bronxville, New York, or New York State generally, that prohibits a supermarket from selling beer to a customer over 60 years old without asking for ID. The Bronxville Acme has been totally transformed...formerly, a run of the mill place that forced customers to go elsewhere, it is a totally new place with much larger selections, a top produce market and much more. I ordered 2 sandwich platters on Uber Eats. I figured no big deal if it let me order it's ok... I received a text from the driver telling me I needed to call the store... The deli clerk decides to scold me about not filling out a form.. Why would you let me order if a special magic form was needed?. Really? This place is actually allowed to operate in Bronxville? My brother had business in the area and I asked him to pick me up a salad. He returns with a $9.00 Caesar salad from this place and I decide to "feast" on it for lunch...wow, it was terrible and supposedly packed on the day he bought it on 7/20 (notice that it says to sell thru 7/25). I was going to include pictures of the chicken it consisted of, but, it wasn't worth the space on my phone. Dark chicken cubes with the consistency of grainy inedible something...I can't even muster words to describe it. Usually we only shop in this store for paper goods or detergents. However, today I needed carrots for a dinner that I was preparing for tonight (June 12). Buying carrots here was only for the sake of convenience. Living about 5 minutes from ACME I got home and opened the package of carrots. Horrified! See the pictures below. I wrote the Westchester Dept. of Health and enclosed photos of the molded carrots. If you aren't concerned about yourself and your family you will continue to buy your perishables at ACME. If I could give this place a NEGATIVE REVIEW ... I WOULD. I was shopping at the Acme in Bronxville NY in the produce department and I witnessed an employee in the ask her boss for another mask. This employees mask broke and she POLITELY asked her boss (store manager Carl Wickham) for a new one and he told her NO, they will not provide her another one (with a snippy attitude): As a shopper, I felt sickened by this managers lack of consideration for his employees safety. This employee was trying to protect herself as well as customers like me. This issue needs to be addressed especially with the growing cases of COVID-19 in Westchester NY and in GENERAL. I have reached out to corporate and have requested to connect with the district manager to express my concern. This is NOT something you take lightly and I feel for this poor woman! She and other employees like her are making it possible for people to shop the least they can do is protect their employees! Without employees, you would NOT be in business. read more

They do not understand what to do due to machines not giving the return receipts. Food not in proper storage. Spoiled milk early. I give up. I've been coming to this location and all the stores that have been in it for decades. It's the closest grocery store to me. Since ACME took over, it has become more and more of an exercise in masochism and today was my last visit. This wasn't the worst, mind you. That was probably the time when I asked a manager who happened to be on the floor if they sold chutney and she told me I was unreasonable for asking. At that time, there were still some of the old employees from when it was an A&P working there, and one of them quietly took me aside and told me what aisle the chutney was in. But today, I got cash back. The kid (16, 17?) holds out 2 $50s. I ask him if he has $20s. He says, "We're not allowed to make change." WTF? I haven't even taken the $50's out of his hand. I say, "That's not making change. Do you have $20s?" He sighs deeply, rolls his eyes extravagantly as if I have asked him to paint my house and says again, "We're not allowed to make change. You have to go to customer service." Because, be warned, customers. We must all do better than to attempt to inconvenience Little Ken this way. I could have made a complaint, but the management is where he got his stellar customer service demeanor. Store has plenty of selection but the service and staff make shopping here a bad experience. Young probably under paid check out staff who do absolutely nothing to assist the customer check out. I watched senior citizens struggling g to pack the bags with not a bit of assistance. Have to ask them to enter your phone so you can get the savings. Check outs act like the customer are just a pain while they struggle to pack up and pay. Sad. Used to be a great store. Makes one love Trader Joe's pleasant and helpful manner. The store in Bronxville is filthy and has limited options. It has deteriorated over time and has disappointed the community. As well, the bathroom is unattended and has an ofor that is embedded in the floor tiles. The Bronxville store isn't the largest but I can rely on it. Deli, produce, and dairy are fresh. Janet & Venus in the Deli slice real thin. Richie in dairy keeps the stock fresh. I find what I need in the produce. I can't speak about the meat since I go to Mini's around the corner. Many retirees work here. The gals at the check out, the stock gals, etc. all do a good job. I thank them all for getting us through the pandemic. I haven't forgotten. read more

It's hard to believe that this is the only supermarket in Bronxville. It's like a throwback to the 80s--a few sad organic fruits/vegetables, nothing very fresh. It's the sort of place you go to for stale angel food cake or Spaghettios. Coupled with the fact that there's rarely more than one cashier open, with 10 people in line. The products here are either not stored properly or are old. Refrigeration problems. Twice, almond milk was curdled (even with long range date), cashiers LICK their fingers, so their saliva is all over your groceries and bags. High prices, Workers that do do care and the cleanliness of the store is suspect, The refrigerators always seem to be broken or are set on warm. The cuts of meat are sinewy and chicken are always seems to have an orange shading. The Shoprite on Tuckahoe road while more crowded has better prices and selection. This store is nice but the slowest checkout. If you go after 5pm be prepared to wait 30 minutes or more to check out. They usually only have two checkers at a busy time. Friday night took the cake. An employee was on line and on the phone the whole time. We waited the predicted 20 mins (no exaggeration). She finally gets up to the checker and now starts looking for coupons while she still is talking on the phone. The checker who is a friends starts looking through he pile of coupons while the employee is still on the phone. Not one item was checked after another 10 mins. I complain to the person in charge who opens another line. Of course she doesn't address the employees. I move my groceries and check out. It took me 50 minutes to check out after 10 mins of shopping. Don't shop there unless you have unlimited time. read more

I bought some cheddar cheese that turned out to be moldy and green. I can't fault Acme here as the packaging was dark and you couldn't see the cheese. However, I did return the cheese - met a rude lady who had no interest in removing the other packages. I also spoke to the 'head of the cheese department' who was "on lunch". If you are looking for a super small super market with farting old ladies and cashiers who hate their jobs then this is the right place to find it! As stated in a previous review I have no idea how this place is in the middle of Bronxville since it is super outdated and an absolute mess! On a positive note, I'll give this place two stars since it had halo top ice cream (although limited on flavors) and "freshly" cut decently sized fruit bowls. I'll be back for more ice cream soon...so for the ACME corporation you can use this review as some constructive feedback? Maybe in return provide more halo top flavors and I'll be a happy yelper!
