Out of all the supermarket chains in White Plains like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, Hmart and ACME- I'm not sure who's the fiercest competitor- because each of them make a play for our daily food dollars in different ways. But as we are all taking every precaution on being safe during the Coronavirus pandemic, I recently visited my local Stop & Shop in N. White Plains and noticed they were all out of sanitizing surface wipes, not enough water, limited canned goods or TP (I still don't get that part but yeah....I drank the toilet paper kool-aid) so I came here. Let's talk about the elephant in the room- their rating is just low and I'll admit, this location is outdated, ceiling panels are outdated, I feel closed in and sometimes the produce doesn't look happy. Anyhow...even though I'm in the 100A Rt, Dobbs Ferry Rd and Knollwood Rd. area like daily, somehow, that's still not enough to make me want to shop here- perhaps all those reasons? Located in the Greenburgh Shopping Center, ACME isn't as large as most supermarkets go but it does the job. Especially when I recently visited to stock my pantry and hallway closet. ACME's layout still remains the same since taking over the old A&P, produce shelves and all others don't look that empty plus aisles are ok and workable I guess. Their dairy section- especially the yogurt, is one to rave about when I noticed the same Chobani (dairy) yogurt brand I swore by, has a non-dairy, coconut milk-based option- which my local Stop & Shop doesn't have or my much-loved Trader J's. Sometimes I even compare my most commonly purchased items, and how they compare price-wise at each competing market. Quality and variety is important to me so when stacked up against Stop & Shop, I think ACME might be the most economical (for certain things) out of the two- plus their non-dairy supply (in my case) is much better- as I noticed.

    Rotten avocados!

I was so disappointed when I cut open my avocados and all four of them were completely rotten inside. I purchased them from Acme in Yonkers two days ago. They were still too hard to eat, so I waited until today to cut them open and they were absolutely inedible! All four avocados were rotten ) : ACME, you've got to do much better than this for your customers!!

I was able to run in and out and get what I needed in a smooth and timely matter. It made me think why are all Wegmans not laid out in the same way, space allowing of course. Their shelves were fully stocked, and the staff was there if needed. I also love that the parking lot was dedicated specifically to Wegmans so there was no additional stores making it a complicated situation. Easy to get to right after the highway if you are in route somewhere and not local.

I am here on a trip now and have noticed the location has gone a bit downhill. I can't go into all the details but it's an overall impression based on a few interactions with employees, the way food products are displayed, the breakfast area looking very sloppy with equipment and supplies left around as well as other impressions. I wonder if management has either recently changed or has it just been a slow slippage. Either way, it's a bit disappointing but I will continue to go there out of necessity.

The store is clean, and shelves are orderly and well-stocked when they have stock. Sale prices are always a goodly contrast with the regular price, and at least make shopping semi-affordable there. Their prices are always at least a dollar more per item, than most other stores, yet one should still check, item by item, for where this is NOT the case. The front desk people and managers are sometimes, off doing other jobs, so there is a wait at the front desk, to have things done, that only that counter can accommodate. Though there is an area for getting mini-shopping carts and hand-held shopping baskets, at the register, near the automated registers. The baskets are often returned to the parking lot entrance, by staff, so that anyone coming in the front entrance, has to walk all the way out near parking, to get one, if they are not lucky enough to get one while they are near the front. Sometimes, old produce is sold at the price of fresh, which should not be the case, at those prices, so it's best to fully inspect such purchases. The small tables in the seating area have been replaced. The new chairs, accpmpanying them, are so hard that its not a relaxing or comfortable place for eating anymore, and they so cheap, that the finish is wearing off of them, already.......They look raggedy. My new and most important addition to my revised review, is what has happened with 365 STEVIA POWDER. IT WAS BAD ENOUGH, ALEADY, THAT IT'S FROM CHINA, BUT NOW THE SUBSTANCE ITSELF, HAS BEEN CHANGED. IT USED TO BE POWDER, BUT NOW IS MORE GRANULAR, AND DOES NOT TASE LIKE PURE STEVIA. OBVIOUSLY THE PROCESSING HAS CHANGED, AND PROBABLT NOT SAFE !!! WHOLE FOODS ISN'T MAKING ENOUGH OFF OF CUSTOMER, SO THEY HAVE TO SUPPL;Y SNEAKY SUBSTITUTES ???? ANOTHER STAR LOST.

The produce is always fresh, and I appreciate the variety of organic items. They have a wide vierety of specialty items available as well. The staff seem knowledgeable, and always willing to help with a friendly disposition. The hot bar and prepared foods section offers lots of healthy and tasty options. Definitely one of my favorite places to shop for groceries.

Maybe I'm Missing the Trader Joe's Hype?…read more I'm genuinely not sure what all the rave is about when it comes to Trader Joe's. ‍ We recently stopped in, and I went in expecting this eclectic, health-forward shopping experience that I've heard so much about. Instead, I walked out wondering if Trader Joe's is more of a trend than anything else. For starters, I honestly didn't feel like there was that much to choose from. There seemed to be a HUGE emphasis on snacks, packaged items, and frozen foods. I expected a much broader and more interesting variety of fresh foods, fruits, vegetables, and unique healthier options. And some of the nutrition labels caught me off guard. For example, I picked up a can of chickpeas with cumin and parsley and noticed it had around 740 mg of sodium per serving--with only two servings in the can. That really made me question the "health-forward" reputation I've always associated with Trader Joe's. Of course, not everything in a grocery store has to be low-sodium or healthy, but I guess my expectations were simply different based on everything I've heard. Ambiance- Then there was the shopping experience itself. CHAOTIC! The store was so crowded and hectic that we could barely maneuver through the aisles comfortably. People and carts everywhere, and instead of casually browsing and discovering new things, I felt like we were just trying to get through the store. To be fair, there were definitely some interesting products, and I can understand why people might have their favorite Trader Joe's items that keep them coming back. Maybe I need another visit--or someone who is a Trader Joe's fanatic to tell me exactly what I'm supposed to be looking for! But based on this visit alone? 3 stars. It wasn't terrible by any means, but I walked in expecting to understand the Trader Joe's obsession...and walked out still wondering: Is Trader Joe's really that special, or has shopping there simply become part of the trend?
