An acquaintance referred me to DLK on Avenue after praising the quality of their services, so I was feeling quite curious when I arrived for my first consultation. My first impression was a positive one. Right away, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who made pleasant small talk with me while confirming my appointment details. I arrived a few minutes early, so I got a chance to soak in the atmosphere of the bright, spacious lobby. It didn't take long before I felt completely at ease. My visit with Dr. Kellett was a long and thorough one. From the way she answered my questions, I can tell that she was a true professional who was very knowledgeable in her area of expertise. We had a detailed discussion about my condition, and she recommended several treatments while explaining the pros and cons of each option. Throughout our meeting, she remained kind, patient, and very sensitive to my feelings. Since then, I have been visiting DLK on Avenue for over a year and my impression remains largely the same. This is a fantastic place for quality services in skincare treatment and I highly recommend it!

However, I was given a skin lighting cream to use in conjunction with my treatments and was not told that I needed to stop three days prior to my appointment. I ended up going to my appointment but was told that I needed to move the appointment to a different day since I had just used a lightening skin cream that morning. I was told to email the director to reinstate my appointment. In January he emailed me back and reinstated my appointment. I then went to the appointment he reinstated. Please find attached screenshots for reference of our communication. That happened in January and fast forward we are now in April. As time passed I really wasn't satisfied with the service provided so I decided to leave a review a week ago. After my review the owner unprofessionally revoked my last treatment session coming up in May. This was a complete separate appointment with a different laser which I paid for separately from the one he reinstated. I have already paid in full and he has not provided me a refund. He decided to cancel my last upcoming appointment out of spite due to my bad review and is trying to link it to the missed appointment that he already reinstated in January (almost 5 months ago). I truly wish I had read reviews before booking at this establishment. My background as a nurse gives me a different perspective. Some staff members seemed underqualified, contributing to an uncomfortable environment from the beginning. During my second laser session, the nurse appeared unsure of how to use the laser and needed assistance. The procedure was incredibly painful, resulting in scarring. Despite assurances that this was normal, the pain was intense, and six treatments have not improved the scars. I need to mention that a-lot of 5 star reviews are misleading because the owner often reinstates appointments in exchange for reviews. While I understand that not every client will have a negative experience, it's crucial to take the poor reviews seriously. Sometimes the issues can be remedied by how it is handled. However, the way the owner handles issues at this company demonstrates a lack of professionalism and extreme immaturity. In response to any criticism, he decides to just cancel your appointments unethically. I caution you that if you do have any negative feedback please leave them after all your appointments have been completed. Please see attached photos:

I was really excited because I do believe she's great at what she does and she specializes in black skin, which is a plus. A couple days ago I was alerted at work that my covid rapid test had come back positive. I was asked to take a follow up PCR test then go home. I knew I had my appointment on Monday, so I gave Rea notice. She requires 48hrs, I gave 24hrs. Bear in mind, it is Sunday afternoon and I've just been told that I've tested positive for covid. I explained that to Rea and she immediately informed me that I am to etransfer her the amount for my "late" cancellation ($195.00) or she will cancel all my appointments. I was taken aback and was very put off by this response. I respect the policy of any business I frequent, however I strongly belive that sensitivity, tact and compassion are pillars in customer service and in that moment, Rea was deeply lacking in those traits. Fortunately she was able to cover an hour of the appointment and told me to send her $65 instead or she will cancel the rest of my appointments. Because I was still willing to move forward with her despite insensitivity, I e-transferred her the amount. But after much thought, I decided that I am not interested in doing business with someone who cannot understand that in uncertain times like this - life happens. It's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to finally being hair free after struggling with this for so long. However "good work", as she calls it, means nothing without sensitivity and tact. P.S. I'd like to note that she requires payment for missed appointments or late cancelations because that means she loses money - which is fair. But I'd ALSO like to note that as a client, I'm paying for gas/transit, parking, my time, as well as paying for the actual service. I'm not requesting a free service or special favors. And although she has "no exceptions". I think exceptions should be made for Covid. I even told her I could send her a copy of my results to prove I was being truthful, because I was that serious about moving forward with her.

Currently I am using the Ducray face wash, which this clinic sells and the toner they medically prescribe. My skin is clearing up and becoming normal again. Over the years I have visited a few acne clinics and this is the one that has stood by me over the years. I recommend you check them out if you suffer from acne. If they advise you to stop using moisturizer and your skin doesn't start producing oil in a 6+ months, definitely return to see how they can help you. I went through one very scalely year when I was told not to use moisturizer.

Apparently, one milia was hard to extract, so - without first informing me - Dr Sliwowicz - decided to cut it out. I now have a big (2mm) cut under my eye, which he had to "glue" back together. Can't wear makeup and it looks like I got in a bar fight. It made me cancel my evening plans. He promises it will heal in 10 days, so I will update then. Right now - I'm really upset. If my undereye is messed up forever because of a poorly executed $25 extraction, I'm going to sue him. Either way, I think a doctor should ask before he cuts out a piece of your face! Especially when it's a cosmetic clinic so obviously I'm there to look better not a hell of a lot worse!
