We got a quote for $2,800 but spent over $5,695 on a marker that failed to meet cemetary design rules the first attempt and then failed to meet their quality inspection on the second attempt. 1. Cemetery Design Rules We paid Acropolis $2,800 for the first version of the marker. They said that they had experience working with most San Diego cemeteries and had made many deliveries to our cemetary. We were therefore surprised when the cemetary told us that the grave marker was missing the bronze top that goes on top of the granite and therefore could not be installed. Acropolis did not check the cemetery's design rules prior to production. They said that it was our responsibility to tell them what the design rules were... 2. Quality Issues Acropolis asked for an additional $2,895 to add the bronze bringing the total to $5,695. When this second version arrived, the cemetery's marker department flagged multiple quality issues and took photos of those issues (see below). When asked by the cemetary team whether they had sent us photos of the marker, Acropolis said yes. When asked by the cemetary team to see the photos that were sent to us, it was clear that the photos were taken in such a way as to avoid showing any of the quality issues. The cemetery team sent us the following email: "Upon receiving and inspecting the marker, we identified several concerns that we want to bring to your attention before moving forward: - Areas of missing brown paint on the bronze - Multiple scratches present on the bronze - Uneven bronze pour within the frame of the plaque - Noticeable scratches on the granite base to which the bronze is attached" 3. Starting From Scratch with Express Monument Rather than continuing with Acropolis and paying yet more money (Acropolis asked for upfront payment), I walked away from Acropolis with nothing to show for the $5,695 spent. I hired a separate company, Express Monument, and paid them $3,000 for a brand new grave marker. . When our Dad passed, we bought the marker/headstone from Acropolis with the name of our Mom inscribed, since they were married 75 years and would be in the same plot eventually. Her date of birth was added and upon her death they agreed to engrave the date of her death. That day came in June, so we contacted the business for the engraving of the date of her death and paid the price. Unfortunately, what we saw at the grave was that they engraved the date of death in a different font/size, which didn't match. The engraver MUST noticed this and STILL installed it that way. My husband and I have been contacting the business for MONTHS, only to hear that it's going to take more and more weeks to replace it. It's ridiculous! Every attempt to get them to simply match my dad's stone for my mom with a slightly different decoration took forever and was wrong every time. Yelp should really update their platform to leave 0 stars. Because some businesses deserve just that. I won't be able to write out the entire ordeal, cause that's exactly what it was, an ordeal. But I'll sum it up. This was probably the worsttttt experience I've ever had in my life with any business, in any industry. Funny enough you would expect decency from someone who works with people during the worst times of their lives. Him (Eddie) and his assistant Claudia, are just horrible people. While you are mourning and planning your loved ones final resting/headstone, they will be doing everything they can to delay your headstone, up charge you for details you want added onto the headstone, even though you already included it in your original contract, and best of all, still not produce the headstone you paid for and THEN paid for AGAIN. Can't really blame the assistant though, because you can see she knows he is mentally unstable, but hey, she needs to get paid right.. forget actually doing your job and maintaining records and notes of customers headstone requests, right? He completely destroyed my sisters headstone and did not care. We waited 7months to make my sisters headstone perfect and to reveal it on her birthday after we had already planned and invited our family and friends, and very clearly specified it needed to be done before 06/12. It was NOT ready on time to our embarrassment. And guess what he also does?? In a rush to produce a product that was already not delivered on time, instead of making sure you don't let this customer down any further- he takes an old draft of the headstone layout and carves that into the stone, making it permanent, unless we were willing to spend another 7,000-8,000, AND/OR wait 7 or however many more months for a new headstone to be shipped. Another time when we went to check on updates, (and he still hadn't even started) he refused to include a second picture of my sister on her headstone, claiming we only paid for 1. COME TO FIND OUT (after I found the original invoice) MY OTHER SISTER PAID FOR 3 PICTURES ON THE HEADSTONE!!!! SO HE MADE US PAY ADDITIONAL TO ADD A SECOND PICTURE EVEN THOUGH WE ALREADY PAID FOR 3. He tried to lie and say we didn't pay for the vases on the headstone, we did. He complained that the poem we wanted to have written on the back of her headstone was too long and he doesn't want to do it and asks if he can shorten it.. after charging/quoting for it!!! Getting him to do anything was like pulling teeth and my dad would even bring him food because he "wanted some Ethiopian food".. and STILLL he would drag his feet to get anything done and talk very condescendingly to my dad. Even when you come in to discuss details and designs for the headstone throughout the process, he talks about his own life and vacations he wants to go on and his girlfriend. Literally nobody cares about your life you drug addicted loser *allegedly*. You're very lucky you encountered a man like my father who gave you the grace you absolutely do not deserve because had it been up to me, you wouldn't have a business to call your own still, you grifter. What makes things worse is that, he is the go to in the Ethiopian community in regard to purchasing headstones. I will do everything I can to spread the word about not going to his business!! Please RUN, not walk to nearest business which is --Conti and Son Monument. It is right next door. Their mission statement is literally about treating customers with respect and kindness during this difficult time, unlike Acropolis designs!! It's like they know their next door neighbors aren't s*** . I truly regret not having went with Conti and Son Monument based on my community's trust in Acropolis. And please if you've already made the mistake of doing business with this man Eddie at Acropolis West designs, SAVE ALLL OF YOUR INVOICES/RECEIPTS!! He's either a crackhead or grifter.. but either way will not get the job done correctly and will cost you unnecessary stress and $$!! If you've lost someone dear to you and want to honor their memory properly, please stay away from this place. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. So, I went with my brother-in-law to order a flat stone for my husband. We discussed with them exactly what we wanted. We wanted a type of stone they already had at their store. Edward showed us that stone when we first met him at the store. So, the point is that the stone was already there, and he didn't need to order it. He just needed to cut it to meet the correct standards. Then, we discussed with him exactly what we needed to write and how we wanted the brass to look. He sent us a design via email, but the design was completely wrong. The dimensions were all off. Of course, we asked him to fix it, which he never did. So, we had to hire an engineer to design for us. After that, we handed the design to Edward. Basically, we had to do his job for him. We also wanted a particular font, which he didn't have. Instead of telling us it was hard to provide that font, he passed us off to someone in charge of fonts. He said that we needed to contact that person. It turned out to be a total waste of time because that person just sent us back to him. So, we spent a good time sending back-and-forth emails between both of them with no results. After months of waiting, I'd finally had enough and asked him to cancel the order. And I asked him politely for my downpayment back. Seriously, all he did was waste our time and add stress while we've been dealing with this horrible loss. You won't believe his response. He literally told me he was not giving me my money back because I would go to a different place to do the job and use the money to pay them. WHO DOES THAT? It's my money, and he had no business telling me how to use it. He almost hung up on my face after refusing to give me my downpayment back, telling me he had spent many hours working on our order, which he never did. If I could, I'd give him zero stars. It was completed and installed at the cemetery. Only problem is the font was actually crooked. Perfectly obvious! The person that did it as well as the one installing it HAD to see it and never said a word. I don't know if they were hoping we wouldn't notice or figured once they got it in the ground they would just ghost us and not respond. I'm thinking the latter as that is exactly what they did! We contacted them numerous times via phone and e-mail. We were told the man that made it would " fix it". Not sure how you fix a mistake in stone without it looking like crap! We told them we paid a lot of money for a NEW headstone. I think expecting the font to be straight is a reasonable expectation. If it's not, you do it over!... not " fix" the brand new stone. If your loved one has passed & you want to mourn PEACEFULLY, STAY AWAY! from this place. Our family paid Rascon in full $2000 in August of this year "22. We ordered a headstone for my sister, the 1st couple of weeks he repeatedly ask for her picture that we wanted on the headstone. We sent it several times & Rascon said that he never received it. Finally by the end of that same month in August, he said he got it & he will get the headstone ready asap!. Here we are 3months later & I've spoken to him 3 times this month already. He said he will call me when he prepare to send headstone out to the cemetery & that he needed $200 more for shipping fee. Rascon also told me that he doesn't work there & that He's only helping out the owner ( he is the owner). This man is a Scam , he is scamming people at a DELICATE/VULNERABLE time of their life where Rascon should have sympathy, humanity, Compassion & sincerity & basic understanding! Rascon has NONE OF THESE QUALITIES! To be in this kind of buisness. Overall he has added more STRESS to our family than anything! while we're still dealing with our loved one passing.
