If I could leave 0 stars I would. My father passed away on 03/12, I contacted Legacy on 03/17 for a quote, didn't hear from anyone until 03/19 and was quoted $995. We agreed to the $995 and filled out all required paperwork. Shortly after Legacy emailed us an invoice for $2,156. There were multiple miscellaneous charges. I spoke with AJ at Legacy who stated they weren't charges on his behalf but charges the medical examiner will charge Legacy. These charges were over $600. I spoke to the medical examiner's office and they confirmed they do not charge any fees for services and that Legacy is trying to take advantage of me and the situation. The invoice also stated they were charging me $145 for an overweight heavy duty container. My father passed away from Leukemia, he was 120 pounds. When I asked AJ at Legacy where they got all these charges from he said "it was probably a typo when typing up the invoice." After speaking with AJ about my conversation with the Medical Examiners office and how they don't charge anything and about the heavy duty container cost, he said he'll remove the charges from the invoice and send me a new one. As of today, 03/27 I still have yet to receive a new invoice with the removed charges. I emailed and called but AJ won't except my calls. I spoke to a lady who said the Director is reviewing the charges and they are awaiting approval. I asked how long this will take and why these new charges have to be approved? She put me on hold, came back and said they are passing my information along to another cremation facility but wouldn't give me the contact information. I've never been so disappointed. Legacy should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Taking advantage of people who are grieving and trying to put they're loved ones to rest. Makes me sick. read more

Please do NOT use this facility. They were assigned to our family by Legacy and the process was the most unprofessional encounter our family could have experienced. We had to follow up multiple times to attempt to locate our loved one, find out where and when to pick up his cremains, and when to expect the death certificate. Our loved one died on 6/14/2023 and was released by the ME in the State of DE on 6/26 after confirmation of DNA. We have a family member who runs a funeral home in the State of Maryland who recommended Legacy call and get a quote. He was quoted by Legacy $669 for cremation. When I called them, they said it was Cremation $1295, each death cert is $25 and the alt cremation package is $95. That would have been $1415. I understood additional death cert copies would be $25 apiece. Legacy did quickly send me the invoice via email with the forms attached and the message of: Please see attached our three-page itemized invoice that our office requires to be signed and sent back at your earliest convenience. For your convenience, please fill out our credit card form with your payment information. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. We must have all signed forms and payment in full prior to the cremation of your loved one. The invoice was NOT the $1415 it was $2379.30. When you are put in the situation of your loved one is deceased, the remains laying there in a ME's office, and your only recommendation is from a family member who has been in the business for 7 generations, you pay the bill and hope that the rest goes smoothly. IT DID NOT! I followed up on 6/29 with Legacy asking for an update as to when I could pick up my child and the death cert and what next steps would be. I received a response from Legacy on 6/29 they would follow up with the funeral home and let me know. I heard NOTHING until I called on July 6th. Again, Legacy said they would follow up. I did receive a call back from Legacy and was told that my son would be picked up and cremation would be performed on 7/8. I was provided the phone number of the funeral home (McPhersons) and I called and was advised I should call on Monday to plan for pickup of cremains and death cert. I called on Monday 7/10 to make arrangement to come on Tuesday 7/11 to pick him up and was advised to "call "tomorrow and we will see if we can locate him since we have 2 locations and if we got around to doing the death certs, we do those on Tuesdays". I took Tuesday 7/11 off since I knew it would be an emotional day and called McPherson's in the early afternoon and was advised "We could pick up our son at the HARRINGTON ROYAL FARMS" and the death certs were still not ready, they had not gotten around to getting them done yet. I was in TEARS!!! My son deserved better than this. However, I just wanted his cremains to be with me and not misplaced or driving all over in a hearse. My husband drove me up to the HARRINGTON ROYAL FARMS, met a hearse in the parking lot and signed off using the passenger side window of the hearse. To add more salt to the wound, our son was cremated 7/5. They advised Legacy it would be done on 7/8. We were advised the death certificate was not ready yet but would be ready later that day and they would be overnighted to me. Today is now FRIDAY 7/14. We have NO death certificate, only the memory of picking our beloved son up in a parking lot in DE of a convenience store. I have called Legacy to report, and they called the funeral home, and the funeral home told them there was nothing they could do at this point. Legacy suggested an apology, but McPherson's did not agree to calling me. Legacy did apologize on the funeral home's behalf. PLEASE do not use this facility, NOBODY should have to chase down where their deceased is, be misinformed of cremation dates, not called back in a timely fashion, have to wait for them to "get around" to processing the death certificate and pick their loved one up in a parking lot of a convenience store. read more

Just not understanding why my grandmother was left in a freezer for 10 days before being cremated? This companies employees are rude and very incompetent. After her being left for 10 days we weren't notified that her ashes were ready to be picked up until 9 days after the cremation process! They are cold and rude. I wish I could give a zero rating. My step son passed away unexpectantly while living in a residential home for the disabled. The Mortuary said they'd come to pick up his body in two hours. It was more like four. Unfortunately my husband suffers from Parkinson's dementia. He is 80. After sitting with his son's body for hours, he became confused and disoriented. When we arrived at the my stepson's home, we entered his room and found him lying peacefully in his bed. He had dark circles under his eyes. The following night, my husband woke from a nightmare after seeing his son dead with "raccoon eyes". He said he didn't want to see that ever again. He stated he wanted to see his son "thru a window" but didn't want to see "those eyes".... I called to speak with someone at the Mortuary to find out if it was possible to lighten up the areas below his eyes for a viewing. I explained my husbands situation and the fear and anxiety he is experiencing. I spoke with JoAnn. She answered by stating "We aren't magicians, but we do what we can". I was so disgusted with her "We're not magicians" comment that I addressed this remark stating I wasn't looking for a magical trick, just trying to figure out if anything could be done to help with my stepson's appearance so my husband, his father, wouldn't experience even greater emotional trauma. Joann informed me my step son's mother "hadn't done anything" (after 4 days). I asked if he'd been embalmed. He had not, as again, his mother hadn't "done anything". When asked how long his body would be okay for viewing without embalming, Joann stated, "about 7-10 days". This conversation took place late in the afternoon on a Thursday, day 4. Since the weekend was approaching fast I expressed concern about the reality of a viewing since Monday would be day 8. Knowing he had not been embalmed, I expressed my concerns about not only the darkened eyes but the decomposition issue. Joann reminded me that she had to get the mother's okay to talk to me, reminding me that I was not next of kin. I explained that I understood that but my husband, could not articulate his concerns so I was trying to help, and avoid subjecting him to something he couldn't handle. Throughout our discussion, Joann would constantly state how much extra this was and that was. This info was unsolicited by myself and while I realize everything has a price, listening to her "pricing babble" made it obvious that everything they do, everything, is about money. She then told me she wanted to send my husband some forms to his email to sign. I explained that my husband can't use a computer so asked her to snail mail anything. She then told me to "just grab his hand and sign for him". What a piece of work. I would never, ever, use this mortuary. I read some of the reviews prior to mine and what people have experienced, at a time when they are in the most pain, is heartbreaking. Update: I received a heartfelt apology from Joann. We all make mistakes and accepting responsibility for something we've done wrong takes fortitude. My hats off to her for that. read more

I called Legacy shortly after a friend passed away, at the recommendation of the Navy (since the navy does not do cremation). I was told a funeral director would call me back right away. No one did. I called the next day, and they acknowledged my prior message, and again said someone would call me back. Still no response. I tried again on the third day, but again received no response. I then moved on to another company, who gladly took my call and got things coordinated promptly. It has now been two weeks, and nobody from Legacy ever called me back. I even told them this was regarding an active duty serviceman, but that didn't seem to help. This place should be ashamed. Save yourself the frustration and call elsewhere. read more

They have special pricing for SDMS members where they provide transparent pricing on all services. It felt so good knowing I won't be pressured to upgrade anything when that final day is here. Although they were on time with my dads body, we did not have the best experience. Besides nickel and diming us on everything (anything you ask for is $500 more dollars), things were pretty unorganized. He was being buried at Miramar national cemetery and was getting a military ceremony for his burial. This was supposed to be worked out between the mortuary and cemetery. The mortuary told me that. When we got there they hadn't arranged the veterans to perform the ceremony, nor did they have the flag for it. read more

Where to start..the pricing was not clear, we had to do everything over the phone, add-ons were constant and every time I had to fax more papers. The worst part was when I saw my brother laying on a metal gurney with two old hospital goes held together with safety pins. I was told it would cost $100 to put a shirt on him..REALLY!! My brother looked like they took him out of the freezer on the gurney and pushed him in the room. It was awful. You could see the metal and wheels. It was sterile, and worst of all they had Christmas music playing. I cried because I didn't want to leave my brother with these people because I felt like they showed no compassion for my family. read more

A $175 of this was for a filing fee that was for paperwork I had filled out personally. $140 of this was for a plastic bag. $200 of this was for a non agreed upon plastic container. Legacy facility's hallway window was the perfect solution for these crazy times where nearly no one is allowing a viewing. She is also working to help facilitate the transfer for the all important brain autopsy to diagnose my dad's cause of dementia. Good value for cremation services, and did not object to me buying the urn from Costco. But it took seven weeks from day of death until cremains were ready; Legacy blamed their contracted crematory. (Legacy is good at blaming their subcontractors.) Nothing was done right the first time. Even the name and address were wrong the night of the body pickup. Death certificate draft had to be revised multiple times to correct errors. I did not trust Legacy to arrange a military funeral at Miramar National Cemetery; better off doing it myself. So, they are competitively priced and always polite, but efficiency and attention to detail were lacking. Will not use them again. read more

From the first time we connected with Rudee in the summer to discuss plans for our dad's eventual passing, to his funeral service with military honors on monday at Miramar National Cemetery (MNC) ... Rudee went above and beyond to ensure dad and our family were treated with care, comfort, and respect. We knew we wanted a funeral home that had experience working with MNC, and we got a referral from hospice that Legacy had a good reputation of working with MNC. Good isn't the correct word to describe Legacy's reputation. Honestly, great isn't even close either. They were simply FANTASTIC to work with, and they took care of everything at MNC so dad was "sent off" with a horse and carriage ride, a live bugler playing taps, and also honor guards to fold his American flag. Rudee was so responsive and very accommodating from beginning to end. She was able to schedule a viewing within 3 days, and also secure the exact date and time for dads service at MNC two weeks later. Even though it was a very sad day for my family, every one of us felt that it was an absolute perfect day for dads service at Miramar, and much of it can be attributed to Rudee and also the wonderful folks at MNC. They are experienced with veterans funerals in particular which was helpful since our Mom was interred at Riverside National Cemetery. I appreciated the lack of upselling, in our case it was a simple service with no viewing but we quickly were able to choose a coffin and most importantly they handled scheduling the funeral date with the cemetery which was a huge burden off me.
