I have been using the same HVAC person for the past 20 plus years. The last couple quotes I received from "my guy" were inordinately high. I started calling around for competing bids and received a very competitive bid, less than 1/3 of "my guys" bid, however reviews were not-so-great. I called ACS and someone actually answered first call (and all subsequent calls-an actual person answered!) to request a bid. Jason was able to visit the jobsite that day to give me a bid. Full disclosure, I provided ACS with the 2 bids I'd already received. Jason came back with a very fair bid, a bit higher than my lowest bid, but still way under "My Guy". This was for a new furnace and ductwork. From my first call to the completion of the job happened in under a week. VERY professional. Crew was considerate and clean. Jason is awesome as well as the rest of the crew like Gilbert that lead the installation, the head electrician, other technicians and down to the drywall tech. ACS was able to work within our budget. This was very important to us whereas other companies I felt like they were upselling and some bad mouthed other competitors (red flags). I never felt like I was being sold to by Jason instead we talked as he informed and educated us on the different options and the best configuration for our household. I have talked to several companies and ACS came out on top. The test was actually saying, "Yes, let's do it!" Aggreeing is always the shaky part but I'm glad we did because ACS sure delivered! On a hot day, the Mitsubishi unit we chose is superb. It pumps crisp cold air fast! Heat too. Because it is a split unit, we are being efficient by heating or cooling only rooms that we are actually using versus central air. Oh, this split unit is so fast, have I mentioned that already? Haha! It is so quick. It's like having instant gratification and bliss on hot days or nice heat on cold nights and oh so quiet! We are impressed and thankful. I wish I could give this place a better review because the technician was really nice, but sadly that isn't enough. He came by and quickly determine that there were issues with the external portion of the AC system, which is why it wasn't blowing cold air. This was all due to a failed motor and fuse. The issue was fixed for (ouch) $866 in about 30 minutes. Fast forward several days. It is still working, but doesn't seem cold enough. He then returns and says there's a motor issue with the internal portion of the AC unit, and the filter was clogged/no good. Now, I'll admit that the filter is my fault, but is there a reason he didn't check everything the first time around? I spend an additional $400 the second time he came out. I can't say this place has thorough technicians after this experience. Not terrible, but I also wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. read more

These folks are incredibly responsive, professional and thoughtful. They removed an old furnace and installed a heat pump in the attic during a horrible heat wave. I have no idea how they were able to work up there for 4 straight days but they never once complained; they even put in extra long days to get everything installed for us more quickly. They brought in a mobile AC unit because it was so tough for us all to sleep at night in the heat; we were blown away by that! Everyone we interacted with from ACS was kind, patient, punctual and helpful. We would absolutely hire them again. Original Review: Background: I had a small brand new room-AC system installed. The total for the AC unit was around $5000. But it never quite worked right. I had ACS / American Comfort Services (from El Cajon) out to fix it. ACS came out, gave the right reassurances that it was an easy enough problem to fix, etc. I set an appointment. So far so good. When the tech arrived for the appointment, he opened up the system and apparently was unsure of what to do. So he said he would call the tech support for the AC manufacturer to get advice on how to fix the problem, but it was nothing to be worried about. He sat in his truck, doing absolutely nothing I could see for 1 hour. I watched him. Another hour went by. Nothing. He was fiddling on his phone, eating a snack, etc. At the 4 hour mark, I went out to see what the problem was. He said he was still on the phone / on hold with the manufacturer. He then left for the day. Nothing solved. He came back the next day. Sat in our driveway in his truck, doing zilch - nothing at all. Didn't even go to the AC unit. Another 4 hours passed!! I was beyond frustrated as at this point, i've taken a day and half off of work already. At 3:00 pm, he came to the door with a $1500+ bill, told me which part to order, told me to look around for where it was in stock myself, and said that after I ordered the part for him he would try to get me a discount on his time to come back and install it. To summarize: I just paid $1500+ for him to sit in his truck for 2 days, fix nothing, watch him play video games, eat some food. Then, I have to order the part (i don't know anything about AC systems -- which is why i called him), and then pay him even more to put it in (or is it for him to sit in his truck again? Not sure.) Needless to say, I didn't call them back. I don't have another $1500 to waste. This is the biggest scam, waste of money, dishonest behavior I've ever encountered. I don't know if they took advantage of me because I was home alone with nobody else to back me up, or whether they do this to everyone. After he left, I called the company's mainline, they "promised" to make things right. How, I asked - maybe actually fix the problem? Maybe not charge me $1500 so the tech can get a high score on his video game???? They didn't know. They apparently had to talk to their upper manager and they would get back to me. Uh-huh. As expected, they did nothing. Nothing. No money back. NO working AC. Maybe they're all sitting in their trucks playing video games, too. I don't know. On the plus side, it's not scorching hot anymore, so i can just open windows now. Stay away, especially if you're uncomfortable with confronting people. I'm not going to name the technician by name... but personally, I'd stay away from any company that allows this kind of practice. Next time, I'll go to a company which is more reputable than these awful people. Updated review: in response to company's reply. Although i appreciate the effort in responding to this, i cannot help but remind you that 1. Nothing was accomplished. The AC still does not work. 2. If your technician did not have the technical capability to handle the issue in a reasonable time, perhaps not accepting the job would have been a more honest approach? Or, maybe letting me know - maybe an hour into the process, maybe 2, maybe 4? 3. Charging $100-$200/ hour for 10 hours to sit on hold to seek help is not an acceptable solution no matter what the circumstance. Especially without warning. 4. After I complained, your secretary/receptionist repeatedly assured us you would "make things right" as soon as she talked to you. Other than this solitary response on a public forum, I have heard nothing. Neither to address the problem nor to help in any other way. This is after 1.5 MONTHS waiting for a response. In the end, I evaluate interactions simply. I paid $1500. I got nothing. Seems like you got the better end of that deal. Congrats. read more

I easily scheduled via phone with a friendly woman who provided me with detail when I asked what they would be checking (my ensuring it would be comprehensive). Their app alerted me when the tech (Jason, the owner) was on his way. Jason was on time, fully masked, professional and friendly. Most important, you can see he is both skilled and honest and he took his time to do a full check of both items. He then walked me through any recommended self maintenance and paid maintenance items. This is the type of service call you hope for as a homeowner, where you are dealing with someone who is honest and knowledgeable, and when there is identified work to be done, that it is actual work that needs to be done and the service provider discusses what makes sense for a homeowner to do vs. a professional doing. Wow, just noticed that my review didn't post before. We used ACS for installing a dual head mini split cool/heat system in our home. The crew was great and they did a very professional job, cleaned up, and didn't try to upsell us, they got us the system we needed. There was an issue with some condensation leaking out but they found that during their system test and fixed it before leaving. Replacing our 10-year old AC unit and our 30-year old furnace because it was having issues with the burners and was leaking carbon monoxide not to mention the constant condensation nearly flooding our garage during heating cycles due to being a 90+ system so we happened to find Jason's company on Craigslist and set up to try and get an estimate on purchasing and installing a new system. He was super responsive and scheduled an appointment with us as soon as our schedules allowed. Matched a competing quote from another business and was super flexible with scheduling. Sometime ago I am in a Home Depot parking trying to load way too much material into my soccer mom SUV. A ACS truck rolled up and offered to help, even offered to load it up in his truck and take it home for me. I didn't take him up on his offer though he did help me load a few items. I considered it a testament to the quality of individuals that ACS hires. A few months later the heater in my condo stops working; ACS was my first and only call. Jason came out and looked at the equipment and determined that the necessary repairs could not be completed on that visit. Jason took the time to explain to me exactly what the issues were, what needed to be done to return the equipment to service and why they could not be completed that day.
