It's been too long without writing a review of Carter Heat & Air. My fault! We always hope for the best when calling for service on systems in your house. But it's really rare (in my experience) when a service company not only exceeds every expectation but continues to year after year. Krystal is incredible and her attention to follow up and personal communication is the best I've experienced. My system is not new but we did have a new Ecobee thermostat installed a few years back. Huge fan of this company and I'd recommend to anyone! They installed it easily and works (worked haha) perfectly until we had an accident in the attic (by no fault of theirs) that damaged the wire leading to the thermostat. Billy shot right over and diagnosed the issue due to his electrical smarts (and that he can fit up in my attic the size of a mouse trap). Sorry Billy. With old houses and older units, like ours, sometimes rewiring can be really difficult and many times not the best solution. Which was the case in our situation. Instead, the best fix for the wiring issue, was no wiring at all. Thank you technology! Billy suggested installing a wireless remote transmitter on the furnace that could talk to my favorite Ecobee thermostat. Simple solution to an old house problem. The system is up working properly now and it was all done quickly and with no stress. How many times can you say that with a non functioning system in an old house! From the techs and their attention to detail and Krystal and her epic work and customer support, they have my business for life. I prefer to do business with small business because the bigger companies always pass on overhead to the consumer. His install team were professional. The install took longer than expected due to attic space issues but he didn't come back and try to up the price. Communication was great. If I could give a ZERO, I would. We scheduled an appointment to get a quote on installation of central AC at a home we are purchasing in La Mesa. I explained we had a limited time window where we had access to the home during our home inspection. Crystal confirmed this window assuring me Chad would be early as he was doing another quote just around the corner. We'll, he never showed during that window and an hour later, I called Crystal and got a song and dance that he was delayed with an elderly client who needed more time. I explained the sellers were waiting in the driveway to get back in their home. She promised to contact Chad and give me an update on his ETA. That's about the time they stopped answering their office and mobile phones and responding to text messages both from my number and my realtor's. If you want to be completely underwhelmed by people who over promise, under deliver and are just plain inconsiderate, definitely give Crystal or Chad a call. The team did a great job with our mini-split install! They were responsive on the phone, showed up when they said they would, and completed the installation successfully. It was not easy to run the tubing through our tight crawl space, but they pulled it off! It's been a couple months, and the air conditioner is working great. I would recommend this team for your HVAC install. The only reasons this wasn't a 5-star review: 1. During the installation, the crew accidentally damaged our interior floorboard. When we pointed it out, they were able to hook us up with (and pay for) a contractor to repair the damage. 2. The initial proposal was glossy, but the pricing was not competitive (higher than the other 2 bids for same or similar equipment). Carter matched the price (and longer warranty period), which is awesome. However, it means the initial proposal wasn't intended to be best & final. read more

My review is about their diagnosing of my Amana HVAC system. They are listed as an authorized dealer for installation and repair of Amana HVAC systems on Amana's website. They came out on time and spent two separate days diagnosing why my Amana HVAC was not blowing cold. I was provided two estimates. One for replacing a compressor $3500.00 and one for replacing the whole condenser $6300 as my options to fix my problem. The reason for 1 star is I decided to get a second opinion from another company. This other company came out on a Saturday and had my system up and running in 3 hours. Turned out the system had slightly low refrigerant, a couple of blown fuses and the wiring was not connected correctly. My system has been up and running now for 2 weeks and it only cost me $450 to repair. With this said my review is solely based on the mis diagnosis and not installations of an Amana HVAC system. I would not recommend this company for diagnosing your system. read more
