Like every chain, ACS is only as good as its weakest link. When they were wooing me to become a customer, honestly, the sales guy practically stalked me. He was in front of my house when I arrived home from work at least three days a week, sweet-talking me about how great ACS would be for me and my family. Finally, I decided to go ahead and make the switch from another company. ACS used all of the old company's ancient technology and timeworn wiring, so it didn't cost them a dime to "install" the system. The number of service calls has been astonishing, but probably shouldn't be a surprise, given how old the equipment is. Some of the techs have been great - like Steve - but a few have been a nightmare - like the one who said that his computer showed that the problem had self-corrected, so there was no need to replace the sensor. Away he went, and within 48 hours, the alarm was shreiking - sometimes in the middle of the night - as if there had been a break-in. They just didn't want to change the sensor covered under the warranty. The straw that broke this camel's back was when we replaced some French doors a few weeks ago, and the installers removed the sensors. They wouldn't restore them, because they saw it as a liability if they restored them in any way that malfunctioned. I called ACS to have the sensors restored, and was quoted $1189 - that's if the job was done within one hour of their arrival. I'm done with them. I just phoned to ask how the system was working, and they told me they've NOT HAD A SIGNAL from my home since 01/23. It's now 02/08. Did anyone wonder why they had no signal? Did anyone think to phone me to see if we are all okay here? I just spoke with someone, who offered to "test the system." Ummm...no. I didn't give ACS a score of "1 star" ONLY because of "Steve," the technician who always showed up on time, was immaculately groomed, pleasant, polite, friendly without being obsequious, SMART, competent, etc. He's a role model for others. We did a walkthrough around my home and pointed out the points that are vulnerable in my home, I am happy he pointed these things out because I thought my whole home was secure but I guess not. We moved in to our new house a few months ago and felt very safe. It had an alarm system already wired in, but we only knew how to use it when we were away. Then, one night while we were sleeping, we had an attempted break in. This guy jumped our fence and tried to get in through the windows and the front door. After discovering the incident the next morning, we were determined to find and set up the best security system out there. We contacted ACS and Hank was there a few days later to do our assessment. We are current customers. Unfortunately. The issue comes down to a lack of honesty on the part of ACS. We have fulfilled our year contract (which is what we were told when we signed up) and now we are being directed to the fine print in the contract which states a 3 year contract. 3 years!!! Others on Yelp have commented on this, I tend to agree that this is their way of dealing with locking people in while providing poor service. Any company that uses fine print with an unhappy customer is not a company that I want to work with. Now to the reason that we called to cancel. Part of the ACS service is the patrol that they send around to keep an eye on the neighborhood. This is why we switched from ADT. At the time we signed up ACS was making a sales push in our neighborhood and we saw the patrol once or twice per day. Over the last year I have seen them patrol once. Once in a year! And I am outside a lot... working in the yard, walking the dog, playing with my kids. Not only have they lied about their service, they tell you one thing and put opposing words in their contracts. I called ACS SECURITY and within minutes they were at my home, called the police and stayed on the line with me. By the time the police arrived, ACS SECURITY had 5 armed patrol officers at my home. First off, I'm not a customer of this company, I am just a person who lives in society. I came across one of these employees of this company who was by far one of the rudest human beings I have ever encountered. I walk into a 711 on ventura blvd right off the 405 with my girlfriend and this guy in an acs security uniform started heckling me at the counter and making sexual noises and gestures to my girlfriend. Now I have a calm temper. But in the world of today I kept my composure and remained calm before I beat the living crap out of this guy. I would never hire such people with disrespectful manners as this. He needs to learn some self respect. The guys disscription is dark male about 6 ft tall with dreaded hair. Totally unprofessional. They do a really poor job of patrol service. A goal with this company is sign up as many people as they can lock them into a long multi year contract but tell them they can cancel whenever they want and then collect the money and disappear. One of the best advertising tools a company like this house is it's yard signs. Don't really believe that every house you see displaying their signs is actually still a customer. Recently I shopped around for commercial private security systems for my nursing home. I called many places and very few could do it I asked however ACS was one who said sure we can do it. I made an appointment and a woman came out to my business and told me how much it would cost. She did not do a walk-through she did not ask very many questions. She offered me a " end of the day price" at the end of our 5 minute visit. Puzzled I asked her what is the 'end of the day' price mean? She replied oh she had been had a busy day and this is one of her last appointment so she'll give me a good price because she wants to end the day well. Well, if she got me to pay $450 a month, her day would've ended well because that was not an excellent price for my business security system but it would be an excellent profit for them in my opinion. Curious, I asked what would the normal price be and she said no no I'll just give you that price. When I said thank you and I'll let you know she said what is holding you back from doing this today and I told her I was looking at other quotes. She graciously offered to honor that price until the end of the month, about l a week and a half. The truth is I was very turned off by her style and approach of pressuring me to sign up with them in the way. I I feel like security services are selling a service not really a product, and their service is building trust and confidence and security. This representative did the opposite, I felt like she was a little shady and it did not create a sense of confidence in the services that she was trying to sell me. Overall I chose a competitor company ADT, which was less than 25% of what quoted ACS quotes me, even with my reps end of the day rate special. All aspects of the interaction with them and installation of the system went smoothly and quickly. I'm quite happy with my new service. Perhaps if I were a straight male, this beautiful Rep may have got me to pay a higher price but I guess they tried to use the wrong tactic on me. Their service person who arrived 15 minutes before our appointment time today to fix a sensor issue actually let people in my home and turned off the alarm for them. WHAT you may say? ACS is probably one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. My assessment is based on honesty and quality of service. Where can I start? Perhaps I can start with the lies we were told about what the costs would be. They start at $40/month but don't tell you that those are temporary prices. Let's move on from that. How about the false alarm at my home and when the guard showed up and saw my 70 year old mother and started threatening her. How about the lies we were told about reprimanding the gaurd that did this? How about the courtesy credits we were promised that we never received as a result of this? How about finding out our service was cancelled mysteriously because we complained too loud- this seems so retaliatory. The list goes on. I have hear stories about this company but now I know reality is much worse that what I've heard. The guards themselves are some of the most unproffesional people i have ever met, they sit in their cars and eat and even when you approach them they continue eating and try to speak to you-even if it's a serious matter. I wish I could give ZERO stars. This company is WORTHLESS!!!! A car drove by my house as two thugs were on my stairs and another at my front door! A while later, the thugs broke through my back door, set off the alarm, and burglarized the house. In and out in 3 minutes with a lot of jewelry. NO ACS car showed up!!!!!! Instead, the dispatcher called my husband's call and said, "there's an alarm going off at your house"....DUH send a car!! We got home before the crack ACS car even got there.... bye bye. I feel like suing for breach of contract. I am so angry. Anyone who has ACS should be aware that they are already being sued....I think they are complicit in burglaries. read more

If you're considering a plan with ACS, here's what you need to know: 1) If you are part of a "sign-up drive" in your neighborhood, you will see patrol cars day and night. This is obviously a way of showing strength on your street. From experience however, the patrols end when the membership drive ends. I certainly can't attest to witnessing every patrol, but since I work from home, I notice just about every car that drives down our block. In my personal experience, I witnessed patrols at least 3x/day during the sign up drive (approximately 1 month), to seeing the patrols decline to 1x/week after. 7 years later, I barely see 1 patrol car/month. 2) Read the contracts carefully! The initial contract term is 5 years. This locks you in to 5 years of payments even if you decide to cancel. ACS outsources all payment processing and collection to a third party, "The Alarm Center." A simple Google search will show many heartbroken customers who were forced to pay thousands of dollars to end their contract before the 5 year term. ACS defers all questions to The Alarm Center and you hae zero recourse as they strictly enforce the contract and payment terms. Read all the Yelp reviews carefully and you'll see a similar pattern If ACS sales rep. made any promises regarding the installation, pricing, or anything else - make sure it's in the contract!! (read what happened to other reviewers who were given verbal promises not documented in the contract) Negotiate! Especially if you have an existing alarm company. Refuse to sign unless they stipulate a shorter-term ( 1 year if you have an existing alarm, 2 years if they are giving you a system for free) AND make sure to change the contract terms by crossing out the 5 year term. Change the auto-renewal term as well. The existing contract compels you to multi-year automatic renewals. Make sure the renewals are changed to 1 year terms. There's no reason you should be forced to renew for multiple years except for them to gouge you for cancellation fees. 3) Monthly price is totally negotiable. I've compared prices with neighbors. Monthly fees range from $50/month to well over $100/month for the same service level and features. Unfortunately, it's the elderly who told me they were paying the highest monthly fees. 4) Their service is professional and helpful. If your system develops a problem, they take care of it quickly, but you will pay for it. Make sure they give you the master programming code and technical manual so you can take care of small changes yourself (changing/adding passcodes, etc). Changing the battery is easy - you can buy them online and swap them out in 5 minutes or less. 5) I agree with the other reviewers (homeowner execs) that the level of ACS' professionalism was much higher - but that was in 2011 when they wrote the reviews. Companies change. Keep in mind ACS targets Homeowners Associations as part of their recruitment efforts. It's in the best interest of homeowner associations - and their executives - to promote ACS to their members. Alarm companies offer additional security perks to association leaders (free systems, lower subscription prices, etc) in exchange for getting their members to sign up. It's highly probable they have an extra incentive to recommend ACS to you. 6) If you only need alarm monitoring, cheaper services exist. If you want "armed response" in the west LA area, ACS is a reasonable choice if you follow the guidance above. Your best time to ensure you get a reasonable deal, is BEFORE you sign the contract. Do Not sign up for this service. I have had ACS for 2 years. I have tripped the alarm accidentally a few times and they either don't call you at all or call you more than 20 minutes later. By then, the robbers will be gone. I even called them back and said, " why didn't you call me?". They give some lame excuse like, " our system does not show your alarm ever went off." Recently, I was on vacation in Mexico and my alarm went off. All my neighbors started calling my cell phone to tell me my alarm was blaring. I felt helpless because I could not check the house. There was a neighborhood party of all my neighbors in front of my house in their pajamas trying to catch a burglar at 10pm. My next door neighbor said ACS showed up 40 minutes later. I pay them $100/ month and extra for "armed patrol". I feel like ACS is robbing me more than any potential burglars. I called to complain about their delayed response and tried to cancel service. They were rude, never apologized, and said we could not cancel because we were in a 3-year contract. I was told the manager would call me back but he never did. When we first signed up, we would see their cars drive by our house 2-3 times a day... Now we are lucky if they come by once a week. Sometimes I see their patrol car parked next to the golf course and the guard is just sleeping in his car! Outrageous! read more

ACS finally came by my home on the 21st to discuss the car break in, and I was questioned why I even called them since they don't file a report. I replied that I thought it was important information for them to know in regards to break ins in the area...and that common RING footage may be helpful (at least three car break ins happened that night). I am President of a very large homeowners association that has used ACS services for patrol and alarm monitoring for the last 5 years. I can't say enough about how amazing they have been to work with. None of these alarm service and monitoring companies are perfect but the level of detail they go to in resolving issues quickly and efficiently far surpasses any of their competitors. We were with one of the big competitors before and all of our complaints fell on deaf ears. We now get great resolution, quality officers, and excellent service.
