Tires are expensive no matter where you go. So if I'm going to pay a ton of money, I'd rather patronize a business like this where the service was no-nonsense, straight up , and efficient. Some older guy tried to hit on me though, but at least he made himself useful and helped me decide on which brand of tires to buy. I didn't make an appointment (no appointment needed actually) and went there about 2 hrs to closing time. I had to wait for about 2 hours for the work to be done on but once it was done, I had new tires and my car was driving perfectly! Walked in around 9ish with one person ahead of me. The lady finished helping the guy ahead of me and turned around and started telling another worker a story about some guy they both knew?!?!? I waited at the counter for 3 minutes (felt like hours) without anyone acknowledging me or asking me if I needed help. The two people that were behind the counter were less than 2 feet away from where I was standing. There were four people working there and I was the only customer. I left. I checked yelp for a good place to buy tires in my new neighborhood/surroundings... a few shops came up but quite a lot of them didn't have Saturday hours. Decided to give Action Al's a shot after noting their great reviews. a) No appointment needed. Called... told them the make/model of my car and what tires I currently have. He made a recommendation and told me the price. 2) Easy to find. iii) Went in and surprisingly he had written down my name and the estimate he gave me. No need to re-negotiate or explain who I was and what I was coming for. four) In and out in about 45 mins. cinco) I got 4 new tires (mind you I need V-rated tires that don't come cheaper than $160 each at Mr. Tire) by the same folks who manufacture the Falken tire for $424... that's right $106 each. Can't beat it. I did see a slight 'verbal discussion' w/ another customer in which Dave (the great Al's son) got a little rowdy... but these guys are mechanics...and I don't know the circumstances under which that 'discussion' came to be. He saved himself for me when right after that customer left a lady came in and said her dealership was trying to sell her new hupcaps for $100/each. She'd looked online and only been able to find them for as cheap as $80/each but that was still too much b/c she lost them often. He gave her the phone, dialed a number... and said 'ask for Cesar, tell him what you're looking for'... sounded like some type of tire mob... but at the end of it... she paid $35 for 4 hubcaps. He's just looking to help people while giving em a great deal. And I'm alllll about it... read more

Recommend this place with reservations. Wanted to give five stars because the service was quick and price was good, but the lack of adherence to true covid protocols was a big issue. Gary is great but the gentleman inside threw me all the way off today not wearing a mask and insisting on having a conversation like it was fine. He had no idea if I had a pre existing condition or not and was dismissive when I asked him to put on a mask. A plastic barricade that covers 1/2 of the desk is not sufficient protection. I just hope no one there contracts covid because clearly they think they're invincible. read more

I blew a tire and ask a friend to look up places for me. The lady my friend spoke to on the phone was very polite on the phone, and even without knowing the tire size was able to give a reasonable estimate, as opposed to the people at Mac's Tires. My friend reported the man who answered the phone from Mac's as rude and terse. Anyway, when I got to Action Al's, every single employee, even the customers were very nice and friendly and I was in and out in less than a half hour for less than the reasonable price quoted on the phone. They whizzed the other customers in front of me out very quickly as well! I'm a fan. I got a flat so I came by to get it repaired. There was a line even though the place had not even opened yet. They attempted to fix it but couldn't, which I sort of knew it wasn't going to be repairable. They were able to get me a used tire for an extremely good price. Out the door quickly. My TPMS light was still on. I thought maybe it would reset after driving. The next day it was still on. I took it back, and we determined the sensor was dead. I don't think they messed iy up. I think it may have gottten damaged from the flat. I just wish we had picked up on it during the first visit. Nonetheless, they were able to replace it. They didnt have the band wheel mounted sensor, but offered to do a stem valve sensor for an exceptional price. They did it, out the door quick again, great driving ever since. I will probably take my other car here to get new snow tires for winter. read more

They were great over the phone and in-person when I went to get the car serviced. The place is a family business, and you can tell. Action Al's treated me great and gave me a competitive price when I was recently in a pinch to get a tire replaced. My boyfriend has been going to this place on and off for years and has made it his go-to place after much previous research to find a reliable, reasonably priced tire place. So when I recently got a flat tire, he immediately suggested that I go to Action Al's. One of the great things about this place is that the price they give you over the phone is the price that you will pay, period. They don't try to lure you in with a low-ball price and then start adding on additional fees once you get there. They also don't charge extra for some of the things that other places charge separately for, e.g., stems, balancing, etc. The price they gave me on the phone was the price I paid to have it installed -- no hidden fees. (I paid $80 to have a new Goodyear tire installed on my domestic compact car.) In addition, because I had driven on my flat tire in an effort to make it home, I had put a pretty serious looking dent in the wheel. I thought I was going to be out of luck and would have to go buy a new wheel somewhere else. (They don't have wheels in stock at Action Al's.) But Nick hooked me up. He took my bent wheel and banged it back into shape so that the new tire could be installed. And I wasn't charged anything for his efforts. Some other tire shop probably wouldn't have even bothered trying and would've sent me on my way, or would've charged extra. Finally, my spare tire was also completely flat and in a very sad state by the time I arrived here, and Nick fixed my spare for me too. This place is clearly geared towards solid customer service. We called ahead for the price but brought the car in without an appointment, and we were in and out in about an hour on a Friday afternoon. (One thing that I should note is that they don't have a waiting room -- this is simply a working garage with a front desk area for paying the bill. On a nice day, it's not a big deal because you can wait outside, but it might make a difference for some folks.) On top of it all, the guys there are very nice, especially the owner (at least I think he's the owner -- David), with whom my boyfriend had an extensive conversation about the relative merits of the Orioles and the Nationals while we were paying the bill. (I felt a little bad, though, for the callers who were on hold while they were having their friendly chat.) The shop also has a really entertaining wall of photos to check out while you wait. Overall, this is the kind of friendly, reasonably priced, down to earth and customer service-oriented place that reminds me of home. I'm really happy to have found such a place in DC and will definitely recommend it to anyone in need of new tires. read more

This guy is a jerk. I call for prices, tell him make and year of the car. Says he can't find it then insists on telling me I told him the wrong year, like I didn't know what I just said. Then he leaves me on hold while he seems to be having conversations with everybody in the shop - one was about how he couldn't store two tires for some customer for a few days. When he finally comes back after 15 minutes I tell him I have to go. He still does not have a price. Total waste of time. read more

Best. Tire Guys. Ever. I wish there was an infinity stars option. I had 3 nails in one of my my already near-bald tires about 8 months ago so I went to Bridgestone in Wheaton, MD to get a quote for 4 new tires. After hearing they would charge me not only my dignity but also an entire paycheck, I fled the scene crying like an infant. My boyfriend asked around at his work for a good tire place, and Action Al's was the word. We drove out the next day and found a hovel of a tire shop with no actual mechanics garage, but rather a back alley with 5 guys lined up efficiently working on 5 different cars, with 10 waiting down the alley. We got in line, were outa there in 2 hours, and out $370 bucks FOR FOUR BRAND NEW, 60,000 MILE TIRES. FOUR TIRES FOR $370! I hugged Al. Well, not Al, it was his son actually. Al is long gone, but his 3 kids run the place now. It's busy as hell, the phone rings off the hook, but they call you honey, are friendly when they have time to be, and most importantly don't jerk you around. I asked how his prices could be so low and he said because he has people who have literally been coming to Al's for 40 years, and in the long run good relationships make for better business. When he finally got to me he argued with me what type of tires I needed even though it was written on my car door. Regardless of all this I still bought four tires just to be told at my next oil change at the dealership that the tires were falling apart and needed to be replaced! Best tire shop around. I highly recommend. Went in on Saturday with a phantom leak in one of my tires. They couldn't find any obvious issue, but did what they could to fix it. The staff are very good at what they do and was out of there in no time. Took it back in today because I was still losing air. They spent some more time with it and found the tiny pin hole causing the problem. A quick patch and I was off and rolling again. Glad to have found this place. read more
