We had some poor experiences with other vendors and equipment sometimes before, resulting in embarrassing situations in front of large audiences and VIPs when things didn't work, or there was loud feedback. I called an hour before closing time Saturday. Needed lighting for a party. Jake the manager was manning the shop and in 15 minutes pulled out a selection of lights, a couple stands and a pile of cords for a complete kit. He even offered to let me dig though a bin of leftover gels. He gave me a great price and got me out the door in record time. I am super-pleased with how helpful he was. Don't rent from these guys. The staff a very rude and not very knowledgable. I was trying to rent a mic (as a return customer) and after 4 phone calls told me they couldn't do it. Very unprofessional. The 2 guys I dealt with, each a bigger jerk than the other were Jake and I wish I could remember the other. They seemed irritated to be bothered with having to talk to me or answer questions concerning availability of the mic. I called back after not getting a return call as promised. I was just making sure I had time to get it elsewhere if they couldn't get it to me. He rudely said to me it would be no problem, but it was, hey,if you don't want my business I will gladly take it elsewhere! Everyone in this place got bad attitude. It is extremely disorganized. They have a lot of customers, and they don't really give you any personal attention. On top of that they have charged me extra money for a lighting equipment that according to them got broken during my renting time. I have been doing this job for over 30 years, and I have never broke anything. The wire for the equipment was obviously broken, and they charged me for the entire item without hesitation. I feel like a fool. This place is terrible I will not recommend it to anyone. The prices are very also very high. read more

I needed last minute AV help for my party. Skip and the team at AA&V got me the rentals I needed lickety split at a SUPER fair price and threw in a few extras. When I picked up the equipment, they showed me how to use everything, double checked all of chords and plugs, and sent me on my way with a friendly smile. So many AV companies are used to dealing only with huge orders and have high minimums for rentals -- at AA&V there's no minimum, which makes it perfect for party rentals. I have no doubt that if I wanted to film a movie and rent all of my lights, cameras, and mics from them my experience would have been just as easy breezy. Super great value, great folks, great service. I plugged in everything when I got home (super easy thanks to my tutorial) and my backyard is now ready to party. My friend and I decided to make a full on video production for a camp retreat that was a week away, and us being the poor as people we were, didn't have enough money to buy the equipment, so we decided to try to rent equipment. Found Action Audio & Visual on google and called them. I told them we needed cheap cheap cheap, but good stuff. I got this great deal that was like $250 for Panasonic Camera and other attachments. Awesome to deal with! I had a very simple need for a shoot. I needed a high end wireless lav mic for a performance, and I didn't want to drive to Hollywood if it could be avoided. I contacted Action Audio and Visual, through their website. A brief online conversation with Sam, lead me in the right direction of my needs. The entire transaction to reserve the equipment was done online. Again, fast and easy. Upon pickup, I met Jacob. he went through all the cords, and pieces to make sure everything was there. Friendly service the whole time. I dropped off the rental today. Sam was great, checked me in and thanked me for my business. Nothing but a positive experience. It was only a $50 lav mic, but they were friendly, my order was ready upon pick-up and, and the pick up and drop off was nothing short of exceptional. For example, Sam really spent time with me to make sure my DJ controller worked with the speaker package I rented, and made sure that I had all the proper wiring and that I knew exactly how to hook everything up on my own. I have rented from Action A&V on two occasions and on the aspect of going in and getting help with what I needed both times the service was a great experience. The first was in May 2014 and I rented two speakers for a parade in Long Beach After using them we found out that they were not loud enough on the parade route. Two weeks ago we needed speakers again for another parade here in Los Angeles, so this time we were advised to rent three speakers... I'm not sure why but two speakers worked and the other kept shorting out and never truly worked or achieved the goal of more volume.... Here is why they only get three stars instead of five, here they are: Problem not resolved after taking and paying for an additional speaker...we still couldn't hear the music as we went down the parade. I did tell them when I returned the speakers and was just told "Sorry, not sure why that happened" I also referred another group in the parade to this company and didn't get any type of discount or credit to a returning customer and/or a referral of business. read more

Rented a sound system. The Speakers Qsc K12 where brand new and sounded great!! The mixer was a Mackie and the Microphone was a Shure 58. The micro Galaxian laser system was awesome and LED lights were great too!! My rental agent Aimee was very helpful and kept me up to date with my order. My calls were answered in a fast pace. When I came in to the shop Alex helped me and made sure my order was correct. When I returned the items Julian helped and double checked that all the items were there and that I didn't damaged anything. read more

Equipment did not work properly. Customer service is mediocre, they work a bit slow for having 5 people in the back, and order was screwed up from the get go. I would not go here, plenty of other places to rent from. I was expecting some kind of a refund or break on the bill for having rented useless equipment but that did not happen. I've rented from Action A&V twice and both times had a great experience. The first was in October 2012 and the second in February 2014. I had to change my order about 12 times and they never seemed annoyed (even when I was annoyed at myself!). The equipment was fine as was delivery and pick-up. There are two things that dropped them to four stars instead of five, here they are: 1 - I am an event producer and very clearly not an A/V expert. I rented two mic stands for a Saturday event (the venue had microphones but no stands). I wish they would have told this A/V rookie ahead of time that mic stands do not come with the clips for the microphones. My performer had to go acoustic with both guitar and voice since the stands weren't usable. 2 - They kind of guilted me into not paying extra for an equipment pick-up on Saturday after the event (they close at 2pm on Saturdays and I wasn't ready for a pick-up till 6pm). Instead, I had to drag all this equipment home, unload it into my house, and then store it till Monday. Granted, they were flexible with Monday's pick-up, but the hassle between Saturday night and Monday midday was really annoying. Aside from those minor details, my experience with them lovely. Just be thorough and if you want a specific delivery or return time and are willing to pay for it, just do it. read more

Extremely helpful, the guys I dealt with were wonderful. They have better pricing than Samy's Camera. I had to transfer some important footage from HD mini dv shot on a Sony and not many people in the industry knew what settings to use to transfer it at all, from AFI techs to almost everyone I went to in Hollywood. The footage wasn't playing back. So, when it finally played back at the rental place, they still warned me about the problems with the particular camera that I was renting to transfer the footage. I was sure that I knew what I was doing because the footage finally played back, but when it still didn't work, they connected me with one of their sister rental places who had the exact deck that I needed. Sadly, we used this company for a large order of earwigs that were promised to perform at a capacity way beyond their actual capability. On three separate occasions, our Production Designer and Art Director were promised that the earwigs would transmit at 1000 YARDS, when in fact, they didn't transmit much past 300 FEET. They made us pay upfront, assuring us the devices would work, then used the 6500 dollars to purchase new inventory. We took the earwigs to location and tested them, discovered we had been lied to, returned them first thing Monday morning, and were denied any refund. We are now in process of taking them to small claims court. This company is the definition of unscrupulous. They are liars and thieves. Beware if you chose to do business with them. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I contracted Action so we could project a brief video intro for a banquet of 800 people. I hired a tech to set up the equipment so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Or at least that was the plan. Not only could they not get the equipment they brought to work, I had to run back and forth to try to troubleshoot and eventually I had to figure out how to run the video through the TVs at the restaurant just before we started. Not only did they not deliver, they also did not offer to discount or reimburse me for any of the equipment that was not used. Stay away! read more

On one occasion, she even came to my house to drop off equipment. It was at that point where I became a loyal customer. Even though they moved to Burbank, it's worth the long drive. Now I deal with two guys, Jake and Andrew, and their level of service has not changed. They are always prompt, call me back with updates on my order, and always pull through. Best of all, there are HIGHLY knowledgeable in all the equipment they rent out, and that goes a long way when you work in production.
