My basement before they started their job.
    Will V.

Update based on the contractor's ethically challenged response to my review: Pay attention to how they respond to negative reviews. Notice a theme? Most of it does not merit a response, but I will say the following-- Just look at the before picture and the after pictures I posted. My entire house, including the basement, had been fully renovated before they got to it. The basement was in poor condition *after* their work--not before. I would be shocked if their latest review was a real customer. Also, they were under a Yelp guarantee at the time. The Yelp Guarantee coverage gave me the maximum refund allowed. Do you really want to risk any part of your home looking like the after pictures? Would you want them returning to your home to "trouble-shoot," especially after several visit that left your basement looking worse each time? Save yourself the trouble.

Streaks and spill from mix used by company left on floor and walls of basement

(2/2) full. Ironically, I was told that Rich was in the hospital and could not be available to discuss installing a new damper plate, what I wanted all along. Julie (wife who handles finances) also said that the work truck had broke down, which has my property in it. I was told to wait until he is healthy to address the situation. Instead, Craig came out (Tuesday) to do the sealing that was previously missed. I had to again, double check their work in order to have everything in the contract addressed. I am traumatized from the soot throughout my entire basement so I preemptively covered all of my belongings with furniture blankets in advance. I point out the mess left in the utility closet and he says he has no equipment to clean and offers to use our household products. After this, my partner decided to call in another company for a second opinion (same day, Tuesday) in order to identify these issues and inform us of the problems. They stated that they never saw anything like it in all of their years of the profession. The repointing of the firebox still showed obvious gaps and cracks which had not been addressed. There is no way they are CSIA certified. This was the final straw, we had a vacation already planned months in advance and could not give this company the time on their schedule let alone trust them. I demanded my money back from Julie but was met with friction. She said she had no problem returning the money and want to keep her clients happy, wrong. She said that she had the money held in the account but then switched and said it was spent on materials. This exchange went on for hours all the while, my partner and I have full time jobs to complete. We cannot take off work repeatedly to accommodate this company's "fixes" in order to hold our funds. Repeatedly I had to ask over and over for a refund of my money until the job was complete to my standard. I got excuse after excuse and there was zero good explanation for why my funds were not returned in the interim. I was told to wait until the job was done, even though I had already paid in full. It took hours of back and forth to only receive $1,000 back and being told to keep $500 to mitigate the situation. That is not good enough. We had to further wait until they were ready to return our calls to have them address the issues at hand and did not pay the remaining funds. They refused to provide a typed contract and used the "additional work" as justification for not upholding their end of the deal of the contract and not taking responsibility for the mess created. We contacted Yelp and are in the process of receiving up to $2,500 back and may be pending a case in small claims court if unsatisfied. **These opinions are mine and mine only, I do not represent any organization** Being an active duty service member and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, I am about as honest as they come. My values involve that of honor, not lying, not stealing, not cheating. Action Chimney and Home Improvement LLC failed to uphold any of that. They lied to me repeatedly about the work completed and being able to receive a refund, they stole my personal property and failed to return it when inquired despite their promises to, and they cheated by cutting corners and leaving me to fill in the missing pieces. It can happen to you. I've had to request time from my own job to triple check their work afterwards, not have it completed to standard in a timely manner, clean up after them, and did not receive all of my property back. This is ridiculous, there are so many red flags with this company. Do not invite these people into your home! Long story short, if you want a company to come in and do unprofessional work and have to find out for yourself, destroy your home and property, jeopardize your health, steal from you, hold your money hostage without return, and clean their mess afterwards, then they are the right people to call! Otherwise, don't be like me, do yourself a favor, do the due diligence, protect yourself, and look elsewhere.

Basement needed to be cleaned and covered to prevent any further damage from Action Chimney and Home Improvement LLC

(1/2) CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!! I called this company because my damper was no longer functioning and remained ajar. They were quick to respond and I desperately wanted the situation fixed. Richard "Rich" Reagan told me they were a licensed and insured company, had a fuss-free warranty policy, and handed me documentation stating such, so I trusted them. First mistake. Upon inspection, Rich pointed out additional issues with my home and said he could fix the additional issues at a small charge. Tacking on additional work to be done that I did not ask for was also noted by another customer review on Yelp. They provided a handwritten estimate and said the service would be done same-day. It came out to $3,600 which was much higher than average quotes for these "fixes" when you do a simple google search. I signed the contract just so that I can have the issue said and done that day. Mistake #2. When Rich and Craig did the work on my home the first day (Saturday), I was told they did not have all of the parts to complete the job and had to return the following day. I paid them via Zelle to avoid any additional fees and taxes from using a credit card or personal check. Mistake #3. Rich repeatedly complained that he is owed a lot of money from unpaid work and was going through hardship, I tried to do the right thing in good faith by agreeing to pay them in full. Mistake #4. During the job, I provided a brick sealer and brush to apply to the fireplace. Mistake #5. I never received any of my materials back despite promising to return it. Overall the work was of poor and unprofessional quality, they also left a mess in their tracks. Throughout my basement, grey material from the mix they used is seen on my floors and walls that were never previously present. There are pieces and ashes remaining in the fireplace. The utility closet with the furnace was a complete mess with HVAC tape, screws, and piles of debris. Rich said he was missing the correct parts to finish the job that day and he did not want to "rush" the work. This is understandable but I had other obligations and preparation for vacation the upcoming week, I could not afford to wait long for the work to be complete. Due to this, we agreed on half payment until complete. On the second day (Sunday), the sweep done on the chimney and fireplace coated my entire basement in soot. Apparently they do not have a reliable shop vac, it malfunctioned, leading to this accident. There was zero warning and there was no effort made to clean the basement. I had to bring my own air purifier and run it to try and eliminate the toxins. The material is very fine and easily goes airborne, getting into any crevice exposed to the air. This material was enough to set off my smoke alarm and cover all of my personal belongings in this powder. It is a known carcinogen which easily enters the respiratory system. The next three days I suffered from headaches and coughing up black and grey colored mucus. My partner and I spent hours and hours cleaning the mess. They did not take any responsibility for covering the basement in soot prior to the job, failed to provide the clean-up of debris outlined in the contract, and did not give any warning about the carcinogens they released into the home. The large air purifier (up to 1800sqft room), set to "automatic" was running at full speed for two days straight. The filters were clearly affected. My computer, located very close to the fireplace, was full of soot. After cleaning, it did not work when I attempted to power it on. Once it finally booted, it continues to repeatedly shuts down at random intervals. This PC cost me over $2,000 to build. After they finished for the day, I paid them in full as instructed. When I had the chance to inspect, I noticed the two-in-one damper and chimney cap was improperly installled. From the inside of the fireplace looking up, you could still clearly see light from the top of the chimney while the damper was in the closed position. I also noticed that my original chimney cap was missing, Rich already took it and put it in his vehicle. I had to ask for my own chimney cap back, in no way were they entitled to my property, again. This was theft. The furnace ductwork looked like an amateur completed it. They also completely forgot to complete a task listed on the contract, to insulate between the fireplace wall and the firebox. At this point, who knows what else I was lied to about. I demanded a typed, line item contract but did not receive this. To this day I am also still awaiting a new chimney/fireplace certificate of inspection and my property returned. My partner took off work to support me and we had to call them to come out for a third time after discovering the aforementioned issues myself. I am someone completely unfamiliar with fireplaces and chimneys since I come from south Florida and have only moved into this home less than a month ago. I demanded a partial refund since I had already paid them

They patiently answered all my questions, and was finally able to resolve and advise on several ongoing issues with my roof. Their pricing is very fair and they were ready to complete the work on time, as expected, especially on a short turnaround. I would highly recommend Reese to anyone who needs assistance with roofing issues.

Sorry for the late post. This work was done in 2024…read more Had a leak coming into the basement around the chimney area. Called Reese & Sons because of their high rating and positive reviews. Lucas answered while on an existing job. He was very honest saying he can't drop by to make an assessment. Knowing the importance of the situation, he said he'll have his father drop by to take a look. The father (was it Joe?) came by as promised and saw that the previous roofer didn't put flashing around a portion of the chimney. He gave a couple of possible fixes and I picked the more expensive one. He gave me a break on price if i went with the more expensive fix which i appreciated. Before showing up for the work due to budgeting issues i changed to the lower price solution. He didn't have any problems with this change. He and his other son (not Lucas) came on the day as promised. The funny thing was I didn't know they were there until i heard banging outside! They ripped some of the old roof tiles, installed new flashing and overlay them with some leftover tiles I had laying around. They also caulked around other parts of the chimney. They cleaned up their mess. There were aome storms afterwards and no leak! Thx to Lucas for knowing the importance of the problem and having your father and brother fit me into their schedule. And thx to father and son (was it Joe and Ezekiel?!) for fixing the leak! I would definitely consider them to put in a new roof when the time comes!
