Staff is nice and helpful, and their cars aren't too bad. However, the instructor they sent me was a different story...he was extremely distracting during driving, didn't teach me a whole lot even in 7 lessons with him (in fact, when I went to take the road test I felt completely lost and nervous as hell because I didn't know what I was doing, not good). He didn't go through parallel parking/broken U-turns until I had 2 lessons left. He was a very nice guy and always early for lessons, but not a good teacher at all. I wouldn't recommend this school to any anxious drivers. I did the 7 lesson pack hoping that it would be enough for the road test. My instructor (don't know his name - old Russian guy) was impatient and expected me to nail techniques the day I learned them. He seemed frustrated by my nervousness and his "critiques" came off very rude. If I was making too many mistakes for his liking, he'd ask if I had a short-term memory issue. It's not encouraging or helpful. I could only see him being a good instructor for someone who has access to outside driving practice (my family doesn't own a car, nor do my friends) or someone with experience driving in another country, but is trying to get an American license. It got the point where I was dreading my next lesson. I learned how to do 3-point turns and parallel park, but I don't feel confident doing either. I'm going to do additional lessons at another driving school instead. The 5-hour class was fine but the teacher rambled about personal anecdotes and non-driving related things quite a bit. This review is long overdue but it's better late than never and I want to tell everyone to AVOID THIS DRIVING SCHOOL. Although on their website it seems like they give you an excellent deal at a good price, it still isn't worth it. Let me tell ya why it isn't worth it: the employers are extremely unprofessional. My dad and I made an appointment to sit down and schedule when I wanted to practice. First off, when we were sitting down with what seemed to be their secretary (she was a heavy set woman), she was rude and was on her cell phone. And while she was filing my paperwork, my dad leaned over to see what she was doing and she rudely said, "sit down." Like lady my dad just wants to know what you're doing with all our IDs and everything. I was assigned an instructor with a full head of hair, thick mustache and heavy accent (I won't say his name). Let me say that there were more downs than ups. He was aggressive and scolded every mistake I made; a few times I came home crying and other times I did not want to continue my driving lessons with him. He made tasteless jokes about me ending up in the cemetery with my sucky driving. He spoke way too much and it was extremely distracting and sometimes I got too frustrated with him. Yet looking back I guess that's how my instructor was, and to be fair he was kind and compassionate half the time. But meh. You need to have a consistent driving instructor and he was not consistent with his moods. I had to reschedule a driving lesson and the same secretary said "we will contact you about reschedule". A week and a half with no call. I had to call again and ask. Seriously? After my 4/5th lesson (I signed up for 9), I took the 5 hour class. The reason why I'm mentioning this is because after signing my signature, the guy clearly said "We will call you to tell you when your road test is". They didn't call for 3weeks. When I got fed up with waiting, I called and asked when is my road test. It was THAT MONDAY. I was absolutely furious. I began to lose it and I demanded they move my test. I had to wait another fxckin month. But I passed my test. I guess that's all that matters. I will never recommend autocraft to anyone. read more

I took my 5-hour course here. With the Groupon and a coupon code it was insanely cheap, like $10-15 bucks. It wasn't a terrible experience. They told me the course started at 3:30pm but it didn't actually start until 4pm - I found that pretty annoying as I had to sit around for over 30 mins. The instructor tried his best to keep everyone engaged and entertained, but it was clear that he didn't have 5hrs worth of material prepared so he told a lot of stories. A very fair amount of breaks were given too, which was nice. There's 1 really long break, so make sure you bring a book or something if you don't plan on going outside. No phones during the 'lessons' either-he's very strict about that and will call you out. Also, dress for comfort. The class takes places in their tiny office, and only accommodates approx 12 people. The chairs are packed in there and not terribly comfortable. But for such a low price you can't really beat it. read more

Autocraft had its share of (bad) moments, but the end result depends on who is teaching. Dino was a great instructor, he was very chill and laid-back. He'd just let you do your own thing which is very important when learning how to drive; you'll never learn how to drive if the instructor is grabbing the wheel all the damn time. Obviously if you f'ed up he would tell you what you did wrong, but he'd be cool about it. I called to find out about a certificate I had received & to see if there will be an extension to it due to COVID-19 and the receptionist was very rude. She kept cutting me off mid sentence, lied and said there wasn't an extension which in fact there is & was trying to say I'd have to pay more money than I originally paid for certificate again when it expires. I have been a student at this driving school for sometime and one day I am told over the phone that I have a new instructor and my old one had left. It seems like there is always a shortage of instructors here but this time around there is only ONE instructor. He is amazing but he is swamped with students and the school in the abundance of chaos forgot to book me for my road test. I showed up to the test site with my 5 hr certificate in hand and permit to be told I could not take my test that day. This could have all been avoided if the school had a proper number of instructors, cared more about their students, and showed up to their office. I arrived in person the day of my test an hour early at 11am and no one was present. That should have been my giveaway that there was something wrong. read more

I bought their 7 class package for my road test. I was assigned Paul as my instructor. He is a really good instructor. He's calm and collected and makes you feel confident at the wheel. Most importantly he doesn't just teach you to pass the test, he teaches you to drive! I have friends who passed the road test but still can't drive or are afraid to drive. Autocraft was the first school I chose because it was close to where I live....big mistake... I'll make this easy to understand -Nice secretary, very organized, they make sure to cover all the bases in terms of paperwork -the packages are not worth the money when the instructor likes to make pitstops -a lot of chit chat, no real instruction -waste of money, waste of money -when i felt like i was not ready, they said it was okay for me to go -sugar coats things and says mistakes are "little" or "okay" -did not even bother to follow up with test results the only good thing about this was that at the last failed road test, i noticed a ferrari driving school car. i decided to go with them and i got my license my first try. you can do the math. I had Leo as my instructor, and he helped me pass the test! He's a very good guy and you know he has a lot of experience on the road. As long as you listen to him everything will go smoothly. He has a Russian accent but that shouldn't intimidate you one bit! He is very helpful and doesn't sugarcoat anything, he will be blunt so that helps you be a better driver, at least in my opinion. My experience with this driving school was really good ! I took 4 lessons with Dino. He knows his stuff which is great . He was so patient with me and he had a couple of tricks up his sleeve for parallel parking which I always had diffuliculty in . I just took my road test today and passed cause of those lessons ! I was stuck at LGA trying to get off a flight I call them at 5pm telling them. I have a 6pm appt. but they haven't let us off the flight yet (traveled for work) the man is like SORRY you should had canceled. I try to tell him I swore i was going to make it I have been in the air and timed everything correctly It not my fault my flight has been on the tarmac for this long. can you please do something for me. he is like no my policy is more important you lose a class and was being a D**k. they need people skills and someone who speaks clearly on the phone. Leon was my driving instructor and he was truly the best! I was completely clueless when it came to driving and was terrified when I got behind the wheel. My experience with the school was very good. The staff was friendly and my instructor Edwin was great. He went through all the details required for clearing the driving test very patiently with me. He gave me great practice and good pointers for the road test. He was also very motivating and never got edgy or irritated even when I made mistakes. I'm glad I picked this school, everything worked out well, and I passed my road test the first time! I chose the 9-lesson package which included the 5-hour class and use of their car for the road test. It was money well spent! And that's all due to the instructor I had, whose name was Paul. I highly suggest you ask for Paul as your instructor!!! I had never driven before, and I'm over 50, so who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?? He walked me through every step with patience and helpfulness. I don't think I would have passed if I had any over instructor, I cannot say enough good things about him. A very personable guy! The only bad thing I have to say about the school was the car that was available, I'm 6'-2" and my legs were a little cramped with the gas/brake, even with the seat back and the steering wheel up, and when I called to ask about another car they said they only had the Toyota Corolla I was using. I was extremely displeased with my experience using Action (Autocraft) Driving School. I practiced with two different instructors during my 4-session package, and they were both unprofessional, impatient, and poor teachers. During one session, an instructor referenced a Russian joke about "girls' brains" and how women have trouble remembering things after I asked for clarification on a parallel parking technique, a skill I was just learning for the first time. Another class, an instructor engaged in an aggressive argument with a double parked car on Queens Boulevard, screaming and cursing for several minutes of my paid time. The secretary told me the wrong time for my scheduled road test, and I only discovered it when the DMV emailed me a reminder. The driving classes were confusing and uninformative - I walked out of each one feeling as if I hadn't learned anything constructive. The instructors were overly critical and gave very little positive feedback. I failed my first time taking the road test and essentially had to unlearn much of what was "taught" in order to pass on a subsequent attempt. Taking driving classes with Action Driving School was a massive waste of money; I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I have never drove in my life, no one in my family drives. My first lesson I told my instructor, Silivia, this and I don't know if it's a language barrier or what but she didn't care. She did not teach me to drive, basically I drove around practicing and driving the way I thought I should and if I was way off she would yell at me and ask if I had read the driver's manual?!?!? On my 6th lesson with her she asked if I signed up for the road test, I answered no. Her response, "Good, you need more lessons." No shit, I'm a new driver and had less than 6 hours on the road and we did even do anything parking related yet. I think the DMV suggest like 30hours on the road before you test.. I'll taking criticism, but please back it up with some lessons and teaching and patience!!!! If you are looking for a driving school to teach you to drive, this isn't the place. However if you already know how to drive and just want pointer, I guess this place will be just fine. I feal bad giving an average rating because the owner Lenny, who works th office and teaches the 5 hour class, is a great guy, but he needs to get better teachers! read more

5/5: Great Driving School! Office Staff: Receptionists and other office workers are usually friendly, or at the very least, never disrespectful. I have read some of the other reviews regarding the staff, many of which are negative, although I guess it just depends on your experience. To be honest, I never found anything off-putting about the people who work here. They may not always have a smile on their face, but they're very willing to help, which is probably the most important aspect. Scheduling: This is one feature of autocraft that I was really pleased with --their scheduling system. It's very organized compared to some of the other services that I previously tried. You will plan out each individual lesson, which basically consists of a date and time, before any instruction actually begins. I found this to be a much better method than having to schedule each lesson on an individual basis. Again, it will vary from person to person, but I just find that planning ahead is more efficient. Also, just to throw it out there, the five hour class only took around 3 and a half hours. I know some other schools won't make you sit through anything and just hand you the certificate, but at least this was a nice touch. Driving Instruction: This, above everything, is what really matters and ultimately labels a driving school as being successful or not. Unfortunately though, that's why choosing the right school can be so difficult. As I'm sure you've imagined, I can only provide a review of my teacher and can't really talk about anyone else. Unless you happen to get the same person as I did, your experience will probably be different. Not necessarily worse though. My teacher, Edwin (same name, go figure), was probably the main reason why I enjoyed my time at Autocraft so much. In addition to always being on time, if ever early, he was extremely helpful during sessions. To elaborate, he always provided tips on how to be a better driver and ultimately have more control over your car. More importantly, he constantly made references to the road exam. Not in regards to the date, but he would always mention several key factors that the examiners are watching for. This proved to be very useful on test day, despite any natural feelings of tension that most people are bound to experience. While anxiousness is usually unavoidable, having a good teacher is really the best and only effective way of preparing. As an added bonus, you can request your instructor to a certain degree. Obviously if the person you want is either unavailable, overbooked, or not currently not employed at autocraft, than unfortunately you'll have to settle for someone else. And again, other than Edwin, I can't really speak for anyone else. Final Thoughts: Disregarding office staff, friendliness, level of organization, and any other miscellaneous factors, the most crucial aspect of any driving school is how well they're able to prepare their students. For my experience, autocraft exceeded this standard. They were reliable, helpful, and above all, provided me with a superb instructor. Don't get me wrong though. The small factors mentioned before should be considered when choosing a school to enroll in, as it can provide a sense of comfort and reassurance. But in reality, those minor details won't get students what they really want--their license. Does it always matter if the staff is welcoming? Unless there are some extreme cases or if it's a personal preference, than not exactly. Again, small details will definitely help a company's image, but ultimately won't get their consumers anywhere. As long as the price fits your budget and you're able to find a good instructor, I'd say go for it--autocraft or not. read more

I agree totally with the post above. The same thing happened to me. The instructor covered 3-point turns and parallel parking on my LAST TWO LESSONS (OF 12!!!!). But it gets better. He suggest i get more lessons (which i did) only to STILL no cover them properly. After driving other cars i can tell you the cars at autocraft are far from the best and may leave you heavy footed ( had to adjust to this when i changed schools). I would recommend this school to someone that ALREADY knows how to drive and just need to refresh themselves (they do have the best prices in queens), but for instruction GO ELSEWHERE. read more

I had no experience driving so I bought the package with the 5 hour class and 9 lessons. I had my doubts at first because I wished my teacher was a little more patient but his direct manner turned out to be very helpful. Over the course of just a few weeks I was able to take his feedback and learn some really good tips with an excellent outcome. I practiced a little in between lessons and took the advice that was given to me. A few weeks later I passed the road test on my first try. I found all of the people at the driving school to be very nice. Lenny taught my 5 hour class and was very humorous and made it painless. Leon was my instructor. He's stern but also a very nice person. My advice is to just relax. It's not a personal criticism. In the end, they're there to help you be your best and safest. Good luck everyone! I bought a package deal from this school for 9 classes, plus the 5-hour class and a road test appointment. The classes have actually been quite helpful, which is why I'm giving them an extra star. My instructor isn't necessarily the nicest guy, and he's a little distracting (i.e. yelling at me to hit my turn signal when I've already done it; reaching over me to honk the horn and curse when someone behind me gets impatient), but the important thing is that he got the message across. The front desk, though... it's kinda hard to judge them, since it's not always the same person. The first few times I've called, I got a very nice woman who went out of her way to help me schedule lessons and switch instructors when necessary. But THEN there's the one woman who can't speak even a little clearly, has monumental trouble understanding basic phrases and gives you an answer to a COMPLETELY different question, and forgets that she's the company's PR and treats you like a fucking incompetent child. I had to cancel a lesson last minute one time -- I already knew that rescheduling wasn't necessarily allowed, but I figured I'd go through the motions and give it a shot. The worst they can do is say, "No, sorry," right? The woman first gives me a snappy ultimatum, as if I'd done her some grievous injury in asking to reschedule. When I say I can't do the lesson, all I get is, "You lose it, sorry, bye bye, *click*" I'm not the sort of person to be offended and cry every single time about the smallest disservice (otherwise, the instructor would have driven me off a long time ago), but when there's an unnecessary level of hostility like that, it makes you wonder what the fuck is going on. The Sparknotes to my emotional, tear-jerking drama is this: instructors, while not the nicest dudes, teach you what you need to know and prepare you effectively for the test. Front desk, on the other hand, isn't helpful, gives answers to questions that aren't asked, and will rip you a new asshole when she feels like it. I did everything in this school. To the 5 hour driving course all the way to the lessons & road tests. I was blessed to have an excellent driving instructor, Tony! I highly recommend him! Although I failed the first test (my nerves took the best of me!), but I manage to pass with flying colors the second time! And it's all because my driving instructor had faith me! I had no experience behind the wheel what-so-ever, my very first lesson I was nervous as heck and didn't know I was going to be behind the wheel the very first day! This school is only good for having a defensive driving class but NOT AT ALL good for preparing for road test. Whats the point if you cannot say a single thing and keep on driving like zombies. The instructor does not properly teach and practice basic things like signals, three-point turn, parallel parking etc. I have a feeling that the owner deliberately wants a person to fail the test by not telling about whole lot of things on how to drive and wants to come back to him again and again just for money.
