Well that all changed today when my father convinced me to go for a three week bout of nearly every illness one can get. I was able to book an appointment for the same hour, and the front desk was super flexible when I was running late. Once I arrived, I was taken in within 2 mins and brought to a clean, private space. Aidan was amazing and truly took the time listen, ask follow-up questions, and let me know what to expect for the remainder of the visit. He is a gem and his personality helped make me feel comfortable and taken care of. Dr. Gold took the time to go through my history, every single noted symptom as well as some I hadn't even mentioned. He took his time with the physical exam, even double checking and making sure not to miss anything. They ran a rapid strep, flu, and Covid test as well as a chest x-ray on-site, with the results given within 10 minutes. My only regret is waiting as long as I did to be seen because, unfortunately, there was nothing they could treat me for. I will not hesitate to return in the future.

They took walk-ins that didn't seem very urgent, before seeing people with appointments. It was absurd. (I am T1D and got there early because my blood sugar was dropping. I needed to go get a meal. If I'd realized it would be such a wait, I'd have stopped to eat first. Actually, I'd have gone to a different urgent care. Why make appointments if they're not going to make any effort to honor them?)

Frankly, as someone who has worked on the other side of a…read moremedical office counter, I think it's a bit silly for folks to expect to be seen immediately as if other patients aren't also due time and attention when their concerns or questions might run long, for doctors not to book out in advance, and to not have some patience with customer service folks. People are difficult to deal with, and these folks have to deal with many people who are not feeling well, who are often navigating a tangle of insurance and stressed out, and who are probably snapping at the CSR because of it. I always give the benefit of the doubt with customer service folks, especially in healthcare - it is NOT an easy job! And in my experience, I most often get what I give as far as how I am treated. As for my medical experiences, I've been an Acton Medical patient for almost my entire life, and I have had very solid experiences with them throughout - especially of late. Dr. Natalie Cohen has developed a solid and trusting doctor-patient relationship with me, making meaningful notes about our conversations so she can follow up next time, never making me feel like she is in a rush, asking about and making suggestions for the health of my whole self, and truly listening and making me feel like she is honestly invested in my well being. She's a rare breed these days when many other doctors have made me feel like they just needed to check off the boxes and get into the next exam room.

We live in town and I've had to visit multiple departments, including the ER for both myself and taking my parents. In the 10 years or so since I first left the review, I can honestly stay I stand by my original assessment. If you, literally, don't think you'll survive the drive to Lahey or Mass General then certainly go here. Otherwise, do whatever you can to get to a better hospital. Aside from my own 1-star experiences, I've heard multiple stories of similar experiences of close friends and immediate family getting grossly misdiagnosed by Emerson. Most recently they sent a friend home after a CAT scan with a "concussion" which, fortunately, the Lahey Clinic almost immediately discovered were severe brain lesions. My father was in a car accident where Emerson missed a broken back and concussion - again, fortunately, caught days later by another hospital. It's unfortunate as we live about 2.3 miles away but between our experiences and local paramedics recommending other hospitals, it's simply not worth stopping unless absolutely critical. (Side note: Yelp's, "Not Recommended" reviews for Emerson are worth a read.)

In addition, she didn't seem to want to answer my questions and when she did, it felt condescending. Since the lenses were too strong, they needed to order new lenses for me to try. I am traveling for work the next week, and I have mentioned this to them because I requested for a weeks worth of lenses to bring to work. Dr. Gabriella did not want to give me the lenses she ordered and her reasoning wasn't because it was the wrong level but because she "couldn't give it out because it is just for the office". One of the front desk works was very nice and called another office to see if they have spares for me. This was bizarre to me because why can one office give lenses out but another can't? I really had high hopes for this place. So the second visit was disappointing. I hope it gets better.

We brought…read moreour two year-old child in to get checked out, and it was very clear that the doctor had very limited experience working with a two-year-old patient, having difficulty conducting any test and asking them to do things way beyond their age level, including asking them to kneel, to describe the theme of their last birthday party, and when experiencing any difficulty, displayed zero patience and simply said that we would have to come back in another year's time to run the exact same test again due to what she noted as a behavioral issue. In addition to shaming my child, she also told him that he would be getting a toy at the end of the appointment, and when our child showed difficulty in putting on the temporary sunglasses (with eyes dilated), she swiftly gave up on that idea, went back to her office, shut the door, and our child was given no toy. Arguably most frustrating was the fact that we showed up to our appointment on time and did not actually see the doctor for an hour and 20 minutes, at which point our child was already low on patience. Overall, I would've appreciated some understanding from the doctor, and at least some new information, as we will now have to wait 2 years to get a single update. Not coming back to LEA is a very easy decision to make!

The first time my husband had an abscess in his finger and they said it was "one of the only things they can't treat." This time, I called the pharmacy in advance and asked if Minute Clinic could prescribe antibiotics for a chest infection and was told they could. Spent 10 minutes filling out check in forms, then waited for the practitioner only to be told they could NOT prescribe antibiotics for a chest infection and sent me to an urgent care center. Take my advice, skip Minute Clinic and make an urgent care center your first choice.

But i did want to get a Hepatitis-A shot before leaving for the World Cup in South Africa on Friday (so i wouldn't have to worry quite so much if my brother sought out a strange place to eat), so i was pleased to find out that the CVS down the street from my office could do it. They smartly have a check-in kiosk akin to the one at Apple's Genius Bars, which is easy to use, although some of the information you enter might have to be handwritten on another form. The paperwork is not too bad, though, and they do a good job of making it clear what they will and won't do with information, and what information they'll provide you with. On one day, i went in to ask one of the nurse practitioners what shots they did, and she was very well-informed and helpful. The second one that actually administered the shot on another day was also very professional and explained well what i needed to do for another shot, and how to get my insurance to cover it. In general, i'm a huge fan of anybody or any thing that allows people to do simple things in a simple way, and this certainly qualifies. Here's hoping they offer more services in the future so i can really put off going to see a doctor!

Understandably, I was nervous and the prep you need to do before it quite uncomfortable and long, however it's absolutely necessary for the procedure. When I got there, I checked in and was able to do so quickly and efficiently. Plus, I wasn't even waiting all that long to be seen. After getting undressed and hooked up to the IV, they started fluids and vitals, and before I knew it I was being wheeled into the operating room. They gave me anesthesia and the next thing I remember was waking up, where they immediately came to check on me and give me some water. The discharge was fairly easily, and I felt completely comfortable and safe with them. Would recommend!
