A special person who knows what she is doing and who is attentive, caring, who takes a true personal interest in you, a memory for your name, and always checks on how we are doing. Dr. Samuel is the greatest doctor in the world. He is very competent, understanding and kind. My mother was treated by another doctor in the area who made a mistake and blinded her with incorrect shots. She was soon thereafter seen by Dr. Samuel who examined her and discovered that she had had been given a shot from a "bad batch" of medicine, and that her previously doctor had incorrectly given her the shots (with the bad medicine) in both eyes instead of the correct way -- in just one eye, for macular degeneration. We were very fortunate that a friend recommended Dr. Samuel because if she had not been treated by him, she most likely would not be able to see today. She is not only able to see, thanks to the great treatment she currently receives from Dr. Samuel, she has been able to continue seeing very well for the past 15 years!!! We always recommend him to anyone who has a problem with their eyes. He is the best ophthalmologist in the world! read more

This my second time posting a review. I do not why my first review was taken down since I only stated the facts! I was supposed to receive a refund for my husbands prescription glasses since he never should have been told they would help since he had a posterior cataract that they did not find until a week after he received his glasses!! Cataracts do not suddenly appear! The Doctor did not see it! This was a year ago since they kept canceling the surgery 3 times due to the doctors schedule! I have reached out to the Operations Mgr. as well as the office manager of the Palm Desert, Ca location. I was promised I would receive a full refund of $279.00 since it was their fault I had to wait so long to return the glasses. I was told NOT to return them until after surgery! I am still waiting! You cannot trust them to make good on their promise. We are seniors on a fixed income and do not appreciated being taken advantage of !! read more

About a month ago I woke up with double vision. I was terrified. I was referred to Opthalmologist, Dr. Tom Chang. I first saw him in Palm Desert at Acuity Eye Specialists. The people in the office were pleasant and caring. The offices are new and they have all the latest equipment. After a short exam he told me my double vision was caused by sixth cranial nerve palsy. He had seen it many times. It sounded frightening, but he soon put me at ease. Smiling he explained that the double vision would disappear and that I would see a considerable improvement within a month. He was so sure of his diagnosis that I felt completely at ease. When I returned one month after my initial visit I was almost back to normal. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs the services of such a caring and knowledgeable opthalmologist. I have been going to Acuity Eye offices for more than 2 yrs now. I have had major eye issues including some that required the best Eye Surgeons and equipment. 6 procedures. Results have been very good. Dr. Samuel is a true professional, always happily answering questions, whether in the office or via email after hours. Others in his field have seen my results and they are truly impressed with his skill and results. One went so far as to suggest I might be confused which eye he operated on because the results we so good for such a difficult eye issue. I wasn't. Everyone on the team at Acuity is looking out for the patient, at times it might not seem that is the case, they do get busy with the quantity of the patients and the quality of their service, they give the patient the time they deserve. I could not be more pleased from the experience I had at Acuity in Palm Desert today. I called right after they opened and they gave me a 9:20am appointment. I was assigned to Dr. Tom Chang and he was efficient and caring. He quickly assessed the problem of a torn retina and within the next fifteen minutes he corrected the problem. He took the time to explain what was going on and answer my questions. As for the other staff members, even though there were many patients being cared for, the staff were courteous and the system worked beautifully in getting me to the next station to have all the tests run correctly. I look back at the beginning of the day concerned I might not have my retina tear corrected. I'm so relieved and look forward to returning to Acuity when I need to. read more

I, my wife, and daughter have been patients at this facility for over two, three years and had no complaint, great service thorough ophthalmologists, UNTIL my wife first and then I had appointments with Dr. Kathy Mao, she was always in a hurry, demanded that we focus on the letters in just a couple of seconds, got impatient and hurried out, she even commented with the lady at the eyeglasses center about how impatient she got, and why, according to her. Bottom line, with the eyeglasses she prescribed we both see fairly good with one eye but not with the other, completely dissatisfied with her attitude, and ethics do not want any further appointments with her for any of us. read more

I visited Dr. Joel Solano to schedule cataract surgery. He is a super smooth talker, but a charlatan underneath. He tried to get me to schedule surgery that would cost $3600 over what Medicare allows. He was deceptive in implying that the extra costs was for a special lens, but when I pinned him down, the lens would be a monofocal lens, completely covered by my insurance. Then he gave me a song and dance about how he would be using laser surgery, which the Mayo Clinic doesn't even recommend for people having a monofocal lens implanted. I would not trust this liar to operate on my eyes. read more

I recently had an appointment with Dr. Chang. What a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in the door. The reception was great, positive, smiles. l waited less than 5 minutes, when Dr. Chang came in, introduced himself, what a rarity these days. I had to have a few tests done, they were done immediately, then Dr. Chang explained the results clearly, and in detail. Every one that I came in contact with had a smile, and was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend the Retina Institute. More doctors and offices need to follow the example set by this office. read more

generally friendly and professional and seemed to know what they were doing. My problem with Acuity is trying to get refills sent to pharmacy. Every time I need refills, the pharmacy faxes Acuity, I call Acuity for refills and we have to go through that procedure many times until a refill is finally obtained. This has happened many times with need for Latanaprobst refills and it is particularly unnerving to know that I will run out of those drops because Acuity doesn't follow through. Of course this has nothing to do with Palm Desert office as they were great. read more

I was recently switched from Vision Professionals to Retina Institute. I had the privilege of having Dr. Aiken administer my exam. Not only was it the best and most thorough exam I have ever had, but the most pleasant. Dr. Aiken is kind, honest and listens to patients and really cares. The excellent experience was completed by Lana who helped me select my new glasses. She took the time to help me make the best use of my insurance, saving me money, and getting two pairs of glasses that I absolutely love and at a very fair price. read more

I was there today for an 8 a.m. appointment and I was in an room with a young woman at 8:05 starting an eye exam. Their were many of us there but everything looked like it was being handled well. I had my exam and my eyes dilated and was sent back to the waiting room for the doctor to be free for me. When I saw Dr. Quack he was very knowledgeable about my condition and shared medication information, expected prognosis and gave me a feeling of positive hope. That was more than I get from most of my physical doctors. read more

Dr. Samuel is great and has taken great care of our eyes. I won't go anywhere else. Although, today I would like to comment on the front desk rep who for some reason was very irritated when I asked a question. After she told me to wait a moment, she then took the biggest and loudest SIGH I have ever heard. Luckily I was able to laugh it off, normally I would of embarrassed her in front of her staff. She asked "does 8AM work"?? 8 AM for what date? I'm not a mind reader, a little more training and she might make it. read more

I was lucky to have my annual check up with Dr. Mao. I was very impressed with how efficient and professional she was during the whole appointment. She found something wrong with one of my eyes, that no other doctor had previously noticed and I thank God this was caught early. She carefully explained all her findings, and went over options for contacts and glasses. I opted for daily contacts and ordered a new pair of glasses. It's wonderful to find such a knowledgeable optometrist out here in the desert. read more

Overall, the office is courteous and efficient. Seems to be a lot of patients waiting each time I have my appointment but it be because I'm scheduled right after lunch. There has always been a bit of time passing before i've been called. But it is a Doctors office and every patients needs are different. It appears the office has plenty of staff, it's a big office with lots of patients. I love my Dr, Q, he's terrific and is very thorough in his explanations. Has a gentle and kind demeanor. read more

I recommend Dr. Samuel without any hesitation. He recently did surgery on my eye. He is extremely competent and professional. I wasn't rushed and he spent lots of time explaining my problem, the surgery, and recovery process. The support staff is very efficient and friendly.
