Saw Dr. Chang today for a check up. He was extremely crabby and very short with me, his patient, and also with his staff (who were all wonderful). I will not go back for a return visit. I expect the medical professionals I visit to be not only knowledgeable, but kind and pleasant to both patients and staff. I have had to go to Acuity for the past two months coming back for an appointment sometimes twice a week for an eye problem. I have been treated on time for each appointment and all the employees have treated me with respect. I especially like the caring nature of Dr. Mao. She has made sure that I was completely cured before she released me from her care which gave me confident in her abilities to cure. read more

I originally went to the acuity I group in la Quinta who said that I was getting cataracts and needed surgery in both eyes. I did not wear glasses and could see a golf ball 300 yards away. I did wear 1.25 reading glasses. They promised my vision would be perfect. They operated first on my right eye and then on my left eye which they said was my good eye. I could not see well after the surgery and they kept promising it would get better. 1 year later and I was basically blind in my right eye. They said not to worry it was scarring on both eyes and they could do laser and my eyes would be perfect. I had that done and my vision is still terrible. My supposed good I is now 20/60. I went in for a follow-up with Dr Fish and he said everything looked great and that the only reason I had bad vision now is because I needed glasses. I told him I didn't wear glasses before any of the surgery and he said there's nothing they can do now everything is great you need glasses and walked out of the room. I filed a formal complaint with my health insurance company scan and plan on going to a different ophthalmology group to see if they can repair the damage. Had an appointment for a refraction (eye exam for glasses) when the assistant put drops into my eye. I thought they were just lubricating drops. She told me I had to go back into the waiting room because the drops were to dilate my eyes. I told her I was only in for a refraction and should not have had my eyes dilated. About a half-hour later I was called back into the exam room where the doctor now told me since my eyes were dilated he would conduct the exam. I was told I would have to return at a later date for the refraction. When I returned a few weeks later (soonest appointment I could get) I had no mask as they require. Last appointment, they gave me a mask. This time, they said they ran out of masks and that if I didn't have a mask I could not see the doctor. This receptionist had a mask on which was below her nose riding on her upper lip. I told her she was not wearing her mask and that I should not be denied my medical appointment when she pulled her mask up above her nose and was exceedingly rude telling me I could not stay. I told her to remove me from any future appointments and that Acuity Eye Group should not be in business. Based on my first experience, I'm not an attorney but I would say this borders on malpractice. My insurance was billed around $300 for their gross mistake. I didn't get any results from the exam! I do not recommend doing business with this company that cannot take care of their patients and makes huge mistakes. read more

This practice has fabulous doctors who are proficient and caring. The medical support staff are also very good but the front office really needs to be trained in customer service and efficiency. I have had numerous issues with the Palm Desert office and less problems with La Quinta. read more

My visit to Acuity and meeting Dr. Chang was a most unpleasant experience. I was there to get a second opinion on treatment going forward given by his colleague Dr. Samuel. Dr. Chang seemed annoyed upon entering the room. I let him know why I was there and he began pontificating on the many different forms of macular degeneration, perhaps to give me a lesson in opthamology? Whenever I began to speak he immediately said "wait" and continued talking. I found his tone very condescending. Dr. Chang also shared something his mother had told him, "When you get old, you go blind." This is not something you want to say to a paitent who is facing vision loss. I found it totally insensitive and quite frankly cruel. I don't expect emapathy or sympathy, but what I do expect from my doctors is an attempt to show that you care. Dr. Chang might want to take a course in edicate. His hubris is beyond pale. Overall, the staff is always terrific and it's too bad the doctors aren't. read more

Run, don't walk away from this group, unless you want to be part of an assembly line. I've worn glasses for distance for over 40 years and never have I had a problem getting a correct prescription until Acuity. I saw the Doctor and got my prescription filled there, well I couldn't even see out of my left eye. So I saw him again, and it was worse, so I saw him a third time and it was a little better but still not right. The previous glasses I had were better seeing out of my left eye then this pair. The gal in the dispensary said she was going to make me another appointment with a different doctor, great! No! I went to my appointment to see Dr. Mao yesterday and was told the previous doctor had closed out my prescription and I would have to start over, paying out of pocket. I asked to see Dr. Mao to explain that all three of my prescriptions were wrong, and even though I was her 3pm appointment I was told by the snotty receptionist that if I didn't pay $55.00 up front Dr Mao wouldn't even talk to me. Again, I was her next appointment. So now I am stuck with a pair of glasses that I have to take off to waLk as I can't see the ground evenly. DO NOT USE THIS GROUP! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND NOT THEIR PATIENTS. read more

I had a contact lens recheck appointment today. Everything went very smoothly, from check-in to the preliminary exam and then seeing Dr. Mao. She was very professional and offered me some good advice and suggestions. She evaluated me and recommended a change in prescription and contact lens type. I had my second appt in March. They told me someone would call me within two weeks to schedule the surgery. I had to call them 3 weeks later. I was scheduled for the middle of May. I then received a phone message about 3 weeks prior to surgery changing to a new doctor. They said they would call the day before surgery with the time to be there. Two days before surgery I was in a meeting when they called and I called them back later that afternoon. The scheduler was gone for the day and I was told I would receive a call the next morning. Of course, no one called the next morning and I had to call them again. I was told my surgery was scheduled for 3pm and I had to fast for 8 hours. I have a health condition that prohibits me from fasting and they should have known that. They told me I was originally scheduled for the morning but because " they hadn't heard from me" they moved me to the afternoon. They then rescheduled me for a month later. Not a word was mentioned about payment or pre-op. A week later I received a phone call saying the surgery center was not in network and they would need payment upfront. I was never told this before the first scheduled surgery. I felt like I was being scammed and I am now using another group of doctors. read more

Dr Samuels, is a terrible doctor, he writes incorrect information on patients charts to cover his ass, when he does something wrong, or does not write the incident at all. My mother went for her macular injection and the girl forgot to numb her eye he did not check and she had the fun of getting a needle stuck in her eye. I had to downgrade your rating from 5 to 4 because there's a prescription that I've been trying to get filled since January but the beginning of March was my first appointment. I saw Dr. Murphy a week ago and I thought the refill was handled. CVS tells me that they still need prior authorization to run it through insurance. I tried to call two days before my appointment this week and couldn't get through. I held for a while and then it said that it was too busy and I have to leave a message. I started doing that and was cut me off so I thought, well I'll discuss it when I'm at the office which I did. Doctor Murphy's assistant assured me that they would handle the refill of this prescription that day but it's now two days later and haven't gotten a text saying that the prescription is ready to pick up. Luckily I have about a week left of my current bottle so the rubber better meet the road here because I do not want to run out of this drop. I am blind in my right eye and don't want to become that way in my left eye. If that were to happen, I would do much more than just downgrade my rating! read more

I had just been cleared for new lenses and glasses after retinal surgery. When I made the appointment I told the receptionist I needed new glasses and new HARD lenses. When I arrived this morning for the appointment I told the receptionist I was there for prescriptions for glasses AND HARD contact lenses. I repeated the same to the first set of ladies who did some sort of examination and then to the second set I also repeated that I was there for HARD lenses as well as glasses. Then when I finally saw Dr. Mao she was very nice and breezily said, "Oh we don't do hard lenses; we don't have the right equipment. You'll have to go somewhere else." What a waste of time, gas and my morning. The problem? NOBODY REALLY LISTENS! read more

What turned out as a simple procedure, removing a cataract then correcting vison, has left her almost blind in the eye surgery was performed on. When I first went there, I met with Dr. Chang...a very nice man and good doctor. He saw that my condition needed more attention so he sent me to Dr. Solana....another nice man. The doctors SEEM to know what they are doing and are pleasant. The office is very busy and I am not the only patient and I am fully aware of that. I now have been handed off to Dr. Quach, an optometrist, who seems to be very qualified. I got the best pair of glasses I have ever had from that examination.I am grateful. However, since my first meeting, I have been there a number of times and I thought that everything was going to be the norm. Have check ups and make sure that my glaucoma is not getting too much worse and then there's a change in doctors. That doesn't make me feel real comfortable....but whatever works for them, I guess. I do let them know if I am unhappy or have a concern. Maybe I have been tagged as a problem patient. That was not my intention. My biggest concern has come from a recent event. I was battling a case of vertigo. I've had this years ago and used Dramamine to get past it. But having glaucoma made me concerned about should I take it or not. I called the 800 number. A nice gal tried to contact the 760 469 5195 number. She apologized and said that no one was responding to the call. I should try that number, myself, a little later. I did as she suggested and called the number. No answer but a voice message with instructions on what to do to leave a message and that someone would respond in the next 6 hours. Well, it was late in the day, so I did not expect a call back that day, Monday, April 18. Come Tuesday, April 19...no call back. Wednesday, the same. I called again on Wednesday and left the same message...should I be taking Dramamine with glaucoma? I have never had anyone respond to those calls. I ended up contacting my Preferred Provider doctor and she was very helpful. I am so glad I can depend on her, but she's not an eye specialist. She told to make sure that I contact the specialist...well, I did,TWICE and no one has ever responded. Maybe that phone number is no longer used. Very disappointed in the "customer care treatment" area. I guess I need to work with my insurance and see if there are other doctors that I might be able to use in the future. I was a little concerned that my needs, down the road are going to be addressed, as they should be. For now, I will have to stay put and hope that things will change for the better with Acuity. read more

Great 1st experience for me and my husband. We were seen together by Dr. Q. who was great because unlike too many ophthalmologists he was very good at keeping us informed as he did the tests. A few years back I had an ophthalmologist who did all the tests and said "Your stable I want to see you again in 3 months". I wish more doctors where like Dr. Q. Wait time was minimal, the technician was quick and VERY professional, and answered my questions about the results. read more

My daughter is between insurance right now and she noticed her vision was getting shaky while she was driving one day. She called Acuity Eye Group and they gave her a complete eye exam for a special one time amount of 49 dollars and found out that she does need glasses. She ended up getting contacts for less than 60 dollars. The doctor actually set her up with two different contact lenses to choose from to see which one was a better fit for her eyes because he says that you need to be trained on how to wear contacts or you simply won't be able to comfortably wear them all day. As a mother of two educated accomplished full grown women I am so glad a place like this still exists for everyone to achieve their optimal vision even if they are in between insurance. read more

Billing, ahhhhh! This is my second and final billing issue with this group as I and my husband will not return, ever. In August 2020, I received two invoices out of the blue. One 18 months old (from March 2019) and one 9 months old (from November 2019). In August 2020, I called Aquity and they directed me to Renaissance as they did the billing. I called Renaissance to ask why I received these invoices and was told they changed billing companies and after their audit, these invoices were discovered to have never gone out. No heads up, no phone call, just here are two very old invoices. I explained to the billing person that I would pay the invoices if I can determine they are accurate charges and to please help me understand the invoices. I asked for itemized statements. After many weeks, got a copy of "their itemized statements" which looked just like the invoices. No copay deducted, no activity what so ever. Invoices kept coming every month, even though I previously asked for a hold/no collection as I am trying to resolve the invoice issues they have brought out of thin air. I asked for an audit of the accounts as I still couldn't determine if these were accurate charges. No call back. So, I went to the local Renaissance office for help and a copy of my notes and invoices were copied and I was told the issue would be escalated and someone from billing would call me. No call back. I again went back to the local Renaissance office and was told one account has a zero balance and only 1 invoice remained. I asked why. She didn't know. Again I was told the billing issue would be escalated and someone from billing would call me. No call back. By this time it is 6 months later, February 2021, and I am no further understanding or determining if the charges are accurate. Invoices came every month on both accounts. I called Renaissance billing again and was told there are two invoices, one was written off in error. Back to square one after 7 months!!! April invoices came and I once again called Renaissance billing. Was told one invoice, the lower amount, was cleared as a courtesy to me because the invoice was so old and I had been trying to understand the invoices with no help. Well, they couldn't even get that right as they cleared the invoice from November 2019, not the invoice from March 2019. I had had enough. I told the Renaissance billing person, I am DONE! I paid the 1 invoice right then and their over the phone, still never knowing if the charges were accurate. Horrible service and highly incompetent billing. Thanks for making YOUR problem my problem and wasting 8 months of my time. read more
