    Carne Asada Fries
    Josh H.

I got charged $18 for carne asada fries, I didn't check what it was listed as on the drive through menu but on the website it shows $12 so unless they charge $6 for jalapeños I was ripped off here and either paid for an employees food or they added a tip before charging my card

Shrimp from my shrimp burrito bowl.

The rest of my burrito bowl wasn't bad, but unfortunately every single shrimp inside still had its digestive vein thing.

    Salsa bar, muy sabroso!
    Vanessa S.

I came here recently and wanted to update my review. The flavor and quality of the food has improved. I also appreciated how clean the salsa bar was along with the restaurant. The only thing was the chemical odor inside. I don't know if they had just cleaned but there is a strong cleaning solution smell in the entire place. I can see that they pride themselves in cleanliness but when you are eating at the same time with smelling the chemicals, it decreases the enjoyability of the experience. Other than that, I like the Mother Mary statue inside, the salsa bar is my favorite and the niceness of the cashier who allowed me to get chips and salsa while I was in the drive thru. Note: if you are driving through you have to pay extra for then chips and salsa. So it's best to go inside to get it for free when you purchase a meal. This location is probably my favorite adalberto compared to the others. Although, I wish they served the posole and menudo on the weekends like some of the other locations.

The corn chips were great and the flour chips were fresh and warm! We had the taco salad with carne asada, a shredded beef taco, and an enchilada. I was stuffed afterwards. The meat was fantastic... the flavor and texture. The servings were generous. And the food came out quite quickly despite the restaurant being at least halfway full. Will definitely be back!

Promising! Ordered to-go ... first of all, the menu is outdated so what should have been my bill was $10 higher than I thought. I get it, prices go up. But when my bill was $70 and not the $50 I was expecting, I was curious. I was charged an additional $1.50 for each item that had chicken in it (mind you the menu noted there would be that extra charge for burritos and every one of those items was a taco). Then I was charged for chips and salsa when the menu said those came with the meals. So the $10 upcharge is now at $18; there's the $20 difference. Now the food. Chips were stale and unsalted. I got two salsas: one that was too spicy to eat (I had asked for mild or medium) and one that was reminiscent of a ketchup base. Hard-shell chicken taco (I asked for soft): zero flavor (but the cheese was good). Soft chicken taco: I wouldn't know as these were my daughter's but she asked where I picked up dinner because the chicken had zero flavor. 0/5 stars on the upcharged chicken tacos - guess I should have stuck with cheese tacos and avoided the upcharge. Carne asada soft taco: this one was OK, meat was a little dry but at least it was seasoned; probably the best item in the order for 3.5/5 stars. I'd say I'd give them another chance, but ask more questions before handing over an extra $20 because that's totally on me ... but when your disappointed hungry kid tells you her food has no flavor, that's a hard no for this mama bear.

Complimentary corn tortilla chips, salsa, and refried bean dip with cheese. I loved the REFRIED BEAN DIP! I ordered the Steak a la Chicana. I didn't read or listen carefully enough that the skirt steak with sauteed onions and bell peppers are covered in Spanish sauce. The sauce is actually quite tasty with a little kick. I used it and the salsa to flavor the black beans. However, I really just wanted grilled steak. I should have ordered steak fajitas, a grilled steak burrito or quesadilla, or a carne asada plate. The Steak a la Chicana was a generous portion, which is definitely 2 meals for me. Cilantro rice wasn't anything special. The SWEET CORN TAMALITO is yummy comfort. Choice of beans: refried beans, black beans, or pinto beans. I suspect refried beans is the tastiest option. El Tapatio would be a great gathering place for friends and family. However, this is my first time trying out their Fair Oaks location. Coincidentally, this restaurant is also on Madison Ave but roughly 4 miles east and adjacent to Fair Oaks Blvd. Located in a small strip-mall, this place neighbors other family owned-and-operated businesses that include "Fabian's Italian Bistro" and "Moth Hole Consignment Boutique". And to those of you locals that remember, this is actually where "El Gallo Mexican Restaurant" once stood from 2018-2024. I came here with my lady during the evening of Tuesday 6/24/2025 at around 6:00pm. The parking lot was packed with cars which I am assuming was a blend of El Balcon and Fabian's customers among others. One thing that really caught my attention was the generous outdoor patio as their Manzanita location does not offer. However, the big picture is on the inside of this place. First of all, it is way more spacious and secondly, they offer a full bar with some amazing top-shelf tequilas. The dining area itself has a main room but also an additional dining room with a ton of seating. Menu options are quite similar to their other location and I've got to say, they offer a huge variety of everything; tacos, burritos, enchiladas, seafood, and much more. They even offer a standard non-Mexican breakfast entree menu served daily from 9am-2pm. During our visit, we took full advantage of their "Happy Hour" special. And since it was a Tuesday, what better way to make the week better than tacos? I ordered two "Carnitas" tacos and one "Pollo" taco. Best of all, these were only $1.75/ea (as of summer 2025). The salsa bar is also very impressive with a huge variety of mid/hot salsas, jalapeños, radishes, limes, and fresh tortilla chips. Once placing our orders, our food arrives in a quick 5 minutes. And as you can see from the photo, they did not disappoint. Surprisingly, the real winner here was their red salsa as it offered the perfect balance of tangy and spicy. Both tacos were cooked to perfection as the seasoning on both the carnitas and pollo tacos tasted amazingly delicious. Even the owner/manager came over to our table to make sure we were enjoying our food. He was also full of enthusiasm and positive energy which showed how much he genuinely cared for his business and its customers. All in all, the Fair Oaks "El Balcon Taqueria" earns a unanimous five-star rating in my book. The amazingly affordable prices, top-notch customer service, convenient location, and delicious Mexican food earn all high notes from me. Best of all, they are open seven days a week from 9am-9pm. Come hungry and if you wish to partake in a cerveza or well drink, they will have you covered!

I have seen Niko's Tacos all over my social media. It instantly caught my attention that I had to come in and see what the hype was about. After spending a very busy day with my client, I came here for a late lunch. I actually almost passed it up. It shares the parking lot with 7/11. There are only about 4 parking spaces out front. When you walk in, there are only 4 tables that can seat up to 4 people each. It is very cozy in here. The only menu I noticed is on the counter at the register. There were so many things to choose from. So today, I am trying their Zip Tacos! For meats, they offer grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, and newly added, al pastor. Inside these zip tacos, there are tomatoes, onion, cilantro, melted cheese, and the taco shell on the outside has sour cream and cotija cheese sprinkled on. Since I decided to sit and dine in, they brought me my order. I got 1 al pastor zip taco and 1 shrimp zip taco. These looked so pretty! I got an order of pretty tacos, lol. The colors inside were vibrant, and the drizzle of sour cream topped with cotija cheese was a nice touch. They offered me mild or spicy sauce. Of course I went with spicy. The shrimp zip taco was different, but very delicious. The shrimp inside was cooked just perfectly. I craved that next bite. The al pastor was ok. It seemed to be missing a little more flavor on just the meat. I loved how the tacos came dressed to party.... in my mouth. They even had bits of crusty cheese along the edges that added tasty bits to your taco. Next time I have a solo taco party, I'll be sure to come with a bigger appetite!
