It is difficult to rate this company because I have such mixed feelings, but I'll do my best. First and foremost, the final result is beautiful and I couldn't be happier. The good: The pulse of the project is the skilled craftsmen/women that actually perform the work. All crews and foremen, from plaster removal to tile to pebble plus finish, without exception are excellent at what they do. I had no idea how much skilled labor is involved in a pool renovation! These craft masters are truly the reason that Adams is able to produce such consistently stellar results. The showroom is amazing. Even if you think you know what you want as far as materials, make the trip over. They sure have an impressive setup! We needed to completely renovate our pool and spa. We got bids from a few companies, tried to meet with a few others and although we were initially concerned about some of Adams Pool's negative reviews they came highly recommended by someone in the business. Were things perfect? No, there were some delays, some communication issues, and a few minor items here and there. But, most renovation projects are not without a few glitches. When there was an issue, Jeremy the supervisor, was terrific, he responded immediately and fixed the problem, the office was responsive to communication issues and more importantly, Adams stood by their bid, did not charge a penny extra, even when they ran into an unforeseen problem. This is a company that is honest, has integrity and values their customers. As to another reviewer complaining Adams expected to get paid immediately, duh, of course, they do! They are not a huge corporation that can float their bills for a long time and all of this is spelled out and made very clear in the contract. When you see all the crews, trucks and equipment out at your job and the level of professionalism it is clear to me their overhead has to be high with a large payroll, insurance, etc., as a business person I get it and wanted to be sure I paid them on time, they earned it! Wow! What an ordeal using Adams Pool Solutions. Let me start by saying that the work did get finished (fiberglass resurface) and the actual people who did the work were pleasant and seemed to do quality work. Hopefully they will honor the 5 year warranty if there are any issues. TBD. Now let me warn you about the company's poor management, lack of communication, almost corrupt obsession on getting their check for each phase before the workers have even left the premises or before final inspection was completed. Although I was never late or delayed on a payment, their badgering abuse for requesting instant payment was a constant source of contention because, legally, they must allow the consumer a certain time to pay (I think 5 days from completion?). Their project manager, Chris Newton, was belligerent, rude, condescending, unapologetic, and obnoxious. He gave no details, never communicated timing, and was short, rude or condescending. When I told him that I would not pay the final installment before final inspection and once the pool was operational (they had to fix the pool sweep connection that the fiber glass de-threaded), he threatened that I had to pay him that day. I said I didn't have to legally until the work was done and he could ask the police. He actually showed up at my door with a police officer (and a huge grin on his face) to try to badger me. When I asked why he brought police he laughed and said "Because I'm afraid of you." with a smile . Obviously, he was not afraid of me. He is wide and strong looking and shows up with two other big guys while I'm a 5'8" med build 51 year old female. The police officer quickly saw that this was simply a ploy of his to harass me (the customer!) and told me I had no obligation to pay and that it was not a police matter. We waited together until the pool passed inspection and although we didn't legally have to pay that day I always had the check ready anyway. Chris Newton is a bully and a low-class individual with no customer service skills. He is their project manager for the SF Bay Area! The Town told the officer that I was within my rights to wait to pay until Final Inspection of the work passed and that they are well aware of many complaints against Adams Pool Solutions. Besides the terrible project management, the lack of customer consideration and inability to communicate scheduling went on from day one of the project, causing many unnecessary lost hours of work for me. It was headache after headache as one reviewer says. Each part of the company didn't know anything about what was going on from another part of the company. Their internal processes are very inefficient and incompetent. They also failed the permit request application twice before I spent a morning at the town simply finding out what was missing. They just had to note what the two barriers to the pool for safety were. Easy. I took care of it myself. PLEASE BEWARE IF YOU CHOOSE THIS COMPANY I documented all my issues and concerns with the company's owner and management. I got no response. read more

Had my pool resurfaced and I couldn't be happier with the outcome and cost. You need to ask for John Rafalski as the pool designer to give you a quote, and Manny Torres as the pool project manager. My pool is beautiful with Johns recommendations and input. Never have I received such great service and value from a company as Adams Pool Solutions. Manny explained every steps of the project and always shows up on time. I feel like I was treated as a family member by Manny. If there was a delay or issues he would reach out and let me know ASAP. He was very responsive and on time to meet me even though when hes an hour and half away. He was also accommodating throughout the project because of issues I had with a concrete contractor. My pool light was loose after the completion of the project. I texted Manny over the weekend about the pool light, he replied back on Monday morning that it will be taken care of. My family and I was swimming later that Monday evening and to our surprise, the pool light was fixed. I would expect it to be taken care of with in the week, but this is the over the top service you can expect from them. You wont be disappointed if you go with them. read more

Had my pool resurfaced with pebble tec, new coping, tile, moved some plumbing. The pool turned out beautiful but had issues with cracking tile and coping lifting up. Adams Pools blamed another contractor (pool patio concrete)-- it was clearly Adams' fault with poor workmanship but they play the blame game whenever they can. They came out to repair after almost daily calling and charged me extra (even though it was under warranty). We settled on splitting the bill but their customer service, attitude and workmanship are poor. Every time you talk to them they act like you're putting them out... not great after 12k+ worth of business. read more

A little over three years ago, I had my pool restored by Adams Pool Solutions in Pleasanton, CA. I got quotes from two pool repair companies, both were about the same, but I was familiar with the Adams name, so I went with them. I should've gone with my senses and avoided them since a number of years earlier, one of their salesman had come out to estimate a wall repair in the pool, then disappeared on me, ignoring phone calls, etc. They went right to work with what appeared to be semi-skilled labor, and before long, there were "additonal" repairs that needed to be done, not on the original quote. I think there were a few of them, adding apprx $5400 to the job. They claim to only use their own employees, not true, they sub several jobs out. Actually that is fortunate since they were much more skilled than the Adams employees. When they finally resurfaced the walls with the plaster, it was rippled and blotchy, very obvious at night when you turn on the pool light. Then the plaster around the water entrance opening peeled away, which they repaired at no cost. After the job was "complete", I was losing about 4" of water daily, so they came back a few times to "resolve" the problem...the first two solutions failed, and it was determined that the pool light niche needed to be resurfaced. This was not done for some reason when the pool was restored, and unfortunately for me, they wanted more money to repair the niche. This was after an enormous sum of money for the restoration. I sent a letter to Mark Hannigan regarding those charges, which was ignored. So I paid and had the niche repaired, and the job was done...after first failing since they thought they could seal the leaks with silicone caulk. Now after three years, after the pool warranty has expired, the plaster around that niche is coming apart, and I have a leak in one of the corners. This is something I can repair, no problem, but after a full pool restoration that cost thousands of dollars, why are problems surfacing after only three years?? I'm not sure any of the local pool repair companies can do any better, or if they have longer warranties, or whatever. But if I had to do it again, I wouldn't use Adams for the work. read more

Adams resurfaced my pool and it looks very nice. The reasons for the 3 stars... They would call me about every other day telling me what they were going to do, but each time they did not complete their job and had to push back the dates. There was no one in charge that came by each day to make sure everything was done properly. Additionally, I had a salesman come over twice to review my pool, but overlooked something and had to charge me extra when I already signed the contract for the amount bid. read more

Our pool was done by Adams in March of this year. I had contacted four different companies for estimates. Adams wasn't the cheapest, but they did negotiate a little on their overall quote and given their reputation, I ended up going with them. Ryan is a great sales person, would even reply to emails over the weekend. Some questions I had about changing things in the quote did take some time to get answered. Once the project started, I was very impressed. Mark from the office called every day and left a message on the status of the work. Since I was rarely home when they were working, it was great to know what was going on. There was a 2-3 day delay in some of the work due to weather, but who has every worked with a contractor that was exactly on time? Being told daily that there was a delay made it all easier than me having to guess what was going on. The workmanship is excellent. The machine they used to take out the old plaster was really really loud, but they never started very early which was great for the neighbors. Unfortunately, the day they did the plaster they showed up at 630 or 7am and that machine was also very loud. I wish I was given some notice to let the neighbors know ahead of time. But it's beautiful, the tile work, the plaster, it's all very well done. The customer service was excellent. The workers that came were very polite, tidy, no trash left behind. Overall, we were really happy with everything. read more

A follow up to my prior post. After 18 months the new tile that Adams had installed started to come loose. When I contacted them they had someone out to look almost immediately. Within a week the sent their crew in and fixed the problem and re-tiled about 1/3 the pool perimeter. It was less than two weeks from when I first contacted Adams to when the pool was repaired and back in operation. So great response and it indicates they do stand by their work. Earlier this year, Adams Pool Solutions renovated our 1940's pool with Pebble Fina Classico, two mosaic sea turtles, and a custom waterline tile installation. The short story is that they did an amazing job under complicated circumstances involving winter weather, extensive custom tile work, a tight budget, and graciously dealing with me and my often intense desire to discuss every detail and plan, plan, plan. I highly recommend using Adams Pool Solutions and we love the Pebble Fina. Having renovated the pool in 1990 with new plaster and then watching it fail over time (different company-I think they went out of business), we wanted to find something more long-lasting but still have the classic swimming pool look to go with our 1920's Mediterranean style home. We hope to get a good long life out of this material. I didn't get to use our solar heated pool until this last heat wave and I finally got an up-close look at the job they did. I had watched the process with great interest and have enjoyed looking at the finished pool during the cold months. The quality of work is excellent and exceeded all my expectations. I had challenged the Adams Pools crew with my own waterline tile mosaic which consisted of 100 linear feet of Heath Tile set in a mid-century Mondrian-like pattern with an uneven bottom line that must have had a hundreds of different edge heights. They had to create the substrate, install the sheets of tiles I had assembled, then hand cut the concrete substrate to fit all the little tile bits. Not only did they complete the task skillfully, quickly and cleanly, they didn't chip a single tile which were vulnerable because of the design. As a mosaic artist, I appreciate their commitment to detail and the grouting was perfect. When work started, we were in a serious drought, but Murphy's Law was waiting for us and during the plaster demolition phase, we had days of rain which they worked through efficiently and again cleanly. When I came home from work the first night, I thought they hadn't been there until I looked in the pool. Not a chip of plaster was anywhere to be seen on the ground. Also, we have intense groundwater and the workers had to deal with a pool that could fill halfway up overnight. We ran the pump a lot. Our sales person, Bob Marceau, was wonderful to work with throughout the project. There was no slick sales pitch or talking down about the competition like the other company we interviewed did (Adams price was better too). Bob listened to our needs and requirements, clearly presented our options, and instilled confidence in the quality of the product and company he represented. We received everything he promised and Bob helped us with the one change order that was necessary. We thought our pool light was fine, but after we drained the pool, pulled out the light, we could see the corrosion, and replaced it with a LED light. Knowing my interest in mosaics, Bob also suggested that I check out Rob Vogland, a mosaic artist that specializes in pool accents. I fell in love with the sea turtles and purchased an adult and a baby sea turtle. I could not have made these mosaics myself with the technique Rob uses. After talking to 3 other pool companies, we decided on Adams and not because they were the cheapest....we decided on them because they were the most knowledgeable. We had a pool renovation that was not your ordinary renovation. Mike Anderson came out and explained how everything would work and promptly gave us a quote. I was immediately impressed, so we decided to pull the trigger. IF YOU COULD SEE OUR POOL NOW...it is friggin fabulous. Mike actually helped us with our custom color...I highly recommend additional glass...it's worth the extra $$$. He was always available to deliver samples and help us with tile sections. We were actually building a spa on our property at the same time with another pool contractor, and Mike helped us coordinate the finishes so our place would ROCK. Rob was the supervisor?? We had Adams Pool Solutions completely retile and replaster our 27-year-old pool and hot tub, and also design and construct a few minor remodel touches (additional benches, etc.). Every person we interacted with, from the initial sales consult (Mike A.) to our project manager, to each and every worker who came out to work on the pool, was professional and polite. We changed our design several times and everyone at Adams worked with us patiently and creatively, even some folks in the showroom who weren't involved in our project (Rikki - thanks for suggesting the awesome stone tiles!). The work was completed on time and within the quoted budget and we were kept informed of progress throughout. The various crews that came by to do their parts were extremely polite, hard-working and left the worksite clean, every single night. It has been several months since the work has been completed and our family is loving our new pool - it looks beautiful and is a great place for us to enjoy with family and friends. As a testament to Adams' outstanding level of customer service, the doorbell rang the other day and it was Mike (our initial sales rep), who had heard that we couldn't fit an umbrella into the umbrella holes we had them put into the pool. He had a few pvc fittings he had scrounged up, got into the pool and tried to fix the problem then and there. And when those pipes didn't fit, he vowed to keep looking for some that would. I just don't think you see that level of service and commitment these days, especially not on a job that had been completed with no complaints from us. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! Royal Pools and Adams Pools work together and I cannot be more disgusted with them both. We are on 6 months of having our pool started and it isn't even half way done and it isn't projected to be done until late August. A project that was suppose to take 3-4 months will take 9+ months. When we started the project we were told that we were the only clients on the books and that it would be done quickly. LOL, 7 months later and we are still waiting. They didn't have any hesitations taking our money but have yet to produce work. There have been times that we haven't heard from anyone for weeks at a time. It took me contacting Tami the scheduler to get things started again. Once I emailed her, wow the next day a team arrived. But once they finished a 2 day tile project, we have been waiting again for 8 week now! Another time when the guys were suppose to come on Monday to start laying the coping, they didn't show up. Tuesday came, no show, Wednesday came, no show, not until my husband called the supervisor who then told us that he just found out that there was a delay and they'd be out Thursday. Well Thursday came and went and so did Friday. The next Monday came and still no word or work. Now we are at 8 weeks since any work has been done. 8 weeks? Really? I am beyond furious. The projected next day of work is Tuesday but Wednesday is a holiday so we will be set back once again. I wish I never chose to get a pool with Royal Pools. My family has put our lives on hold to ensure that we are around for the work and never know when someone will be at our house working. Such a shame and heartbreak. And all the money we have already spent has gone to a company that does not produce. Shame on them. There are so many other things that I could put in this review but it will end it here. We live in the Santa Cruz area and needed to remodel our 1985 vintage pool and equipment, a fairly serious and expensive project. I interviewed virtually all the big pool contractors in the bay area to get a feel for their sense of the scope of work and pricing. Everyone we talked to with the exception of Adams felt that we should demo the coping and plaster to ensure a good finished product. My wife and I felt the coping was still in good shape and that the plaster had very few areas that needed to be repaired, so we were unsure of how to proceed. When we met with Tony Adams, he looked everything over and told us he could indeed save the coping and plaster and still give us a project that would stand the test of time. He said that they would grount in the new tile but use a flexible mastic for the top joints, which allowed us to save the coping. We also decided to saw cut and replace the entire expansion joint around the pool to prevent deck movement. We replaced all the equipment, tile, and put a Pebble Tec plaster finish over the repaired original plaster. Every Adams crew we met were friendly, professional and respectful of our house and landscape. Our project was finished in early August on time and on budget, so we couldn't be more pleased that we hired Adams Pool Solutions to remodel our pool. I just bought a house in 2012. The house had a very large pool. I have never owned a pool before so I had no idea how to go about this. I called 3 of the most recommended contractor in our area, Aqua Gunite, Burkets Pools, and Adams Pools. I got a bid from all three, I only felt comfortable with Burkets and Adams. The rep from Aqua rescheduled our appointment 3 times and was 2hrs late to our 3rd appointment. It took almost 2 weeks to follow through on the proposal and contract. (that's another story) A rep from Adams ( Ryan Eula) met me at the house as we were moving in, he was ON TIME, and polite. He was there for a an hour and called me later that day with a few options. We made a second appointment for Ryan to explain what we could and could not do. I received the contract and used that to negotiate with Burkets. Adams price was a little higher than Burkets, but offered a few extra upgrades. I went with Adams and they got started the next week. The job went fast and Rob Wicks supervised the entire project. I didn't get a chance to meet any of the masonry crews but they did a wonderful job. I wish I could give them an extra tip because those guys created a work of art out of a pile of rocks. All of the crews did a terrific job. The remodel was 3 full weeks and crews were working on the pool every day. Mark Adams was my contact in the office and he let me know what was going on every day. I'm on the road every day and sometimes out of town for 4-5 days at a time. Mark made it easy for me to understand what was going on day to day. Contacted Adams pools out of Sacramento. They came out within a few days to take a look at my pool and give me a quote. The employee who came out was very nice and knowledgable. However it has been 3 weeks and I have not received the quote from them. I have called numerous times and have been greeted by various rude employees giving me the run around. Adams pools DOES NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS, look somewhere else and support another local business. Weather or not they actually wind up doing a good job in the end (from other posts) is irrelevant. After many bids to resurface our buildings' pool we chose Adams pools for the price and the reviews. We started a little later than i had hoped because it took 2 months to get the permit, i think that was probably a back log over at the health department. We finally got the permit and the guys were out almost immediately to empty the pool and start taking off the plaster. They did a great job and were fast throughout the whole process. Mark contacted us daily when the project started with constant updates on what they did that day and what needed to be done the next. The experience has been an exercise in frustration: poor communication with the customer, poor communication internally within the company, and always an excuse. Called these people out for a quote, had to call twice. Someone came out to see what we wanted to do. Two weeks later asked for them to drill down on some items in the quote, missed the deadline... Had to follow up and then I received a letter that they aren't interested too busy..... really a phone call would have been nice instead of just sending a letter.... Ok I am remodeling my pool I used Adams Pool Solutions in Pleasanton. First off I would like to Rikki who works in the office for her excellent customer service. She was very helpful in helping me select some tile that I ended up using in a pool mosaic. Ok Back to the pool. Our sales person Ryan was very nice even though it was hard to reach him sometimes. However once we went to the office we were able to select the pool coping and tile and pool color Pepple Plus Sapphire Blue. So we wait about 3 weeks for them to start. We are on the schedule to start on the 7th which we did. They drained the pool and next they came and and took out the tile and coping. The guys where very polite and did a great job of cleaning. But they broke the fill line that supplies water to the pool. No problem I call my scheduler and he would have that fixed before the coping installed. So her is when the problem came up. We were having all the plaster removed from the pool this process is called chipping. So these guys were suppose to show up the next day after the finish with the tile and coping. I got a call from our scheduler telling me they were coming the next day which was a Thursday. They didn't show nor did I get a call telling me that they were not coming. So I call them. They call back and told me that they had to stay at the current job site because they didn't finish and they would be there Friday. Friday came and they do not show up. I call again. They had some problem with there truck. So Monday they were coming and now show again. I am really not happy at this point. So I let my scheduler know how unhappy I was. So they finally showed up on Tuesday these guys were amazing. This has got to be some of the most back breaking work I've ever seen. They stripped all the plaster from the walls and floor of the pool it looked like something with huge claws came in a clawed up the pool. It took two days. They clean up really well. So now I'm feeling better. So I'm expecting we are on a roll everything is going well. Guess what there was a problem with the tile I ordered. Some problem I don't know on who's end. But I don't really care. I just want my pool to be done. Well the tile gets here and the guys show up when they are suppose to. They do a beautiful job on the coping. Next day installing the( tile I had to wait a week for ) they came up short. But they called and found some more in Hayward so they sent someone down with the additional tile. Good jobs guys. Anyway they team that installed the coping and tile were super great. They did such a beautiful job I am so happy. They next day the team comes out to install the pepple finish. They were here at 6:30 am They installed that stuff in record time and OMG is it a beautiful thing. Today a new team of two is here right now sanding down the pepple finish to acid wash. I initially called Adams Pool to repair and resurface my spa. The salesperson, Steve, came out within a few days to take a look and give me an estimate. I was happy with that and that he gave me a decent estimate a couple of days later. Unfortunately that is the last time anyone from Adams has bothered to return my calls. Three calls to Steve, one to the repair department and one to their office manager have all gotten me exactly no where. Finally getting hung up on when I tried to leave their office manager a message and I am done with them. read more

Long story in short words. Their sale person MIke is awesome. After we signed a contract, nightmare started show up. Quality of product? Time will show it. Team is unbelievable. They think money. They ignore you, but when time to pay... Next, your backyard is not anymore yours. This is their project site. Crew smoked, dropped garbage, filled my planter box with dirt. Furthermore, it took me time to explain project manager that crew have to show up when it scheduled not when they decided sometimes after. Be aware, if you buy full service from them. You have to pay right after they put surface by its contract. so, your equipment and spa installation will happen sometimes after. I was lucky do not pay last payment. I could not imagine what if I paid full before.... etc. Hope, they do good quality job because I do not want any warranty service with them. read more

Called several times to set up a consultation and never heard back from them.

We used Adams pool to downsize our 20x40 pool to a 12x40 pool and Pebbletech the pool about 15 years ago. We also added a good sized spa. The spa and pool developed multiple cracks in it several years ago and we called Adams with no returned phone call. So we just lived with it until recently. I called Adams multiple times and told them that the warranty was probably over but that either way we needed to get it repaired. On several occasions they promised to send their repair man out to look at this and call me back. They never called back. After I called Mark there several times he kept promising tgat they would look at it but finally quit calling me back. I engaged with another pool company and am spending $10,000 to repair the damage. They tell me that the Pebbletech seems OK but that the gunite seems to be faulty under it just in places where Adams did the modifications. Mr Adams braggs about being reachable by phone and that he returns calls. His staff does not. This is the worst customer service I have experienced fro someone I have spent a lot of money with. They definitely do noT stand behind their work or want to see you ever again it seems. Beware! Don read more

We just had Adams redo our pool for the second time. The first was about 17 years ago. We were satisfied then and more than satisfied this time. Their workmanship, customer service, attitude and job clean-up are all more than what you would expect. This is one of the oldest pool repair companies around and you cannot go wrong using them. Our pool is now about 33 years new and looks fantastic! I would call Adams again!!! read more

Adams resurfaced our then-twenty-year-old pool with Pebbletec ten years ago, and it still looks great today. We definitely did not experience the customer service issues others here have reported, and I have just recommended them whole-heartedly to another potential client.
