Adams Street is a good spot for traditional beers. You won't find anything too fancy here, beyond a Kentucky common perhaps. But if you're looking for a rustic German vibe with tasty lagers and the like, this is a good spot in downtown Chicago. We also ordered the apple and onion soup and the Bavarian pretzel. This brewery seemed to have a lot of history. There were regulars there, but also tourists looking for a good beer. I got the flight and I looked 2/4 beers. It was a decent selection and had the feel of a German establishment. I didn't get any food, but the people next to me did and it smelled good. The service was standard. I loved the layout, atmosphere, history, and beer selection of this place. My group did not order much food here, because we had dinner reservations next door, but we did enjoy (and I mean REALLY enjoy) those pretzels as well. The mustard was very popular, the cheesy dipping sauce less. They were unfortunately out of a few of the beers that evening, but apart from that, it was a great experience. I did make the mistake of finding an older website that listed happy hour prices. That is neither a current website nor linked from the restaurant, so any information from that is not current. I like Berghoff's, I really do. The Dunkel I had was great, but it was also $9. I know, "Welcome to Chicago". The problem is the middle class is being squeezed so hard, we have to consider how many $9 beers can we afford? Despite that; it's a bustling lively bright place where sausage & German food are still the centerpiece. At the price point it maybe come an occasion place and not a stop in place. read more

Max loves German food and we were pleased to see this brewery attached to a German restaurant. Max was all in for a beer. I'm not a beer lover, but I did see root beer on the menu. They make their own. I'm not much of a carbonated drink lover, but I chugged that root beer like I was trying to win a contest at a frat party. It really quenched the thirst. Seating around the bar is plentiful, and they even have hooks under the bar top for your bag. We are coming back for dinner, we just aren't sure if it will be back at the bar, or maybe we will sit at a table. read more

This place was neat inside. The beer wasn't to my taste but we all built flights and appreciated a few of the pours. The place was packed due to Chicago Marathon weekend and it seemed like there was one server for a ton of tables. She did an awesome job running around trying to take all the orders and get food out. My friend got a grilled chicken salad that looked fabulous and she loved it. The rest of us got sandwiches and they were fine nothing super exciting. Really liked this venue. It has a real pub-like atmosphere and was packed with off-work professionals as well as a nice mixed age crowd. The hazy IPA was decent and the selection of German style beers was good. The less formal side of Berghoff. We stopped in for a quick lunch. I had the Cuban sandwich which was really great with their pork jus. My friend had a Ruben and said it was great. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Gave us a rundown of who was in the portraits and good choices on the menu. I will come back on my next trip! read more

Great layout and friendly staff. The beers are top notch except for one... The Macho Mang Randy Cabbage I take offense to. Randy Poffo aka Macho Man Randy Savage is turning over in his grave that this particular beer which alludes to him is only 4%. Macho King would be screaming "OH no brother!!!!!!!!!". Furthermore, sour beers, ones with sauerkraut flavors didn't even exist while he was alive. He also never "soared with the eagles" as he was a baseball player and his soaring move was a textbook flying elbow drop. Next time I am at his grave site I will be pouring out one for him, but it won't be the Macho Mang. I miss you Elizabeth and may Lex Luger rot in hell. It would be more proper to make a beer of 12-15% to honor Macho. I would suggest making a beer of 14% to honor his championship in the 14 man wrestling bout which he won in 1988. read more

Adams Street Brewery is both a pub and brewery. It's actually a part of The Berghoff Restaurant. Sit at the bar and you can get beer and order food too. Lots of their own beers and many guests. The food is rather uninteresting. It has a pretty long history in the area. Something that has even more history is the restaurant this is brewed in. The Berghoff is a classic and looks like it's been here a long time. Forget about the food. What's much better is what's on tap. I was sure to try a beer. Last time here it was a Helles Lager, a best seller. It's $7 for a pint. This is very clean looking and smooth. Also check out The Berghoff food menu. It basically is typical stuff at a pub. The food isn't all that impressive but the atmosphere is classic and you can find some pretty good things. read more

Strolled into this place on a Saturday afternoon looking to grab a beer or two with an appetizer. Straight up, the cheese curds were very whatever, and the sauce that accompanies it was also meh. We had to ask for ranch since I feel like that is generally a better pairing. Did I also mention that the curds came out lukewarm, if not even almost on the cold side? It seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. Not a fan. I guess the pretzel that we ordered was a bit bette rain s it actually came out warm and fresher tasting. It was just okay though. The cheese sauce that came with it wasn't really anything to write home about, and the sweet Dijon mustard tasting dip was alright. I preferred the Dijon mustard that is at the table already for a pairing with these pretzels. Beers were good, and our server was nice, although we didn't really see her much. We had another person check on us, but overall our dining experience was meh here. I do love the architecture and historical value of this place. They did a great job keeping this place alive and together. Restoring old Chicago gems is important for the city. I guess I'd return again, but would definitely want to try their more well known entrees from the restaurant next door. read more

There was an entertaining Oktoberfest duo performing and it was definitely a fun scene (we went toward the end of September.) Large bar/lounge area and friendly bartender. I don't know much about beer and definitely not an avid drinker, but thought the beers here were so easy to drink. Only came in for a flight to try out some of their beers, and thought it was decent. I feel like their beers are very similar in taste, nothing particularly outstanding about them. The place was quite large and good for parties. There is a bar for beers and other alcohol and lots of space for those who want food. I can't say much about their food because we only did a beer flight and no food. Stumbled upon this place after checking into our nearby hotel. Wish they had a wider selection of beer, but they have the basics like your hefs, ipas, and pale ales. What was nice was they serve German food from berghoff's next door. We ordered a Bavarian pretzel, mini brat and wurst, and a wiener schnitzel to go with our beer flights. What a fun little bar! Attached to Berghoff's and definitely relished in the Oktoberfest season. Beer options were okay - they offered a stout, which I appreciated. After seeing an Oktoberfest ad on Instagram, I had the most intense craving for a big German pretzel with beer, so we stumbled upon this place!! Adams street brewery is the left side bar attached to the berghoff restaurant! The inside is super cozy with the wooden interior, and there were some decorations on the ceiling for Oktoberfest! We went on a Friday night around 7pm and we had no trouble finding a table. The bar was pretty full but it's open seating so the servers come to you once youre seated. We started off with their $8 flight. I got the neon rhapsody, lager, flipping waffle, and milk stout. The neon rhapsody was a light ipa with clear grapefruit, pine, and floral notes. The lager was pretty basic, the flipping waffle had a warm after taste, and the milk stout was extremely creamy, almost foamy. For $8, it was really nice to be able to try different flavors in decent amounts and compare their tastes. Our server recommended the Dunkel and Hefeweizen so I knew I had to get those. I also wanted to try the more fruitt el simtennial and a milk stout. But I was pretty sad that they ran out of Dunkel and El Simtennial. For a friday evening, I didnt expect them to be out of stock of their most popular beers, especially ones a server would recommend.... For food, there was a berghoff restaurant menu on our table so we thought it was our only dining option. Seeing their website now, adams street brewery has their own menu for bites, so if youre looking for bites to compliment your beer rather than real restaurant food, i would recommend that instead. BUT WE DIDNT KNOW SO we got the Bavarian pretzel (ofc!!!) and mini brats. The pretzel is BIG and comes with a cold honey mustard plus warm beer cheddar sauce. I didnt really taste the cheddar in the sauce and I was a bit surprised to see that the honey mustard was unexpectedly cold in my mouth. The Mini Brat and Knockwurst was good too, really juicy and that distinct casing. I never had a German potato salad before, but I was kind of a fan of the sour kick! I like to check out local breweries whenever on the road and they have a dark beer. I got The Turbulator, a DoppelBock, but there's no way it in hell it has an 8.1 ABV. As we weren't really ready to eat, we did late afternoon appetizers My wife said their version of chicken noodle soup was really good. My stuffed mushrooms were inedible ... my wife, who loves them, even spit out the bite she took. REALLY NASTY. And while the server had nothing to do with the food, he could have at least acted like he wanted to be there. Adams Street is part of the historic Berghoff's Restaurant. They have been having their beer brewed by a contractor in Wisconsin for many years and have now come full circle, now brewing on site. If you like the the "taste" of their many offerings, this is the place for you. What a beautiful and amazing place! We had some of the best Czech and Austrian beer accompanied by delicious Bavarian food. The highlight of the visit, thought, was our service. Our waitress, Susan, was so kind, helpful, and patient as we browsed the menu with our kids. She was attentive, friendly, helpful and fun.
