We had the one major move of our lives after 33 years of living in our home. The bid was the lowest and the service offered seemed comparable but we had major issues. First, the resources for the move were underestimated and it took 3 days to pack our furniture. Second, upon delivering our furniture there were adequate resources but furniture and boxes were not placed as directed causing a great deal of confusion for us after they left and a lot of work for the two of us to move heavy boxes and furniture to the proper rooms. Third, and most disappointing, was the damage to our furnishings: a chip in a painted Demilune; a split post on our very expensive four poster bed; a piece broken off on a gate leg table; and damage to a chest of drawers. When we put in our claims we were told that they did not do the damage and it would not be covered. For a quality furniture repair expert these repairs would not have been expensive and could easily have been performed by Adco but they have not taken responsibility for their mistakes, a normal cost of doing business. Price matters but quality, integrity, and service matter more. read more

The actual moving crew and Jared were polite, responsive and did a good job. However, during the move 2 expensive items broke and they would not pay for their replacement, or any amount at all! They snapped the mast on an enormous sailboat replica and broke a beautiful Tiffany lamp in half. When I called to report the two items were broken right away, the woman was very understanding and sent a form and told us not to worry, we had a year to submit the claim. My husband and I remember this distinctly. When she sent the form I did not read all the fine print. Plus, it is a second home so we aren't there very often. When we finally got settled and I submitted the form, it had been nine months and three weeks. They asked me for photos of everything which I submitted. Then they told me because I was past the nine month mark, and it did say that on the form somewhere, they wouldn't cover any of it!! Very disappointed! : ( read more

I booked a cross-country move through United Van Lines and Adco was the local company handling the move on the Chicago side. Jared came out and quickly did an assessment of our belongings and provided a same-day estimate for our move. He was flexible when I needed to add a last minute separate shipment going in the opposite direction (moving furniture for relatives) and quickly took care of that aspect of our move. We had ADCO guys come the day before the moving truck to pack all of our fragile belongings (and take care of the other, smaller shipment) and they were very efficient. It's worth noting that they packed everything so well that nothing got broken in transit. Though we've left Chicago, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ADCO to friends. read more

We booked United Van Lines for our mid-country to Florida move. The initial quote was fair and binding and seemed to be in line with our final load weight/size. We got quotes from two other nationally known, interstate movers who appeared to have padded their quotes with over estimations. Each of the van lines otherwise offered comparable services. We were please with the ease and abundance of updates and communication both with the corporate regional office and the van driver himself. Everyone we dealt with (laborers, packers, office staff etc) operated in a professional manner and I always felt as though my belongings and home were being handled with care. I had bad experience with my move. I have to say the staff would came to pick up was okay but not very careful with the stuff. And did not wrap and secure them very well. Make sure to watch them as they work. 1 of the staff was taking a break. read more

I spoke to my contact at ADCO, Jackie, to see if she knew where I could take all the used boxes I had stacked up in my garage... She called the United agent in Vegas and they came out and took them all away, for free! I get my garage back and instead of clogging a landfill, my old boxes will go to another family to use in their move! read more

Every aspect of our move with ADCO from IL to SC was done with professionalism and excellence. Based on our experience, we believe that Brian the owner sets a positive tone and high expectations for his entire team. The communications throughout the entire process with Jackie, the estimate by Jared, and the packing, loading and unloading were all top notch. Our driver Brian (not the owner), his assistant Danny, and the entire crew who packed, loaded and unloaded were great people with whom to work. The worst experience! We still keep thinking we are being punked, but so far no cameras or big laughs. The movers used our items without permission. I actually saw one of the guys riding down the street on my husband's bike. The same guy told us he was underpaid. Another told us about his DUIs. They wanted us to sign documentation noting damage of our items AFTER they loaded the truck and drove it away, making it just a bit difficult to inspect. Our items arrived with damage as heavy items were packed with fragile pieces. We now have broken crystal, plates, glasses, figurines, etc. Furniture was also damaged. Paperwork was missing and so was our queen bed, 10 ft ladder and a couple smaller items. We did receive the bed the next day as it was delivered to the wrong place. We are STILL waiting for them to deliver the ladder. It's been about 2.5 months since the initial delivery. We were told they were too busy to bring it to us -- seriouslyl! As for the other items and damages -- no resolution there either. Just a lot of excuses. They've even attempted to blame us for their mistakes. Fortunately for us the documentation showed differently.. In speaking with our contact at ADCO today, he told me that he felt we were not waiting for anything - even after I reminded him about the repairs, ladder and claim check we are still waiting to receive. When I asked if he felt they deserved the money we paid, he said he does. " We are beyond disappointment. We know things happen, but certainly not this frequently and then for such little effort to be put forth to correct the problems is really just adding insult to injury. I should add that this company is affiliated with United. This may be the best example of the worst attitude toward customers ever. UPDATE 11/2/11 - We were told by UNITED corporate that they were working on our claim at the beginning of October and we'd soon see resolution. The corp contact seemed sympathetic and shocked by our situation. HOWEVER, it's now a month later we still have not heard from them. In addition, after my last conversation and immediately after I posted the initial review, the ADCO rep left me a voicemail saying they'd look at providing us with some type of refund for the awful service. He said he'd call the following week. He never called. It appears the issue may not just be a local one, corporate seems not to care to much about their customers either. read more

Would give ZERO stars if I could. AVOID this company, ADCO and United Van Lines, unless you enjoy seeing your items sitting on your front lawn, through rain and on wet grass for eight hours, and then having them literally tossed into the truck. That was our experience. The lead person on the move, Paul, was verbally abusive to his team (two young men whom he did not help at all and who should have had at least two other people helping them). The young men shared stories with us of how cruel he is to them and how much everyone hates him in the company. One quit THAT day. This same lead mover, Paul, made racist and xenophobic comments to us, and when he saw me talking to one of the younger movers, said to me, "you should not be speaking to him; speak only to me.". He also told us we could "help get stuff on the truck" if we wanted to see it go faster. I called the company in the midst of this and they sent their regional manager to us. He arrived and apologized but made the excuse to us of how Paul is "difficult sometimes and a little like Elon Musk". The regional manager then informed us of how they had no idea when our stuff would arrive because they had no driver for the truck to take our load cross country. Insult to injury for a $10,000 move, and no real apology. I moved for work (from University of Chicago to an east coast school) and I have told everyone there to NEVER use ADCO or United Van Lines. For the damages incurred, we were given a whole $800. I've moved many, many times and I've never seen anything this awful. read more

We recently moved using ADCO and were very pleased with the service. The crew was prompt in arrival and quick with loading and unloading the truck. They were patient as we decided where to put things in the new house and there was no damage to any of our pieces or either home. I moved from Chicago to Anchorage, AK. My last experience with a moving company many years ago was extremely negative so I dreaded doing it again. I reviewed many moving companies online, reading reviews, etc. I contacted Adco Van & Storage from a recommendation of a friend who owns a logistics business. I was skeptical to say the least but they surprised me with superior service, and my belongings arrived about 2 weeks earlier than I had anticipated. They gave me the worst case scenario so I was very pleasantly surprised. I had no damage to anything. The movers who packed my stuff as well as the ones who unpacked were all excellent. I checked out a few of the "pack it yourself" companies and after reading reviews decided to give Adco a chance. I made a great decision.
