Had a very unpleasant experience with this company. When we first reached out we got an initial quote which was competitive and the owner Vicki seemed pleasant enough. She asked for us to send an email with an inventory list of all our items. We did that but never heard back, didn't think much of it. The day before our scheduled moved we FaceTimed so she could see our place, she said that this was way more than we had discussed, she would need to send an extra guy and another truck. We asked if this was a job she could handle esp since she kept mentioning they had another job the day of our move. She reassured us they could do it. Come the day of the move, the guys were working hard but it was definitely taking a lot longer than we had anticipated. When it came to unloading everything at our new place. We told the movers they would not be able to park on our driveway as fresh asphalt had just been laid. Vicki called us and told us we did not give her correct information and since there was no driveway and it was going to affect them getting to their second job, she would need to send 2 more guys and our rate would now be an additional $100/hr. Not only was this not what we agreed upon, she started berating my husband for not sending over the full inventory list and withholding information. She took no ownership of her part in the situation - not reading the email in its entirety which led to poor planning and scrambling to get more resources for our move and instead chose to blame us for delaying another family's move. She ended the call by telling us to "have our conscience tell us what to do." Ultimately they did not charge us for the additional guy that was sent. Our issue is with their management and the level of unprofessionalism. The guys did damage our drywall leaving a quarter size hole and others scuffs on the walls, Vicki said she would send someone to come out and repair it. So far the guy never showed up at the appointed time, and Vicki has yet to respond to our messages. TLDR go with a bigger more reputable company even if the cost is a bit higher to save yourself the stress and frustration. read more

I recently utilized university movers for a local move (25-30 mile). They are a family owned business. Vicky was easy to communicate with. The day of the big move 1 of the movers called in sick causing our move to be delayed by 2 hours, however, thankfully they were able to find someone else to help instead. Tis the season for the flu so I completely understand. Our move took about 4 hours total with 3 guys. I'm very surprised and extremely grateful that all of our items got to our new home in 1 piece! I anticipated some plates, glasses to be broken due to how I packed, lol, but noooope! All good and safely unpacked. They covered our mattress and my office desk to make sure nothing got damaged. We left our previous home without any damage to the walls and the same thing at our new home. They also place all items in the specified room which made it that much easier for my husband and I to unpack. They were very careful and did a great job! Pricing is fair and there was not an up charge for moving on a weekend. Tip - pay with Zelle, Venmo or cash to avoid a CC fee. Also, be sure to tip your movers!! The tip is not included in their pricing so tip them directly with cash. This is a hard job and it is well deserved. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. They told us they would wrap all furniture, they did not. Most of the furniture is damaged, some beyond use. The mattresses have puncture holes, wood furniture is chipped. My desk and an end table are cracked and cannot be repaired. They put fragile boxes on the bottom with heavy boxes on top. The boxes are smashed and there is damage to the items inside. We called and they said they are not responsible and it is our problem. Very unprofessional. The movers were friendly and efficient, but obviously did not care about making sure they did a good job. read more

I had several pinball and arcade machines located in my garage that I needed moved down into my basement as well as several other heavy pieces of furniture that I just couldn't safely get into my home without help. Their crew did a phenomenal job of moving my games down into the basement with no damage to any of the pins. They were able to place them exactly where I needed and even helped me get my old CRT television set that I use for retro-gaming downstairs with way less struggle had I done it by myself. I was referred to University Movers thru a local Facebook group. I contacted Vicki and I have to say it was the absolute best thing I did. I had a 4 man crew that completed my move in a little over 3 hours and I was absolutely amazed at the care they took of my personal belongings. They wrapped everything, covered floors and everyone was super friendly. I very highly recommend them to everyone. When and if I move again they will be the only call I make. We have used University Movers for two moves now. Our first move with them was not perfect, but it was a better experience than our second move. When you call, Vicki is very responsive and kind. She calls the day before to confirm your move also. I explained that we used them to move into our storage units and now wanted our stuff moved to our new home. I explained that we had three 10 by 10 by 10 units. One of them was about half full and the others were more like 3/4 full. Full, but not stuffed packed as we had already pulled some things from each unit. They also ask you to go through and inventory everything big in the units. I was very clear we had very few boxes but we had all of our big furniture and random stuff (bbq grill, fire pit, work out stuff, random shelves, etc.). This was where the professionalism ended with this experience. 1. On the day of the move, they were supposed to arrive at our storage units at 8:30, but didn't come until just after 9. 2. The guys who arrived immediately complained about any/everything. They actually complained about the way the units were packed (this was actually funny, because that was my problem with them when we moved into the units. They put stuff in so weird because they were tired and annoyed and wanted us to get another unit because they didn't load the back of the units well). They also complained about the way our furniture was wrapped up. They asked a few times who wrapped it and put it in like that, and we told them it was, in fact, their company. 3. The lead guy for the day had cut his finger prior to arriving and complained about how much pain he was in and that his finger was bleeding too much. One of the other guys came to the house and immediately asked me for Tylenol or Motrin because he was sick. He said he had the flu or something and his head hurt so much he needed something to help him make it. The interesting thing is that when you book the move they tell you that if anyone in the house is sick, you must call to reschedule. 4. They complained about the truck being too small, the furniture all being too big and heavy, and they complained about things having to be taken down to the basement. They walked in, looked at the stairs, and instantly said that our desk is not going down the stairs. (Our stairs are a straight shot down to the basement. They are a normal set of stairs with a half wall in our dining area and a full wall on the other side.). We had to inform them that the desk has been moved three times prior to this. It was actually on the top floor of a three story townhouse at one point. Their response was, "Well, I'm glad it wasn't us who had to move that because we wouldn't have." Also, the desk fit down the stairs with absolutely no issue. 5. The guys (plural, yes) used our bathroom... to poop. I normally would not care at all, but that evening I had to clean their poop off of the toilet and toilet seat. Like cool, poop away, but wipe it up if you can't hit the inside of the toilet bowl. 6. Honestly, they could have probably pooped when they stopped between the storage unit and our house. The drive is 53-55 minutes but it took them 1 hour and 30 minutes. I realize they have a truck, so it takes a little longer. Even with a truck it doesn't take an extra half + to make the drive. 7. Right after they left, I got a message with pictures from our storage place that said one of the guys left garbage and I needed to come handle it. Apparently, one of the guys left some bag of something around a corner in the storage common area. He also smoked 8 cigarettes and left the butts on the ground. I started on my way over to clean up what was there. I called Vicki on the way to explain the situation. She offered to have them go clean it up, but the facility is secure and a code is needed to get in. It was a 55 minute drive for me and when I was 10 minutes from the place she let me know the guy went back to clean it up. Apparently he broke in to do so??? Either way, I was already nearly there and instead of unpacking spent two hours going back there to handle it. Basically, moving is stressful. You should hire movers to help alleviate the stress. Instead of alleviating the stress, they made it much, much worse. For this reason, I would not recommend this moving company to anyone. read more

We had issues with how the crew packed the truck. Upon arrival of our long distance move we contacted Vicki. She was not pleasant on the phone. We took pictures and detailed email to find out how to submit a claim. They never responded. A follow-up email was sent and never responded. Letter was physically mailed with no response. Poor customer service and poor packing for long distance moves. Would never recommend for long distance move. They have no idea what they are doing and will not give you the information to file claims if damage. read more

I could not believe how careful and knowledgeable they were in moving a piano. I had them move a piano from my father's house to my house. When I called and talked to Vicki, she answered all my questions plus we had a freezer that had to be plugged in for two days, and she said they would plug in the freezer at their office to accommodate us. I hate moving. We all do. But I've had to move about every 2 years for the past 18 years, and if there's one thing I've learned in that time, it's that movers are totally worth the money you pay them! But bad movers can make a nightmare out of an already stressful day. So I came to Yelp to check out the reviews of movers in the area. I called 2 companies to compare estimates and my experience with each was completely different. I spoke with Vicki at University Movers, and she was very friendly, but also efficient - quickly asking me questions about my house, my furniture, the distance between the old place and the new place, etc. She gave me an estimate over the phone based on estimated hours and travel, what it would include, and let me know they were available on the date I requested. The other company called me (Two Men and a Truck), and the guy was not especially friendly over the phone. He asked me about 2 questions - how many bedrooms and the distance between the old place and new place. Instead of an estimate based on hourly rate, he said the rate would be based on weight. (As a customer, I can verify how long a move takes once it's been completed. I have no way of knowing how much all of my belongings weigh, which means you really have to hope the movers are being honest about the weight.) The estimate from Two Men and a Truck was over 70% higher than the estimate I got from University Movers. I have no idea if it would have actually been that high, but I called Vicki back and scheduled my move. Moving day came, and Fred and his team showed up right on time, quickly took stock of what we had to move, and began loading the truck. They were friendly, hard-working, and very careful with all of our belongings. (I know it's normal to have a few belongings dinged during a move, but we didn't notice any problems at all this time - everything arrived in the condition that it left!) They also finished in exactly 1 hour less than was estimated, which saved me even more money. In short, I definitely recommend University Movers and I'll be using them again in the future the next time I move. read more

I wish I could say my 2nd experience was a good one. I cannot at all. I was told my movers would arrive between 9 - 11am. Here's what went wrong: 1. I called at 11 when the movers had not arrived and was told I asked for 11- 1. I had asked for the earliest one because I had friends coming at 1 to help unpack. 2. I received a call at 1 that said the movers were running late. The new estimated arrival time was 3pm. 3. When I asked for a discount I was told they couldn't do anything for because they normally don't take city moves. I was then told they would lose money and not be able to pay their employees if I was given any type of discount. I explained that it wasn't my fault they ok'd my move. When I was told they don't normally do city moves because of distance I simply explained they should have said no and I would have found a different company. Which I will next time. 4. At 4pm I began making call university movers to which there were ring cut offs. Meaning I called and after 1 1/2 rings, it'd go to voice mail. I must have called a dozen times because I was in an obvious panic. 5. At 4:30 I started calling other movers, frantic that university wouldn't show up. 6. 5:05pm, after approximately 60 minutes of crying, they show up. The owner, his son, and one other employee. No apologies. I was even told by the owners son not to say anything to his dad b e cause he was in a bad mood .. they complained about no space to park, even though I had reserved parking at both the old and new apartment for 8pm -4 pm. I had gotten signs from my alderman's office 2 days before. 6. The owners son took frequent breaks once they arrived at the new apartment. 2 or 3 of them included cigarettes. Not professional at all and Gatorade to which he left sitting in the alley. I was then charged $100+ over the estimate. I handed them my credit card (of which was on file at their office) and told they don't take cards, just cash or check. Never again with them. Never. Next time I'd rather pay true professionals who are friendly, arrive on time, don't take breaks ON MY TIME, and whom I don't hear mocking my furniture and how it's "crap that needs to be thrown out." That was the icing on the cake when they referenced the bookshelf my dad and I built together before he passed away. read more

This is a perfect example of, "You get what you pay for." Found this mover who, pricewise was less than most. The crew of three consisted of a foreman and two helpers. One of which was not capable of keeping up with the pace of the move. In a short period of time he was exhausted and fighting to find the energy to keep pace. I mention this because at the destination, this individual had an accident. After surveying the rooms, and making no mention of obstacles needing relocation, they commenced the move. In one bedroom I had two dresser drawers stacked along the wall out of their way. They were negotiating a dresser around a bed frame they placed prior, and this mover snagged the frame and went down on top of the drawers, demolishing one. They did not trip on the drawers. He tripped on the frame, lost his balance and fell onto the drawers. I have since gone back and forth with the owner for repair or replacement. They chose repair. After two months, I picked up my drawer, still unusable and unrepaired. In fact this place won't even live up to the contract of $.30 per pound of the dresser as reimbursement. Please take this advise and use Drieske ( whom I used before and was very satisfied) and pay a little extra for a professional job. Work with a company who offers, for a charge and upgrade in insurance to cover the cost of damage. The worst customer service ever! Apparently for many other past users of the company this nasty treatment toward customers is their norm. read more

In August, 2021, I needed to move my mom from a studio apartment to an income restricted, senior community. I called University Movers and spoke with Vicki to set up an appointment for an estimate. She was friendly and helpful, and gave me an overall good feeling from the start. During the scheduled appointment, Fred arrived early and evaluated the apartment size and load to be moved, the driving distance, and probable time involved. Part of the distance required driving to my house (a mile away) to drop off a patio table and chair, and to pick up more furniture for my mother's new apartment. I was considering using the packing service offered by University Movers, but to save more money, my mother and I packed her boxes. On moving day, Mike and Tyler arrived early and took great care while lifting, hauling, and delivering my mother's belongings. They were respectful of my mother, her things, and the senior community. They were conscientious when stacking her boxes so the boxes did not touch the walls. Overall, their demeanor helped ease my mother's stress of the new change in her life. In the end, my mom paid Mike and Tyler a reasonable price. And, on their departure Mike and Tyler were nice to drive back to my house and drop off the patio table and chair I had forgotten about without any additional charge. I recommend this moving company to my family and friends, and will keep them in mind if I need to move in the future. We moved a year ago into our rental house and the movers we decided on were University Movers. These guys showed up right on time and were ready to work. They did a wonderful quick move and unloaded us perfectly into our new home. Price was right and we were very satisfied. Well...here we are a year later and we are moving AGAIN...sigh....so guess who we are going to call for our move? Yep! Huge life lesson here...you absolutely get what you pay for! Using this company was a huge mistake. The movers damaged or broke several pieces of my furniture costing me over $2000 in repairs. The customer service was absolutely horrible. After the first piece of furniture was broken I spoke to the owner, Vicki. She told me she was out of town and would contact her insurance company when she got back. Initially she was nice, but, things rapidly took a turn. Piece after piece of my furniture came into my new place damaged. I decided that if I paid the delivery men at the end of the move I would have no recourse. I called the owner and told her that I would pay her when I was in contact with her insurance company, when she was back in town. She immediately became very aggressive, telling me, "I get paid now. You do not want to play these games with me or you will get nothing" She then threatened to call the police. After telling her to go ahead and call the police I hung up on her and she immediately called her driver. He was standing in my living room arguing with her, swearing back and forward. She told him to take my furniture. He told her," I told you before Im not doing this shit for you guys" He got off the phone with her and told me either you pay me now or Im taking all the damaged furniture. I told him to get out of my house and then proceeded to call 911. In the mean time he took one of my pieces of furniture...I could go on and on but the end result was that through the advice of an attorney I sent a check for half of the amount of the move with specific language in the memo section that made it clear that by cashing the check she was accepting it as payment in full, because, unfortunately, in a court of law a signed contract would have been in the companies favor regardless of the condition of my belongings... read more

I thought I was hiring a good company. Instead I got a Company name and three movers. First I asked if I should empty the dresser's. They said not needed. They covered the dresser's and wrapped them. Then turned them UPSIDE DOWN and carried them out.. really.. UPSIDE DOWN. Now I have things in the back of the dresser that I have to struggle to get out because the drawers are not removable.. they were unorganized in keeping everything thing together that was to stay together. Now I am missing a piece of my bed that is going to cost me to replace. They said I carried it into the house.. ya ok.. I was told it would take about 4 hours to load and unload.. try almost 8 hours. At 145.00 a hour that is a BIG DIFFERENCE.. not to mention the couple of things that they damaged during the move.. a couple of holes in the plaster walls. And a good chunk out of the basement door that they never mentioned. It is a new house. It wasn't there before... All I am saying is I will look elsewhere to find someone to move me next time.. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! They destroyed a ton of my belongings. This business is owned by a husband and wife & clearly run a shady business. The husband, their son, and 2 other men showed up for the move. They were disgusting, dirtied up my entire house the day before I had a final walk through for the buyers. The wife came out to my house to clean up their mess after I called her about the mess. We were moving our belongings into a storage unit. I had to call her again because they were having snowball fights, constant cigarette breaks, and my matress cover was never put on when they loaded it into the truck. She called her husband and they were in a screaming match at the storage unit. They handled the whole situation extremely unprofessional and trashy. When we unpacked a yr later we found our brand new leather couch scuffed up all over it, our canopy bed top, also brand new, completely ruined. Our china hutch base legs were broken off. The matress cover which they said they would put on at the unit after complaining once, NEVER put on and my new matress was filthy from their dirty, cigarette smoke hands & and the fabric water protector was ripped. Missing items...the list goes on. I called Vicky right then and there & she said she'd look up my file and call me back. Again, shocking, never heard from her. After calling & calling, her husband Fred called back & went off on my husband. Then said to submit a claim to their insurance. We got a list together, personally dropped it off to them & shocking, never heard from them and won't return our calls. I had countless people at the storage unit, including the managers coming up to me asking who these people were to make sure they NEVER used or recommended them to anyone. read more

I have used University Movers on three different moves. Vicky, Fred and his Son Mike along with the entire crew were extremely professional. The entire crew worked hard to meet our needs and exceeded them. If you need a quality move at great prices this is the company for you. I have paid hundreds more from a big name mover and it was the worst move with the most extreme damage. I researched movers and saw all the positive things that we said about this company and called them up the price was 1000.00 less then everyone else and things that the other companies charged extra for were included. Then the day of my move came and they showed up on time and very professional but what really impressed me was the owner Fred was working right next to his workers now people you tell me what owner that you know is out there moving furniture with his workers I have read some of the comments LIke from Jill M saying that they destroyed her belongs and that it is a shady run business not sure what that is all about but if you read all the other comments they are all positive maybe Jill was just looking for something for nothing read more

I hired University Movers for my recent move from a 3rd floor condo to a two story townhouse. They did a fantastic job! Nothing was broken and no walls were damaged. They were very patient, friendly and helpful. They moved quickly and placed everything where it belong in the new home. The price was realistic with no hidden costs (shrink wrap, truck fees etc...), they even have wardrobe box to use at no additional charge.
