Bread! There are TWO Addeo bakeries near each other. One does the primary baking and both sell the product. When walking down the street a few doors down saw a bigger brightly lit bakery with pale bread. Couldn't gel the image with the belief super Italian bread was near on this street. Then I saw Addeo's window. Farrrrr fewer yelp reviews. But one look and I knew Addeo was the place for bread. Large dark and seedy please. Three!! They wrapped them in white paper with string. One for my best friend in the car. One for my mother. Alas one for me. On a quiet day like this it almost feels like I should be driving there for bread. But it would be a long drive. Addeo's feels like you just stepped in a Lower East Side Bread Bakery circa 1946. We know of one other Bakery (I'm sure there are others), but when we come to Little Italy, Addeo's has always been it. Forget about their style- because there's really nothing fancy about it. But what speaks volumes- are their Breads. You got like the Rustic (Sourdough) type Breads and a whole bunch of Loaves, plus little Crostini types (think they're sold by the pound- ask anyway). Picked out 3 Italian Loaves- and one of those, with Sesame Seeds. Other things to remember: CA$H accepted only. Also important to note- Addeo's has a menu rundown of those Breads made with lard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and if you're still dazed and confused- but also alert like I always am...ask which ones. We had a hoot though with one of the adorable ladies who helped us on a super early Saturday morning with reasonably priced, non-lard Italian loaves in hand. read more

As old school as you can get! This is one of those bakeries that do it right. They don't have much other than freshly baked bread and that is all they need. The bread with seeds on them is my favorite. They also have little loaves of olive bread which is a popular choice. This place looks like it has been there forever and I understand why. Racist but at least the bread tasted good. I entered the shop and 3 ladies were in there. They were rude and dismissive and rushed me out of the store. They were counting money, and as soon as I walked in a lady rushed to lock the door until I finished shopping. All I wanted was some fresh bread. When I was about to leave, they started throwing the bread that was on display all in a shopping cart, no bags or anything to protect them. Simply put, Addeo's is one of the finest bread bakeries in NYC. On par with places like Il Fornaretto and Royal Crown in Brooklyn. Caputo's on Court, which one reviewer below mentioned, is good but overrated based on location; if you disagree, then stick to cozy little Carroll Gardens and leave places like Addeo's to the people with taste buds. They own this shop, as well as a store front on Arthur Ave. I recommend coming to this location instead, as it's the original and they typically are better stocked. While they offer all kinds of different varieties and shapes of breads, I just go with an Italian baguette with sesame seeds. Crisp and crusty on the outside and moist and soft on the inside with awesome fresh flavor, it's what Italian bread is supposed to be. Their bread sticks are also great. Its all good enough that I try to go only to restaurants nearby that stock their bread! If you're on Arthur Avenue, this is a must visit. If you're not on Arthur Avenue, get your ass up here so you can get some of this! read more

THE BEST OF THE BEST. I bought half a ring of some sort of very delicious bread with bits of ham in it. I also bought one loaf of chocolate bread and half a loaf of whole wheat bread. 20hrs later, only half the loaf of chocolate bread remain. The bread is just amazing. Very soft on the inside and tasty. The owners are very passionate at what they do. Perhaps this panache is kneaded into the the exceptional quality and flavor of their products. If I didn't live in Manhattan, I would come here everyday. I wish there were some sort of big bakery store in Manhattan that brought together all the delicious bread and pastries from the borough - kind of like the farmer's market, a baker's market instead. read more

Small bakery in the Bronx. We read reviews for the bakeries in the area and it seemed like this might be the best one to pick up some bread for dinner. My inlaws love fresh bread and cheese and I knew they would appreciate good fresh baked bread. When you look in the window you see a bunch of different loaves of bread. It makes it hard to choose. We went with three. They are all so delicious. Like seriously some of the best bread I have ever eaten. I wasn't alone, my wife's whole family loved this bread and raved about it. I have only eaten them with butter but I intend on making garlic bread with one loaf and grilled cheeses and French toast tomorrow with the leftover bread. The lady working inside was super nice. I asked her for a recommendation and she showed me what most people buy there. It was one of the three that I was selecting. This place is a must if you are in the area and are looking for killer Italian bread. All three loaves cost $10 which was totally worth it. The loaves of bread are really big. When I called her yet again on it she had a bit too much attitude for me. I'm realistic in that we don't always know how our food is handled, but if you are showing me that food sanitation means little to you, I'd be a fool to eat from you. I was in the Bronx yesterday with my mom and her friends for their annual Christmas dinner (they all grew up around Arthur Avenue). We had some time to kill before dinner so I went on a little shopping trip around the neighborhood with some of the ladies. The customer service here is amazing, the ladies were so friendly, I got a loaf of the sausage bread for my dad and he said it was great.
