I came here after a friend recommended it to me. Jason did my piercings and he did a great job. One was a Tragus and the other was a correction on my lobe. One of my piercings on my lobe was significantly lower than its partner and it really bothered me. Jason was super helpful in letting me know that I couldn't do a piecing directly north because overtime it would probably connect to my old piecing. Instead he recommend I get it done slightly north and back from the original. Unless you're really looking at my ear you can't tell that it's slightly closely to my second lobe piercing. Glad he was honest with me and gave me a good piercing. Overall the whole experience was professional. I would definitely come back for another piercing with Jason. read more

Went in for an industrial, $45. Piercer's name is Itza. Got it done in August 2010 and it's healed up well since. She makes sure you know what's going on, how she plans to do it, etc. She leaves you with good care instructions too. No attitude. Prices are average. The piercing room is rundown and small. But it's in St. Marks---you can't really expect some upscale piercing studio unless you're paying through the nose. read more

All places in the city are just so overpriced and all compete with each other but there are never really great offers that stand out! When I first got this groupon I had met Sophia and from then on I've been going to her! She is amazing and so talented. She created a one of a kind mandala for me with awesome dot work. She also did a finger tattoo for me. Before doing it she did remind me of the risks of getting a spot like my cuticle tattooed and I was very aware of it. I got an anchor/starfish tattoo on my foot on my birthday recently (10/10). I had went in 2 weeks in advance to speak with someone about it since this was my first tattoo and I have no design in mind and was quite nervous. Angela was the one who I spoke with and she was very nice and we connected right after we found out we share the same birthday. Unfortunately she won't be able to do my design since she's taking a day off on her birthday but she recommended me to her co-worker and promised I'll get a good discount since it's my birthday. One the day of, I arrived a bit early and Nick was busy with a customer. However, he quickly greeted me and wished me a Happy Birthday before I said anything. He was very patient with me and worked on the design with me until I was satisfied. After we decided on the design, he told me it will be $150 - a good price considering it was suppose to be $180 and with coloring. I had a whole posse with me (around 6 people) and the store was very accommodating and Nick was very patient with me during the whole process. I wasn't sure on where I wanted the design - either on the foot or by the ankle and he put the stencil on both areas to help me better decide. During the process, he noticed my pain but he would soothe me and tell me it'll be better soon. I'm really glad I did it at Addiction. I don't have any problems and while it's still scabbing (it has only been 2 weeks) - I don't have any infections and it is healing nicely. I will definitely recommend this place. read more

This was the most traumatizing experience. I don't remember the last time I was treated so poorly. It's like this guy never learned the meaning of "customer service." My friend and I came in on a slow and rainy evening to inquire about tattoo pricing. He proceeded to attack - ahem, I mean lecture - us about ignorant, bright eyed, bushy tailed individuals like ourselves who have come in before to ask if there's a minimum and if there are ever exceptions made. (It's important to note my friend and I were looking for 3 lines to be placed on a third of our fingers. Went here on a random night a week ago just walking through St. Mark's. I wasn't expecting to actually get a tattoo but the tattoo artist Chris completely convinced me! I got a sunflower tattoo on my shoulder and let me tell you, he captured it perfectly. Granted it was something simple but his vision made it more than I pictured myself. I've got 12 piercings in my ears (including 7/16 plugs), a tiny hoop in my nose, a Monroe above my lip, both nipples pierced, and a VCH. So when I found out I needed to get an MRI last week, I wandered over to St. Marks to see if I could some help preparing. When I got there, the dude behind the counter didn't even look up to speak to me. He just hollered for the piercer when I told him I needed some help with a few of my piercings. A few minutes later when I was talking to the piercer, these two hipster girls came in, giggling and carrying on. Both guys changed instantly; they were nice and answered all their questions, whereas I was told to "wait a sec" while he helped the two millenials. After the two girls left and the piercer gave me his attention again, I broke it down for him. 1. I needed the captive bead on Monroe loosened since I've never taken it out before. That's all. Just loosen it for me so I can take it off when I go to get the MRI. 2. Since I had a piercer offer to put the hoop in my nose over 5 years ago, I thought I would also need help taking it out. Instead of showing me how to take it out on my own, the piercer laughed at me and asked if I needed help taking out my earrings too. Seriously, guy? I have 17 piercings and 10 tattoos; don't treat me like some dumb little girl who doesn't know what body mod is. Anyway, after I gave him my best 'go f*** yourself' look, he offered a solution: He could sell me a retainer for 10 bucks and put it in for another 10 bucks. It wasn't until I already paid that the piercer told me I could take it out on my own. So he mocked me then made 20 bucks off my ignorance. Nice guy. 3. I've had my VCH for 8 years now and I've never taken the jewelry out before. The piercer sold me another retainer for 20 bucks and charged me another 10 bucks for putting it in. I will say that the piercer was very professional when I dropped trow and showed him my precious. But I'm pretty sure he used a 16 gauge retainer instead of a 14. Because after just 24 hours, I made the horrifying discovery that the retainer was gone. I have no idea how or when it went missing, so I went into panic mode and assumed it had to have closed up by now. But I gave it a shot anyway. I cleaned the tiny barbell the piercer took out the day before and tried to put it back in myself. It slid in with ease and I thanked the piercing gods that it hadn't closed up. So, all in all, this adventure cost 50 bucks, and it was a complete waste of time and money. I had the MRI yesterday and I took all my piercings out/put them back in without a problem. (Though I did spend a solid 30 minutes behind a cloth curtain, cussing at my lady parts as I tried to screw in a captive bead.) This experience was enough to convince me to take my business elsewhere. I'm sick of the snobby establishments on St. Marks. When you're a tattoo artist or a piercer, people inherently trust you. So act like you're worthy of that trust and treat your customers with some damn respect. read more

It's been a little less than a year since I got my tattoo from Addiction and it's already fading!! WTF! My tattoo healed well, and it looked great, but I looked at it the other day and it's fading in 3 sections. I did some research on why it would fade so quickly and here's what I found: "Tattoos performed by inexperienced tattooists often fade because they are either not done deeply enough and the color leaches away, or too deeply which causes scar tissue and excess scabbing." I remember this tattoo didn't hurt as much as my other tattoo so I'm pretty sure he didn't apply the ink deep enough. Now I have to spend the extra dollars to get it touched up. Damn it. I STILL LOVE NEW YORK!! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. Although Addiction may not seem like much from the outside, inside it is kept clean and bright. The piercing room is tiny but clean and all the tools are sterilized in front of you. Process is simple: fill out paperwork, get receipt, pay at the front, get receipt stamped and head back to the room to do your thang. I came here to get a conch piercing and it was done easily and superbly by Austin. He was cool when I wanted it at a different spot on my ear from where he marked it several times. I couldn't give this place 5 stars because I waited for a good 15mins for Austin to show up. Although I was in no rush, I was just told to go the back room, ask for Austin and wait til he got back. I was given no indication how long that wait would be. Overall though, I'm delighted with my piercing that was done by Austin! read more

Terrible Groupon Deal!!! The lady Sophia was terrible. She lied about how long it would take to draw a tattoo up ( 1 hour to draw is what she said). She wanted to use the time to draw a whole hour for a writing I already had. She asked a friend to make sure everything was spelled right in Arabic but I didn't have a whole book written out! She told me my tattoo would take 3 hours which included the drawing and consultation which we never got. I included a picture of my tattoo. Don't put up a group for a deal if you don't want to do what the deals says or short change. Since she wanted to short change she got no tip. I only tip good work. She also walked away from doing my tattoo without saying anything and came back. I think that was to waste time to make it seem like it would take 3 hours. I came with my friend and I would suggest not to buy this groupon. I used a tattoo groupon before at Kartel studio and the guy was great! My friend and I both came here and we both hates it and I'm sure she will write her own review. Sophia is a Scam artist. We watched other artist do plenty of tattoos bigger than mine and people come and went and she was wasting time talking to other customers while "timing" how long we were there. I can't even give Addiction NYC a proper review because they sent me over to Elite for my ear piercing - apparently the piercer for Elite is that of Addiction's as well. The cashier/person at the front was nice, but a little intense and the building itself looked slighy raunchy. However, $25 for 1 lobe piercing, or $45 for both was lower priced than Andromeda and all those other places around St. Marks. This is cheaper than Elite's prices (they use some special studs or something) and you still get to go across the street for your piercing. Because I have to combine the Elite/Addiction experience, Addiction gets 4 stars. read more

This may be my inexperience rather than the fault of Addiction, but I got some ear piercings here a few years ago. I got there in total -- a second cartilage piercing, and earlobes. The woman was professional and quick, and the experience as a whole was fine. I asked about the kind of jewelry they used, and she reassured me they used high quality jewelry with trace amounts of nickle. Turns out I have a nickle allergy that caused reactions on my neck, which only went away after I removed the 3 ear piercings a few months later. Those piercings have now closed. I'm contemplating getting them re-done, but I'd go somewhere else where they only use stainless steel jewelry for piercings. read more

Got my cartilage pierced here a few days ago and my ear is still fully intact. Boyz get at me(?) Mykal did an awesome job! I was pretty worried because my friend's piercing was really painful for a couple of months. Aside from some minor pain from the needle (expected), my piercing is not bothersome at all. This must mean that I'm one brolic bitch with a superhuman threshold for pain... Probably not. But A++ for no swelling, redness or aching from the piercing. I really wish I came here to get my nose pierced instead of some seedy jewelry store in Jackson Heights. (thanks for that one, mom!!) Deep seated familial issues aside, I am definitely recommending this place to all to my friends. On top of that, Mykal did not give me any attitude for not buying the spray solution, but instead explained how keep my piercing clean with antibacterial soap. Lovely! My only gripe was sitting around for close to half an hour and repeatedly being told "Just wait for Mykal" and not being given any specific wait time. A few years ago a friend and I were on a 'rebellion spree' so we decided on a whim that I was going to get my nose pierced, and he was to get his first tattoo. We shopped around St. Marks and ran into a lot of clowns charging big bucks that didn't have time to talk to us about procedure, needles, care, jewelry, metal sensitivity etc.. until we walked into Addiction. The staff was soooo nice and accommodating. You always feel good giving your money to people who make the extra effort and are super professional. THIS REVIEW APPLIES FOR PIERCING ONLY: I went here with my friend one month ago. We were both lured there by the good reviews of the place and the pricing of the piercings. I was immediately put off by the piercer, Rob. He was extremely unprofessional to begin with. He took more interest in complaining about his job to his friend at the counter than us, even though we were the only people in the store at the moment. I should have walked out then, but I decided that everyone has a bad day and I shouldn't judge him at first glance. The piercing itself was simple and to the point. The room was dingy, but as long as the tools are hygienic I don't care. We were charged by about $40 dollars more than the price on the webpage. That's fine, whatever. We took our new piercings, tipped the piercer and went home. Fast forward 2 weeks. The snakebite piercings that Rob put on were too small and as my mouth swelled, they started to dig into the inside of my mouth. I immediately went to him and asked for longer bars. This was the mistake for an inept beginner. But no, it gets worse. He assured me they would be fine and it was normal for them to swell around the back of my piercing. I was skeptical but I put my belief in the professional. My lip's swelling went up and down sporadically. Fast forward to yesterday. I woke up to find that during the night- the inside of my mouth had swallowed my piercing. I went BACK to Addiction to see Rob and ask him to help me remove it. He wasn't there. His co-workers, his boss and even I tried to contact him, for any sort of consultation. His co-worker, a tattoo artist, then proceeded to try and fix the piercing himself, giggling it around inside my mouth, causing it to swell even more. Then he gave me the jewelry I SHOULD have had in my mouth and CHARGED me for it. What am I supposed to do with it, huh?? Look at it sadly, wishing it was in my mouth? TODAY, because I have NO insurance, I went to a walk-in clinic, where they surgically removed my piercing. It cost me way more than the piercing, I assure you. Ladies and Gentlemen, this piercer is INEPT. If he had given me longer bars to begin with, or even longer bars when I went BACK, this entire thing could have been AVOIDED. DON'T GO HERE FOR PIERCING. He had not one, but THREE chances to give me the CORRECT piercing and I could have avoided surgery! There are dozens of other places to go to at St. Marks. DON'T GO HERE. FINALLY! It's about time I recall where I received my two small tattoos; therefore I am finally able to yelp about it! At first I didn't realize this fine establishment had a tattoo parlor till I walked all the way back. Everyone there is super friendly and really helpful with any questions or concerns. Since I walked in with an idea, it was pretty easy talking with Daniel about bringing my idea to life and I knew he was the man for the job. Daniel definitely took his time talking with me about placement ideas and color thoughts. I selected a light ink since I placed the tattoos on my left wrist and he was able to mix a good color and test it on my skin prior to tattooing. I have to say, it was slightly painful! Thank god Daniel is nice on the eyes! :) I absolutely appreciated and loved the fact that the establishment is EXTREMELY clean. They definitely take sanitary precautions and take their work seriously. I never once felt like they were NOT sanitary. About 20 minutes later and a little over $60, my tattoos came to life! After Daniel explained how to go about caring for it, he invited me back if I wanted the tattoo darker. Which, two weeks later, I did. And, there was no extra charge! If you are looking to do any tattoo work (either a personal piece you drew or something selected from the books) I HIGHLY recommend this place. Ask for Daniel - he is awesome. read more

I finally took out my corset piercing 1 years and 8 months later. I could have kept it, but it took waay too much effort to take care of and it got in the way of a lot of my favorite activities. Now I have 16 gorgeous symmetrical scars left as little reminders. It was a glamorous and fun year and 8 months, and I would definitely come back to here to re-pierce my back in the future! P.S. I came here to get a septum piercing, which cost $45. The service wasn't great at all, but what was most upsetting was that after the piercing was over, I looked in the mirror and saw that I had a retainer instead of a nose ring. So it doesn't even look like I got a piercing at all. She told me to keep the retainer in for 2 months and then I can switch it out for a nose ring. She knew it was my first time getting a septum piercing, but never told me that I was getting a retainer and not a ring until after it was complete. Anyone I know of with the piercing had a ring immediately, so it was not what I was expecting at all. I didn't say anything about it because I was so surprised and not sure what to think. The piercer had an attitude and was very stand-offish so I did not feel comfortable. I feel so stupid for having paid for this and I don't have a nose ring in my septum. Now I am going to have to go somewhere else to buy a ring and have a professional there replace it. I really wish I had gone somewhere else that would have gotten the job done right in the first place. They sell aftercare spray separately, so the ring and aftercare was not covered by the $45, which is pretty ridiculous. On top of not having a nose ring, the service was pretty terrible. Our receptionist served us from outside while he smoked a cigarette and yelled through the door. Then he sent me back to the tattoo studio where I talked to the piercer, she took my information, and sent me back out to the receptionist to pay, who was still outside on his smoke break. The piercer was quick, almost too quick. I had to clarify with her whether she was doing the piercing or just making the mark, and then asked her to please give me a 3, 2, 1 countdown. It wasn't the most well kept, sterile place. The room where I got my piercing was not very comforting and no one else was allowed in the room. If you're nervous about getting a piercing, this is not the place to go. Go somewhere that gives you all the information, has accommodating staff, and feels cleaner. I have been to Addiction twice, both times in the past month! The first time, I went in on a whim to get my nose pierced. I mentioned the yelp deal and they gave me the $10 off, no problem. I went into the back where I was met by a woman (gah I can't remember her name!) who led me into a small room. She was so nice and made me feel at ease. She made sure I liked where she put the reference dot, showed me the needle, and had me pierced in no time. I have had my nose ring for about a month now and I am absolutely in love with it. It healed quickly and other than the initial pierce, it wasn't painful at all. Cut to last Saturday. I had been talking about getting the tattoo on my ankle changed for awhile. My friend Bess (the one who recommended them to me and went with me for my piercing), suggested I go in for a consultation. The people at the front sent me to the back where I met my tattoo artist Marcel. He did a quick drawing on my skin of what the tattoo would look like. He said that he would shade it in and even offered to do color. The process was super quick and relatively painless. He even let me play the music I wanted while I was being tattooed. I was charged the minimum ($100) and it was SO worth it. My tattoo is now so beautiful and looks like a piece of art whereas before it looked like something I had done to myself (perhaps in prison). I got my tat from Adal here, and he's absolutely great. He was fairly new at the time (this was a while back), and incredibly nice and really super chill. We talked about what his interests were in the field, how he got into it, and what he had hoped to do in the future. Just a classic conversation. I discussed how chinese characters end up looking the way they look in different styles because of the strokes and how to imitate what I wanted correctly, and he was really enthused and open to new tidbits. The staff is really friendly and nice, don't be intimidated at all. Adal was really, really helpful in getting the size and carefully going about his work, but he was also really quick and efficient. A great experience, I highly recommend it. The next one i get will be from here. The price was not bad either. Update: Adal does not work here anymore, hopefully he's doing well somewhere else. However, the current artists are all very good and know their stuff. I had one done Sunday from Eric, nice guy, when he gets in a groove don't let him stop. This time around in terms of service it wasn't as friendly, but its one of those "initially you may be put off, but talk a little bit, put up some wit, and they'll laugh along with you". Especially if its not as busy. This woman was getting a huge arm piece, it was flowing and colorful and really wonderful, she was getting the second part of it. If you absolutely must get your tats on St. Marks, go for Addiction. Ignore the token glassware out front, there are some great people inking in the back. The staff are polite and prompt with the paperwork. Beans is a great guy with a very relaxed energy. He works very quickly and delivers on what you want. The piercers are quick and everything is sterilized and modern despite the rundown room. Years later, I would probably recommend researching tattoo parlors in the tristate if you want something really elaborate. Addiction doesn't have the best prices and they get crowded easily. Obviously you can't be choosy in Manhattan and snobbery won't cut it on St. Marks, so again, Addiction is a decent choice. read more

I got my cherries done by daniel - he did an incredible job - a bit higher priced than i would have normally paid - but still this is nyc and st marks place... and he is an incredible artist - tho mine was more of an off the wall type design. Everyone was high energy and sociable ( a high point for me when picking somewhere to get stabbed a few thousand times) and even tho we didn't even start till after midnight - he did an incredible job ( see pic in profile) - i will absolutely go back for me! Went here on Saturday night to get tattoo number 5 and 6 while I was at it. So let's down to it shall we... We arrived at 1am or so and both tattoo artists were busy. It took about 10 minutes for someone to approach us (-1 point for you). Once we were finally approached, we were treated very nicely. Told to write out the phrase to be tattooed and decide on a font. They were honest that there would be a wait and we didn't mind. We saw people come in an out to be pierced and it was like most tattoo shops I've been to. Finally, Fabian, the tatoo artist greatest us. So, kinda my pet peeve, be polite...Fabian, you hit the mark. Very polite artist...greeted us, gave us a price, and told us to hang tight while he set up. (+1 for you) Fabian drew up the stencil and said, "hey, I know you chose this font, but I really don't like the way the o looks. I am going to change it for you so it will look better" Dead on sir (+1 point for you again), the change he made was small (literally how the o looped), but it made a huge difference! The tattoo was pretty painless and so far so good (not to worry, I'll re-report if it turns out something happens). Additionally, Fabian made sure to show us the new equipment (unopened) prior to beginning the tattoo. Overall, the shop has some lively characters, but all whom have their own little individual charm. I would certainly recommend this place, but be prepare to wait if you're going in on a whim. read more

Sunday night, near closing, AJ took care of my friend, he was so gentle, so patient, very professional and knowledgeable. Super nice, perfect hygiene, great great rapport. Because it was late when we finished he gave us some of the antibacterial cream he recommended in a little plastic thingie just in case we couldn't find it that late. How nice?!! Though I have not explored other options around St. Marks, I definitely would recommend Addiction for piercings. A friend had been looking to get a tattoo here, and on a whim I decided to get a rook piercing. The piercing room was small, but it was clean, well lit, and the tools were all sterilized in front of me and I was able to watch everything he did. The piercing was done superbly and nearly painless. He was also nice enough to answer all my questions about aftercare and what to use to clean and care for the piercing. Needless to say I have come back for a 3rd lobe piercing and recently a helix piercing all which were done without any issues. The process for getting one is pretty basic. They ask what you want, you fill out a waiver and then you pay at the front of the shop. They stamp the receipt and then you can go back. I never really had to wait more than 5 minutes for a piercing which I think isn't bad considering it was a Saturday night. Prices are pretty good here as well, as I said I don't have anything to compare it to, but I think its worth it. A friend of mine has gotten 2 tattoos done here, I personally haven't, but she seems pretty happy with the end results. It may be small and seem like every other place on St. Marks, but they're super nice and helpful, I will be coming back here for future piercings. read more

I purchased a groupon for this place that was $199 for 3 hours of tattooing. I was only in the area for 2 weeks, so I made sure that I had an appointment before my departure date by going in twice and calling at least 7 times. Finally I secured an appointment with the receptionist (whose name I really should have written down) and was scheduled with Austin, on Thursday at 5 pm. I show up at 4:40ish - and the artists that were there seemed a bit confused by the appointment time. They got Austin on the phone, and the first thing he had said was that he doesn't work on Thursdays but he could work on me Sunday. He was really friendly, and apologetic for the confusion - but the reason my situation was so frustrating, is because I live in another country, and was leaving that next day. Obviously Sunday wouldn't work for me which is why I had done so much to ensure I could get my work done before my flight. Now I have $199 groupon bucks, which is clearly not what I wanted. The other artists in the store were trying best they could to be helpful which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 1. Brandon who works there had mentioned when I get back in the area he'd do the work that I wanted. I'm happy to hold him to that and give a 5 star rating once it happens! read more

I live across the street from Addiction and always overlooked it purely because it was on my block. I have 1 or 2 piercings on each ear but nothing crazy, and spontaneously decided to get a few more. I saw all the rave reviews and went over to see if anyone was available to do my piercings without an appointment. I had a lobe, a cartilage, and a conch piercing done by Rob, who was awesome and super patient while I was going back and forth between a few options. He was extremely thorough with cleaning/marking up my ear, and I barely felt any pain with each piercing. If you go to Addiction and the artist working is across the street at ELITE Piercing, it's worth waiting at Addiction for them to come back. ELITE does have a wider variety and higher-quality selection of body jewelry, but is overall much more expensive for both piercings and the earrings/jewelry (which you pay for in addition to the piercing price). If you're cool with a basic surgical steel stud earring, Addiction is much more reasonably priced, and you still get the same experienced artist doing the piercings. Overall a great experience at Addiction with Rob and will definitely venturing back across the street if I ever decide to get another! read more

I got my first tattoo here back in April. I picked the font I wanted on their computer and waited a few minutes for the artist to be ready. It was all done in less than fifteen minutes, and looks great to this day. It has not faded at all (and it's a foot tattoo) and healed really well. They were a little confusing with their prices though - minimum prices, etc. The guy sort of haggled with me. Still ended up paying a little more than I could have elsewhere - but for something that's on your body permanently, who cares really, because I am very happy with my tattoo.
