My artist Nessa is especially fantastic and she's very focused on her work. they also do piercings and have a separate and private room just to do piercings. Unfortunately had a terrible experience with Almara. The sketch to the final result was terrible and a sketch of a dandelion had zero dimension and has looked like an amoeba. I got this Saturday and have received feedback from other artists on the lack of thought into shading and dimension. I sent multiple photos prior with a description and stating whimsical and realism to the image and got a chicken scratch kindergarten drawing. Now I will have to go through laser removal. This was my first tattoo and it was a horrible experience. I already have a new artist who hit the nail on the head of the image to replace this with once it is faded. read more

Over the weekend, I was in NYC with my niece and sister when they suggested we get tattoos. I agreed, and they both looked at me like I was crazy--at 68 years old, they didn't think I'd actually go through with it. At first, I wasn't sure what kind of tattoo I wanted, but my niece found Uplift Tattoo & Piercing and we walked in not thinking they would be able to accomodate us. When we arrived, the setting was very nice, and the person at the desk directed us to Helly. Helly was extremely kind and asked what I had in mind, as I was the only one who knew what I wanted. I told her I wanted a paw print with my dog's name on it. I got emotional talking about him, and she reassured me, sharing that she had lost her dog as well. She was so empathetic. Helly then showed me some of her designs, and I immediately chose one I loved. I looked through my photos of my fur baby and found the perfect paw picture to send her. She began designing, taking my input, and together we chose the best one. It was the most delicate paw print I've ever seen. The experience was incredibly relaxing, and I wasn't nervous at all. The entire process, including the design and tattoo, took about an hour and a half. When she finished, the result was beautiful. I love collecting tattoos when I visit places, and on this NYC visit, I decided to get a tattoo. I found Uplift through a google search and found my tatt on their online flash. I DM'd them on IG and they were super quick to respond. They told me Jakki was available, and like most of their artists, when I looked through her portfolio, I could see she was clearly super talented. The studio itself was super nice, and in a great location. Prices were great, staff was friendly, and they were able to get me in super quickly. Jakki was so badass, and obviously very talented. She was so fast and detailed. I couldn't believe how small she could get the tattoo, and how patient she was as I decided on a placement. I first came upon Uplift Tattoo & Piercing when visiting NYC for the weekend - I decided to get a NYC specific tattoo (of the MetroCard) and got the privilege of having Rui as my artist. It was a walk-in session, completely unplanned, and the wait was not terribly long. The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything. Rui is an incredibly talented artist and was patient and supportive with figuring out what I wanted. More recently, I got my septum and tragus piercings with Lamb, who is a phenomenal and knowledgeable piercer. This visit was also a spontaneous venture and I was seen rather quickly. He made the whole experience less stressful (for me, it was about the pain) and talked through the steps. I am very happy with my decision to come here for my piercings and appreciate the time Lamb took to ensure I had everything for post-piercing care. I was very excited to get a new tattoo at Uplift. I follow (now followed) their instagram and seen the nice work their artist do. I have nothing negative to say about my artist quality of work but I do have my opinion about the negative experience and bad customer service. Booked the appointment. I explained I was coming out of town. The day of the appointment I received a message from the artist to request to reschedule our appointment. Please see the attachment text conversation. I understand that situations happen but the lack of an apology from management was a deal breaker. When I went to the shop, no one approached me to talk about what happened or offer an apology. I was shown some tattoo photos of instagram and was told "he" will be your artist today. At the time I paid, the pricing was higher than when originally quoted for the same tattoo. At that point I didn't feel the argument was worth the time and left. I would have like to keep going to Uplift and keep getting tattoos there, but the lack of customer service, increase of price, and no appreciation or apology, really was a turn off. read more
