Such a good and very authentic Ethiopian restaurant. Truly felt as if I was back in a restaurant in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. The owners a so hospitable and the gracious. During our conversation he said he wants to offer a real experience. The Lamb and Chicken Tibs, misir wot, salad and homemade were very good. It is 100% Teff Injera (not the white flour mix). Only true injera at a restaurant in the city of Louisville. The only item we had that was disappointing was the Atakilt (kabbage Wot). Just was under flavored for my taste. What is up with this plaza at Bardstown and Watterson trail? It already has my favorite taqueria in Mi Preferida. It has one of my two favorite Indian places with Dakshin. Now it has Adis Ababa. This new Ethiopian place is the deal. I had the lamb tibs. Lean lamb chunks seared with tomatoes and onions and spices in a nice thick stew. It was served on injera with a green salad. The nice gentleman asked if I'd like some lentils. I said sure. Do not pass on the lentils. Very tasty creamy consistency. I am only rating this place based on this one meal. It was a 5 star lunch. I have leftovers for a big lunch tomorrow. Now the dilemma is what restaurant do I visit next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This place is very new, so they're still getting a full menu and "vibe" put together, so I'll forgive that part for now. I ordered their vegetarian combo platter and soon enough found myself sitting in front of some injera supporting small heaps of salad, stewed cabbage and carrots, red lentil stew, and green lentil stew. This is standard Ethiopian fare and tastes about as expected. Still, the personality of the food still comes through enough for me to know I'm not eating at somewhere else in town like Abyssinia. They asked if I was okay with "spicy", and I said yes, so my platter had some heat to it. Particularly the salad, it contained slices of what I assumed was probably jalapeño in it. Added a nice crunch. The stewed cabbage and carrots were a tad brighter-tasting and sweeter than I was accustomed to. I'm not referring to added sugar, this is just a tasting note, in the same way that some black coffees taste "sweeter" than others. I normally feel "blah" about cabbage but the way they cook it here made it pretty enjoyable. The green lentils, on the flip side, were more earthy than I have had in the past. I can't put my finger on it what spice it might be, but I don't mind it. If my wife were free enough to have joined me, it probably would have been her favorite part of the meal. Lastly, the red lentils, normally my favorite part of a veg platter, did not disappoint. Still my favorite part of the meal here! I definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes Ethiopian food, this place will not disappoint unless you're looking for a very specific dish before they've had a chance to expand their menu. read more

Wonderful Ethiopian Food! Got the veggie platter and lamb tibs. Veggie platter came with lentils, potato carrot, collard greens and perfectly dressed salad. Every bite was flavorful. The injera was perfect! Lamb was soft, tender and flavorful. Tried the sambosas and loved them. I preferred the meat ones but they were both flavorful and crispy. The owners are so friendly and sweet. We witnessed the coffee ceremony which involves incense and roasting of the coffee in front of you. Was unable to try it because I was so full but will definitely try it next time. Tried some home made honey wine and they too was delicious. We've come here several times because the food is absolutely amazing and there is no other Ethiopian restaurant in the city that's better food quality than this one. Although, I am not sure we will be coming back ever again, our last visit was pretty questionable. We were charged the price for 3 meals and only got 2 meals which made our bill $65+ for only 2 people. I got Doro wot with veggies but for some reason was charged for a veggie combo and a Doro wot combo. On our receipt, they marked out the actual $15 price with a pen and changed it to $35.00 for one of our orders. We have been to other Ethiopian restaurants and have gotten the same order for more than half that price. I'm leaving three stars because again the food is great, but it's not ever okay to take advantage of repeat customers. My biggest critique here is to get a better system set up, have what you serve on the menu plan and simple, and be prepared to accommodate customers' requests to adjust certain meals or to not accommodate customers requests to adjust meals. When customers want to add to a dish such as (a side of beans) you should have separate side item prices set up! it's not fair to charge the full price of a different meal just because a customer asks for one extra side. So yes we won't be back here unless management or someone from the restaurant reaches out to fix this. read more

I just moved to the Louisville area and it has been two years since I had Ethiopian food. This is my new go-to spot!!! The owner is tremendously sweet and hospitable, and greets you with a smile. I ordered without viewing the menu because I knew I wanted Yebeg tibs. The meat was super flavorful and perfectly spicy! The salad had a delicious vinaigrette. Our regular Ethiopian restaurant was closed but we found this gem. It is definitely a hole-in-the-wall and lacks the ambiance of the other restaurants. However, the explosion of flavors and hospitality are amazing. My companion spent time in Africa and said that the teff-based bread was more authentic. We both agreed that the food was excellently prepared. I am not a fan of large screen tv's while dining and this one cannot be avoided. When you are in the mood for some legit Ethiopian cuisine this is your place! A colleague recommended I check this hidden gem out the next time I visited Louisville. Note: This is a small family-owned business so the aesthetics aren't all that BUT, the food is amazing and the people working there are extremely courteous and professional. I visited on a Friday right after they opened at 12:00 so it was empty. No pictures this time but I had the chicken with rice and and order of samosas. It came out hot and fresh and was DELICIOUS . The plate included a serving of salad and cabbage and didn't disappoint. So the place is located in an older mini mall along with some other small restaurants and grocery store. The first time I walked into the place, I stood in the front room for a good 10 minutes while I heard someone washing dishes in the kitchen. Nobody came out and I left. Well, that was weird. I kept hearing good things about the food, so about a month later I returned with better luck and had lunch. I'm just a white guy from Kentucky, but I'm pretty sure I've eaten at every Ethiopian restaurant in town. In my opinion, Addis Ababa is the best. Many places here in town have undercooked or under seasoned lentils that taste a little bit like dirt. The red and yellow lentils at Addis Ababa are better than the two popular Ethiopian restaurants in the downtown area that start with the letter "A". They were tender and delicious.. pretty much perfect. From what I can remember, the beef was also tender. The owner is also super nice. This is located in a not-so-snazzy shopping mall, but as soon as you walk in, you're transported to another world. We were greeted very warmly as we entered by Hahnah (sp ?) and chose a comfortable location for the four of us. We were greeted individually by each of the staff and felt like family very quickly. The menu was very well laid out, and our choices were made quickly. (My wife and I are vegetarians and had no problem choosing our shared dinner). The food came out reasonably quickly and it was heavenly. My wife and I are fairly new to Ethiopian cuisine so we followed the lead of our friends. The place is very charming. Such is the family owned Addis Ababa, which puts a high premium on hospitality. Our hostess cooked a meal of lamb and vegetarian stews, bringing me and my friend a complimentary pair of lentil turnovers to tide us over while we waited. Whenever my friend is in from out of town, this has been our go-to place for anytime we can squeeze it in Ethiopian. The music playing is authentic, and the people than run it are wonderful.
