The food here is delicious! If you are not familiar with Ethiopian food, don't be afraid to ask the staff for recommendations. Service was fast and friendly.

if i could give this place a zero stars i would!! absolutely horrible service, i am also ethiopian the food is very old and inauthentic!! i waited 39 minutes to receive water. i ordered a meat plate with awaze tibs, lega tibs and alicha, and once i ordered this was my meal proportions, it was extremely small and looked stale and old . when i asked the owner laughed and said "im sure if you got more you wouldn't finish it?" and walked away mocking me and refused to serve me do not pay money to eat here theh are predatory and awful!!! - from a fellow ethiopian

Delicious! Amazing experience, great food. Definitely a fun spot for date night. If trying to make a reservation, id definitely call them by phone, they don't seem to use the open table reservations from google

As an Ethiopian something I do in any city and look for Ethiopian food. Even though there are not a lot of Ethiopian places in Richmond I was excited to find a little place that reminds me of home. The food is great and they have a variety of my favs like the quanta firfir (must try) and the owner is so kind, it seems like it's family run. Also the honey wine is really nice if you like something on the sweeter side. I've had family dinners and lunches with friends or just injera runs when I need some quick. The place is great and I hope more people get to try it and support this local restaurant!

Wowowow the food is sooooo so good!! We decided to come here for a birthday lunch with a big group. They accommodated us so well. The honey wine was super good and complimented the food well. We got various meats and veggies. Let me tell you, all of them were delicious. You cannot go wrong, every dish is just so flavorful. The injera was nice and spongy. Make sure to eat with your hands! Everything had a wonderful blend of spices. The veggies were curried and seasoned to perfection. They split our orders into two plates with our big group, and it was perfect. The staff were all very kind and helpful. Thank you so much! This was our second time, and it was wonderful both times. Thank you for bringing Ethiopian food to the area!

Went there for super early dinner on a Sunday. Restaurant was empty so can't say much for the ambiance or atmosphere when it's more lively. The food though was great. Injeras were the right amount of sour to be super flavorful. Ordered a sample platter, and while it didn't look like much to start with, it definitely left me very full. I've been craving Ethiopian ever since!

Ethiopian family owned restaurant, serving authentic Ethiopian cuisine. Meat and veggie dishes were flavorful and portions are generous. Owner is almost always there and very friendly.

This was my first experience trying Ethiopian food. The owner was helpful and provided suggestions for us as beginners. Overall the food was pretty good, though we were expecting the flavors to be a bit more bold. The other reviews are correct in regards to expecting service to be slow and food taking some time since it is made fresh. I wouldn't come here if you have limited time. Also, we made a reservation on OpenTable but it didn't seem like they were aware so it might be better to call them instead.

Worth the visit, for sure, especially since Ethiopian options in the city are few and far between. A bit expensive for my liking, but overall had a great experience - our server was super patient with our group of 12 or so people, and gave some good recommendations of what to get. If I could highlight two things to get, I would say the Yebeg Awaze Tibs and the Ye Doro Wot were my favorites - such tender meat in the lamb dish that went super well with the spongy texture of the injera and the chicken from the Ye Doro Wot was fall-off-the-bone, delicious, and complimented very well by a hard boiled egg - begging the ever debated question of which came first... the chicken or the egg!? Some of the other dishes were just fine - reference my photo for some visuals, but just know that anything green was delicious as well :) This place is just about as authentic as you are going to find in Richmond with a large indoor space in a really cool part of town so overall I say it's worth a try!

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was phenomenal! The owner answered so many questions and made fantastic recommendations. The ambience of the restaurant was calm and inviting. We had such a nice evening trying new food. We'll definitely be back.

Best experience in terms of dining Our waiter was amazing and definitely gave us some of his recommendations. Each bite was an experience to remember for. The injera was soft, fluffy, easy to pick up, and really absorbs the flavors of the dishes you pick up with it. Our favorites were the ground chicken, tilapia tibs, and the lamb. This was our first Ethiopian cuisine experience and I feel like anything after this would be subpar compared to Addis. Hats off to the really good waiter there

I tried them before a long time ago and haven't had them recently, so I was really anticipating having them again. The ordering process was quick and easy, we used their computer screens to put our orders in. Not too bad of a wait for our food. The staff were very communicative on our food status while we were waiting, which I appreciated. My order included an Afro pie (7.5/10), I absolutely loved the sauce it came with, but I do feel like the meat inside and pie itself was dry. Sautéed green beans (10/10). Chicken Egusi soup w/ pounded yam (9/10), the flavors were amazing! I loved how savory it was; however, I do believe they switched the spice level of my soup with my sisters because I asked for none-little spice, yet my soup tasted like it was their highest spice level !! I had to keep taking breaks while eating because while it did taste really good, it was also so so spicy! I really did enjoy my meal, despite receiving the wrong spice level in my Egusi soup. I will def return again soon. My overall rate of experience : 8.6/10

It's the kind of place where you walk in thinking, "Oh nice," and walk out Googling how to recreate the lighting in your own living room. Cozy without being cramped. Trendy without making me feel like my shoes were judged. The food? Listen. I would like to publicly apologize to my taste buds for ever doubting them. Every bite tasted like the chef stood over the plate whispering, "You deserve this." Bold flavors, perfectly cooked, plated like it was about to audition for a food magazine. Now why four stars instead of five? Because I have trust issues. And also because the food came out so good I now have unrealistic expectations for every other meal I will ever eat. That feels like a burden I wasn't prepared to carry. Service was friendly, attentive, and didn't once make me feel bad for asking, "What's that?" three separate times. Water refills were prompt. Smiles were genuine. No one hovered. No one disappeared into the void. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I pretend I discovered it before it was cool? Also yes. Four stars. Only because if I give five, they might get too powerful.

My husband always says he wouldn't know the food is vegan if i didn't tell him, it is always so filling & flavorful! The ambiance in here is so chill! I love that there are books, artwork, crystals & spiritual things for sale, but also a mini library & some chess tables & things to enjoy as well. This space always feels welcoming & peaceful & well worth their prices with their portions & unique offerings! They sell different vegan dishes and most have what they call kush in them. It seems to be some sort of grain, but I really don't know. But I do like it. They have Alfredo, nachos, Mac n cheese, desserts, and smoothies. Some of the food is reasonable and some is pricey. A few desserts were $10-$15. I wanted to try them, but not for that price. We placed our order and looked around the store. They have updated the store/restaurant, so it's a more modern vibe. You can read books or hang out inside, so that's cool. The restroom was clean. There was plenty of seating to dine in. The store side sells books, crystals, jewelry, and more!! The cashier and cook were both very friendly!! I'm not vegan so I stick to what taste familiar to me to be safe. The chili is good, you wouldn't even know it's vegan. Definitely get the vegan nacho cheese to kick it up a notch. It also comes with chips. The alfredo came with veggies and kush. I'm glad it was saucy. I got it fully loaded so it came with a hash brown on top also. It was pretty good, but could use a little more seasoning to elevate the taste.. The last time I ate here the portions were a little larger, they seem to be noticeably smaller this time, so that's the only difference I've noticed. The kush usually confuses my stomach for a few days afterwards. It also may make you feel full faster but, I think it's worth trying. If your a vegan you should check them out, but even if you're not you can probably find something to try! Check them out!!
