It's a small dining room that feels like a cross between a cafe and someone's home. It's very inviting and a nice place to eat. The food was great. Was craving Ethiopian food and ordered a Meat Combination for pick up. Food was ready when I got there so that is a plus. The portion is more than enough for two. The food overall was delicious (even though the picture doesn't look that good). The green lentils just need a little more spice to it, but mixed with the red lentils is a good combination (the red lentils was really spicy to my tasting to eat alone). The combo consisted of 3 meats and 7 different veggies sides (red/green/yellow lentil, beets, cabbage, greens, green bean). I was worried that it didn't come with enough injera since some restaurants don't give you enough, but when I opened the box I was surprised to see 2 full pieces of injera on top. I love this Ethiopian restaurant and am so happy it's a convenient go-to in in the neighborhood. The food here has the same homemade nuance that is common in Ethiopian restaurants: sumptuous injera bread and subtle variations on familiar dishes. The food here has a little more of a kick than I've seen in other Ethiopian, which I love but you might want to be aware of if you're sensitive to spice. Getting Ethiopian food as takeout is always not so fun idea for me but this place made no effort to make it presentable. Got three injera with the vegetarian platter. Injera was not bad but the curries lacked flavor for me. Except for the miso wet none of them had any flavor and it was definitely not eatable for both of us, lol I had to throw mostly 60% of it, quantity was generous but the food was either too dry or lacked flavor. Also for veggie platter they don't let you customize curries or add salad etc. I have been really unlucky with food at Seattle downtown. Not coming back. read more

Solid cooked to order Ethiopian food. Service was good in general, even though a drink order was forgotten. They made up for it being diligent about refilling water. No Sambusas, the day we went and they did not have gluten-free injera. The all white meat chicken breast option was really nice, though. Some places make theirs waaaaaay too sour, but this place nails it on the flavor and spongey texture. Between five of us, we split 2 meat platters and the Derek tibs. The meat platter came with an slew of grilled meats, stewed meats, veggies, beans, and salad. The stewed meats were tender and chocolate-y, while the stewed veggies and grilled meats were well seasoned with spices similar to Indian curries. All of the flavors soaked into the injera underneath which was an excellent finish. I'm not a huge fan of the salad though since it felt like it was there to take up space, but needed to round out the dishes. We also ordered the derek tibs for the first time. We've had their other tibs before which were all very delicious. The derek tibs didn't disappoint! It came on a piping hot skillet which was sizzling as it got to our table. There was a nice aroma of hot seasoned oil, onion, and jalapeños. The meat was crispy but not too greasy. My only criticism is that it was a little dry, but the cut of beef was very lean, so it was understandable. I recommend getting the lamb tibs before getting this one. Their bathrooms are clean! They stock plenty of aromatics to keep it a nice experience :). 8.5/10 for the bathroom. read more

I was psyched to try Ethiopian cuisines here as some of my Ethiopian acquaintances recommended this place a while back. Coming in on weekday night, we were the only patrons at the time. We went for meat and vegetable combination plates. They were served in one huge plate with the slightly tangy injera (Ethiopian Flatbread) on the side. Now I've been told the only way to savor these dishes is to eat them by hands, so we did! We definitely prefer the vegetable options over the meat ones. The split peas and lentil sauce were so fresh and bursting with flavors! The meat dishes were decent. I only liked the beg alecha (braised lamb). If I ever come here again, I would stick with the vegetable option. Service was surprisingly lacking despite the place being empty. Had to flag them down to get water refilled. They didn't even ask how everything was either. No proactiveness whatsoever. All in all, Adey Abeba was an okay experience. Wouldn't be a place I'll go back to. I would definitely love to try other Ethiopian dishes, perhaps from other places so I could get a reference point. read more

As someone who doesn't live in the Seattle area it was not easy to find (nothing much on the outside to let me know it was the right place) because it was basically nondescript. After accidentally walking into the wrong place (the guy was really sweet and told me it was next door down) I was happy to get my food. Best Ethiopian restaurant in town! I know that's high praise but this place is the best Ethiopian joint I've been to in Seattle! The place was empty when we got there around 6.20 but it filled up pretty quick! We were hungry but also in a rush since we had an appointment after so we ordered super quick. Sarah and I got Door Wat and the veggie combo and our friend got the scrambled eggs! The portions are huge and this lasted us for another meal the next day! The chicken and the lentils were my favorite part and the injera was soft and had a hint of sourness which made it perfect! We also got the Ethiopian Merlot and we didn't dislike it. The service was nice and fairly quick. We were able to eat, drink and pay our bill in 50 mins and that's pretty fast for Sarah! I took my wife and my baby to try this restaurant last week. I was honestly surprised because i have never heard of this place before. It's cozy and have the feeling of a true Ethiopian restaurant. The owners were so sweet and genuine, even when I complained that the sambusa didn't have a whole lot of salt..lol I like sugar and salt but when I told the owner, he said he would let them know and make that change the next time. In all honesty, their food was amazing and the sambusa was just my personal preference but i know why they put less salt because people nowadays are conscious about their health..lol Thanks for the great dinner p.s - my 10 months old daughter loved their food and ate so much..so we will definitely go back soon. read more

This place is clean and friendly. A very nice family runs the joint and they were so nice and had an adorable baby. Started with one veggie and one meat sambusa. They are kind of like spring roll wrappers, and the filling is piping hot and super tasty. The food here is great-- make sure to get the veggie combo. It is a good price point and comes with SO MUCH good food. A downside to the combo is that most entrees come with two sides, and the veggie combo already includes all of the sides so in some ways it seems like less of a deal/value. We also split a lamb-- Beg Wat, I think. The injera here is fresh and fluffy, but I almost like a little more sour/tartness to it. It served the purpose and was definitely delicious, though. With a wine and beer the total was still only 30 some bucks before tip. Will definitely return! read more

We found that the items they have in their veggie combo are actually quite diverse in flavor and texture, which is much appreciated as sometimes we find that veggie combos can end up tasting quite samey. I'll cut to the chase. My dining experience here was very disappointing. We ordered the assorted veggie plate and Adey lamb special. When the food was delivered to our table, I caught a strong scent of vinegar. I figured it was the salad dressing but, after taking my first bite, I realized it was the bread. Combined with a seriously underwhelming spice profile from the rest of the dish, the vinegar flavor of the bread overpowered everything. The lamb was chewy and not tender at all, as if it was cooked in a hurry and not properly prepped. On top of the food, the service was inattentive. We got water in small glasses when we initially sat down but did not get water again until the point when we were asking for a box for all the leftovers, as we did not eat too much. Portion sizes were generous and I love to support a family owned restaurant but I would not go back to this place. There are better Ethiopian restaurants in the area. read more

We came for lunch as a group of 7 on a Sat and the restaurant was not busy at all. Based on my previous experience at Ethiopian restaurant, the pace tends to be on the slow side, especially if you are used to the turnover rate at some Asian restaurants or fast food restaurants. It seems to be the case here as well, most likely because they made a lot of things fresh. It worked well for us since we were not in a rush at all and we appreciated the freshly made food. Highly recommend the vegetarian combo platter. For about $14 it's enough to feed 2 people. We then ordered a few meat toppings including lamb & chicken and some other vegetarian dishes. We also ordered two sets of Ethiopian coffee, with 3 servings in each set. Coffee drinkers in our group said it was very smooth and a bit in the strong side. Ate here for lunch yesterday. My stomach is still sore from attempting to eat the entire vegetarian platter by myself but you know what they say... You never fail when you try. It's my experience that veggie platters have some tasty items and some bland items, so I'll just kind of mix them together. All the items on this veggie platter had distinct flavors and would be delicious on their own. Usually the collard greens are my favorite but this time the collards were matched or beat by more than one item. It was so delicious. I look forward to eating here again soon, though I will bring a second stomach to help me. The only drawback was my injera did not wrap well. It broke too often when I picked up food. But the texture was still soft and it wasn't dry, just a less than perfect batch I assume. It happens. Highly recommended! Consistently flavorful and delicious. The injera is really good and they always provide plenty. We're vegetarian so our go-to is the veggie combo. I wish there was a bit more variety in the type of lentil dishes (it's a lot of veggies), but the flavors are well developed. We've also tried the vegetarian Shiro which was good. We have been to a lot of the Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle. Our other favorite was Saba, but it closed and also Sunset Cafe, but it changed owners/chefs a while ago, so without Sunny it's not quite the same. This is our regular go-to spot and I'm so hopeful they stay in business during this challenging year! read more

Great food and an incredible value! I came here with a group of friends. There were 6 of us total. We ordered two of the meat combo platters for us all to share and a couple rounds of beers. Our total still only came out to be about $15 per person, and we still had about 1/3 of the food left when we all were stuffed and had to tap out from eating any more. The place is cute with a good family-owned vibe. The staff was all very accommodating and helped us order and kept our water glasses full throughout the meal. I've only had Ethipoian food a couple times in my life, so I'm no connoisseur, but our meal really hit the spot. It's fun to dive into a giant platter of food with nothing but bread as your eating utensils. I will gladly return with friends to attempt to finish another combo plate any day. read more

We shared the Adey meat combo and it was more than enough for the three of us. The meat options were okay but nothing outstanding. What really stood out were the veggie dishes. The red lentils were the spiciest option in our platter and had great flavor. I also liked the slight sweetness of the cabbage wot. The green bean wot was my favorite and the best I've had anywhere; it was sweeter than at other restaurants and has a crunch that was almost like it was pickled. Service felt slow, especially considering there were only 1-2 other parties during our time here. In general, we found service to be a bit of a struggle here. Our server didn't speak English, so he would have to flag a second person to make our request for more water or injera. When we ordered, there was no one on the floor to flag down, so we actually went up to the counter to do it. I doubt the speed would normally bother me, but we were trying to make it to a show on time that night. I loved the veggie dishes so much that I'll likely be back for the vegetarian combo, but it'd have to be on a very leisurely day. read more

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was amazing!!! Came here on a Tuesday night after a long day of travel with three of my friends. We were greeted with lots of smiling faces and it felt very homey and warm on a cold Seattle evening. We ordered the vegetarian platter, the meat combo platter and one more chicken dish. Food took about 20 minutes to prepare. In the meantime, I saw that there was a free Ethiopian coffee if I checked in on Yelp, but when I asked the waitress, she said it was too late to get the deal. (The free coffee was between 4-6pm, I presented the coupon at 5:56) and at first, I was kind of upset, but also realized it was kind of late for coffee anyways. I later looked up what Ethiopian coffee was and its a whole ceremony!! They roast green beans right in front of you, grind it in a mortar and then brew it with sugar. Definitely recommend taking advantage of this if you make it there on time! Sad that I was too late for the deal. When the food arrived, wow oh wow. It was so delicious and a wonderful experience all around. I think it was pretty healthy and it filled all of us up. The bread was spongey and light and allowed for break proof scooping. Love this place! Such a nice, casual local family business run by an Ethiopian family. I haven't had Ethiopian food for such a long, long time and have been craving for it lately. Luckily, there's decent community of Ethiopians here in Seattle, so I didn't have to travel far. I got a chance to chat with the owner's daughter, who was helping out waiting my table. She was super nice and friendly, too. The meals here are cooked fresh from scratch (so maybe you have to wait a bit). The portion size is hugeee!! Just one dish and you can share with two people (and may even have left over). SUPER reasonable price (ranges from $9-$14 a meal). I had their Beg tibs ($12 - tender lean lamb cubes sauteed with onions, peppers and some spices). It came with a very generous portion of injera (Ethiopian thin sourdough pancakes), Miser Lentils (spicy lentils) and Atkelt Wot (sauteed assorted vegetables with spices). The lamb was well cooked and was not smelly at all. Aww..and the moment I took a bite of their injera with a dab of their lentils and some Atkelt Wolt ..I felt a major foodgasm rushing in me ... oooo~~~..... :D~~ P.S.
