They have tv's and it's very laid back. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp to start. I ordered the SOHA, blueberry vodka, lemonade and blueberries to drink. I ordered the Walleye sandwich which was great. Admiral Jack's is a very casual eatery where you can get cocktails on the Black River in South Haven. We stopped here for lunch and sat at the bar outside and enjoyed the view. My husband and I started with cocktails, a paloma for me and a gin & tonic for him.. I was disappointed that the bar didn't carry mezcal, which I always have with in my paloma. That was a miss for me. Our bartender was Allie and she was friendly and provided good service. My husband had the walleye sandwich for lunch and said it was very good. I had the smoked fish dip with cucumber chips and tortilla chips. That dip was amazing. I also had a side salad to complete my lunch. Stopped in late on my Birthday in August and we were seated promptly. Great location sitting on the harbor overlooking all the beautiful boats. My boyfriend and his family were looking for a place to enjoy a Mother's Day meal and since places were closing early due to the weekend and the holiday we were grateful to find this place. You seat yourself in this location and the entrance is found when you turn a corner at an end of a pier. The view of the water is great here. It can get a little chilly so I recommend a jacket. The bathrooms are clean. The customer service was top notch. The servers always had a smile and checked on us regularly as well as getting us everything quickly. The chicken tempura bites were delicious. I would recommend them. They are crunchy on the outside and juicy and hot on the inside. The burger was my order and unlike some places I've been to, the burger was manageable to eat! It was not falling apart as I ate. The veggies (lettuce, tomato and onions) were fresh. The burger is cooked medium well and seasoned well. The brioche bun pulls it altogether. All of our orders had French fries and they are good fries! Worth eating and we enjoyed them. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Fish and chips were a little salty for my taste. The tartar sauce and lemon were not enough to balance out the salt for me. The tempura is not the crunchy batter that I am used to so note the picture. The chicken sandwich is not crispy. It seems to be grilled and the person who ordered it was the first to finish. Therefore, I'll take it as a sign that it was good. The fillet fish sandwich was also a hit with the person who ordered it. The brioche bun was yummy. The fish was fresh and considering that we were next to a pier, it was a great pick. The fish bites basket was piping out when it came out. This is a great order to share. It had plenty of fish bites and French fries. They were the perfect golden brown, crispy and the fish inside was great! You couldn't find a more beautiful or scenic marina / restaurant anywhere on Lake Michigan. Located in the quaint city of Safe Haven, MI this establishment defined "The Nautical Life" at its fullest. Sail boats, fishing boats, cruising boats filter in and out of this harbor up close and personal right in front of your table. I have to admit (coming from Marina Del Rey, CA) this was a very enjoyable setting for an old salty-dog like me (minus the salt)! On this late Friday afternoon this place was packed and the boat flotilla passing by us was on full display. We all ordered our respective drinks and we shared a quadruple shrimp cocktail which was perfect for this setting. Another go-to spot when in South Haven. It usually is pretty crowded because of the water side views, the atmosphere and outdoor seating but they do have a small inside as well. Had to stop in for old time's sake while visiting for a drink and we ordered the fish and chips to share and snack on. This is a bar with the man focus being on the drinks and music/entertainment so you do not go here thinking you're going to have the world's best of anything food wise but you know that going in and it's still all good. You're there for the atmosphere. Service is good and it is a fun time. I did get a good laugh out of the drink stirrers... they are in the shape of a fish...one that is NOT found in any waters around Michigan so that cracked me up since I was visiting from Florida where it is but haven't see a bar with those yet. Disappointment with a smile. Food is actually good. Overpriced for sure, but good. $20 for three small strips of walleye. $16 for a small amount of fried cheese curds. What seemed absurd: 1.) We made very clear that we wanted to be seated in the shade. We waited for a little while and we're then offered a table that's half in the shade. The hostess acknowledged that it was half in the shade and added that it should be shaded soon. It never got shaded. But it was the only table and so we accepted it. Unfortunately it was a small square table for four and we were a party of five. Then, when a table that comfortably sat five opened, I asked if we could move. We were told that once guests are seated they cannot move. 2.) It's difficult to customize orders. I would have appreciated replacing the fries that came with my order with a smaller order of cheese curds. I told our server that I'd be happy to be charged more. Take my money! But I was told that that could not be done. So, I asked if I could have a half order of curds. That also could not be done. So I committed to $36 for one person. 3.) I grew up as a POC in rural America. But I got more stares here than anywhere I've been in a long time. Just so my peeps know. 4.) We weren't looking for a quiet spot or anything, but this place is loud. You can expect serious noise from folks who look like they're having a great time with people they know from around the area. That's great. But it was crowded enough to make it annoying. ‍ 5.) The place uses deep sea fishing vibes here on the Great Lakes. 6.)
