During the summer and on weekends, there are more people, but you can always find a nice spot on the beach to relax at without feeling clamed in. I love walking to SM Pier or Venice, depends on my mood. It's always a peaceful walk, especially when there's a beautiful sunset. There's always a group or various groups of people playing volleyball, that's always fun to watch. Other than that, surfing, skateboarding, biking, singing, you name it, it's here. There's also a cafe and many vendors selling fruit and snacks. Can't go wrong. Parking: What I love about this park is the $1 for an hour parking option, you can only stay 2 hours max. There are two lots by the park that have this option, and there's another parking lot off of Neilson Way, I think, close to the Euro deli, that has $1.25 parking per hour. I generally stay 2 hours max so $2 for a beautiful experience, is not bad at all. The other lots are $10 for all day parking.

The slides and swings and everything pretty much is new and well taken care of. They have basketball courts and a structure monkey Gym for the older ones and also a fun area for ages 2-5 of age I would say that's great with slides and climbing and fun drums and other great toys for kids to use their imagination. The bathrooms are very clean and love that it's in a residential area and not as open to homeless like other parks. They have a few benches and tables if you'd like to have a picnic or just have lunch or a small little gathering. The grass area and shade area with tree's is so great, the grass is maintained well and love the space for kids to run and not have to worry about them going to the street. There is a little school/ Summer classes in the same area with bigger kids as well. I loved it so much can't wait to come back!

I circled around a bit through a few blocks before chancing on a spot. Walking towards the park, I overheard a few regulars of the park complaining about the commotion. What can you do? There was a smell towards the 7th and California corner, though the majority of the park was cleansed by the gentle ocean breeze, and the restrooms seemed fairly clean. Lots of folks came by for the mahjong event, and it turned out to be a fun little get-together. Beginners and seasoned pros alike shared a table, and even young kids were able to pick up on the gameplay. Haha I was mistaken for a teaching assistant more than once. Playing big mahjong with the cardboard boxed tiles was a unique shared experience, and we did end up winning a round!

There are a lot of homeless people hanging around here during the day and night…read more The playground is closed due to COVID, so there is really nothing to do here. You could exercise and have an outdoor workout on the basketball court with your own equipment. If you are looking for a nice and quiet park to have a picnic, or just sit and relax, I highly I recommend Goose Egg park on 7th street or Clover park on Ocean Park Blvd.

I was here for an event where they map marker said it would be here and then it was actually on the beach in front of this park. The event itself was LOVELY. It was by MindTravel. The only thing about this park and area is there aren't really any public bathrooms unless you use the one a couple hundred yards away on the beach or at a nearby hotel or business if they let you.

As you continue through into the park, you find plenty of other educational activities providing great insights into the history of the area. While this is great, the most amazing part of the park is its simple beauty. There are an array of benches localized near the middle of the grounds that are great to stop for a quick bite to eat or to just sip some coffee while taking in the nature. Definitely a place to make a quick (or long) visit next time your on the Westside in Playa Vista area.

Though I have to admit I live four blocks away so I'm an unreserved, totally bias supporter. Even with my personal bias for Westchester Park, the facility offers more fun stuff than most of LA's city parks including but not limited to: Golf, Tennis, Public Pool, Library, Softball and Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Picnic Area, Senior Center, After School Programs, Wednesday Farmers Market, and a great little Skate Park. And that's just scratching the surface of what makes the this park wonderful. It is close to LAX so I guess that is why it is somewhat underappreciated, but like the Westchester neighborhood in general, the park is swiftly changing. Westchester is no longer an out of the way sleepy LA suburb. It has transformed into one of the hottest area's in the city, and for better or worse that's what's up here. Some come and enjoy it while you can, just keep it chill, since I have to work tomorrow.
