My wife and I stopped in with friends after the Chicago air and water show and gosh we weren't impressed. We were greeted and given a table. They took our drink order but never came back. Thursday night, looking for some tacos and margaritas with my fiancée since Broken English on Wells closed. It was 70+ degrees out so we sat on the patio. Would've been fine, but it was windy and stuff kept blowing in our drinks and food from the surrounding rooftops. I wouldn't recommend the patio if the breeze is more than 5 mph. The service was subpar, and I think I'm pretty lenient on service. The server was nice, but we were pretty much forgotten about at times, and it wasn't a full restaurant. Multiple instances of 15-30 minutes of no checking in. What could've been an hour turned into two real quick. The guacamole was fantastic, we really enjoyed it. The barbacoa tacos were undercooked and I regretted ordering them. The standard margaritas were fine, little heavy on the lime and heavy on the alcohol, which isn't bad. Pricing did not match the food quality or service. If the prices were cut in half, it'd be more of a 3.5-4 star. read more

Handmade to order and the guacamole was made at the table. It seems ever since they moved around the corner North Avenue from the original Wells Street location. The place has progressively gone downhill. Everything showed up at the table so quickly it must be made in batches. Especially the margaritas they just don't taste like they used to. A great place for some quick service and delicious tacos! Came here before going to a show at The Second City on a Friday night. We did make reservations for this place a couple weeks prior, and we got right in! Good amount of seating though so I'm guess you should be fine getting in without a reservation. Started out with yummy cocktails, I got the margarita which was so delicious. Not too strong but just enough to taste it so it softens the sweetness. We then had some chips y salsa as a starter! Not your normal just plain salsa and chips, had a good mix of tomatillo sauce, pico, and red salsa.. also something white which we didn't know for sure what it was? (Jicama?)... didn't eat that part however. Salsas however we're very tasty and with a good spice!! I also love fresh pico so that was my favorite part :) Then came the tacos!! These were AMAZING. So juicy and tender. I love tacos that aren't too filled with "stuff", the simpler the better. These tacos were just that! I also used some of the salsas from earlier on the tacos too which was a fun addition. Overall this place definitely met expectations. Very cozy feeling and fun Christmas decorations were up as well! Margaritas made martini style table side. The spicy mezcal margarita was terrific with a bit more kick from the jalapeno mezcal than I could take. Both Pilo cocktail and sangria were yummy! We went at 2pm right when they opened, as often times it can get crowded in the evenings. We had almost the whole patio to ourselves minus a few other guests. Was waiting for walk in appointment for my cat. After 4 hours of waiting, I needed something and luckily adobo grill was down the street. The michelin guide recommended the tuna poke and I also got the elote as well. Food was fantastic, elote was really good, nice flavor and everything you want in an elote but you can get it much cheaper from other places with the same quality. Tuna poke was phenomenal though. They came with chips which I was slightly disappointed as you can tell the chips were store bought. Nevertheless the flavor of the poke was on point. Perfect balance of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy. Not to mention, the tuna was so fresh. Usually, when I order raw tuna, sometimes it has a slight sour note. However, this tuna did not have it which I think indicates its higher quality and more fresh. Great dish, unlike the elote, they give you an ample amount, I know it was an app but the amount could be treated as an entree! With this restaurant being on the cusp of Old Town and being near a lot of popular late night bar spots it has quite the competition. While I wasn't able to try the drinks the food seemed okay at best. Seeing others hype up the guacamole inclined me to try it--but it tasted like any other store bought guac for 2x or 3x the price. The tacos also weren't particularly special and tasted okay. It might be more worth it to get some tacos at a fast casual dining place to get your fix for Mexican food. Tables socially distanced, and the crew wore masks. Started with cocktails, and they have a generous pour here. We both had the tacos. I chose the fish and my friend the shrimp. The fish tacos were tasty... corn tortillas filled with beer-battered tilapia, topped with creamy chipotle mayo and cabbage. Can't leave this place without splitting an order of churros. Adobo Grill was today's pop up restaurant in my office building and they did not disappoint! We had our choice of Mexican tamales or tacos and I opted for tacos. We had our choice of chicken, barbacoa, al pastor or veggie, and I had one chicken and one barbacoa. They also offered sides of rice & beans but I opted for a side of guacamole & chips instead. Both meats were tender and good but the barbacoa was particularly flavorful. Beef can sometimes be tough and chewy, yet this beef was super tender! They are the real deal for authentic tacos; with cilantro and onions, and they had shaved Chihuahua or Mexican cheese too. The guac was awesome!! Freshly made with the right amount of tomato and avocado chunks! Yum. Good crisp chips, too. A great lunch at a very reasonable price! I got my taco fix today and it was GOOD, so I'm happy! George and the Adobo Grill staff helped us put on a great event! I planned a pre-show cocktail reception for a group of 25-30 guests. George was very helpful when setting up the event with me via email. The menu opens at Adobo Grill are really great. We were set-up in their party space that opened up to the patio. The room was in the front but closed off to the main restaurant so we did not hear any noise from the other tables. I arrived a little early to the restaurant and George was there to greet me. He made sure to have our appetizers set out and ready for when my guests arrived--we had a mix of appetizers on tables and some passed by servers. The servers made sure all our guests were taken care of and kept all our margarita glasses filled. Highlights are definitely the guacamole and margaritas! I got lots of compliments on the cocktail reception and give all that credit to George and his team! We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Adobo Grill. read more

Happened to have some extra time before a Second City show and was craving some Mexican food so we stopped in for a bite. Saw lots of people enjoying their outdoor seating. I got the chicken tacos, which came with guajillo marinated chicken breast cheese, breaded avocado, crispy onions, chipotle, and a side of fiesta rice. The breaded avocado gave a nice texture to the dish. Their tortilla are house-made but got a little soggy by the time I had the second taco. I also tried one of their cocktails that had watermelon infused corazon blanco, fresh watermelon juice, and gran torres. Very refreshing! Their guac is made table side so that was fun to watch. The food was overall fine, not somewhere I'm dying to come back to. There are lots of other places that serve a bit more authentic Mexican food for cheaper. Their happy hour might be worth coming back for if I'm in the area. They have happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Their deals include $2 tacos, $4 draft beers, $6 cocktails, and half off sangria pitchers. read more

I will say this place is convenient for dinner before a Second City show or if you just happen to be in the area. It has a really loud, fun, and energetic atmosphere. There's a really nice patio and lots of seating options. Great place to come with a group or for causal margaritas/drinks. Is it delicious Mexican food? Not really. In fact, I thought it was pretty mediocre. I ordered the adobo chicken salad, which was edible but nothing special. I was a little disappointed because it was supposed to have an eclectic mix of items in the salad (avocado, corn, tomatoes, etc.) but was disappointed at how much corn/tomatoes were included. I also thought the cilantro dressing was very bland and so it was kind of tasteless. On the plus side, the guacamole is absolutely delicious and is a must if you go there. They make it right in front of you and you can choose how spicy you want it -- even the medium had a kick to it! It tasted so fresh and made the meal.
