My second time here, the first time for my dinner companion. Everything was incredibly good, from the greeting we got when we arrived, to the service and the food...oh my, the food! Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it! First visit with my husband to Xochimilco Mexican Restaurant was great! We came on Margarita Monday, so that alone plus the free chips and salsa were fabulous. He loved his steak enchiladas and my shrimp fajitas were delicious. The side salad was a nice touch but it did feel a little out of place, however everything was super fresh, seasoned and flavorful. A fun little BYOB spot! If you bring tequila, they'll bring you mixers for margaritas (which looked outstanding!). My friend and I had wine, which they provided glasses for. They had a $6 corkage fee, which wasn't bad at all. First off - everything we ordered was BEAUTIFULLY plated. It was a really nice element to the entire meal. I had the taquitos as my meal and I was surprised how much I liked the dish! Not only was it pretty, but I loved the crunch of the outer shell combined with the juicy, not dried out chicken, and everything accompanied it so well in terms of flavor and texture. We also split the mango cheesecake which was adorable and delish. A nice little treat to round out the meal. The servers were also very sweet throughout the entire meal! Food was over salted (I am a salt lover). Very little spices in general-I'm not talking heat but you can throw that in too. I'd rate them a 2.5 star. This is a wonderful little local spot. I wouldn't say it's fancy, but it's a family friendly, group friendly, date friendly restaurant with excellent food! We had reservations on a Saturday evening and had just a bit of a wait while the first seating was clearing out. There is not really a lobby to wait in, so it can get a bit crowded, but staff and patrons were very accommodating and everyone handled it very well. They now have a full bar and we were able to enjoy some well made cocktails with our dinner. The cocktails were between $12 - $14, so not too pricey. Everyone enjoyed their dinner choices! The table ordered the Camaromes a La Diablo, Camaromes al mojo, lamb shank (excellent) and Tampiquena (excellent). I would love to go back the next time we are in town! read more

I ordered delivery from here because most of their menu is gluten free. They are super gluten free friendly as well. I got the steak taco dinner. It comes with a lime and I highly recommend using it on your tacos because it makes the flavor really pop. My girlfriend got the chicken tinga tacos, and even though she is a baby when it comes to spice, she loved them. This place was absolutely amazing! Every single dish we ordered was a 5/5, with the taste, presentation, and friendly and efficient service all being on point. We ordered the chicken taquitos, the carne asada (cooked medium), and the peach cheesecake. The carne asada was super flavorful and super tender, probably the best I've ever had. The cheesecake was also super delicious and one of the best dessert items I've had so far in Chicago. A few notes, it is on the more expensive side but we felt like it was worth it given the high quality of the food. Portions are also on the smaller side, but again, we felt prices were worth it. One of those neighborhood spots that's cozy, bright, and has excellent service. We went in the early evening on a Thursday. It was bustling and a little steamy inside. We were promptly greeted, seated, and updated on the specials. We ordered the menu staple "Tampiquena," which included skirt steak, cheese-mole, rice and beans, and we ordered a special dish that included barbacoa with asparagus and beans. The skirt steak in the Tampiquena was good, just chewy enough and balanced. But it did not compare to the barbacoa, which essentially blew our wigs off. Wowza! It was just one of those melt-in-your-mouth moments that signaled many future returns, and I hope they place it on the permanent menu. This is a great spot for a weeknight out, and would also make a good spot to introduce out-of-towners to the many great, unassuming neighborhood restaurants in Chicago. read more

Xochimilco is a great spot for vegetarians! My husband and I order from them all the time. Some of our favorite entrees are the Chile Rellenos and Enchilladas. AND, you shouldn't skip the salad section. The black bean dressing in the XOchi Salad is insanely good. AKA, this is a great place to go if one person is feeling hearty food and the other wants something light. When we've come in person, we've been blown away by the service. It is so fast! Last time, we forgot our leftovers and our waitress chased us down in the rain to make sure we went home with our food. Also, in-person means free chips and salsa! The vibes are great too. My only complaint is that the tables and chairs are packed together. I can't be too mad at that though, because it means there is never a long wait. read more

Accidentally came across this place while walking by. It was at lunch and luckily it was open for a quick bite and more. XOchimilco is a more but not totally authentic Mexican place. Has some pretty good ass chips and salsa, but the rest of the menu is pretty meaty with things like beef and chicken. The prices are kind of high it seems. Coming here the first time, we didn't know it was BYOB. It means they have no alcohol, including margaritas. That sucks, and we were tempted to leave, but stuck around and got a few things. Also this place isn't exactly vegetarian friendly. There was little to choose from, and we had to settle on the Guacamole XO. It's $11 for a modest amount. Spicy stuff, made with cilantro and serrano. It came with a lot of chips. The price was just too high, but the spiciness was authentic and not just a bunch of chipotle powder tossed into avocado like how some places do it. Even though there's no alcohol, we could come here again. It's great for a light lunch. There's not much for vegetarians, but the guacamole is a nice idea for a get together or takeout. read more

I personally love the sauces, big fan of the dobladas potosinas. The food portions are just the right size. Have you tried their horchata latte? Hot or cold, you won't be disappointed. It is also byob. The service is always great. My water is always full and all the servers are always attentive and pleasant. What I love most, is this is family owned and operated and a minority owned business. Parking is decent (meter) around the area, but depends on when you go. Have been coming here for a few years now. Initial draw was the byob policy. The food has out shown the old byob . Even though it no longer is Byo we still love this place. Really nice hard working family run this Establishment. Food is inventive and always fresh ingredients in all the dishes.
