I am extremely disappointed with this salon. Earlier in the year I saw a colourist who did an ok job - natural looking hair balliage. I went back a few weeks ago to the same colourist who even before I arrived was mixing colour... without even asking me. The result was the most repulsive unnatural awfuly done highlighted grey/blonde (couldnt tell) hair colour I have ever had - chunks here and there and highlights right to the root. I went back two days later to try and tone it out, the result was that I looked that I had 3 months of bad roots... The colourist who did my hair in the first place did not even come over to speak with me. I then had to go elsewhere and spend a fortune for someone to fix the mess that happened at Adolf Biecker. I cannot recommend this salon enough. I have been coming to Adolf Biecker for years. Specifically, I go for Alanna. She is phenomenal!! I have very dark and very difficult pin straight Asian hair. Of course, I want to go lighter with balayage and highlights, and she kills it every time. I have suggested this salon to many of my friends that live near here and all of them tell me it's the best- which it is! Fantastic service over the phone and in person. All the staff is so nice and attentive. Always helpful when I need to schedule or move appointments. I have since moved from the area and come back here just to get my hair done, because no one else is able to match the quality of the salon, staff, training, etc. 5/5 I don't trust anyone else with my hair but their team!! read more

Just got a "balayage" with Alana. I knew what I wanted and what I didn't want, so I explained it thoroughly and showed examples of what I want and what I don't want and double checked that we were on the same page. All that to get EXACTLY what I said I did not want, in two distinctly different shades (my left side is visibly lighter than my right side, both the person who did the blow dry and the reception lady agreed that two sides looked different), and with a very distinct boarder between the colored and the natural part (I also mentioned specifically that I do not want that). Adding to the quality of the work, Alana hasn't even bothered to take a look at the result after the blow dry, or even to say good buy, or even to talk at all since the moment she started working on my hair. I guess she was too busy ruining someone else's hair. I wanted a new look for my b-day, instead, I look like shit. Crying as I type this. Never will I set foot in this place again. PS Not that it matters in the light of the resulting look of my hair, but I also got a mild food poisoning there. Cream for their coffee had gotten bad, I could tell by the huge white chunks it formed when I poured it in the coffee, so I didn't drink it. Alana gave me another cup with the cream already added and commented that one needs to steer it real good. I didn't register the comment at first, but the taste of the coffee was sour, and I got a stomach ache very soon after drinking it. Only then I realized that the cream was bad the second time too, she just stirred the chunks of the sour milk really good so that they are not visible. When I commented on that, Alana just ignored me. I mean, it is definitely not necessary to provide coffee for the customers, but, as long as you do it, and it is a part of your service, don't hide bad milk and give people food poisoning. Better not have the coffee at all, in my opinion. read more

I have gone to many different places for waxing (been waxing since late high school/early college) and no where has been as amazing as here. First off, I have never called in and been unable to land an appointment that same day - love that they are open late and try to accommodate/squeeze you in. The estheticians are quick and thorough and I have not once left with any sticky residue on my body. Prices are also fair and facility is clean. Highly recommend a visit. I hadn't been here for awhile but I came back to get another haircut by David the other day and I love it! Very simple, clean lines and I really like the length just a little shorter, which looks flattering to my face. David suggested the Damage Remedy treatment, which he did at the shampoo bowl and my hair feels so much healthier with it, I bought a small size of the conditioner. I decided to try out a massage here yesterday with Lisa. It was my first time having a massage in a long time but it felt wonderful, very relaxing and she was very gentle with me, as I asked. I left refreshed and relaxed, and I was not sore, at least hardly at all. I was having a stressful day and it was the perfect way to unwind for a little bit. I was given some free samples of hair care products! The price seems reasonable to me, about $65 for a haircut and $60 for a 25 minute massage. I'll be back! read more

As pretentious as it can possibly be, the front desk at this salon certainly reminds you that you're not welcome. The receptionists are lofty and the clientele here inconsiderate. I was waiting in line to check in for my service only to be cut off by an 80 year old determined to skip the entire line. Typically you wouldn't think this to be a problem (just be considerate)...but this place is full of elderly women who apparently don't believe in waiting in line. And i couldn't wait all day. The stylist i had was similarly pompous with a horribly fake attitude. My haircut was actually fine and i walked away with a decent style. However dealing with the people here is simply not worth the annoyance. The cut wasn't anything spectacular. Will not return. read more

I was planning on this event to donate my hair, walked in and spoke to David 2 months prior about the best way to go about it since I was making a little event at school with it. Update after my last review: more praise!! I've since continued seeing Lauren K. for my haircuts. She's awesome, friendly, listens to me, and does a great job on the cut and style every single time!! I decided to add a color service this past visit and was honestly a little nervous as I haven't colored my hair in years. Laura did my balayage highlights and they are gorgeous!! She took the time to talk first, explained the process to me and answered all my questions before agreeing that what I wanted was a good fit. I am in love with the result. Downside: I do have to agree with other reviewers commenting on the front desk atmosphere. They've never been particularly friendly in my experience but this most recent visit I walked in and there were 5 or 6 people standing behind the desk silently staring at me. Not one smile or greeting...super awkward. I don't know what's going on up there but don't let the front desk stop you from getting great hair care! I still give it 5 stars because it's worth the odd interactions at check in and check out for this fantastic hair. read more

So even post covid this place is great! Everyone is really nice and you can tell they really care about their clientele, the way they go out of their way to ensure safe practices of hand washing, social distancing and even going as far to provide new masks to people so you won't ruin yours with color. I live in the Northeast so it's a bit of a hike, but I go for my colorist Alanna who's an absolute ARTIST and will have you laughing 90% of the time your there. She's sweet and so talented. If you ask for her you will not regret it. I got my hair cut by Riley who's really friendly and actually LISTENS to what you say about what you want and gives that exactly to you. Now it is a bit pricy, but it's worth it and i'd gladly pay that price everytime, if it's done right. 10/10 would absolutely and will go again :) read more

Did my nails for the first time a few weeks ago and really liked the look. Decided to go to a salon to get a professional look, and chose this salon. Was pretty excited, took the day off so I could relax and enjoy the experience. Looked at my nails after and I saw a lot of lines showing where there wasn't any polish, and a number of other issues. Altogether not impressed, especially considering I did a better job on my own, for the first time, as a 35 year old guy, than the professional did. I brought in my own polish because I love the color, and was then really disappointed with how bad they look. Beyond this, the folks at the front desk seemed a bit aloof and not really interested in talking to customers. Won't be coming back. read more

Ended up here on a whim and absolutely loved my experience. I had Heather for my hair cut and she was very nice and helpful. I am obsessed with my cut, the layers are the best I've had since my stylist left the city years ago. Over the moon with her work! I did a color consult with Mia who was super sweet and knowledgeable. I will likely be back before my birthday to do my color with her. Last but not least, I decided to do a spontaneous facial at their spa and had Julie. She was perfect! Very engaged and handled my array of questions amazingly. She was gentle and explained things well. Prices are on the higher end but honestly, with the service I received I can promise you that it's worth every penny. I know this sounds so high-maintenance, but I am picky when it comes to spas. I just went for a facial at Aveda's Adolf Biecker salon in the RIttenhouse hotel, and I was all-around impressed. My favorite spa is 3000 B.C., but this is a close second. Adolf Biecker is huge: there is a lap pool under a huge skylight, a gym, two locker rooms, showers and tons of spa rooms. My facialist was Kin, and she was amazing. I asked her tons of questions and she told me almost everything she knew. The facial ($100) was amazing and I definitely got my money's worth. Not only do you get a million things done to your face (that all smell so good), but you get a neck, shoulder and scalp massage; a foot and hand massage and hand warmers that help the lotion sink in. Kin used two really cool tools that also made me feel less anxious about giving up $100. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. I had previously had two completely botched hair cuts by other stylists from other salons and was waiting to cut my hair until it grew a bit longer. On a whim I used google and found adolf bieker. I called the salon and asked for a recommendation on a stylist that was good with curls and they set me up an hour later with Melania. If you like to swim, go a little early for your appointment. Do a few slow laps in the pool. Take a nice shower using the aveda products. Sit in the waiting room and sip the yummy aveda tea. Have some of that great trail mix. My fave girl from here, is no longer there, but most of the gals are great. Stick to the spa portion however! I once had my hands dipped in parafin wax here, and the hair salon side is like a beauty parlor from the 50's! I have been getting my hair cut here for the last 4 years , primarily by David but on occasion I have gotten a cut with Heather and Gretchen. My haircut experience has always been wonderful and I would recommend any of the three of these stylists. I have gone in for everything from a routine trim to a huge haircut and change in style. I trust David with my hair and completely trust him to cut and style my hair and make me look great. I have not had my hair cut as often by Heather or Gretchen but the times I have were also great (although those experiences were primarily for trims, but I am sure they would have been fine for more drastic changes in my hair style) Upon arriving at the salon you are greeted and need to check in with the front desk staff. You waitfor your stylist to be ready, while waiting I am generally offered a drink. The staff is generally very polite, however they are often a little curt when speaking to the clients which may come off as rude to some. certainly not always, but sometimes they can seem a bit abrasive as they can get caught up in thier own conversations and ignore the clients a bit. AGAIN this certainly isn't the norm but it has happened on occasion. After being seated your stylist will come get you and go over your plan for your hair and then before you know it you have a new do. I would recommend the salon, I have certainly had great experiences. Always very neat and clean. No overt push of thier products which is nice and I always leave looking great. read more

Adolf Biecker Salon delivered solid hair styling and makeup application services for my wedding. Gina, Elena, Allison, and Kin (makeup) were awesome. I booked our appointments two months in advance through Jaime Bojko, event/ bridal coordinator. Gina was one of the best stylists I've ever worked with. She listened to me, looked at pictures on my phone, and meticulously worked to create a side-swept style that looked soft yet stayed in place all day long. Gina gave me just the right amount of volume, created a modern knot at the base of my neck, and positioned my curls for a romantic look. Gina's assistant was even kind enough to provide a relaxing hand massage with Aveda hand lotion (one of my favorites) while getting my hair done. Elena and Allison also created beautiful half-updo styles for my two best friends. Kin gave my tomboyish mom a fantastic mature and natural look with Aveda products and the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette we brought with us. All of our appointments were at the same time, so we were in and out in less than 2 hours (bridal hair took the longest). Hair styling ranged from $85 to $125, and makeup was $55 per application. The salon even offered us a small table if we wanted to BYOB. For hair and makeup that lasted 12+ hours, it was well worth it. Highly recommended for special event pampering! read more

Mac MacDaniel is my GUY. Originally at an Aveda salon in Richmond, VA, I was so sad to hear Mac was moving up to Philly. However, I was able to grab an appointment up there when I was visiting Philadelphia over Christmas, and was SO happy to see him again. Mac is a pro with curly haired folks. He is really great at accentuating the curls out of any hair type. He listens to you, works collaboratively to give you exactly what you imagined (and better), and focuses on his work with attention and commitment. Another great part about him is that he can talk your ear off or just let you sit comfortably in the chair in silence if you so choose (Tip: if you really want him to talk, bring up Shakespeare. I came to Adolf Biecker for an 85 minute deep tissue massage last week. I've gotten Swedish massages multiple times, but felt I needed something more invasive to help with some shoulder and back pain. Let's be clear, this isn't a place I would recommend for a large party as the common room was a little smaller than what I've seen, BUT if you're looking to get a high-quality individual or couples massage, I would definitely come here (and recommend Lisa)! I arrived 10 minutes early to my appointment and was quickly greeted by the front desk associates. My host then gave me a brief tour and provided me with a locker and a high-quality robe. I then sat in the dimly lit waiting area which had tea/water, magazines and a comfy couch. My masseuse, Lisa quickly greeted me and then brought me to the room. I cannot say enough about Lisa - she was professional, sweet, and most importantly, knowledgeable.She really made a personalized experience for me by implementing essential oils and hot rocks to help my muscles adjust. Throughout the massage, she ensured I was comfortable and ensured nothing was too strenuous. With that being said, I will definitely be back! read more

While the salon is really nice with high quality products I would not recommend this place for a pedicure. I booked an appointment on a Friday afternoon since my usual nail salon in Rittenhouse was booked up and had no appointments. I told the nail technician what color I wanted - pretty much the same color that was already on my toes but they did not have that color which is fine so she picked out a few colors for me to try which was nice. The reason I gave this review 2 stars is the quality of service for the price. The price for a pedicure is probably one of the most expensive in the Rittenhouse area - I know because I have lived in the city for years and have gone to a lot of the nail salons (just to get an idea how often - I go weekly). The nail tech right away started scrubbing the bottom of my feet before they had even been soaked in water which I thought was odd. After my pedicure my feet still felt rough. Additionally, I also noticed after I left that my toes had not been properly painted. I could have done a better job at home. It has already started chipping and my pedicures usually last a month! Also, there was barely a foot massage and definetly no leg/calf massage. For less than the price I would recommend other nail salons in the area. I know this place is known for their hair salon but if you have pedicures on your menu then you should learn how to properly give one. I will not be turning again to this location. read more
