Beware if you are asked to switch to ADT you could wind up with less security and not even know it.

If I could rank the company less that one star that is what I would rank them. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was not an ADT customer and they acquired Ackerman Security Services which then migrated my account to ADT. After the migration, my app stopped working and I could not get anyone on the phone to resolve the issue. After a few months, I called to cancel the service. They are attempting to charge over $600 for cancellation. read more

We were originally customers of Ackerman Security, and were very pleased with their service before they got bought out by ADT. We became customers of ADT by default, which was beyond our control. We did not have a contract with ADT but they make it mandatory that you speak on the phone with their Account Management team to terminate your service. I have been attempting to cancel my service for 2 months, to no avail. I have called on countless occasions, just to be transferred over and over and placed on hold for over an hour. Even when I requested a return call back, the system called me and placed me back on hold to sit in a queue for over an hour. I feel that this company is intentionally and unlawfully making it impossible for me to terminate this service. A customer service representative advised me that what would happen is that if I don't speak with Account Management or continue to pay, I will be sent to a third party Collections agency. Just check the Better Business Bureau. You will see that they only have an A rating because they go back and resolve the thousands of complaints they get once they're called out. This company is GARBAGE. Customer Service is non-existent and they basically use bully tactics to force people to continue to pay them even after they are no longer doing business with them. read more

Trash. I haven't been connected to the network in months. I haven't gotten a call from ADT to help me with this once. In fact, I have been OVERCHARGED when the system isn't working and NOT keeping my family safe. I have equipment from 2014 and my bill is $61.33/month. We moved recently. We do not need security service now, so I called to cancel. (As I recall you cannot cancel without talking to someone, which they make into an ordeal to get an agent on the phone.) ADT insisted on us paying an extra month, saying this was in their agreement with its customers. I asked that they send us a copy of the agreement and show how we had agreed with it. I still have not received a copy of this agreement. However, they have billed us for the extra month. I do not plan to pay until they indicate that we agreed to this. We will see how this ends. I am sure that they have many more lawyers than we have (we have none), and that they have much more money to put into harassing us than we have to attempt to give them trouble for this kind of practice. In my opinion ADT easily fits the description of being a "customer no service" company. read more

After contacting ADT about two months prior to the expiration of my contract that I would like to cancel services, they are still attempting to collect their monthly charge. ADT took over my acct from Ackerman . It has been all down hill since then. We come in , cut the alarm off and next thing we know the police come . We call and tell ADT that we are cutting the alarm off when we come in each and every time. ADT sent in 4 different repairmen to fix my system . They all claimed they fixed the problem, but yet the Cobb county police kept showing up stating that ADT sent them out. In Cobb County they charge you after 3 false alarms I repeatedly asked ADT to fix the alarm or cut the alarm off on the door that triggers the alarm. They wound not . I endured over a hour on the phone each time even trying to talk to someone. It was absolutely awful , I ended up having to pay Cobb County police 500.00 for the false alarms. ADT promised to reimburse me but eventually sent a letter saying the denied me payment. To add insult to injury , someone named Jaylen called me promising to set everything straight by giving me a free upgrade to their new system . She even sent me videos on how to operate the new system. She promised to be in contact with me to let me know when it could be installed. A cruel joke. She never returned my calls to her extension . You think you have problems, had service installed October 2023, I thought. All I have is the equipment. Had service off and on for four days. Technician was at my home day of install for eight hours. Came around eight a.m. left around 5. Called him to tell him it was not working. He came back the next day, spent another eight hours between my home and Home Depot because he kept getting the incorrect bit for his drill. The day before he disconnected my Ring (which is super sorry) and used the connection that I had a certified electrician put in, which I asked him to take it out. He drilled three holes in my wall, put a light cover on the big hole and left the small one which I had to plug and told me the cleanup crew was coming to clean up the rest of the mess. They never showed up. All this time he is using my electricity to charge his drill. I requested another tech to come and see if he could get it connected. His name was Carlos, he asked me what the upload was, and I said 1. something, he said there was no need for him to come because it would not work, and he did not come. A supervisor showed up some days later and took pictures and said he would get back to me. I never heard from them again. The only thing this equipment has done is tell me when I use the front door or the back door, and part of that unit is down, although they sent me replacement parts which I never used because nothing else was working. The only thing that is working is hanging on my wall using my electricity is the panel, which I don't need with nothing else working beside the bills and the threats telling me the damage that will occur on my credit ratings if I don't pay up. I have excellent credit and I don't know of anything I will need that I can't pay. Your bad rating would really be questionable. I paid you $2.00 and then $69.00 dollars twice for nothing, and paying for electricity your panel is using that I don't know how to take it down. You need to send me a refund, part of my electric bill and come fix it or take it out. According to you I now owe you $2,766.54. Tell me please what is that for? Your salesman sure sold me a $3.00 bill. And I will get outside help to get this situation resolved. * read more

BEWARE!!!!! Please choose another company PLEASE!!!! I wish I could give these cons a 0 star. They are really that bad, honestly. I was told I could transfer the contract to the new owner, in the event I sold the home. Well that's not the truth. Today, I mentioned I was selling the home. I was told I owed $1500 on the remainder of contract and $500 on equipment. I don't recall signing a 3 year contract, yet to have me pay for services I am not receiving is robbery. I then asked if I could transfer the services to the new owner since I'm being forced to pay $1500 for services I am not going to be receiving. I was told NO, the transfer can only take place in the case of a dead spouse! So, basically they are wanting the new owners to sign a new 3 year contact. This should be outlawed. I have been a customer for 2.5 years and I called to cancel my service but I was told I had to pay 278. Which basically pays the end of the contract or I could sign a new contract for 3 years. obviously ADT doesn't trust I would have chosen their company again. I want to tell you how horrible experience I have had with them!!! I was with Ackerman for 15 years and they are now ADT . I want you to know ADT are the worst single business experience I have ever .I have made 6 Phone Calls on hold each time for 55 minutes .They finally sent a representative out but it was the wrong one as it was a sales rep not tech and she couldn't find out any thing about me and said Ackerman files were blocked . I was told from Ackerman dealer you have to trip you alarm to get ADT to even call you . I did and they never even called me then to see if it was a false alarm or if was ok After 6 hours on hold I finally got the business center and she wanted to make it right and have a guy come out last week to change my system battery which I paid over one hundred twenty dollars . He also turned the audio off when he did this change of batteries . I finally got thru to billing after another 55 minutes and the person I spoke to wants me to pay $175.00 to buy out my contract . My reply was good luck with that as I was never even given legal notice you were changed over and if my rates and contract were the same . Five hours of being put on hold and phone records to prove it . Also dishonest and telling I owed money to a company I never signed up with . I was a former client of Ackerman security. Cancelled before ADT acquired them. Apparantly my account was transferred to them. I have never received service, but they keep billing me. I have tried over and over to cancel, but cancellation dept will not answer the phone. I waited over 20 minutes today. Customer service cannot help or cancel. This is very frustrating. We had Ackerman Security as our alarm service for over 40 years. Service and equipment functioned within our expectations. However Ackerman was swallowed by ADT and the problems started. After several false alarms while we were out of state, we called the technician who arrived on August 15. He explained the main control board was shot (after at least 25 years of problem free functioning) and we would need a new one. No problem. Then ADT took over the service. When we had not heard a word about our open service order, I tried calling one of the many "contact" numbers ADT lists on their website. Wait times varied between 45 and 90 minutes. I tried the live chat. The live chat was a joke (on me). After a lengthy discussion the best the operator could do was offer a post office box and instructed me to send my complaint by snail mail. I finally found a number that offered a callback when an operator was free. Not that my problem was resolved in any way, but I was promised ADT would contact me as soon as the new boards came in. They did, about 2 weeks later, but I had already found a local service provider. Then there is the ADT refund policy. If you are even thinking about signing up, read the refund policy very, very carefully. We did not have a contract, thankfully, but we had prepaid 3 months. When I finally did get to speak to a live person to cancel after a 40 minute hold time, she seemed very intent on trying to convince me to get a new system with an upgrade, to find out who my new service provider will be, and how much a new installation will cost. She was not at all interested in our sad and woeful story of trying to get service. We were offered one month refund, but nothing for the 2 months we had paid for and did not have service. I can assure all the readers, I would rather go without than have to endure another attempt to get service from ADT customer service. Oh. And BTW, this is the first time I have reviewed on Yelp. I moved into a new home and thought I would get a security system. I called ADT because they have been around for a long time. Sorry I didn't check the reviews first. A lot ( I mean a lot) of 1 star reviews on yelp and consumer affairs. The sales person quoted me a a quote of 29.99 a month but failed to mention on the equipment you have to pay for. I was also charged $99 upfront The technician came and that's when you get hit with all the costs of window sensors cameras, smoke alarm,security panel, etc, etc. You can pay one lump payment in full or quarterly installments of almost $400.and then I was quoted 59.99 a month in addition. The technicians' computer battery died and he said he had to leave to go home and get it charged. He returns over 4 hrs later and said his car broke down. I had to stay at home and wait for him to return. When he finally returned He had trouble getting a signal or something and by that time I said I just wanted to cancel. He got his supervisor on the phone to try and get me to change my mind but I was was so frustrated I just wanted to cancel at that point. I had to call customer service to get my account credited but they said it would take 30 days. In addition they said they were going to do a soft credit check but in fact it was a hard credit check. I hope I don't get the runaround about getting my cc credited. Not a good experience. Buyer Beware!! They tell you one thing on the phone but then when the technician comes to install ,the prices change. read more

The absolutely worst business practices I've ever encountered. I received a bill from these guys when I had NEVER requested service from them. They bought Ackerman, with whom I did have an account. They will NOT let me cancel. I have spent more than TWO HOURS over SIX PHONE CALLS, and they WILL NOT CANCEL my so-called account! I continue to receive bills. They will NOT let anyone cancel in a way that provides a paper trail (i.e., via email), so they are free to ignore your phone calls. I can't prove that this is their normal business practice, but I believe it is and that THEY ARE CROOKS. read more

We sold our home in Gwinnett County in February 2022 and had 30 day occupancy post closing. A week after closing an ADT sales agent came to our home thinking we were new owners and tried to sell us security service. We told them we were not interested. The agent continued to knock on door and we had to ask him to leave. We then noticed both our yard signs had been taken. I wonder who took our signs? We callEd ADT to let them know what happened and they said they would send new signs. Never happened. We are now completely moved out and called to cancel service since we no longer occupy the house and we were told they need 30 day notice. We are switching to Simplisafe. No more ADT. read more

Horrible service...I was given the run around every time I called! I was in my window to cancel my service and they said they were going to fix all the problems. So for the third time I waited for a tech to come fix things and waited for two hours for a tech to come install the camera and secondary keypad. He came and said he didn't have any of the equipment?! Now they are saying they can't honor the camera. I'm out of my window to cancel now and they won't let me out of the contract. My Alarm system wasn't communicating with them since December 27 due to the outage in my area and they didn't even notify me or trying to fix their issues! If I wouldn't call them to fix my ADT App I wouldn't find out and I don't know how long I would be without security system and paying them for no reason!! These people are beyond horrible. I've had ADT a little over a year and never had to call in for an issue. Two of my outdoor cameras weren't working and I encountered two extremely rude, unhelpful representatives. The first representative was asking me to pretty much climb on my roof to get a model number. Shouldn't they already have that on file? They installed it. I asked for a supervisor named Bryan who is in Jacksonville, FL. This guy started to yell at me telling me it was not possible to get someone to look at my cameras the next business day. People use security services for 24/7 security, not every other day, when we feel like securing you. This is a culture that is not concerned about your security. If you're a small business run far far away from ADT. Not only do they charge you a monthly fee for their services, if you have any type of entry system that requires scanning or swiping you also get charged PER ENTRY!! So yes you are charged twice for the exact same service that they are a third party to. read more

I'm a long time customer and have been for years before moving to Georgia. I scheduled a 0830am appointment to upgrade cameras and to add two more cameras; it's now 09:00 tech still not onsite. Call ADT Customer Service at 0900 for status; stated that rep was 15 min out. (45 min after appointment time) just more run around. So, we cancel appointment, and from the views ADT seems to not care what the customer thinks. Nest cameras are looking pretty good to me now. read more

We were long time ADT customers who just moved. We were paying $35/month for the service, and just wanted to transfer our existing service/plan to our new home. Basic door/window sensors. We were told over the phone that we could keep everything the same. The agent on the phone then ran a hard credit pull on my wife, WITHOUT CONSENT, even though we already had an established account. This past Saturday the technician arrived for the installation. He first tried to sell us $11,023 worth of equipment. Yes that's eleven-THOUSAND. After we said no, he tried to sell us $5,247 worth of equipment. We said no again, and he proceed to install the basic hardware (which still wouldn't cover all of the doors windows). He then handed us a contract to sign for $52/month. We told him we're not signing anything unless its $35/month. He said to go ahead and sign it and we could call the main office Monday to have them adjust it. We still refused, and called the main office right in front of him. The phone agent told us NOT to sign anything at that time. The installer then called his boss, who told him if we're not going to sign, to pull all the equipment. The technician then pulled all of the equipment and left holes in the wall where the old equipment was (ADT equipment was already installed in the home). The installer tried to use scare tactics on my wife multiple times to try and persuade her to purchase additional equipment. I just wanted to let you know that the tactics and behavior of this installer (and his boss), made you lost a long-time customer. Hopefully you don't treat all your old customers this way, who are simply trying to transfer their service into a new home. read more

Terrible customer service to a customer that's has signed two contracts with them. Don't understand how to open and close accounts properly. Representatives give you the wrong information and then blame you for trusting their word. Give you the run around about issues that's they created and cannot solve within 60 days. Expect you to abide by a contract, but cannot give you good customer service. Trusted my life and my family's life with these people and I rather go with no alarm system at all. Who wants my home security service, because clearly ADT doesn't. ... years later. I'm updating my review (from 1 star to 3) to say that the last two years having them customer service has improved. I was warned not to go with ADT but I let a fast talking sales rep, Randle Jackson, convince me into this service. Should have paid closer attention because there was only a 3 day window to get out of a 3 year contract. When I called on the 6th day bc I was unhappy with the service, Randle Informed me that my 3 days were up and that I should take care. All those deals he claimed to give was false. I'm stuck in this over price deal for the next 3 years. This was an expensive lesson for me but doesn't have to be for you. Had to cancel the service after 2 years of poor customer service, defective products, and an unreliable alarm. At least 3 times during our service the burglar alarm (the loudest whole house alarm) went off without provocation and would not reset or turn off for over 20 minutes. When we called ADT they were unhelpful and incompetent. After waking up all of our neighbors and every dog in a 3 mi. radius we finally figured out how to turn it off ourselves. A really poorly run company that charges a premium for bad customer service- we're switching to Ackerman. read more

After 10 years of service I finally canceled ADT in search of another service. Several times after the alarm is set I'd come home only to find it unarmed. Happened after a couple of vacations, not comforting to know you are not protected when you are away. That's what it's for. I spoke to customer service and they act like you've never set or delt with alarm issues. They sent a tech out to check and he found nothing wrong. They never notified me that the system was unarmed even through they knew we were away. Since this is the second time on am extended vacation that it wasn't on when I returned. I asked for a 3 month credit they said No. After 10 years you'd think they would want to keep me. I canceled on the spot and they wanted to charge an additional 30 days. No freakin way! Horrible service techs and unbelievably ignorant customer service. Service tech installed alarm and on same day we armed and left house. Once armed and left house, within 30minutes we're called by ADT our alarm had been tricked. found out later that eve it was poor installation of motion detectors. Therefore, we can only arm with "stay" in order to bypass motion sensors, ADT cant fix. One night the alarm went off for no reason, we could not turn off so called ADT who were incredibly rude and ignorant in assisting in any manner to the issue. i asked to speak to supervisor, the person working in customer service said ok and actually placed me back in que to only speak to another customer service provider. I never was connected to supervisor nor was the issue resolved. i had to pull the circuit to turn off alarm. No more ADT. read more

I had ADT in MN and they were the worst company ever. I recently moved to Ga and called around for quotes on security services and they were the cheapest. When the sales rep came by he promised that I would have better service gave me his personal number if I had issues. Well today I walk in to my home only to find that the system isn't working. Called ADT and they can't send anyone out til Sunday. Which is horrible since my house was broke into and the purpose of the system. They don't have anyone in the office to help and continue to pass me around. The manager is being lazy and doesn't want to come to the phone to talk to me and find a solution. Thanks Janet in FOCS. Wow talk about bait and switch! I called to get their core system installed and advised the sales rep that I would like 2 extra security cameras installed. He said I could talk about it with my installer when he arrived. He also said I'd get a discount because we belong to USAA. So after a couple of reschedules, I was told the installer would be out between 8-12. At 10 am on the day of install I get a call that the installer called out sick and they will need to reschedule. Thanks for wasting my morning and making me readjust my work schedule. I kinda lost it on the phone and then they found an installer that could come out. The installer arrived and I asked about installing 2 additional cameras and he said he could install them no problem, but it would be at full price without the USAA discount. Wtf? So I call ADT and tell them what happened, and the customer service people said I needed to order at the time of setting up service. I explained I tried to do that but they wouldn't budge. So I cancelled the install, and sent the installer on his way. I'm sure they will be sending to bill for this later for a contract that hasn't been executed. ADT is a legitimate scam. When I had the services installed there was a 3 year non negotiable contract. 15 months into the contract I sold my home and had to move into an apartment. (Where I do not need a security system.) There was a $1,000 cancellation penalty, non-negotiable and was told 100 times it's 'Industry standard.' Do yourself a favor and go with Simply safe - 1/4 the monthly price and no contract. read more
