I contacted ADT in late June 2026 to obtain pricing for reactivating an existing ADT system in a home I had recently purchased. After several missed promised callbacks, an appointment was eventually scheduled for July 10. I specifically requested a phone call before the technician arrived, but no call was received. During the appointment, the technician initially explained that monitoring required a 12-month commitment. I declined to move forward under those terms. After speaking with a manager, the technician returned and presented what I understood to be a different arrangement that would allow my wife and me to evaluate the system before deciding whether to continue. Based on those discussions, I agreed to activate service. When I later contacted ADT to cancel service based on my understanding of the agreement, I was informed for the first time that ADT considered the account to be under a 12-month contract. This was not consistent with my understanding of the terms presented during the installation visit. Since then, I have made multiple attempts to resolve the situation through customer service, the cancellation department, and a formal written complaint. Unfortunately, I have not received a meaningful response and have been forced to escalate the matter through the Better Business Bureau and the Kansas Attorney General Consumer Protection Division. My advice to prospective customers is to carefully read every document, request copies of everything at the time of signing, and verify all cancellation and contract terms in writing before agreeing to service. read more

On February 4, 2025, at 8:14 EST, I spoke to a billing representative, Benjamin Munera, Employee #222743. I requested in writing that my account be audited because ADT has been withdrawing excessive funds from my VISA account--$75.97 and $158.97. The bill was not due until February 18, 2025, yet the payments were taken on February 1, 2025, which is 17 days prior to the due date--this is unacceptable. Firstly, I do not have any recurring bills on my VISA or checking account. I have been a member with ADT for over 13 years and have always made payments via my checking account by logging into the system and paying the bill when it is due, not 17 days prior. Furthermore, I believe ADT should replace my old equipment and refund the additional fees that have been charged, as this was not what was presented to me when the agreement was made. I was comfortable paying $143.33 versus the current amount of $234.97. ADT is not providing any additional monitoring services than before. This bill is too high. On 04/14/26 the SWAT Team, Bearcat, and 20+ cops came on my property and executed a search warrant next door. The police were in my front yard and driveway for at least 20 minutes. My ADT Cameras caught NOTHING. They stopped working on 03/31/26. My Ring cameras caught almost everything on my property. I called ADT on 04/18/26 to cancel and they used high pressure sales tactics and made it difficult to cancel. It took more then a simple phone call to cancel this service. They kept me on the phone and continued to pressure me into staying. The rep refused to take NO for an answer, so I said "just cancel it, ok!" and I disconnected. The Rep never canceled the service even though I made it very clear that I wanted it canceled. I had to call again a week later. The new rep said that because I refused to stay on the phone and listen to the sales pitch, it was never canceled. Further, they refused to recognize the cancel date as 04/18/26 because I did not stay on the phone and listen to their high pressure sales jargon. Another rep called me later and again tried high pressure sales tactics to entice me to stay. I firmly said NO, and then ADT decided to recognize the cancelation. I still got billed for another month. Even tough it was to be a month to month service they still billed for another month after cancelation. Also, during my 4 years of ADT Service, the cameras stopped working multiple times. The cameras only hold so much footage per month and then they stop working. They have to be manually restarted thru the My ADT Control site before they start recording again. My Ring cameras don't do this. I've had Ring for 8 years and they've never stopped working. They're low maintenance for a lower price. My ADT service went from $80/month, to $42. My Ring service went from $11/month to $23. I'll never use ADT again. im about to close my account due to the data breach and they let my wifes information get out when my wife calls to get it resolved adt told her that they wont do anything about it. One person says that they dont see it but when she gets transferred another persons says that they see the email. but wants to sit there and say we cant do anything about the stuff getting out there. Horrible experience. Customer wait times are forever. They cannot keep your address correct; seem to have administrative issues. They promise and on-site technician but instead "show up" with a virtual tech trying to resolved by phone. If you want true security, you should think twice. read more

Horrendous. Avoid at all costs. There is no money-back guarantee within six months like they claim. If you're dissatisfied, they must approve your dissatisfaction - which they won't. Not only that, they sell your personal information to ADT solar - maybe more companies. I have only been a customer for a month and was spammed by them twice just today (it's a little bit after noon at this point). I'm guessing they'll sell my information to more companies. Their customer service is hit or miss. Either you get a complete jerk or you might get lucky to get someone that at least pretends to care. Either way - they can't do anything. Their messaging to their customers is: We don't care and we can't do anything to help. It just depends who you get on the other line on how they deliver that message. You'll either hear: Go screw yourself, you're locked in or We're very sorry about our service, perhaps you'd like to buy more of our stuff that might make it better? Their technology sucks too. The installer that came to my house said don't ever use and ADT doorbell... even thought that's what was being installed. He said to use a Google doorbell because ADT can't rely on theirs to work... which I found out first hand after an incident at my home that they are not reliable.... which is why I wanted to cancel.... but that's not a valid reason to cancel. What's even weirder is how they needed to alter my address to not my real address to avoid conflicts with Safe Street or something like that. Basically most of my information had to be slightly altered to get through legal loopholes. It has been shady since the beginning. I've made a huge mistake by purchasing this system. I hope whoever is reading this doesn't make the same mistake. I can't cancel without them charging thousands of dollars, so I'm stuck for a while..... but if you do make my same mistake by signing up with ADT, see their terrible service, then decide you want to cancel, I was just told by customer service that you only have a 15 DAY WINDOW to cancel or you're signed up for another THREE YEARS!! I've set a reminder on my calendar for January 15th, 2026 to cancel my service. I advise you do the same or they'll screw you again. This company will go down the way of all these old companies that try to screw their customers for every dime they can. It's just a matter of time before their customer-centric competitors take over. I can't speak to the actual responsiveness of ADT in the event of an alarm, however I can say the customer service is horrible, which makes me doubt the quality of their care and responsiveness. I was charged more than double the retail price of a Google Nest camera $199 when you can get 1 for $99 or 2 for $189 - so more than double what shows on both ADT's website and Google's. I have spent HOURS on the phone getting transferred around between Sales to Billing to Tech Support - no one will help me! Clearly, I was overcharged, it shows on my contract, which I was never even sent a copy of until my last conversation with customer service (seems like a breech of contract right there to not provide the customer with this). Finally, a supposed supervisor said that someone from the local ADT office would contact me about this within 48 hours and that was Monday, after ONE HOUR AND 22 MINUTES on the phone. This was the fourth phone call to get this resolved, too. The guy that installed my system seemed great and we gave him a great review initially, but when we contacted him about the overcharge within 3 days of getting it, he said there was nothing he could do because he already gave us discounts. So...you overcharge us for some things then discount us on others?? This is not logical nor good customer service. I have had the worst experience with ADT. I was lied to broke several things that were not true upon set up of services. My alarm Was not Natalie's properly I was able to enter any code to disable alarm for months. I called the first week of installation to have serviced cancelled no one ever showed and the services were not disconnected but yes I was charged for a non working service. To my surprise Months later I decided to stay because a what I thought was a great representative corrected the problem and had someone to come out and fixed the problem, has become an EPiC fail. She set up an separate account and sent me to collections while I have an active account with them. I'm unable to get help from the costumer service department and was told I have to mail a letter in 2022, to get assistance. I have sent mail to 3190 south Vaughn and have not had any respond as of yet. so disappointed this is the behavior from a company of your status!! I would love to here from corporate. read more

I have been recieving multiple mails from them about my system stiill uses 3 G and their system no longer support that and will need the upgraded version. Their latest mail was dated March 6, so I finally called and spoke to Albaro and made an appointment to have their tech come over and update my system today between 12-4 pm. At 4:18, I called their company asking why their tech did not show up nor did I receive a cancellation call. Well, John said that I no longer needed it since it is updated in Dec. 10, 2022. I asked why I continue to receive their mail stating that I still had 3 G and responded with this is computer generated and they have no control. It's been 3 months and still not updated to their system? So I asked to speak to their manager for the no show and for their system not being updated. How can I trust a company like this to watch my house when they are so flaky? I was on hold for 30 minutes and no manager even bothered to pick up their line. So I made another call to speak to their manager and still again put on hold. I wanted to cancel my account but no one in accounting is answering either. Is their anyone working at all? Tell me again how they manage to watch our houses if they can't even answer their phones? I give this company a Zero star ! read more

If I could give a zero score, I would. Not only are you on hold FOREVER, but the customer service representatives give misinformation. When I asked to speak to a supervisor about my bill, I was on hold for 35 minutes. When I called a separate time, I was told 'they do not have supervisors.' I've been quoted a different monthly bill EACH TIME I call to dispute a charge. I've been offered promotions that disappear after a month. Their billing practices are PREDATORY. I live in Los Angeles. I have had ADT as my home alarm company for many years. The contract was originally signed by my mother-in-law. She passed away a year and a half ago. I called then to switch the name over. I was told "no problem". But it never happened. I recently switched my home insurance company and they wanted to see that the alarm contract was in my name. I called ADT. A local sales rep (Tim Maher) responded. He stated they couldn't just switch the names out but that I had to get a new contract with them. It was all downhill after that. Tim Maher was the most incompetent sales person I have ever encountered. Every time I asked for something that his competitor offered Tim stated that it couldn't be done and I should go with the competitor (ACS). ACS offered to take over and upgrade the ADT system at no cost and monthly monitoring for less money than I was paying ADT, which was $53.85 a month. ACS was $40 for monthly monitoring plus adding cellular was another $10 a month. So, much better service and equipment for less than I am paying currently. Again, Tim Maher said they couldn't/wouldn't match that price and I should go with ACS. Then he sent me a follow up email stating his boss approved my request and they would put in the cellular equipment at no charge and match the $50 a month charge. He also stated that the $200 fee for coming out and checking the system was not negotiable. He later said his manager gave his OK to not charge me anything. But when Tim emailed me the contract the $200 charge was there. Tim also stated the minimum contract length was two years. He said they wouldn't negotiate that term. I said that was a deal breaker. Later they changed it to one year. BTW; the contract showed the "Seller" was ADT Security Services with an address in Aurora, Colorado. I asked Tim to fax me the contract. He said he emailed it to me. I never got it. He later told me he sent it...but to someone else. My email is my full name with my middle initial. He left my middle initial out...he sent my confidential info to someone with my same name. What an idiot. It then gets worse. On the old system I prepay the monthly monitoring charge. The last payment of $53.85 was paid on January 27. I also paid the new $50 monthly charge on February 5. I wanted a prorated refund on the $53.85 charge. I called the ADT customer service number. And a woman named Lynette said she couldn't look into it as when the old account was closed around February 5 all records were "purged". After much back and forth (with me stating someone must have access to my old closed account) she said no. All information regarding that account was no longer accessible. I explained that was not possible and possibly she didn't have access to it but someone can access that closed account. I asked to speak with her supervisor. She said a supervisor would call me the next day. Lynette called me the next day...not the supervisor. She stated the records were purged and there was no need to talk to a supervisor. Shortly after that I received an email asking me to fill out a questionnaire regarding ADT's service. I filled it out and it was a very negative response from me. A couple of days later I received a follow up email from Juanita Fauveir, a manager at ADT stating she would like to call me so that she could better understand what happened. That was on a Friday. I answered her and also tried calling her but there was no voicemail so I called her again on Monday...no answer again and no voicemail. I did this same routine everyday (call and email) and finally she called me today (Friday). I explained what happened...starting with the horrendous service from Tim Maher and then relating my conversations with Lynette. Well it turns that Juanita is the supervisor to Lynette but Lynette didn't relate our conversations to her but to a "lead" associate. My opinion of Lynette and the "lead"person is they have absolutely no common sense. Juanita was lovely and a pleasure to talk to (it just took too long for her to get back to me). She also stated she will listen to all my previous phone conversations with ADT and better training will be forthcoming to the custom service associates. All financial disparities have been taken care of. They did charge my credit card for the $200 installation but that was reversed and I did get a credit for my overlapping monthly payments. All in all...a horrible experience and my recommendation is to go with another alarm company...and not ADT. read more

ADT is by far the worst in security services. Customer service just puts customers on hold for endless hours, transfers them to several different people, and then disconnects the phone. If you call back, it just starts all over again. This is typical, I checked with BBB and found several complaints about this. Nothing can get resolved, you are paying for a service that does not work, and if you call to try to find a resolution, well, read what I wrote above. This is what happens when a company traps you in a contract. Now they have a way to charge you if you try to fix the issue or cancel the service that does not work. Fassholes. read more

I couldn't help but notice the number of people giving ADT low scores. You can add my name to the list. This company has horrible customer service and really doesn't care about their customers one bit. Back in March, I notified them that I was moving out of my retail space because I could no longer afford the rent. I asked to have the service turned off which they replied no problem as long as I paid the $3,000 penalty for early termination. I had already purchased their alarm system outright and paid for 2 1/2 years of monitoring services. When I tried working out a reasonable cancellation penalty, they wouldn't budge. Their comment was you signed a contract. Considering the number of business failing right now due to the Covid pandemic, they are extremely hubris and disingenuous. After years as a customer ADT told me I needed to buy a complete system upgrade this past November for nearly $1,500. This was their requirement not mine. I now have ongoing problems with false fault alarm alerts awakening me in the middle of the night with lost hours of sleep. I have had three service calls since installation, each requiring a half day of waiting for the tech to show, six sensors replaced and the issue continues with nights of lost sleep. I asked to be released from my contract and they have refused unless I pay them a $1,300 termination fee. Never use this company. Impossible to deal with. Stay away! read more

You do not want to do business with this company. They will lie to you and and possibly steal your money. My initial contact person was selling a combination ATT/ADT package. He lied about how much the contract was actually going to cost me hoping I would never discover it until my credit card statement came in and then it would be too late to cancel and I would be stuck with a $71.99 bill for the next two years. But, he was wrong. They installed the system on May 25, 2021. On May 26th. they charged my credit card $85.19 for 5 weeks of service. On May 27, I determined the system they installed was very poor and inadequate. I called and cancelled the contract on May 28th, three days after installation and within the allowable cancellation time stated in the contract. They removed the system on June 8, 2021. The $85.19 service fee was to be returned by June 14, 2021 as per their own words and contract. All during the month of June, I made many phone calls, talked to many people, was put on hold and then disconnected. Told someone would call me and they never did. Told my money would be refunded on a certain date and it never was. Finally, on July 21, 2021 I called the ADT corporate office and my deposit was finally returned on July 24, 2021, more than seven weeks after I had cancelled. I feel certain, that if I had not kept up the pursuit, ADT would have stolen my deposit and never looked back. ADT is the absolute worst business I have ever done business with. BEWARE!! I moved to a new state and had my ADT security system installed. I moved 1 year later to a new home and ADT made me start my 3 year contract over again. Two years after that I moved out of state and I again had to start my 3 year contract over again! What a JOKE! I guess the joke is on me!! I finally got sick of dealing with ADT. I called and asked what it would take to pay off my contract. I had a balance owing that had a service call on it. I was told $581 to pay it off and be out of the contract. I told them I would discuss with my husband and get back to them. I called about 1 week later and the amount was now $624. I did the math and it was the difference of one month of service. Because I HATE ADT so much I asked many times, Are you sure? Is this the correct amount to get me out of your contract and be done with ADT forever? I was told yes. I paid the $624. Two weeks later I saw another charge for $209 on my credit card. I was furious and I called to find out why. I was told the $624 was only for the balance of the contract and not for the service call and open invoice. I found out that they record every call and I requested to listen to the recordings. Rose, a supervisor, told me she wasn't sure how to get me to listen to the call and I asked her how long before I would hear back from her. She said 48 hours. In the meantime I received a letter in the mail asking why I was cancelling my service and to call and discuss it. I called and was told that the contract is a legally binding agreement and I was charged all that was due. They told me if I wanted to hear the phone calls that I had made I would have to subpoena them!!!! What a racket! Not a single person was interested in my side of the story. I would NEVER recommend ADT. My 3 year contract turned into a 7 year contract. Moral of the story--don't EVER use ADT! read more

I called on 8/18/14 to cancel my service. They gave me a specific date. Fine. I got The Monitoring Center to come out right away and install. It's been nearly two months and I got a bill from ADT today- no refund but a bill. I call up and they said I had to talk with someone- I said I already did- I can't help it if your company is incompetent and one department doesn't talk to another. No, you need to talk to ...fine- switch me over- I am yelling at this point. This is not the first problem I have had with them. Three months ago my battery starting beeping. I couldn't find out where to replace it, they gave me incorrect info over the phone, and I had to wait with a beeping alarm every time I got home. Plus there was no way to turn it off that would last over 6 hours. So I turn off the beeping when I got home and it'd wake me up in the middle of the night. They finally came over a week later to fix it. Then two weeks after that they send me a bill for $150 that I never agreed to pay. I call up to protest and they do not reassure me. They will have to listen to the voice recorded calls. Eventually they gave it to me- because it was gone from my next bill- not because someone actually called to take care of it personally.
