Good luck trying to cancel your service. I am currently not under contract and pay month to month. Cancelling should be easy, right? Wrong. I politely listened to the first set of canned reasons why I shouldn't cancel my ADT services (and they were mostly terrible reasons). When I referenced my two main beefs (their terrible Yelp reviews and that I wanted to upgrade to Pulse WITHOUT entering a 2-year contract), he didn't address my beefs and instead gave some corny speech about ADT being the largest security company in the country for a reason. :| Anyway, at some point I explained that I was in a hurry and had to wrap this up before my lunch break was over. But he continued to talk over me and kept ignoring my request to cancel. Well, my lunch break came and went and I am still an ADT customer... for another day. I don't like having to write a negative review in regards to a company that is the provider for my home security but I have had nothing but negative experiences with ADT since signing up and having my home security system installed. First off my original appointment for installation was scheduled for a few days after my consultation for the system I was having installed. The tech left a note at the door and never called as I requested upon his arrival due to no doorbell and I can't hear a knock at my door when upstairs. Then when I called they scheduled my two weeks later for my installation. My technician for the installation was nice but couldn't show me the features to the pulse system because he couldn't log into the ADT website... I paid upfront for the system and for the first three months of service only to get a bill a week later stating the I owed $206.32 so I called and listen to the automated system which stated I owed only $36.32 as to which I still thought was wrong so I spoke to a person in customer service who informed me that the $36.32 was an additional fee that was added in on my contract by the installing technician without my approval or notification. I had the customer service representative reverse the charge and told him that if they are going to change the terms of service and charge me an additional fee which he didn't even know what it was for that they needed my permission first. So folks here it is last but not least I decided to add additional exterior cameras and had another rude short tempered ADT estimator come out by the way who was 11/2 hours late with no call I had to call the main office to find out what time he was coming if at all only to have this man take the wrong order for the technician who showed up this morning on time with a call while in route only to find out it was an order for interior camera not the two exterior cameras I had ordered. I politely asked the technician to fix the work order and have someone call me when they get the right work order and a technician who does the exterior installation. All being said folks please check your ADT bills carefully as I am and I hope their security system and responses are far better than the quality of service they provide or we are all in a jam when we really need it to work!!! So in april of 2011 we had a break in. We decided we needed to feel more secure so we got ADT... we thought "who could we call?" well ADT of course! its a huge name for security systems. Well that was our mistake. Maybe if we had done some research we could have seen all the negatives posted about them. So we got ADT to feel secure. We did have a few false alarms in the 4 years we had it... maybe like 2, which ADT did send someone out to check out but it takes about a 4 days if not more because they work to their own schedule and not yours. So anyway, here we are paying for ADT for security so that when the day came that our house was broken into the police would be notified and we would be notified... Well that didnt happen as planned. Somebody broke into our house a couple weeks ago and the motion sensor which was supposed to catch him walking through our dining room ( which he crossed at least 2 or 3 times) never detected him. We called ADT that night to send someone out ASAP because we didnt feel secure and They couldnt send anybody out untill thursday (this happened on saturday). Are you kidding! 5 days later! We had to leave our house and know that our system was faulty and know that this guy knew what we had and could potentially come back in somehow. So I told ADT that i didnt want much from them. All i wanted was for them to give me 2 free window sensors to cover the windows that sensor should have covered. 2 SENSORS! And they wouldn't budge. They would rather lose a 4 year customer. The customer service is HORRIBLE. They say sorry over and over but you can tell they don't mean it even one bit. It's like customer support are just a bunch of brainwashed zombies that just repeat stuff they've been programmed to say. Funny thing is that when I said i was going to cancell they seemed indifferent and when i finally called back to cancel once i installed my frontpoint system they just cancelled without any headaches. They practically said "ok cook thanks for the 4 years you paid us 50 dollars a month while we did nothing". Do yourself a favor and keep looking... Personally I went with frontpoint and i already feel happier and the system is a lot nicer than what I had with ADT. read more

If it was possible to give ADT zero stars, I would. They are the most inept company, with incredibly poor service that I can't believe they are still in existence. From their online support to their maintenance/service personnel no-one want to take any responsibility or is empowered to do so. This is worse than United Airlines! The cost of my original - and very extensive alarm in '12 was $30K+. To this day (6/4/17), it has continued to have problems. No-one wants to take responsibility and everyone keeps passing the buck. we have been customers of ADT for over 20 years. Our system was working fine until a couple of months ago when it began to try and reprogram itself in the middle of the night. ADT claimed it was a programing issue but didn't have the equiptment to fix it because of the age of the system. They now want us to pay to upgrade the system when they are offering systems at huge discounts to new customers. Bottom line ADT appears not to appreciate loyalty so we are looking to change. Problem is ADT has bought up many of the larger companies. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION = SUCKS! Don't get stuck with a company that won't be there when you need them. read more

As I said last time, ADT cancelled on me. Today is the rescheduled time from 12 pm to 5 pm. Of course, as expected, after waiting for 3 and 1/2 hours, ADT called and cancelled my appointment. If I have a heart problem, I would have been dead by now because of these heart aches! Again, no available technician. Again, apology apology apology and meanwhile, they're sending my bill on time. After 24 years of service with ADT, I've decided to change companies. ADT has the worst customer service available. I have had a record of 4 appointments with 4 no shows, with the ADT office saying they tried to call (gave me # they called), but as I was waiting 5 HOURS each time, and had the phone next to me, which had no call missed message, what can I say, but they are liars and cheats. They take your maintenance account payment and then do not provide maintenance. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! read more

I also wish there was a zero rating. I have been trying for over 4 years to work with ADT. We finally got someone on the line and cancelled June 14 and they still took our quarterly prepayment for July through September. Even though I was assured that I would be charged only 25 dollars and the automatic payments would stop. We had not been able to use the system for 4 weeks prior to that because the tech who cam out in April had to get some "part" he didn't have with him and said he'd call the next day to make another appointment. We never heard from him again and when I called to cancel our service, I was told, I should have called the tech back. When I once again got a human on the line to get my money refunded, I was told it would take 21 days to "process" this. I'm thinking it took them less than 21 minutes to "process" my payment. I have been on hold for approximately 2 hours total over 3 days to finally be told that I would have my refund within 3-5 business days from today. (August 14, 2014) If you are concerned about the safety of your home, get a dog or work with a company who can at least answer the phone and give you a written contract you can actually read before signing. read more

Danger. Extremely sub-par company. They are in fact, selling a false sense of security. I hired them to install an extensive and expensive system. Within one day, my system began arming and disarming itself on its own. When I called customer service, They were rude, and said a faulty key fob way likely responsible and that, "It happens". On day two, they sent a third party tech who immediately demanded a credit card payment of $300 before he could begin diagnosing the problem. ADT should be ashamed of themselves for contracting their customers out to Safe Streets USA. I had NO IDEA when I called ADT to have a system installed that they would contract me out. The Safe Street Rep arrived and gave me a different price than ADT quoted me. They installed multiple sensors that did not work resulting in false alarms and a bills of $400 from my police department which they refuse to pay for. Even found out hat the glass breaker sensors I paid $700 for were never hooked up to the ADT monitoring system. I've only had this system since November and I've had to have 4 technicians come to my house 4 additional times to make repairs ! On one occasion I scheduled they never showed up !! ADT came out put in a security system and it hasn't been working since they put it in- after ADT put it in I called the next day and said it wasn't working and they said there was a systemwide upgrade. The person working for Adt did not tell me that. When I opened my mailbox the next day there was an offer that was much better and half price than the offer that I was given. I called ADT and I asked them to match the Adt flyer option that was in my mailbox since the system hasn't worked yet because of the upgrade and the operator at Adt John said he couldn't match the offer go ahead and cancel ADT!! Terrible customer service and the operator threatened me on the phone .. saying if you cancel you won't be able to get Adt again!! Absolutely disgusting absolutely horrible customer service great news for other security companies please do not use Adt - it is shame since They spent so much money on marketing and advertising. I was with Brinks later purchased by ADT. ! was with them for 18 years. We made an appointment for repair on Thursday morning.We waited from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon nobody came. They said your appt. is Friday. My wife will not make a Friday appt. she works Fridays. On another appt. the repair man came quick. He said the office people want a signature from me for another 2 years before doing anything. I was with them for 18 years. This made me decide ADT will be the last one I will consider. I just got off the phone with ADT's "customer service". I put that in quotes because I feel its misleading. I felt like a bother, a hassle and an idiot for giving this company my business and money. I asked when my contract expired and I was told April 2016, I was surprised because I was told by our sales person when we moved and took the service with us that it was a 2 year contract. My phone call was more or less to confirm I completed my contract so I was a little surprised. I was told that only California has 2 year contracts, I didnt hear the rep the first time because she spoke over me and said politely "excuse me?" I was then spoke to like I was hearing impaired and unable to function in society. Whatever I thought, you hate your job and obviously are taking it out on me. So I then asked how much is the early termination fee for the 11 months I have remaining on my "contract"? $450+ she says very hastily like I was wasting her time again and that the idea that I was making her do something she gets paid for was so horrible of me. I hung up at this point. She did not deserve my time or my pleasantries. I contacted @askADT and @ADT on twitter and got an immediate response from @askADT telling me to use @ADT to be of further assistance. I sent over 10 tweets and havent heard a peep. Anywho, I pay $52.00 a month and havent armed my alarm in over a year regularly... I may have used it once in the last 6 months because I decided I was paying for it, might as well, but that didnt last. $52x11 is $572, so this early termination fee is a scam! oh boy youre going to charge me for basically the rest of my contract so I can get out 11 months early!?!?!?!?! Thats a scam if you ask me. I had a cell phone contract I ended 2 years early and was paying $135 per month and as most people know the early termination fee is $350. Less than 3 months of the remaining contract. Just want to share my story and prevent others of doing the same mistake of signing the contract with ADT. Past three weeks even more we are going through the hell with ADT. Before writing the review, I have tried to communicate and asking for their help to fix the own system which we are paying for for more that a week !! No success, there are no one to talk. They are being nice and curious only when they want you to sign in with their company. 3 weeks ago we have started having problems with system, numerous times technicians came to deal with the problem, no results and very time each technician would refer to different problem. So on their 6th which we have waiting for little more than a week they were supposed to replace the parts, but the came in to site without pars stating it's in the office and we would need to come another time. Living in a hell and going through constant noise, I was nervous and mad enough not let them go and insisted some one from the company to bring the parts. YEAH, they brought the parts, looked like they have fixed the problem and left, within 30 min the same problem occurred. Right away i have called the service center, and they said i need to wait another week to have technicians to come i did not have another choice ether keep going through the same hell until the next service date. Finally the date i was waiting for came, they gave me a time frame from 8 am to 12 pm. I was waiting for then from 8 am even called to follow up and got feedback that tech is on the way. Around 9.15 am called back again to see where the tech is, operator told me that tech is being late. And then I called again around 11 am and here is highlight of the whole story: Operator told me that the technician is left the site because no one opened the door. I have asked what time was he there, because I was alert all this time waiting for then and calling the service center. The answer was 10.50 am. And at 10.50 am i was outside right in front of the main gate, no one was there !! I have requested to have tech to come back, which I doubted that he was there, however they said that I need to wait for another week to have service rescheduled. SO another week of nightmare !!! From 11 am unrill 2 pm I was on the phone with them seeking for help, no one was willing to help, so they left me with the only option is to wait another week. I would strongly advise before signing in with ADT think twice. I was considering to have them for office as well, but have learned my lesson. I purchased my new home and I've been referral from my realtor agent the representative on the phone was very nice to explain everything but 24 months obligation and 75 percent cancellation fee if you want to disconnect the technician that arrived at my home came just to find a better system than what they have to offer already installed in my home they trying to sell upgrades that not necessary to my system he presented me three upgrade options that I already had in about $1800-$3000 difference between the packages when I Refuse to sign on the 24 month agreement that I never been notified from the rap on the phone he called his supervisor trying to give me the runaround and nothing been done and he just left and now I'm trying to reach that representative and I get on the answering machine they charge my card twice two different charges and nobody is answering so I can get my money back I would not recommend this company in anyway bad customer service switch and bait system of sale beware from that company read more

I never bother to write Yelp reviews. But this office inspired me to. They sent an installation person who cut a wire that shut off our heat/air system. They also sent a salesperson who begged us for referrals, offered to get us a discount on extra alarm sensors, and then told us he couldn't help us after all because we placed our initial order with ADT's 1-800 number instead of with this specific ADT office. Got my new alarm system put in my home. I have to say from the first customer service call to installation was a great experience. Samir Shamoun came to my house and did a walk through and marked all the ways someone could break in, and recommended what I should have to give me the best security coverage possible. The installation tech Hansel 'Junior' Sanchez was awesome VERY polite and walked me through the process until he was confident I had a full understanding of how everything worked. I can't say enough good stuff about these guys and ADT. Samir called to follow up...he really takes customer service to a level I have never experienced before. Very happy and very safe! ADT aka "Protect Your Home" is a Company is "affiliated" with ADT and lures customers in through false pretenses. ADT / Protect Your Home Gets customer to sign contract and then ignores customer completely. I purchased a new home and received an ad from ADT to secure my home with an alarm. I spoke with an ADT specialist who made several promises and offered discounts if I allowed someone to come to my home for a consultation. I paid $50.00 for a pre-installation fee. When someone came to my home, it was a representative from "Protect Your Home" an "affiliated" company with ADT but NOT ADT. He claimed to "not know" what had previously been promised to me and explained that everything I thought was "free" was not actually "free" and quoted me $1500+ in merchandise. When I threatened to not sign up, he, all of a sudden, provided me with 1/2 of what had been originally offered to me for free. Considering I was living alone and wanted protection, I accepted the products but immediately contacted ADT after he left about the remaining offers I was NOT given and I was promised. When asked "will you cancel your contract" and I said that I was considering the possibility, "Protect Your Home" immediately promised to send someone out to my house to provide me with all the remaining items I was not given the first time. Yet, the next available representative "Protect Your Home" could send was not able to come back to my home for at least One Week and after the 3 day cooling off period arising under the contract I signed had expired. Reluctantly, I agreed to the date and time "Protect Your Home" offered to send their representative since it was allegedly the "next available date." Despite a call and text message the day before the technician was to arrive, NO ONE from ADT or "Protect Your Home" came to my home as promised. I called 3 times to "Protect Your Home" and was given the run around by three different telephone representatives for 1.5 hours before I was finally permitted to speak to a "manager" who did not give me more than 5 minutes of his precious time. He explained my issue was "high priority" and that someone from "corporate" would contact me by Monday (June 15). Big Surprise, No ONE called me today. In short, I believe "Protect Your Home" is premised upon Fraud and I am very concerned about the quality and service I am receiving. Clearly, customers do not matter to this company so why would they care if someone broke into my home after all? I do not feel "Safe" with this company and I feel deceived and taken completely. It seems to me they are attentive until the 3 day cooling off period elapses and then "Protect Your Home" leaves the consumer in the dark, helpless and at the mercy of whatever bone they wish to throw at you. Worst company to install business system. First few weeks are system kept going off. Do not ever go to them. Had a 2 year lease and specifically told the agent and instead made it a 3 year contract without letting me know. My fault I didn't double check, so be aware before you sign. These agents are crooked. Spoke to someone to cancel it and had even emailed a cancelation notice to the email they gave me. They said that they never received it. My email said it went through. Then they had the nerve to tell me I had a balance. Wth...my shop is already closed and they were still charging my card and yet they tell me I still have a balance. Freaking ridiculous. Go somewhere else. Its not worth the headache. And to top it off they said the only contact I had with them was the day I canceled it which was end of June. So they never recorded or bother to put in their system that I had called them 3 times to find out why it wasn't canceled and that I had spoken to 3 different people who couldn't give me an answer until I called again today which a few months had past. read more

Unfortunately, adt doesn't do what they promise. Even as a gold premier member, call in a problem and they make an appointment for a week later. Then after complaining, they made a sooner appt the next work day between 12-5pm. At noon i called to confirm, they said the technician should be there around 2:30-3 pm. at 4:48 and no one had showed I called again. these are 30 minute calls. and I was told the technician was delayed and can't make it. IF you have the energy to deal with this then I suppose adt is a good choice. If not Id look elsewhere. Honestly, this is the third time this exact scenario has happened with ADT. read more

I have been harassed repeatedly by salesmen who keep coming to my door. I have been in my new home less than a month and just had the fifth salesperson knock on my door, not to mention the non-stop mailers. I have told each and every one of the salesmen to take me off of their lists as I have no desire to use ADT because of their nonstop soliciting. I cannot find anywhere online within ADT to file a complaint as I am not a customer. DON'T EVER USE ADT!!! I had an ADT system installed last year at my home. My home was burglarized last month and system didn't work. The Sherriff's Department confirmed that the system didn't work. ADT came to my house and also confirmed that the system didn't work. I filed a claim against ADT for its defective security system since it didn't work during the burglary. ADT's lawyer called me today and said ADT isn't going to pay for anything that was stolen because its form contract limits its liability. I am outraged that a security company that sells home protection has the nerve to say that it is not liable for what was stolen when it has already admitted that the security system that it installed was defective. Congratulations ADT, you've officially pissed this mom off. My family moved at the end of August and our house had a previously installed ADT alarm system. We do not have an account with ADT and do not wish to utilize this alarm system. For whatever reason, the alarm was not disconnected when the previous owners moved and now we have to deal with it going off at random times for no reason with no way to turn it off. All we can do is press random combinations on the keypad in a desperate attempt to stop the horrible noise. That'll stop the alarm for a few seconds at most and then it starts up again. This will happen several times in a row before it finally stops completely. I cannot tell you how many times this has happened when I have a sleeping baby and she's been woken up by it or worse, when she's nursing and it scares her to death (today included) and I have to stop feeding her and go mess with the alarm and I am so DONE. When we called to inquire about having someone come out to remove the system, we were told that there were no accounts tied to our address which meant the alarm must have been installed by a third-party company and therefore you couldn't help us. I'm sorry, but I think that's a big heaping pile of bullshit. The fact of the matter is, we have absolutely no way of knowing what company installed the system. It is your hardware and there's no reason one of your techs can't come out and uninstall it. This is absolutely ridiculous. Get your s**t together and get someone out here to uninstall this stupid thing. read more

I recently had trouble with my phone line after changing cable providers. I wasn't sure if it was the phone line or my security system. When I contacted ADT, my security provider, they rudely told me it would cost me $147.00 just to come to my house and another $37.00 for every 15 minutes to check my equipment. After being with this company for 10 yrs and being treated so rudely I decided to switch companies. When I called ADT they told me it would take 30 days to cancel, even though I have a new system with someone else and am not even connected to them, and they will require an additional months payment! ADT is rated 4th with security companies, let's make it lower. Don't do business with them! read more

Horrible experience. Pushy sales tactics. I did not appreciate the scare me into getting an alarm approach. I did however sign up since I felt the need to protect my family in an unfortunate event. However, this company could not get their act together. Seemed like one hand did not know what the other was doing. As I stayed home from work to meet the install tech who never showed up, I was not excited. When I called the company, they didn't seem to have me on record. Finally called the sales rep, who straightened it out (or so I thought) for a second install visit, which I was once again no showed. At that point I gave up on them. Unresponsive, uncaring, unethical, these are qualities I apply to every employee I met from ADT, the salesman was charismatic and I ended up getting ADT a few years ago because he preyed on my wifes' fear of burglary in our neighborhood, but we didn't have a security system so we got one. He signed us up after telling us it had many features that were not actually existent for the system, but I didn't know that until after the fact and my house was compromised while ADT seemed to care about as much as a rock on the floor. Terrorized and taken at gunpoint for our possessions, the burglar was able to leisurely pick and choose what he wanted from our house as if he were window shopping. By the time ADT called the police and told officers there was a "possible break-in" he was still in our home and left maybe about 5 minutes later. 20 minutes after that, police actually arrived. ADT has poor management on the inside out. They don't have enough manpower to service you and if you live in a area that has an 1-2 drive they will not service you either. Their hold times are long because on the inside they are short staffed and if they cannot service your area for drive time, it's tech availability, or they have more clients than people to manage their areas. Honestly I think they are thieves. They lock you into a contract, charge you monthly and half the time their system doesn't work. Then God forbid you have a burglary and need emergency services, that is not free though their system doesn't always catch it, they charge $300-$500 to send an emergency tech. That is not security that is robbery. I wouldn't recommend ADT to an enemy. Yes their company is that bad. read more

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. My alarm has gone off for 4 days at 3am & I call but they can't come out for 2 weeks. I work 5 days a week & am getting up every morning at 3am. Absolutely horrible. Worse than AT&T to deal with. A nightmare. We thought we had cancelled out Patrol and "Maintenance" services after lots of phone calls, and faxing through a letter to cancel both. The "maintenance" services had been on our bill in small print, and we were charged thousands for that service over the years, and never knew it even existed. We did not use any maintenance service from them either during this time period. Then we thought in November 2011 we had worked it all out, and after overpaying our balance still due, they "lost" our payment (even though the check was cashed) and sent us to their collection service. Well, we sorted that out in January 2012, but never got any refund for the overpayment, and, in fact, got a whole new "Patrol Bill" that we thought was cancelled in November, for $750 for 6 months that was NEVER ASKED FOR. Now after many days of calling and they also hang up on you, it is still not cancelled, even though we have faxed and also emailed copies of our request to cancel something we never ordered. STAY AWAY, FOR FEAR YOUR WHOLE LIFE WILL INVOLVE DEALING WITH A TOTAL NIGHTMARE. read more

We seldom use our alarm system and when we do it almost always goes off causing endless anxiety because it is always a false alarm. ADT replaced our entire sensor and it went off the first we used it and we had to run home. Difficult to get cust. Serv. and they are preprogrammed with inane excuses. Yesterday we were home and the system went off. Today the entire system is dead. Cust. serv. thinks it may be a battery. The guy who replaced the system last week said it may be a battery, ADT creates more anxiety than the actual burglars might. They are just a badly run company the system doesn't work and they don't know how to fix it. You will not be safer you will be poorer and angrier. I cannot speak for the Torrance office, but I will speak for ADT monitoring over all. I am even writing a letter to the State Attorney General's office to look into consumer fraud. After moving and disconnecting the phone that was being monitored, I believe I had discontinued my ADT service when our house finally closed. I had direct withdrawal from my bank for payment(which I will never do with ANY company again). It has been a year and a half and I just noticed that they are still withdrawing money from my account. I called to alert them of this and ask for a refund and they said they had no record that I called to cancel. I asked, "How can you monitor a phone that is not even in service?" They said that according to my contract, it is up to me to notify them when my number changes. I said, "You don't even have a number to monitor! It's not a change!" They also said that they are not responsible to write, email or call an alternative number to see why the number is totally not in service, nor to send any financial statement on my account since it is direct withdrawal. Since security is the premise of their business, I find it odd that I did not receive ANY contact and they continue to charge me for a phone that doesn't exist. I am glad a murderer did not come into my house and cut the phone lines. I'd be dead now, and I'm sure ADT would still be debiting my estate. read more
