In order to get someone to actually fix the problem, you'd need to go through some kind of phone call to show them you're trying g to fix it yourself or they charge hundreds to send anyone for service. My wife and I decided to go with ADT to secure our home, since the previous owner used ADT, and already had all the equipment installed. It should be an easy on-boarding experience, right? Well, the sales guy comes in and definitely exudes confidence about ADT and all of their services, trying to sell us more services and gadgets that we probably don't need. Sure, that's his job, no problem. We just decide to stick with the same equipment we have, and upgrade a few things. Then we schedule to install the upgrades and activate the system. The guy who comes thought our system had been activated and he was just installing some of the upgrades. Nope. So we have to reschedule for someone to come and activate the whole system. But he doesn't install everything, just gets the bare bones running so they can start charging us for their services. We have to get a third guy to come out to finish the install. But this guy didn't have all the equipment he needed to do his job. He had to call someone else for a ladder to get to our security cameras, which are right below our gutters (which the sales guy should have communicated to him that we had 2 cameras that needed to be activated). So he calls another 2 guys just so we can have a ladder. He then proceeds to dent our downspout from the gutter while accessing one of the cameras. Great. By this point, it's been a very long activation / installation process and we just want to have this over with. They can't upgrade some things, so the guy told us to contact ADT to change our monthly rates to reflect the changes in the actual services we are receiving. We figure their inter-company communication is terrible. Little did we know their overall communication is terrible. My wife tries to call ADT for months to try and get our rates changed (lowered) to reflect the actual price we should be charged (because they couldn't competently upgrade some of the things we wanted). But she keeps getting the runaround - oh, the person in charge of your account is out of the office. When will they return? We don't know - he didn't say. Oh, don't worry someone will call you back (no call back). Call again - oh someone will call you back (no call back). She also asks if someone will come to fix our damaged downspout. Oh, someone from the claims department will call you back (no call back after weeks). This has been a months-long process of extreme headache, and we are having major regrets for joining ADT. If you haven't made a decision yet, by any and all means, DO NOT go with ADT. They will pitch you a nice sales pitch and once they have your signature on the contract and deposit, their customer service is worse than bottom of the barrel - it's essentially non-existent. Which doesn't give me confidence that their security system will provide the services we need if our house is actually at risk, when I most need it. We would like to drop this service, but of course, their non-existent customer service makes it ridiculously difficult to get anything done. Stay away!! read more

If I could less than one star and still get my point across I would. After one year of service I called ADT to cancel my service. I was advised that at the time the system was installed, one and a half years ago, I had agreed to a THREE year contract. This was NEVER mentioned during installation. In order to cancel the service now I would be required to pay 75% of the remaining "contract" amounting to over $750 dollars. Obviously there was no meeting of the minds over this provision thereby making the contract invalid. I could sue ADT in small claims court but do not have the time to do so. If I simply quit paying it would adversely affect my credit rating. Don't get caught in this rip off and DO NOT GO WITH ADT for your security system!!!! I read more

The manager from sales came to my house the next day I moved. I told him it was not a good time. So he came back on Memorial Day, I sign with them, because there was a system in the house. They do not explain that they are not part of ADT company, they are just a Contractor, called Save Haven Security, you have 3 days to cancel the contract. But they make sure the equipment is install before that, then after that. If you want to cancel the contract because you found out that competition is cheaper, you have to pay 75% of the total amount of the contract ( my case $ 1,300.00). I decided to ask how much it would be to turn on and off the system from my phone, but that cannot be done for 90 days. Therefore, they are dishonest, because they do not clearly speak that they are not ADT, and explain the situation. Instead they keep shifting the blame. It is just a headache!!!! read more

Could not pay me final bill after cancelling as they wanted me to call back in a few days after they processed the cancellation. Predators. On two separate occasions a "manager" stopped by my new home for their "appointment". Neither had an appointment and could not produce a number or email used to "verify" said appointment. They are scum that stalk new home closings, so all they have is a name and address. They use the title manager and shockingly do not have business cards, because they don't want you to know who they are. I called ADT to report these occurrences and they basically said "oh well, sorry about that, some of our contractors are aggressive like this". Totally unethical and scum. I'll handle my own security thank you. Beware. OR, have a little fun with them and waste their time if you are bored because I can assure you they WILL show up on your doorstep days after you move in, likely around 7pm. Ironically my home has a prominent No Soliciting sign that was ignored and I was bothered long after my third No Thank You. read more

I had them A while back. Been searching for a new security for this new house. Decided to give them a call and check around. I didn't want to give the sales girl my address she got mad and said what do you think I'm gonna do if your address I live in Annapolis. Following the conversation and she hung up on me I get to say thank you. This is one of the rudest quotes I have gotten and she was not even on the phone with me for no more than three minute. There was also other incidents in this conversation, very unprofessional. I don't think I would ever recommend someone. Lack of training that these people have to sell your products maybe this is why people shop around for other products and services. read more

Don't use ADT / Defend Your Home -- they are scam artist and frauds. They quoted me free camera installation, when the tech arrived, it was $300. They quoted me $27 / month monitoring, when the tech arrived, it was 52. The tech said I could forego the two remote keychains to get more window sensors, but then said "the keychain allowance wasn't enough for more window sensors". Plus, ADT is broken up into multiple corporations and franchisees, so no one is responsible or responsive. You want your security company to be trustworthy, these people are not, and the telemarketing company they've hired are a bunch of frauds. read more

We recently had new windows installed din our house and were told by the window installer that we had to have ADT come out and disconnect the wired window sensors. The tech came out and stated that he couldn't really do anything except cut the wires and turn off the sensors. He also stated that we would have to go back with a wireless system since they would not be able to drill through the Renewal by Andersen windows. He made some changes on the control panel, verified that the windows would not trip the alarm and then left. I get my bill for the next month in the mail and it is $115 dollars more than my usual bill. There is a $25 Trip Fee and a $90 Labor fee. They guy may have been here for 15 minutes. I called ADT and they said that thIs is there standard fee and that I cannot dispute it. Unfortunately I am under contract for another year but I will be switching to another system. Most likely a Nest or Simply Safe. Don't bother with ADT. The monthly charge is not worth the service that you receive. read more

Worst security company to deal with. We changed to CPI years ago because of their poor customer service. Most recently they ripped off my elderly mother. She called at the beginning of March to cancel her service, then followed up on the 15th of March and wad assured that the service would be cancelled at the end of the month. They then proceeded to charge her for April and when we called to find out why they said she was required to give 30 days notice and didn't call until March 15th which isn't true at all. So now she's having to pay for half a month for security on a house she no longer owns or lives in. I wouldn't use this company ever again! How with Simply Safe or CPI if they are available to your area. read more

I don't normally write reviews but this has to be said. I called looking for a new security system. I was on the phone for 45 minutes that should have given me a clue. The sales representative made an appointment to have the company come out to show me the system. She tells me it's 99 dollars for installation. The guy comes out takes my existing door alarm off and puts adt up. Then he gives me the costs. I tell him no. Now my equipment is off my door he doesn't put it back. Charged me 99 dollars. I travel a bunch for work and our security system is important to protect Ann and the kids when I am away (or home for that matter). Very disappointing. ADT came to discuss options. Initial price was higher than expected. We came to agreement after negotiating and agreed to the install. We requested in in writing before they started. Once we asked them to put it all in writing they basically changed the price (it doubled!). This wasn't the install guy but his manager on the phone. We obviously told them no and will use another company. Poor business practices and a waste of 2.5 hours. Shocking how a good deal turned so fast once we asked for it in writing. I agree with the other ratings. They are horrible to deal with. Bragged about their so called customer service, which is about the same you would find at a kiddie park. Supervisors have no clue what they are doing when it comes to new business and in my opinion, rip people off. Took them a half a day to get me pricing on something they said would be done in 10 minutes. They claim to offer great deals for starting service, but were going to use the majority of my current equipment, but wanted to charge me for any extras. Nothing but a marketing gimmick. Overall, NOTHING but a complete waste of time and their pricing was higher than most others. Tried to get security installed. First was told Monday, then Thursday, then Saturday with no notification of the change. Got so frustrated, canceled the service. First call to cancel was told it was canceled, but it wasn't. Called a second time to cancel, was told it was cancelled, it wasn't. Now they have still deducted $77.31 from my account FOR NOTHING .. and NEVER CANCELED the service. I am disputing this charge with my bank. FRAUDULENT HORRIBLE COMPANY!!! My fiance called to get a security system for our home. While talking to a customer service representative, my fiance had a good experience. The guy was nice. Until my fiance said that he was going to talk to me about it, to make sure that was the route we wanted to take. The customer service rep then proceeded to ask " are you the man of the house" and " your fiance isnt an expert like I am " . We have never experienced such terrible customer service. We had every intention with choosing ADT for our home. Now we are choosing to go with a company like Brinks. I suggest everyone else does the same thing. If I were the company I would be embarrassed by such comments. Especially when it made the company lose money and service. We called and spoke to a manager, and she stated that she would listen to the call, I'm guessing to see if my fiance provoked him...
