They were bought out by NearU in 2022 and are now private equity owned high price poor service company. Full review... I would not recommend Ideal, and I will never use them again. Based on my experience, their pricing is excessive, their explanations were not credible, and they did not stand behind their installation. In November 2024, Ideal installed a Trane XR14 for about $5,500. It did not make it through more than one cooling season before developing a significant coil leak requiring replacement a few months out of Ideal's labor warranty. There were red flags early. Within 72 hours, they had to come back multiple times. Ideal tied the new AC coil drain into the existing furnace drain line. After that, the original furnace drain trap connection leaked (photo). I told them I believed the old glued joint was disturbed during install as they moved it to tee in the new line. Since the joint was old, I offered to split the repair cost, even though the problem appeared immediately after their work. Despite photos, Ideal required $150 to send a tech to diagnose and quote repair. They quoted about $750 to replace the drain trap, P-trap, and tee. Their own technician said parts were under $75. I looked up the parts: part 20171701 was about $16.72, and 3/4-inch pipe, P-trap, plus tee is under $20. That quote appeared to be hundreds in labor for a small PVC repair. A licensed plumber fixed it for $100 in under 30 minutes, including a new OEM drain trap. To me, that is not standing behind your work. That is charging a lot for something that appeared to result from the installation. The unit was serviced by Ideal in August 2025 before it went out of warranty and was seemingly fine. On May 3, 2026, when I turned the AC on, it was short cycling. Ideal found a "significant" coil leak. The Trane part was covered under warranty, but Ideal wanted about $3,200 in labor to replace the coil (photo). They claimed it would take two people a full day. For comparison, I received competing quotes for the same work -- drain, swap coil, replace dryer, nitrogen test, vacuum, and recharge -- for $1,200 and $1,500. After I pushed back to service manager Mark, he reduced the quote to about $2,000. Ultimately, another licensed HVAC technician replaced the same warranted Trane coil, IN ADDITION TO my blower motor, for $1,200 total in 3 hours by himself. There are still good companies who charge by the hour vs inflated flat-rate prices. During my call with Ideal, I also discussed my blower motor. Ideal previously said it had shaft play. When I said my regular HVAC technician could replace it for $429 including the part, Mark chuckled and called him a "hack." He said the motor alone was close to $1,000 and suggested I would get a non-OEM cheap Chinese motor with the wrong speed that would not work. That did not hold up. The OEM Goodman motor part number is 0131F00041S. It is nowhere near $1,000. Ferguson HVAC Supply quoted me $88.97 for the OEM Goodman motor. The OEM motor pulled from the unit is made by Zhongshan Broad-Ocean Motor Co, in China. The motor Ideal claimed would be a cheap Chinese knockoff was replaced with a verified OEM Goodman motor, also made in China. When my technician removed the old motor, he found zero shaft play. I still have the motor and a video. Based on all this, Ideal's pricing and recommendations should be questioned carefully. In my opinion, their quotes were inflated compared with actual parts costs and other HVAC labor quotes. Customers should verify any major repair recommendation or part-price claim before agreeing to pay Ideal. Lastly, the timing left me with serious questions. Ideal serviced the unit in August 2025, before the labor warranty expired. When I turned it back on May 3, 2026, it short cycled and Ideal diagnosed a significant coil leak. I cannot prove what Ideal knew in August, but if the leak was present or developing then, waiting until after the labor warranty expired would obviously benefit Ideal financially. That timing and everything above destroyed my trust in this company. read more

Do NOT trust this company. They installed our system and less than 2 years later, it started leaking refrigerant. They sent a technician out who "couldn't find" the leak and wanted to charge us almost $1000 for a nitrogen test, the standard for our area is $200-$400. They promised a free leak check before they made us do the nitrogen test and then changed their mind and said they could only stand by what they promised if we signed up for their maintenance program. We found an honest contractor who found the leak in 2 minutes and charged us less for the entire repair than Ideal would have charged us just for the materials. They were literally 3x more expensive, with HORRIBLE customer service to boot. Save yourself a headache and avoid Ideal Services. read more

The night after the technician left from a routine maintenance appointment, the unit ran nonstop without cooling. When the unit was checked the next morning the coils were frozen into a brick. Another technician came out the following evening and left without communicating any findings. I called the next day and learned that he prepared a quote that was never sent. I was also told I needed to pay before they ordered a needed part. I forwarded the quote to another company and learned that Ideal was charging $1206.01 in bogus service. I was also informed that Ideal was overcharging me for the needed part and repair: $1182.14. These charges were all because Ideal came out to perform routine maintenance. They are not to be trusted. Our property has been without AC in July for going on 3 days because of Ideal's idea of "maintenance." read more

The capacitor on our AC unit failed while still under warranty. we called Ideal as they do our routine twice yearly maintenance (last performed on 4/16/23). The technician was here no more than 30 minutes and presented us a bill of more than $400! This was with the actual part being under warranty. A call to the service manager was fruitless, so I guess price gouging is their normal practice. Cannot recommend this company. read more

My builder installed my system in the worst way (in a closet); and the system had to be replaced after 6 years. Ideal Services did a great job with a poor set up. Today, David came out for my seasonal maintenance and spent a great deal of time answering my questions and helping me figure out the best way to get the most out of my new system during this hot summer. He was great and made sure I had everything answered. He went the extra mile and then added another mile. I purchased a new HVAC system....installation went great!!

Recently Ideal Services came to perform a seasonal maintenance inspection on our furnace. After doing so, they told us that our heat exchanger was cracked and showed me a picture on their tablet, and that we'd either need to replace the heat exchanger, or for a bit more, the entire furnace. I spoke to my cousin who is an experienced HVAC professional out of state, who seemed to suspect that we were being misled, as it is rare for a heat exchanger to crack, and this unit is only 11 years old. We proceeded to request techs from two other HVAC companies to inspect our unit. Both techs from the other companies told us that there is nothing wrong with our heat exchanger. We heard from them, and other people in the business, that techs at some companies are given incentives to sell equipment, and are therefore motivated to recommend replacement when it's not necessary. We have been a loyal Ideal customer for over 15 years, and used to be a fan, but they have lost our trust. read more

We were in the market for a new AC unit and decided to go with Ideal Heating & Cooling. Andy assisted us with finding the unit that best suited our needs, he was very passionate about what he does and the company. Dwayne installed our unit and did a great job. We decided to go with this company for a few reasons: 1) their 'base' model was a trane unit, 2) they are based out of Holly Springs and are more established and 3) the price was comparable. So far we have been satisfied with the work that Ideal has done, we haven't had a need for any maintenance yet. read more

These guys were called out because my AC drain line was clogged. This is a common problem and the fix is usually very easy and quick, just blow the line our with compressed air or vacuum it out. These guys charged almost $500 for this service, which was a 5 min job. Maybe not the worse company in the area, but definitely call around before having these guys visit. read more

There are much better companies out there. I don't know much about the service side but the install side sucks. The salesmen promise unicorns and rainbows which never happen. Brandon, the install supervisor, is an absolute joke. He puts on a front like he cares so much but let me tell you, he don't give 2 cents about customers or the installers and helpers who he is supposed to supervise over. Salesman promises the customer that they will be getting this but then when it comes time for the job to be installed, Brandon can't ever get the proper materials ordered right and will get the installers to "rig" things. Great customer service huh? Also, the installers work themselves down to the bone and if you don't kiss Brandon's rearend good enough, he will make up lies about you to get you fired or force you to quit. He lies to the customers, lies to his managers, and lies to the installers under him. This company has lost a lot of great employees and they could care less. Please, if you are looking for a heating and air company, go elsewhere. There are companies in Raleigh area that are cheaper and give better quality. read more

The company sent a senior technician out to correct the problem at 9 p.m. (turns out the first tech had left two wires unattached so it was a quick fix). They made it right and gave me credit for an extra service call to make up for the inconvenience. I appreciate their commitment to customer service. read more

Update: No additional problems. The last correction to the drain line corrected the issue. The smell from running the heat resolved itself. Something must have dripped on the heating coil during the install. The Train units I purchased have been running great. Jamie at Ideal has called a number of times to make sure everything has been running as expected and that I was happy. I appreciate the follow up. Ideal granted an additional year of service which I also appreciate. I cannot recommend Ideal Services at this time. We had two units installed this spring and we've had multiple issues. Once the units were installed, we ran the heat which produced an awful smell like a rotten crotch. They looked the unit over twice and stated they could replace the air ducts. This wasn't an issue before and I'm not replacing the air ducts. Next, the drain line stopped up in the attic which shut the system off due to a filled drain pan. They had me vacuum out the drain pan that evening until they could come out the next morning. The drain pan filled back up and some water dripped onto the attic floor. This could have caused a major issue because the unit didn't stop running this time. The HS Town inspector came out to inspect the units, but they failed due to the clogged drain line. Ideal fixed the line and told us we were lucky to have the one year warranty. This shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. The tech left and the bedroom (were the attic door is located) and left the room smelling like cigarette smoke. A month later the drain line was stopped up again. The tech came back out, fixed the line and reminded us how lucky we were. The room didn't smell like smoke this time, but he left a stain on our bedroom carpet. Thanks! I called Ideal and request the owner call me back, but a service manager returned the called in which he proceeded to tell me how great a company they were and did nothing to reassure their work or provide any comfort this install wasn't going to cause more issues. Basically, purchase the annual service package (I think $250 a yr) and we'll make sure it works. If I were the owner and my customer had this many issues I would have offered something for a piece of mind. At this point we've had a few issues, missed a bit of work and the units have yet to pass the towns inspection after 3 months. They also stated they were going to clean up install on the side of the house and caulk, but that didn't happen either. read more

I bought my upstairs unit six years ago from Allan Kelly and Co. and have never had a problem. A year later I went with Ideal for my downstairs unit. Bryan told me he would sell me a better unit for a lower price. I've had nothing but trouble with it for the last year and half, while the upstairs unit (both Trane) has worked fine. I am very disappointed and have spent much more than Allan Kelly was going to charge. They also refuse to stand behind their product, even though it was poorly installed. These guys do the service for all the computer equipment cooling and Air systems were I work and I was surprised to find out they also service residential. In fact our account manager Bryan said their residential department is bigger than their commercial department so I felt good about having them come to my home to service my furnaces. I watched the tech work on it for a while and was surprised how much he had to do to get it cleaned up and working good. I keep a clean house but felt a little embarrassed I waited 5 years since it was new to have it checked out. It was pretty dirty. Ideal did a great job! It was easy to schedule so I didn't have to wait home very long to get it done and the tech was neat and made sure I knew what he was doing and how long it would take etc... read more

I received a call from Ideal's service manager and learned that they charge flat rates for each individual type of service that they provide, regardless of the actual time spent on site. This 'flat rate pricing' is designed so a customer will know in advance what the repairs will cost. It is very important to ask the technician questions once the diagnostic portion of a call is completed, so the exact amount of the bill will be known before giving him the OK to proceed. read more

Unhappily I do not recommend Ideal Service. I had been a satisfied Ideal Services customer for several years since they installed new systems at my Holly Springs home. I was pleased enough with their service to recommend them to install a new heating system at my mother's home. Unfortunately that has not been a satisfactory experience. My mother was left with an ugly vent pipe extending into her outdoor patio by two feet. No one would find it acceptable. I have been trying for months to have this addressed by the owner Bryan Edwards. He has made representations that have not been fulfilled. I have reached out to him one last time for resolution but at this time I cannot recommend Ideal Services. I regret the unhappiness their failure has caused my mother. read more

I called Ideal to fix my A/C units the Friday before the labor day weekend. It was last minute but the customer service was great and they were able to send someone the same day. The tech arrived in a cheerful mood and after he checked both the units he showed me everything he would need to fix to get them working good again. Moved to a new house, that came with a home warranty. The first really cold weekend in November, we noticed the air blowing was also cold. It was a Friday night, and the whole family was cold. Called the warranty people and their HVAC contractor in the area does not work on the weekend! Since Ideal had installed and serviced the units in our previous house, we had them come out and take a look. Ultimately the HVAC in the new house was fairly old and decided to change them both out. They spent a lot of time explaining the different different Trane units and their features, as well as looking at load calculations, how efficiency over time converts into savings, and any other data point to satisfy this engineer. The units were installed with the highest skill, professionalism, and respect for the home. They cleaned up and the new units work great! I highly recommend them, and will use them for years to come. read more

I have to say I am beyond impressed with the technician, Jeff and Ideal Services. My wife noticed a water stain in the ceiling of our upstairs foyer and called me back home to investigate and see if it was a roof leak or an AC unit issue, which is housed in our attic. Turns out it was the AC unit as our drip pan was overflowing and the water found its way through the insulation and through our ceiling. I called Ideal based on a referral from a neighbor who was pleased with their service and stated that they will come out the same day with little notice. I called and spoke with Jamie. She was compassionate in listening to my events of the day and was able to schedule a tech to be out within a few hours. The tech (Jeff) arrived on time and was eager to investigate. I showed Jeff were the units were and within 5-10 minutes he had a pretty good understanding of what was causing the problem. I do have to say, I was having a bad day and short on patience and when Jeff started with a "sales pitch" on the maintenance program, I about lost it. Jeff took a deep breath and ask me to hear him out. I did and the reason he started with the program was to explain the cost savings to me with the program versus paying to "service call" rate plus parts and labor. He stayed true to doing what is best for the client, even after I asked if he would "work" on the side and I pay him directly. He did not hesitate to say "NO SIR, I can not and will not do that." He then had the courage to ask what I do for a living. I am a Sales Director with a small group that reports to me. He asked if I would appreciate if my reps would "work on the side". The answer is no. As I said, I was having a bad day and just wanted my AC unit fixed for the least amount of money. Jeff was showing how that is done and I didn't listen the first time. He repeated the benefits of what he was saying and it made sense once I listened. I was impressed by the young guys character and loyalty to his company and craft. I would highly recommend this company, especially since they are hiring high character people like Jeff. Ideal was referred to me and I a referring them to you who are reading and all I know. End result, Jeff fixed the issue and saved me money doing so. He gave my wife peace of mine with the service program and the guarantees/services that come with it. I found someone I can trust and know that they have my best interest in mind every step of the way. read more

We purchased our unit through Lowes and Ideal was the company. The installer was good, except he did not replace one of the plenams, even though we were having an entirely new system installed. He said it did not need replacement. Unit was up and running, but no cold air for the night since the apprentice did not open the dampers. Installer returned at 5:30pm the next day. Receipts were sloppy, had to call for clear copies for rebate 3 times, technician brought us copies of rebate, had to call again for receipt copy. Office staff was not the best. In the meantime, our downstairs unit died and we contacted the same salesman thinking he would want to work with us. We got a better unit for less from another company. They were awesome to work with! Explain everything, called to set up our inspection for us, called to remind of us inspection, called to make sure we were happy and unit was working. Ideal did not do any follow up. Kind of "take the money and run" sales technique. read more
