Tuesday, 18 April 2023 -- At Adun Spice Co.
    Agnes I.

PHOTOS ATTACHED BELOW. // This is a specialty spice store inside the Van Aken Market Hall in Shaker Heights on the east side of Cleveland. I've passed through this business many times but I never actually browsed around until recently in mid-April 2023. PRICES (3/5) -- Since all spices and teas are hand made and hand packed, the prices are expensive compared to your average/local store. A very small container of bergamot tea was $16 which is extremely pricey. SPICES/OTHER ITEMS -- They sell all sorts of spices from savoury to sweet. I currently have their "Brown Sugar Babe' spice blend which is a combination of brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, and vanilla bean. I received this item for free courtesy of Yelp. I added it to pancakes and it tasted good but there was too much brown sugar and not enough cinnamon in the blend. I bought loose leaf tea which now looking back, I probably should not have purchased because of the price. The $16 small container of tea consists of bergamot flowers, bergamot root, rooibos, and vanilla. The taste is somewhat bland and not strong enough but when I made a cup of tea and added some honey, it tasted fine. I also bought a $15 container of Sichuan Chili Crisp which is great on meats or pasta. You'll love this chili oil if you enjoy spicy foods. I plan to try this oil with some eggs in the future. SERVICE -- I was greeted when I arrived and the worker assisted me with all my questions. She was friendly. If you love natural and homemade spices then I recommend Adun Spice Co. **** - 75/150 total reviews in 2023 - 626 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 28 June 2023

We took a trip to the east side to walk around the Van Aiken District. I am so glad we did. We hadn't been in a while and there were several new shops. Adun Spice Company was such a nice surprise. They had a large variety of ethically sourced items displayed beautifully in a small area. The staff were very cheery and helpful. I thought the prices were reasonable for the specialty items I purchased. I bought red palm oil and yuzu rice vinegar. Both items are new to me and I am very excited to try them. I love supporting small businesses and I would definitely go back!

I drove up from Akron last week and was pleasantly surprised to see how this compact store is part of the larger Van Aken District marketplace. The market has a fresh, vibrant, urban feel with indoor and outdoor spaces, and Adun Spice Co. fits in very nicely there. The spice shop is decorated simply, with nicely packaged herbs and spices easily browsed at eye level. The shop offers commonly used spices as well as more exotic flavors such as lemon grass, and custom blends that come with suggestions for how to use them. The prices seem very reasonable for the quantity in each jar, and the service was friendly and helpful. I substituted the Brown Sugar Babe in place of plain cinnamon in my oatmeal pancakes this morning and it gave them a better depth of flavor. I also purchased a nice quality Vanilla Extract made by Nielsen-Massey in IL using vanilla beans from Madagascar. This is a great place to try something new for yourself or to purchase a gift for friends or family who love to cook.

I walked into Adun Spice Co and my eyes could not stop darting from spice to sauce to salt combinations -- I wanted them all! And hopefully I can slowly but surely accumulate a collection of these beautiful pantry treasures. This store is next to STEM in the indoor market of Van Aken. Everything is neatly organized and displayed in a thoughtful way. I picked out the sticks of Korintje Cinnamon and Cardamom to enjoy and also couldn't forget about the Brown Sugar Babe - a dark sweet sugar blend that has different ideas suggested on the little bottle. If you're looking for a wonderful gift idea, something to shake things up in your kitchen, or just a plethora of beautiful options to ask the kind staff about - you MUST stop into Adun Spice Co.! I like several of their spices, but the Tuscan Blend is my absolute favorite! They have an amazing selection and it's good quality.

Used to go to this place all the time when I worked downtown Cleveland and was so very disappointed this time around. You should consider bringing back full service, hot food, and then one of the employees said that you limit the hours that you actually prepare hot food now which is tragic in my opinion There are so many other places to eat downtown Cleveland that are open and serving food throughout their business day that a person does not have to waste their time coming here. I'm sure as long as you're selling liquor and imported cheese you'll probably stay in business, but how disappointing.

I most recently stopped in today, and as always it was a solid experience from start to finish. The store is bright, spacious, clean, and well-organized, making it easy to find what I needed without wandering aimlessly. Every employee I've encountered there has been consistently pleasant and helpful. Even at checkout the employees are always so personable, greeting every customer. The produce section is always impressive - everything looks super fresh and well-stocked, with plenty of organic options. I also love to gaze at exotic fruits while shopping. During this trip I picked up some tropical cold pressed juice and WTR MLN WATER. The latter is my addiction, it's watermelon water that's cold pressed. I find it very refreshing and hydrating. I also love coming to this store for their cheese assortment and chocolate. Both have impressive selection and you can never go wrong with any choices. I also prefer this store for Amazon returns when I have them. While there's sometimes a line, I found that returns and refunds are somehow processed faster here than at other locations (such as Rocky River). Only downside: parking can be a bit of a hassle when it's busy (like during the weekend). However, there's so many parking options in the plaza that you'll always find a spot. Overall it's a great spot for high-quality groceries and quick meals on the go.
