Outstanding customer service. The staff could not be more helpful. Today - I went to get some cleaner for some spilled gasoline in the back of my car. While they were helpful in pointing me in the right direction, the person who was working with me and grabbed baking soda from the back of the store asked if I wanted to try using that first before buying the cleaner. He came out to my car with me and to make sure we put enough down. He also provided me instructions for when I got home. High level service like is hard to find and guarantees I will be back soon. Over the last month, I have been sold 2 bulbs, a drivers side rear direction signal and a head light that didn't match my vehicle even though they looked it up on the computer. Fortunately, I had the receipt for the tail light. Tried installing the headlight and again, the wrong light. I went to take it back to Advance Auto. I did not have the receipt but showed him the transaction on my credit card. See the screen shot. He would not accept the return without the receipt so I am stuck useless headlamp for almost 20 bucks. He would not even do a store credit! They have lost my business forever! read more

I must admit, I am not a car guy. If there is something wrong I check one of the following; gas, tire pressure, windshield washer fluid. If it isn't one of those I stand there with my shoulders shrugged, puzzled look on my face and head shaking "No" in disbelief. This stems from the lack of a Father figure growing up. I guess you could say I have Daddy issues. The A/C hasn't worked in my car since the tail end of last Summer and it only blows warm air when turned on. I kept hearing commercials on the radio for A/C Pro which is a DIY product to recharge your unit at a fraction of the cost a mechanic would charge. They made it sound super easy to use and even someone like me could figure it out. I did my research and watched the brief "How To" video on their site and it seemed easy enough. Driving home from the office yesterday I just couldn't take it anymore. If I am cruising along with the windows down I at least have the breeze to somewhat keep me from sweating to the point I soak through my shirt, but during rush hour when the traffic crawls and you barely move, your car can feel like an oven. I remembered there was an Advanced Auto Parts on my route home and as enough was enough I detoured and made a quick stop. Walking in I was instantly greeted by a friendly face asking if I needed assistance. As mentioned, I know Jack about cars so I stated what I was looking for. He showed me to where it was and asked if I knew how it worked or how to use it. I told him that I did a little research and it seemed easy enough, but the only concern I had was where the low side of the unit was as that is where you hook the hose to. Without even having to ask he offered to walk out and show me where it goes. He explained that he wouldn't be able to actually hook it in, but he was happy to point me in the right direction. Fine by me. I popped the hood and he pointed out where the cap was and then proceeded to take it off and then clamp in the end of the A/C Pro hose. I thanked him and he stated that even though they technically aren't supposed to do this kind of stuff he could tell I wasn't all that comfortable with the inner workings of a car. We had a brief conversation and he pointed out some other small things and then instructed me on how to finish the job. Roughly ten minutes later my car was as cold as an icebox and I was a happy Timmy. I couldn't have asked for better Customer Service. He was informative, helpful and just an overall super cool guy. read more

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey that has over 130,000 miles. This car has required little maintenance and has been a real strong car, especially in Michigan winters. Needed a new battery- Dale at store 08688/Clawson was great to deal with. Knew what kind of "battery hold down" that would keep this smaller battery in place. Store sucks. Paid for a warranty on their battery. Three year. They will only charge the battery. They will not give you a new one even though you paid for it. Bullshit. They tried to say something is wrong with my car on top of it. Customer service only backs the store as well. So if you have a warrantied battery you better get ready to stand around 45 minutes and wait for a charge. Only then will you get a new battery if it's bad. But it's their autocrat gold brand and it's junk. Plus they pretended to not have us in their system. Customer service will bound you around to wrong department as well. Ordered an alternator online and set this location as my pickup. I gave them my old alternator and things seemed to be all set until I got home and the alternator didn't fit. I took it back to the store to return and get my old alternator back. They told me they couldn't do that, and that I would have to pay a core charge when I got the correct alternator. They sent me to their store on 14 and schoenherr (a common solution for this store according to the schoenherr rd manager) and told me to exchange the alternator there. Turns out I was indeed supposed to have the alternator returned at the original location and I would get my old alternator back. The employees here were Just unhelpful, out of synch with advance auto parts process company wide system, and on top of it scoffed at me for wearing a mask. Will never go to this store again. read more

My family has always been loyal customers at this establishment, but after today I will no longer go there for my car's needs. After waiting in line I asked the man behind the counter if he could test my battery (since it's stated on their door that they do that for free), and that I've had the battery for less than a year. He asked what was wrong with it and I told him some car trouble I was having recently and just wanted to rule out the battery being a problem. He laughed at me and refused to do it. Then gave me a condescending spiel about how my problems couldn't be because of my battery. I told him that I understand that, but my issues could be a number of things and I just want to rule the battery being an issue out. He then says, "I mean if you want me to check it I guess I can." I told him no, and left. If it's that big of an issue to do something so simple that you advertise it in your windows, then get rid of that policy. Staff needs a customer service lesson. read more

This place is a joke! I purchased a floor jack and paid cash for it, come to find out that I don't even need it anymore and never opened the box! Went back up there to return it and the loser manager tells me he doesn't have cash in the register for my refund try back tomorrow! I call up there to make sure they had cash to refund my product and whatta you know! The lazy scum bag tells me he doesn't have cash and to try another store! He didn't even seem to care to refund my money! That old hag deserves to get fired and eat sh*t! Must be nice to sit around and get paid to do nothing! Been coming here for years now and many other family And friends which i have told to leave bad reviews And not support this place! I went here to determine check engine code. First time i came in a gentleman was going to help me when, what i presume to be his boss, yelled at him in front of me that he needs to fill in the order he was given ASAP rather than dealing with me. The guy I was talking to was apologetic & asked if i could come back in half hour. I wasn't sure if I would, but I thanked him. I did return since I was still running arounds around that area. I stood in line while the 3rd tall younger guy ignored customers. Finally, he looked up & after asking for check engine, reluctantly came outside. He had really hard time explaining the code to me. I usually have good experience with Auto Zone, maybe just this one is out of whack. read more

My experience with Advanced Auto Parts in Clawson could not have been better. Employee Joe was fantastic. I stopped for dinner next door. When I came out my '69 Mustang would not start. This was very frustrating as it was Woodward Cruise week and my wife and I were on our way to Woodward. I had not had any problems with my car before this and thankfully have not had any trouble since. But on this particular evening Joe from Advanced was a real life saver. He checked my battery for me and went over some things under the hood with me. Even though the battery was just 4 months old and checked good, Joe gave me a jump and sprayed starting fluid in the carb for me. He worked with me for at least ten minutes in the parking lot. We finally got it started. Joe put my air cleaner cover on and handed my spray to me. I didn't even have to get out of the car. Joe was very friendly and I felt he truly cared about getting me back on the road. He refused my offer of a tip several times until I shoved it in his hand. I would highly recommend this location and would advise asking for Joe. read more
