If you are up for the challenge, these guys will make it happen. Not a lecture based class or a note taking seminar. They break it down to what it really is, which is knowing where and how to find answers in your code book. You get right down to it, its easy. Passed my Reinforced Concrete Certification the 1st time thanks to Tony and the instructors at Advance! Heard from several guys out in the field that this was the place to go. I don't know about others but my experience, I speak for myself. Advance Training has been by far the best place to go if you really are interested in advancing your self in a carrier. I said if you really are, because some folks here are trashing this people with bad comments that I strongly disagree with. The courses are hard because the exams are very hard. But look at it this way if the certification you're after was easy easy to get everybody would have it and it wouldn't be worth the paper it would be printed on. I had attempted the 2015 Residential Building inspector test 3 times, without success, and was very discouraged. I found Advance Inspector Training online and flew from West Virginia to California to take a week long prep course. If I didn't understand something, Wes was great to explain it in a way I could easily understand!! I was able to go at my own pace amd target areas that I needed to work on. Advance Contractor And Inspector Training Center - City of Bluefield WV Residential Building Inspector - Test Preparation Near Me - Anaheim, California

I came to the training center upon referral of an inspector who knew the owner personally. The good: When you enroll there is a gentleman who who is sociable and is willing to make accommodations if you can't pay for the course in full. You'll need to hurry before you hit the halfway point of your studies which is reasonable. You are told in person and in writing that you are "guaranteed to pass your exams" if you follow through the course and study on your own or the school will let you back in for another term to ensure you pass. You will be referred to the ICC if you want to become an inspector so you can enroll in a membership and get your first codebook for 50 bucks IBC at least. Real world inspectors are hired as tutors/advisers which is great! The were very friendly and knowledgeable. The course that you enroll for varies in length and textbook requirements and since it is at your own pace you can enroll anytime. The training mostly consists of 8 different booklets which "exam questions" followed by the correct answer so you'll be going through your codebook doing alot of highlighting. If I remember right there are a total of over 800 exam prep questions to study and you are expected to take a self administered exam and correct your own answers to be considered "guaranteed to pass" your exam The bad: Not much in all honesty but I think the deficiencies are very serious. The training center is never open until the closing hour that is advertised on their handouts and storefront. That's during the week and on saturday. Second the owner of the training center is rude. He kept track of me toward the end of my course and kept asking me when I was finishing so I could get out of there. Clearly he didn't want me back if I failed my exam. My take on it is if you're going to have a problem with people going to your school don't make a false advertisement. Clearly business is very good for this guy. Bummer I was planning on coming back to the training center to ENROLL FOR MORE COURSES. Also more importantly if you enroll in the IBC course you'll have over 800 questions to study for at the training center. BUT BE WARNED THERE ARE ONLY 80 QUESTIONS ON THE IBC EXAM. And it gets even better! Of the 80 questions on the IBC exam you'll see less than half of those questions you studied so hard for. Basically I advise you buy the study companions for and ICC courses you'll want to study for and avoid this place. I would have recommemded it if the owner there had a different business approach. I believe you're better prepared with the study guide but if you want tutors to help you in clarifying codes and help you navigate charts on the codebook then do it! But I'd go elsewhere. The courses run a bit expensive to a guarantee to pass especially when the owner is trying to shoo you away from there. Hope this helps! read more

At an impasse, I recalled the focused training Advanced Inspector Training provided in helping me get through the ICC Masonry Exams, while they were in the Chicago area. As a last ditch effort, I decided to fly out to California and take their course. Mission accomplished. I passed the exam with little effort-- finished in under an hour. I'm writing this review on my experience with Advanced Contractor and Inspector Training. I'm a Veteran and am using the VA Vocational Rehabilitation benefits. This school is a certified school by the VA and you are able to use your GI Bill, Post 9/11 and/or Voc Rehab benefits. When I first made contact with Tony Dottore, he explained to me how the whole program works and gave me a quick tour of the school and introduced me to one of the tutors that the school provides. We filled out all the paperwork and told me to have my VA counselor get in touch with him so I can begin attending. That's when the problems started. Dealing with the VA is...stressful. I called and emailed Tony almost daily for an update. Tony kept reassuring me that he had dealt with the VA before and to be patient. He was very professional in every step of the way and continues to check in with me from time to time to see how my courses are coming along. But anyway, once the VA finally did their part, at least the paperwork portion, I began attending class. It took the VA a couple months to pay the school for the courses and for the books that I needed to complete the courses. Tony told me I could still attend class and take the blueprint reading portion of the course I was taking since I didn't need the books for that portion. Again, I was beginning to lose my patience, but Tony told me to relax, the VA will eventually pay up and they could order my books. The VA paid for a few courses and my books and my journey to become and Inspector began. Having been out of school for a couple years, 20 to be exact, I was a little nervous and wondered if I was even capable of learning something completely new. I checked in with tutor and he explained to me how to be successful in the program. The tutors they have are very knowledgeable and eager to help. This course is designed to help you pass, as long as you put in the time and effort. I have been attending class every chance I get and can't wait to complete all the courses I signed up for. I have met new people here, everywhere from 20+ years in the construction field to people like me with zero experience. This school is 100% Veteran friendly. Tony makes it a point to thank me for my service every time we chat at school. I definitely recommend this school, not just to Veterans, but to everyone that's looking to get into the Contractor and/or Inspector field. The staff at Advance are exceptional. I came in with no code book or plans reading knowledge and successfully passed ICC Steel/Bolting in 1 week. Next was ICC Welding and then ICC reinforced concrete. 3 weeks, 3 Certs I could not have done it without Advance! They have an exceptional teaching criteria! This place is not for those who are not self disciplined and willing to make it work. If you desire to climb the Inspection ranks and attain the certifications. It takes work and doing whatever to get there. An inspector is not about the paycheck. Yes we can make a great living but we are here for code compliance and quality assurance/quality control depending on your role. We are not here to just stand around or hold up a job. If you want to be an Inspector please realize the parameters to make a good inspector. Those are. Discipline, Integrity, self reliance, communication, critical thinking, Soft skills, reading, reading, reading and able to comprehend what you read, then apply it. It is not to make up for being bullied as a child, attaining a sense of power, be an obstructionist, become popular or build your ego. These courses are to give you the knowledge to navigate the code, apply the code. These classes will not get you ready for the field. They will help you attain your licenses. The field is a treacherous place with personality conflicts, power struggles, politics, Contractors who only care for money, liars, cheats, labs who count you as a number, designers who don't get it and owners who just want their product. The contractors will try to get your goad right out the gate. They will size you up for your weakness and play to it. Yes they are professional but you must always remember the specific goal for each player. Contractor- make the most profit and deliver an acceptable product Owners- to get their product within the parameters of the contract documents they accepted from the designers. Project Manager-to protect the owner or the contractor, to save money or make more money. Inspector- to maintain the codes and standards set forth, hold the line for the owner and the code, protect the future occupants by holding the contractor to what is required in the code and contract documents. Document everything that happens so the client can defend themselves in arbitration or court. Now if you can do these things by all means become an inspector. If you cant then become a contractor. This people are ridiculous, we paid for training and the guy was really nice at first. said we could come back anytime because we live far in the Bay area. we tried to go back, since the first time we were there only 1 week. and they were rude and tried to get us to pay again. they have good info on the codes, but plans forget about it. horrible copies of plans and when you ask a question to the instructor to explain something, he does it so quick, the doesn't care if you understand it or not. they just want people's Money. They claim that they have a 95% passing rating, that is so false. Please don't waste your time and Money. Very unprofessional. Not worth it. read more

This place takes your money. They do not teach you anything. They give you a copy of outdated folders and have you highlight what they think is going to be on the ICC test onto your books. Do not go here. Tony the owner will tell you what you want to hear to get you to sign that contract. Do yourself a favor and go to CSLS or the ICC campus where they actually teach you something. If not you'll spend hundreds of dollars and waste hours and hours in a classroom highlighting a cheat sheet. Thanks to the staff @ Advanced Training I passed the very first time! I work 50 plus hours a week and didn't think I would have the time to pass my certifications with my busy schedule. Thankfully they have full and part time classes available 6 days a week. They recommend 40 hours of in school training. I did mine in 30. Great test material and the plans were dead on! I can't say enough good things about the instructors and these guys actually hold the certifications and work in the field as inspectors. If you are a currently working as an Inspector this is not the place for you. Unless you have two weeks to just go in and sit all day everyday. The hours completely conflicted with my schedule. They say they are open from 9am to 7:30 PM. So you figure that by the time you get there after work it is 5:30PM. That would leave you with a couple of good study hours. But it isn't like that. Most of the time the class is so full that if you have a question it takes you twenty minutes to even get in to ask the guy sitting in the office that answers any questions. All you do is highlight out of books. There is no homework and they act like there study literature is top secret. You are being video taped by 4 cameras at all times. I was not at all impressed with this class. I would not recommend this class to anyone. read more
