Believe all the 5-Star reviews! I'm a stereotypical woman who knows nothing about cars and I feel like a sitting duck at the mechanic every time. Not here. They were honest, fast, and cheaper than the competition. My exhaust pipe was hanging low and the AAA tow driver wasn't sure if it was the rubber or the metal. He patched it up enough for me to get home, but I still needed to get it fixed ASAP. I called around and John at Advance Tire and Muffler said I could just come in (first come, first served). It took a total of 10 mins, including waiting for them to finish another car. The best part: turns out it was just the rubber hanger. That's a super easy and cheap fix. They could have oversold me if they wanted to, and I wouldn't have known any better. But they were honest and also very fair priced. Some of the other muffler shops in Long Beach have a minimum fee that was much higher than what I paid here for this small of a job. Is it fancy? No. Do they spend money on overhead? No, they don't even have a website. And you just stand on the sidewalk while they work on your car. So what? Fast work, honest people, fair pricing. Now that I've learned what exhaust shops are, I'll recommend this one to everyone I know. read more

I was referred to John and Darren by my mechanic because I was having some car trouble. I called John in the morning. He answered right away and got me in within the hour. He was so personable and kind and educated me on everything that needed to be done before he did anything. I was asking if he can install a catalytic converter protector, CAT protector and he said that he can do that no problem and I think the price he quoted was fair. I was referred to this shop after my car failed emissions due to a clogged catalytic converter. These guys were great. Super professional, honest, and very reasonable prices. They took great care of my '87 Camry and gave me a referral to a body shop since I was also looking for a reputable shop for paint. They ordered a new cat when I arrived and I came back to have it installed within a couple of hours. It took maybe 15 minutes for them to replace it. Highly recommend Advance! Some guys tried to steal the catalytic converter from my daughter's Prius, We don't know much about cars, so had no idea if they were successful or not. Based on the stellar reviews, I called Advance and spoke to John who patiently explained how to check if it was still there, what to look for and to bring it down to the shop so they could look at it free of charge. We took the car down, met with John and the owner Darren who were incredibly nice. They immediately put the car on a lyft and had an assessment within 5 minutes. Luckily the converter was still there and they were able to have it completely repaired in 45 minutes. Service is truly excellent and the cost very reasonable. I was calling multiple shops to get my mufflers installed but non of them would do it. I called up advance and sure enough they told me to come in so they can come check it out. Came the next day and had no hastily doing the work I told them. They were also very caring to the customers and went above and beyond since my first car show is in the following day. A couple months back some asshats tried to steal the catalytic converter from our 2007 CR-V. Fortunately they were scared off, but that left our collector with integrated catalytic converter cut in two places. The job was straightforward in that the cuts were at an angle, but required some thought because the piping was double walled. I had narrowed it down between here and another shop on LB Blvd, so I removed the damaged piece and went to High Flow Mufflers for my first quote. I'm an individual who knows his way around cars and like to be thorough, but when I asked the aforementioned shop how the repair was going to be made and how they were going to address the double walled piping, I was brushed off. This left me with the impression that the work wasn't going to be done right since they couldn't explain it. I then made my way over to Advance Tire & Muffler where when posed the same question were thorough and explained how they were going to go about it. Despite having the part in hand, they preferred to have it along with the entire vehicle to ensure the piping would be straight. Again, a testament to their workmanship and will to do things right. Went home, had our car towed to them, received a call an hour later, and not only did the install the piping back, which allowed me to drive off, but they also cleared the check engine light. Stopped in and chatted with the owner, great guy! I got a price and made an appointment, this place stays really busy. The reason why is that this is nit your back alley muffler shop. The owner stands behind what he does and his pricing is reasonable. The place is old and it's dirty but it's all so a muffler shop. I had a piece of pipe broken in my exhaust system where it connects to the muffler and found an affordable place to fix it. They do not take appointments and it is first come first serve. I got there when it opened. The service was great and they were able to salvage the muffler and only replaced the broken pipe that rusted off. It was amazing how they can re-manufacturer the pipe on the spot. Don't have much experience with this type of work but John (Owner) and his person got it done right. Just a updated review. Well it's has been 7 months since they hooked up my car and has been great but due to circumstances I have to have them removed. Thankfully I listen to their advice when we first did them and did a muffler delete instead of a resignator delete.
