I drive a lot and I used to take my car to Toyota when I had a service plan. When that expired I kept bringing it to Toyota out of habit. Didn't realize how much of a scam dealer maintenance is. Toyota told me I needed a 3,500$ timing gasket reseal and that my engine was leaking oil. I took it to Jim over at Herb and Reds. He showed me the part, it was just a little build up. 3,500$ repair was unnecessary. Just needed cleaning and to have the bolts tightened. Toyota charged me 1250$ to change the clock spring in my steering wheel. Total rip off. At the same time my sway bar links were demolished. Leaking oil. An issue that should have been clearly visible to anyone who looked at it on a lift. Toyota just plugs it in and reads the printout without actually looking. They've missed some obvious issues despite me spending thousands at Cabe Toyota. Jim is great. Stop going to the stealership and take your car to him. Herb and reds is a great shop. He does most work, he knows his stuff, he'll give it to you straight and prices are reasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If he can't do something, he'll take a look and diagnose the issue free of charge and refer you to someone else nearby who can do the work you need.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He's helped me out three times in the past two months and I'm definitely gonna be bringing both my cars to him from now on. read more

I decided to give Herb & Red's a go after seeing a few comments on Reddit about how great of a place it was. I was only due for an oil change, but wanted a thorough inspection of my car just to make sure everything was in working order. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called to set an appointment up, the guy said they were pretty booked, but he could get me in a week later for an 8:00am appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He also said that the inspection was included with the first service. I showed up a little after 8am on a Friday and said goodbye to Baby Gray for the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Jose asked me what time I needed my car by and I didn't *need* it for anything that day, so I said whenever.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I received an update call at about noon; there were some minor issues with one of my tire's lug nuts being too tight, a back light needed to be replaced, and a screw was lodged into my back tire. I really appreciated the update call and progress report![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My car was ready at 3:50pm-ish. I was a bit surprised it took that long, so if you do need your car back by a certain time, let them know. Getting into my car knowing that it was all fixed up and healthy felt SO good, I love my little Corolla so much :) I will definitely go to Herb & Red's if I have any car issues, and likely for all of my future oil changes. My car was there for a week while waiting for a part. I was told it would be done by a certain time. I couldn't get through their phone line. It just rang and hung up. Jim knew that I was trying to get ahold of him. I had left messages. He refused to speak to me and only talked to my neighbor who had nothing to do with my car. He only referred me to him. Instead of trying to work something out with me he called my neighbor and accused me of calling and hanging up. When it was a problem with their phones. He told my neighbor to come get my car because he won't try to find the part because of the phone issue. read more

Had Jim inspect my car due to loud popping in my suspension. My receipt clearly stated that the right front strut and mount were inspected, and he didn't see any problems with it. They were unable to find the source of the noise. After tightening everything up, was told the noise seemed to be resolved. Paid $150 for his labor, which is reasonable. Noise continued, and he said I could bring it back in the next week. Was able to find another local mechanic able to see me next day, and they found a faulty right front strut. Replaced it and resolved the noise issue immediately. If a general all-over cursory inspection of the front end had missed the problem, I can likely understand. But the fact that the actual broken part had been specifically inspected and reported to be fine is concerning. I've now flushed $150 straight down the toilet in labor costs. They've always been very nice, and seemed to do good work on my previous car, but I can't trust their work any longer. read more

Dare I say it, but they are honest mechanics. They have been servicing my two cars, a 2005 Honda Minivan and a 2007 Ford Truck... they are still running strong and paid off. I am going to keep them running until they fall apart. Mechanically they are strong and may last another 3-5+ years. During Covid a rat made a nest in my engine, but they were so nice and made it so that my car was not totaled with the insurance company giving me less than I could replace it with another vehicle. Highly recommend. They will have my business for years and so will my two sons. Keep in mind that they are busy and service may need to be scheduled a week or so out, but it is worth it. Made appointment waited all day for a estimate on a part change that takes 1.1 hours and I gave them the part and still they tried to overcharge me and said they part had to soak in grease, Huh' and wanted to keep the car for two more days and said it would cost over two hundred dollars just for the 1.1 hours of labor. Dropped the car off at 8 am and picked it up at 5 pm no service, just a runaround. BEWARE! There are plenty of shops that are totally professional, just not this one. read more

My 2008 Honda Accord has been making this high-pitched squeaking noise intermittently when I brake. Naturally, I was concerned that my break pad was wearing out, so I called for an appointment. I was promised that if the break pads are fine, I wouldn't have to pay anything. It turned out that there was just some residue on the cuff and the pads themselves are okay. While they were inspecting my brakes, they rotated the tires for me as well. And true to their promise, I didn't have to pay anything, even when I offered to pay for rotating my tires.
